Tenofovir

I've moved the second image into the Drugbox. To change the caption, you have to add the | imagename = parameter to the template, in the edit window—anywhere between the opening and closing brackets {{ }} is fine, but I prefer just below the | image = field. Hoffmann La-Roche

Your undoing of the changes to the Hoffmann La-Roche page were not necessary. The use of the Roche in Hexagon logo is disputed by the owner of the trademark. Also, the inclusion of an external link to a purely commercial website is inappropriate under the Wikipedia Terms of Use. I will revert the page accordingly. Proposal for WP:ONCOLOGY

I am trying to gauge what the interest would be for a WP:ONCOLOGY category. This would be under the broader auspices of WP:MED, along the lines of WP:RENAL and WP:Rads. It would address standards of care and best practices in surgical, medical, and radiation oncology, along with maintaining and editing cancer related articles.

Flu pages

Thank you very much for your efforts on the flu pages. I need to edit wikipedia less and am no longer maintaining those pages. But I do look in every now and then. It is my understanding that "avian flu" refers to the serotypes of all known subtypes of the influenza A virus that are endemic in birds. The word "subtype" with regard to influenza A is used to refer specifically to the H?N? categorization, and any specific subtype can have a variety of strains or serotypes that are endemic in different species. For example, the influenza A virus subtype H3N8 has different varieties/strains/serotypes endemic in dogs, horses, and birds. Of course, by definition these subtypes can also be called varieties/strains/serotypes; but they usually aren't called that by the experts for the sake of clarity and precision. While http://jvi.asm.org/cgi/reprint/71/8/6128.pdf is a bit out of date with some of its claims, it does give a good feel for the subject. WAS 4.250 16:53, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Virus template

Hi, I thought about this before I added to it. The template was already a bit of a mixture. For the Hepatitis section it could be the names of the disease or the virus because they are the same. Under "skin" some viruses are listed i.e. Herpes simplex (the diseases are genital herpes, coldsores, herpetic stomatitis etc); Herpes zoster, (the diseases are chickenpox, shingles, neonatal zoster etc.) Again measles is the name of the virus and the disease, same with mumps. Cowpox, molluscum contagiousum and vaccinia are the names of viruses too (in fact, vaccinia is not a disease at all). At the bottom we have cytomegalovirus by itself, (the diseases are CMV retinitis etc.) If we stick to diseases apart from changing some of the above, we would have to include: rotaviral gastroenteritis, astroviral gastroenteritis etc., which I think would look a bit of a mess. Redundant taxoboxes

Not at all, that's an excellent suggestion! I'm not too confident with the category space and am not sure exactly how to make sub-categories, so if you're happy to to that, that would be brilliant. There are also several pages which transclude Template:Taxobox begin which have yet to be tagged if you fancy it...

I have again looked at this article, along with the links you placed on the article's talk page, and still do not see the "blatant copyright infringement" you claim. Copy-and-paste insertions result in whole paragraphs, or even entire articles, that are word-to-word identical to the original source. Dear Sir,

I am the creator of the wiki page of Donald Geman. I am his student and was not aware about the issue of conflict of interest before I saw it.

I think it is a bit unfair to say that the article has a non-neutral voice. All the thing I wrote are verifiable using the references: you can check ISI highly cited program, your gibbs sampling wiki page and google scholars to find out that the paper Geman & Geman is cited over 7000 times. Most parts of this article is just gathering of other websites.

I hope this issue can be resolved very quickly.

Hi G716 - just wondered why you made the changes you did to {{Statistics-stub}}. Stub templates generally don't have separate /doc files - any links to WikiProjects go in the category, not in an add-on to the template itself. Also, re: an earlier edit of yours to the template, the stub category is never, ever, hidden by includeonly tags. Grutness...wha? 00:36, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

It's not a policy, but it's something that isn't generally done (I don't know of another stub template which has a /doc file, and I've been stub-sorting for a long time). In general there's no real use for them - all they would ever contain is interwiki links to other language equivalents and WikiProject-specific template categories, each of which is very easily noincluded out. Any links to WikiProjects, as I noted, are kept to the category wherever possible, rather than the template.

I did write includeonly, as you can see above (though I initially wrote noinclude then immediately corrected myself). The reason this is done is to make it easier on stub-sorters - there are numerous reasons for it, but one of the most important is that it makes it instantly possible to check that a template and a category are correctly paired together, simply by looking at the template (it saves a lot of time if you're having to check a hundred templates if you don't have to open each of them up in an edit window to see whether there are includeonly tags). Another reason is to check what templates actually are in a category - which is very useful when it comes to splitting large categories containing several upmerged templates. Tagging math pages

I noticed you tagged a few talk pages with the {{maths rating}} template. Would you mind following up on that by filling in the importance parameter in the templates? There is no need to tag math articles just to say they are mathematics articles; we already have a List of mathematics articles that does not require any talk page tagging. If you don't fill in all three parameters when you put the template on a talk page, someone else has to spend time cleaning up the pages you have tagged. — Carl (CBM · talk) 21:07, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. Your point is well taken, but I don't tag articles to identify them as math articles. The Statistics WikiProject relies on the Mathematics WikiProject (and your bot) to handle quality assessments. I tag new statistics articles with {{maths rating|field = Probability and statistics}} so that they are shown here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mathematics/Wikipedia_1.0/Probability_and_statistics. Correlation

Hi, I don't agree with this: that algorithm is a good, fast and numerically stable one. I believe it is important to keep it, the algorithm should definitely be part of the article. Furthermore, a pseudo-code can be implemented and works in all languages.

It is important to distinguish a formula which defines what a mathematical concept is from the algorithm that tells you how you compute that particular mathematical concept in a practical way. A formula is expressed by an analytical expression; an algorithm is expressed by a pseudo-code (in general, you can't express an algorithm as a formula).

category Statistics

Just curious. Category:Statistics reasonably has Category:Probability and statistics. That category has both Category:Applied mathematics and Category:Mathematics of computing. You added "Applied mathematics" to "Statistics", but did not add "Mathematics of computing". Adding "Applied math" to "statistics" would seem to be redundant clutter, given the obvious tree. Not adding it to "Math of computing", given that you did add to "Applied math" is even more confusing.

Why does "Applied Math" need both "Probability and Statistics" and "Statistics" subcategories?

Categories are not intended to be a tree system, so it's ok to have a cat that is a sub-cat of more than one cat, and it's ok for the parent cats to be related to each other. (See here) The purpose of assigning sub-cats is to make navigation easier for the reader. I think that having Category:Statistics in both Category:Probability and statistics and Category:Applied mathematics is ok, even though those two latter cats are parent/offspring to each other. I don't know much about Category:Mathematics of computing so I didn't add. I think that, in moderation, over-categorization is better than under-categorization, because we, as editors, never know where a reader would like to go next, but we need to help him/her to get there. Ummm, categories are not required to be a tree system, and trees can intersect in curious ways but trees do organize knowledge. You are correct in that, in general, anything goes, it's what servers the reader best. I happen to be at the other end of the scale: over categorization hides things, it especially hides/obscures organization, the reader can't find what he wants hidden amongst all the excesses and can't repeat a path to get there a second time. Occured to me that you might be surprised to see what I've done at Category:Application software. Did that so that people trying to categorize application software could quickly see most existing categories, but it also lets readers go directly to a category. That was done a few years ago. Yes, but that still has you paging and choosing which tree to go down. And you have to explore subtrees to see what's there. Setting depth=.. requires even more vertical paging. I designed the layout for Application software so that each category appears only once (exceptions are always possible). "Statistics" is there only once. "Spreadsheets" are there only once, in the business section, even though they are also in the Mathematics tree. So the Application software page displays all categories at least once, but not the subcategory structure and is thus very concise (doen't even display full names for most categories).
