Your comment on De Moivre Talk Page

On the De Moivre Talk page you say:

By De Moivre's formula:

$(-1)^{1/2}=\left(\cos \pi +i\sin \pi \right)^{1/2}=\cos {\frac {\pi }{2}}+i\sin {\frac {\pi }{2}}=i\,$

but also

$(-1)^{1/2}=\left(\cos 3\pi +i\sin 3\pi \right)^{1/2}=\cos {\frac {3\pi }{2}}+i\sin {\frac {3\pi }{2}}=-i\,$

so you get two different answers which is not good.

Why do you think it is not good that there are two square roots. Is it also 'not good' that, for example, 3 has two square roots? Can you please explain why it's not good?37.228.204.111 (talk) 18:01, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
