Happy New Year Diannaa!

Gray tree and gray tree

Hi Dianna, Actually they are both in commons now - you are removing one commons image for the other. Personally I prefer the lighter version - it's more accurate...Modernist (talk) 01:00, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

I see that the other one has now been removed...Modernist (talk) 01:08, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Happy New Year!..Modernist (talk) 01:10, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi Modernist! I was thinking of you :) The one I removed was sourced to http://www.artchive.com/artchive/m/mondrian/mondrian_gray_tree.jpg, which is 872 x 640. The version on the Commons is sourced to http://www.piet-mondrian.org/the-gray-tree.jsp, and is 1,100 × 804. I can't see a difference in color between these two versions, tho my eyesight is not the best it's true. There's several other versions available online, in various shades, if you want to browse around and upload another example. Best wishes for the new year, -- Diannaa (talk) 01:18, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
I can live with the one you selected. Here's something I have on my mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5grgB-dV2o...all the best to you...Modernist (talk) 01:24, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, that is one of may favourite songs -- Diannaa (talk)
Hey @Modernist:, Happy new year. After reading through the discussion at ANI I think it's time for knowledgable users such as yourself to get more involved in uploading art images! we have only eight works by Mondriaan at the Commons. His stuff is in the public domain as of today, as he died in 1944. Better you should do it than random people who don't know what the originals look like. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:40, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Dianna. I hear you, my 2015 resolution might well be to add some Mondrian's now that 2014 has passed. Have a Happy, Healthy and Safe 2015...Modernist (talk) 15:44, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

A good 2015 to you and yours!

Have a good 2015 Diannaa. Thanks for the help and expert advice you have given me in 2014, it was greatly appreciated. Onwards and upwards! Kind regards from Irondome (talk) 01:14, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you Irondome! Seasons greetings and best wishes, -- Diannaa (talk) 01:20, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Watts (Pacific Electric)

Please restore this article. It was deleted without notifying me that it was tagged as a copyvio. I doubt that it's a copyvio (the software that tagged it as such has a habit of false positives, and that tag ignores content from Template:PE S Watts that is not in the ERHA article), and I believe that enough information not from the ERHA page exists that the article can exist without ripping off the ERHA site. pbp 09:31, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Most of the prose in the source, from "The Watts Line performed local service" to "routed with certain Northern District lines", was included in the article essentially unchanged. It will have to be totally re-written. I will send you a copy of the article via email so that you can use it as a starting point. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:50, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
It's completely different, and it was fixable, so the article should never have been deleted! Plus, why wasn't I notified before it was deleted? I have restored the infobox and am re-working the prose, but I think you should restore all revisions, even if it means you have to leave the copy-vio tag. I think it should have never have been tagged as copy-vio, because you're basing the copy-vio on only a handful of consecutive words. Also, the EHRA source contains a table of ridership and an explanation of flagging that isn't in the Wikipedia article, while the Wikipedia article contained/contains an infobox that's not in the EHRA source. Calling it copy-vio is a large stretch and all revisions should be restored. pbp 18:32, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
I have re-written the article in a manner that incorporates additional sources and does not directly copy any text from the ERHA article. However, I believe that there is no reason that the revisions from the previous article shouldn't be live. pbp 19:28, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Here are the two pieces of prose side by side so that you can see for yourself. Bolded sections appear in both passages. From the source:
<redacted>
From the deleted article:
<redacted>

I could restore the deleted revisions, but there's no point, as all the revisions would have to be hidden from view as it's a foundational copy vio. The person who nominated the article for deletion was User:NE2. You would have to ask them why you were not notified. Diannaa (talk) 19:52, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

You're hiding revisions based on the fact that two sentences in a row are the same? That's uber overkill. I think you should restore all revisions. At no point was a majority of the article's content copied from that page. pbp 02:03, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
The first prose addition was totally copy vio, so sorry. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:05, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Then hide that one and unhide the rest. You are being far too liberal with hiding edits. pbp 03
46, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
The copy vio content appears in all the intervening diffs, up until the point it was tagged for deletion, so they all have to be hidden. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:21, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Disagree. I still say you're stretching it to call it a copyvio, or at least a copyvio that's serious enough that it's paramount for it to be hidden. You still haven't made the connection to explain why hiding or deleting so many edits was the right call. Note how few words in succession are identical to the page you claim it's a copy-vio of. Oh, and I tried numerous times to contact @NE2:, but each time, he either responded "yawn", or deleted my contributions as if I was a vandal. That is highly discourteous on his part, and it's surprising because he is also interested in improving coverage of transportation-related articles. pbp 05:37, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
I've had strong disagreements with User:pbp in the past but I wholeheartedly support him with this. There is no copyvio here since the source and editors-written content are not, as Wikipedia:Copyright violations, states "linguistic similarity in creative language or sentence structure." Even if you charge that there is paraphrasing, which I don't see here, Wikipedia:Copyright violations links to Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing which defines what paraphrasing is appropriate and what is not. It states very clearly in its WP:LIMITED section that "Close paraphrasing is also permitted when there are only a limited number of ways to say the same thing" and that "This may be the case when there is no reasonable way to avoid using titles and technical term, and may also be the case with simple statements of fact." --Oakshade (talk) 06:28, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
The criteria for speedy deletion calls for deletion of copyright violations where removal of the copyright content would not leave a viable article. That's why the article was speedily deleted. After PBP re-wrote the article, I restored the prior history, as requested. The diffs containing the copy vio were then revision-deleted under criterion RD1. His first prose addition to the article included a copy-paste of the prose in the source article, http://www.erha.org/peswat.htm. All of the content in the opening paragraphs of the source are included unaltered in the Wiki article, with the addition of two sentences. It's not paraphrased at all. Identical segments are in bold:

From the source: <redacted>

From the article: <redacted>

I suggest you verify that my handling of it is in accordance with usual practice, by speaking to another person who works in copyright clean-up such as User:Moonriddengirl. The current version of the article has been thoroughly paraphrased and does not constitute a violation.-- Diannaa (talk) 16:10, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I have now removed the copyright content from this page. Interested talk page watchers can read MRG's response at Purplebackpack89's talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:30, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Copyvios on The Fearless Vampire Killers

Hi Dianna. I was alerted by Mikepellerin about widespread copyvios on the article The Fearless Vampire Killers. On subsequent investigation the copyvios were so widespread and numerous that I started a copyvio investigation using the copyviocore template. Your assistance would be appreciated. Happy 2015 btw. :) Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 06:54, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I cleaned up as much as I could and restored the article. I think it should be clean now but you can also have a look. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 07:40, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I found a couple more things to remove. Thanks for taking care of this. -- Diannaa (talk) 16:24, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much Dianna. The link tcm.com/this-month/... was not used as a reference in the article and it appears to be user-generated. The official tcmdb entry is here. Could the user-generated content be a Wikipedia mirror? Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 18:54, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Probably not. :) It was added without reference in 2005. The first change to the content, several months later, removed the title of the autobiography. The title of the autobiography is used in the external source. If it was copied from Wikipedia, they had a pretty narrow window to do it. The section is not altered much thereafter, but see the addition of quotation marks here. The quotation marks are not in the external site. None of the Wikipedia mirrors I see follow the original content. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:13, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
That's some pretty subtle and impressive, as well as time-consuming, copyvio forensics. Thank you very much MRG. Happy 2015 btw. :) Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 19:49, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Copyrights issue

Some hours ago, I had started a new section on ANI, no action has been taken yet. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Overall disruptive user.

For more than 3 years, this user is violating copyrights. Bladesmulti (talk) 01:05, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

What you need to do is see if there are five instances of copyvio by this editor. If you have five, then go to WP:CCI and initiate a formal copyright investigation. I have removed some copyright content from Wesley Degree College. What remains seems to be ok -- Diannaa (talk) 01:17, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Deleted articles constitute as an example? If final warning(regarding copyrights) has been given many times and the user continues to violate copyrights, then what has to be done? Bladesmulti (talk) 01:26, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
I checked his deleted articles Vikram Sohan, Ajay Cavalli, Raul Patil, Shyju Mathew, N. Raj Prakash Paul, Alexandre Slaviero, and Narayanguda cemetry, and none of them look like they contain any copyright material copied from elsewhere. They were all deleted for notability concerns. His four extant file uploads look okay, as they do not appear to have been copied from elsewhere online, and all four were taken with the same camera. He's had a lot of uploads deleted for copyright concerns and lack of fair use rationale, but that activity stopped in 2012. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:40, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Bishonen has already engaged with the user about the behavioural issues. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:49, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for writing, I had thought that things have cooled down, but unfortunately they weren't. User is now blocked indefinitely.[1]-[2] The article was deleted as the remaining portion still violated copyrights. These issues shall be discussed if the user requests for unblock. Tomb of Absalom picture

Hi Diannaa, and a happy year to you! I might not be so savvy about Wik. tools and rules, but my common sense is quite a good guide. The picture of the iiner chamber of Absalom's Pillar has a misleading explanation ("Hinnom Valley"), I have indeed seen a Wikipedia page copy-pasting the mistake, and I don't know how to make people aware of it other than by going to the root cause: the picture page and notifying about the error. I fixed the affected Wikipedia pages where I could, but my French is not so great for instance :-) So, why such haste in deleting my correct and well-intended "message in a bottle"? I'm quite pedantic myself, but Wik. is a tool, and if it's just multiplying errors by sticking to rules, then it serves no purpose at all. If you have an alternative suggestion on how to deal with the problem AND stick to the rules, great, educate me. Thank you, Arminden (talk) 01:35, 6 January 2015 (UTC)ArmindenArminden (talk) 01:35, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Your message was misplaced; the image is not hosted here. It's on the Commons. The correct place to post your comment is Commons:File talk:InsideAbsalom'sPillar.jpg
Here are the deleted remarks, so that you do not have to re-write it: "The tomb is NOT in Hinnom Valley, only in Joshaphat Valley, which itself is a segment of the Kidron Valley. It is known as the "Tomb of Absalom" or "Absalom's Pillar", but is NOT connected to Absalom as it dates to the 1st century CE. Both pictures show the burial chamber; one also shows the staircase from the original entrance." -- Diannaa (talk) 01:45, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Reworking a salted article

Diannaa, I completely rewrote a biography which had been deleted multiple times, and then salted I presume by you. I am requesting that you take a look at my version and see if it is worthy to be moved to the Dina Rae name in mainspace. Here is my version:

I propose that the topic is notable because of WP:MUSBIO which admits any musician who has had a charting single. Dina Rae had a charting single in duet with Eminem on the song "Superman (feat. Dina Rae)", and also on the Eminem song "Drug Ballad (feat. Dina Rae)". Several authors have written about her, including journalist David Stubbs. She has collaborated with a great many famous musicians, and her writing credits have been on four multi-Platinum albums. I think the topic is something Wikipedia should host.

I hope you don't mind the archived fansite filler which I used to flesh out the article to make it more readable. The core notability is established by reliable sources while the interesting bits are filled in with interviews that Dina Rae gave to fansite authors.

In the 2010 deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dina Rae, the article appears to have failed to establish notability. I think I solved that problem. More recent recreations of the article became a concern because of sockpuppeting by blocked/banned editor MariaJaydHicky. Various versions of this biography have been deleted by Courcelles in 2010 per AfD, by Fastily in 2011 for overt promotion, by JamesBWatson last September (twice!) and by you last December. Let's check to see if any of these fine folk have concerns about my version going live. Binksternet (talk) 06:46, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Hmm. You say I deleted the article twice. In fact I once deleted an article on the subject, and once a pointless disambiguation page, which pointed to only one article. Also, after mentioning "In the 2010 deletion discussion", you refer to subsequent deletions in terms which could give the impression that they were entirely for another reason than notability, namely sockpuppetry. However, only one of the deletions of the article (not the disambiguation page) was because of sockpuppetry, and my deletion was because of a second deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dina Rae (singer). I see that in that second deletion discussion an argument for "keep" was "Admittedly she's mainly a backing singer/muse. But she's a backing singer/muse to someone who is not a nobody and has released records under her own name also." (From the editor "In ictu oculi".) Was she merely a backing singer for Eminem, or was she more than just a backing singer? I don't know the answer, but if an experienced and reliable Wikipedia editor arguing to keep the article concedes that she was only acting as a backing singer, then I suspect it is so. If so, then I think it is stretching a point to interpret "any musician who has had a charting single" as meaning "any musician who has played any part in a charting single, even if only as a backing singer". Being a backing singer to someone who is "not a nobody" is no evidence of notability, as notability is not inherited. The writing and construction of Binksternet's version of the article are fine, as I would expect for any article by him, but whether it establishes notability is another question. I selected five of his 21 references at random and checked them. The first one I checked was a blog. The second one was a fairly substantial report about Eminem, which had a two-sentence mention of Dina Rae, in which she is described as having "provided backing vocals and hook work" for him. The third is a book, which as far as I could see has only one single-sentence mention of her, in which it refers to her as providing "backing vocals". The fourth is a page at IMDb, which merely includes a song of Dina Rae's in a list of credits. The fifth was a Wayback Machine archived copy of a page on a now defunct fan site (www.dinaraefans.com). If those five are typical of the 21 references, then there is no evidence whatever of satisfying Wikipedia's notability guidelines. However, I have spent as much time on this as can afford to spend at present, and I shall leave it to others to assess the remaining 16 references. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:36, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
She's not just a background vocalist; she's a "featured" singer. The point is that she has featured credit on two charting singles, and she was featured on stage during the 2002–03 tour singing the two songs as duets with Eminem. More than that, she is acknowledged by Eminem and his production team as a writer of musical hooks used on his multi-Platinum albums. Binksternet (talk) 04:03, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
My opinion is that she hasn't done anything fresh since the article was deleted in November 2010 and September 2014 for notability concerns. If there's no new claims to fame, she's still not notable in my opinion. It might be a good idea to check with the relevant wikiproject to confirm whether or not there's enough new material to survive AFD. It's not an area where I usually edit, so my opinion might not have much value -- Diannaa (talk) 02:10, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Watchlist request

Hi Diannaa, I hope all's well with you.

I'm sorry to ask (especially out of the blue) but I've seen on a number of occasions you deploy sound critical judgment in a number of articles (the Wansee Conference especially) on small additions made by other users in totally good faith but which do not use WP:RS or have issues with spelling/grammar/emphasis etc. I wrote Belgium in World War II a while back and, while it's very far from perfect, there has recently been a spate of such edits by new users. I feel very uncomfortable reverting them (though I have done so) and is smacks of page ownership and all sorts of other things I consciously try to avoid. At the same time, letting them stand would, I feel, decay the quality of the article such that it is. Anyway, I wondered whether you might agree to add the page to your watchlist (very few established users, it seems, have) to provide a second opinion at very least. I'd certainly appreciate it! All best, —Brigade Piron (talk) 21:47, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Brigade Piron, and thanks for your kind words. I will certainly help keep an eye on the article for you. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:30, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Help if possible

Hi again Diannaa ! Not far from where I live, exist one of the world's most busy international ferry route (roll-on-roll-of) between Helsingør, Denmark and Helsingborg, Sweden. There has been an official ferry route ever since 1630. And especially after the the industrial revolution the route has been operated by several shipping lines. Now I wrote about the shipping line which between 1955 and 1981 was called LB (car ferries), and this article has now been confused with the route itself, for speedy deletion. But just like Operation Overlord was a plan, and there is a clear difference also between Normandy Landings and Invasion of Normandy. In some kind of analogy with those subjects, am I kindly asking for help and advices here. The ferry root isn't the same as the first operator which challanged the monopoly at the route, hene I find LB importaint. Could You, if possible, have a look at this ? (As someone has put LB (car ferries) for speedy deletion. I hope You will get a great 2015, in any case. Kind regards Boeing720 (talk) 02:41, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Ho Boeing 720, I agree the article does not qualify for deletion under that criterion, and have removed the tag. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:55, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Now I'm both impressed by Your speed, and a huge thanks for the help and understanding the difference. I will have a second look of both articles and where possible, reduce possible overlapings. I also have to admit to a certain relief over some hours wasn't spoiled. I hope the sun is shining on Alberta ! Kind regards Boeing720 (talk) 03:29, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Copyright issues

See Jain Sculpture, I had requested speedy deletion for violating copyrights and the user removed it and then copied from other websites like [3]-[4]-[5]-[6]-[7]-[8] and others. It can be deleted? Bladesmulti (talk) 05:01, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

And Siddha (Jainism) is even more troubling. Bladesmulti (talk) 05:09, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Siddha (Jainism): Dr K has done some clean-up there, but the remaining content is copied from Siddha, so it qualifies for speedy deletion under criterion A10.
  • Jain Sculpture has now been cleaned. I will post something on the user's talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:06, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Jain Sculpture (Tamil Nadu) needs to be merged with Jain Sculpture and the article needs to live at Jain sculpture. I have never done a history merge but I will have a look. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:18, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
It didn't need a history merge, just a regular merge, so I was able to get it done. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:32, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Dianna I am familiar with your edits so I wanted to post here first before I went to the admin notice board. It's about the Sean Combs page, that information was always presented from the eldest child down, so why is it suddenly not right. you took about the source from the daily mail but there is another source from USA Today with the same information, are they not considered credible either? I went in and presented the information about Justin first if that is your whole purpose. I don't quite understand your edits, to be honest I don't think you are aware that you wrecked the family section of the page and took out all the information about the other children maybe you edited it in a haste and didn't realize what you did Taipeimagic (talk) 15:31, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Your advice is welcome

Hi User talk:Diannaa. I am coming to your talk page as I note you signed the The Autie Pact back in 2012. I am a non-neurotypical who lives with Autism in the form of Asperger Syndrome. If you know much about those of us on the Spectrum as well as Wikipedia editors on the Spectrum, you probably understand that editing and communication can be difficult enough for neurotypicals, excruciatingly difficult at times for editors like me with Autism. I am here on your talk page not because I am asking you to intervene, I am not canvassing for support. I am here because you signed the Autie Pact that is meant to be a way to move toward bridging the gap between neurotypical editors and editors with Autism Spectrum Disorder(s). Currently, there has been a discussion for a few days at AN/I regarding my ability to edit. I have been open there about being a person with Asperger's. When that information was brought forth, the reactions have been -- shall we say -- less than complimentary to those expressing their views about editors with Autism. This discussion and the comments from long-time and not-so-long-time editors is, in my opinion, an example of how far we still have to go in Wikipedia toward understanding that we are made up of editors with different editing styles and different ways of seeing the world. Of course, the difference in editors with Autism is more obvious and can be, at times, more maddening to neurotypicals. That said, with the rate of autism being somewhere between 1:55 - 1:110 and Wikipedia being a magnet for those with ASDs, I think it's fair to say that awareness is extremely important. Also important to remember is that discrimination against editors because they have ASDs is just not appropriate nor does it echo WP:AGF. If you are interested in seeing the thread at AN/I I am referring to, the link is here [9]. I have no expectation that you will look at it, my purpose here is really just awareness that Wikipedia still has a long way to go in the way of interactions and understanding between autism-spectrum editors and neurotypical editors. And, as the title of this section says, your advice would be welcome. Thanks for your time. -- WV 16:35, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

I have read the ANI thread and some of the background threads, and have decided not to comment there. Some general advice:
  • Don't make hundreds of tiny edits when you can make several larger edits that do the same work. It annoys people, because it floods their watch-lists, and makes it difficult to assess your contributions. I was ready to nominate Madagascar Plan for GA after only eight edits! Seriously. If you can't complete large edits without getting an edit conflict, it's best to stop editing the page and work somewhere else until the page is not busy.
  • Don't edit war.
  • Don't read or pay any attention to what people post at Jimbo's talk page.

Jain Temple

I have understood copyright thing now, but it would be better if Siddha is a disambiguation page and Siddha (Hinduism) & Siddha (Jainism) are two different pages for maintaining exclusivity and more content needs to be added to both. I added Ranakpur Jain Temple under Architecture on page Jain Temple as it is one of best examples of architecture and needs special mention on the Jain Temple page.PJtalk 02:42, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi PJ. There already exists a Siddha disambiguation page, at Siddha (disambiguation). Normally the main topic is covered at the main page, as most users will be looking for information at that page. Additional topics are covered at other pages with different titles. Please don't try to do complicated things such as page moves until you have more experience. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:54, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Okay. But claims like there was already a page with the name Jain Sculpture, & I moved it, is completely baseless, there was a page with different title- Jain sculpture in Thirupparankunram, Madurai, India, so to standardize it, I moved it to 'Jain Sculpture (Tamil Nadu).PJtalk 03:02, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Also, please comment on this point - I added Ranakpur Jain Temple under Architecture on page Jain Temple as it is one of best examples of architecture and needs special mention on the Jain Temple page.PJtalk 03:04, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

I have no comment about this specific temple, as I have no knowledge of the subject matter. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:15, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
You moved Jain sculpture in Thirupparankunram, Madurai, India to Jain sculpture and then to Jain Sculpture (Tamil Nadu). You should not have done that. If it's general content on Jain sculptures, it should all be combined in one article at Jain sculpture, which is how I resolved the problem earlier today. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Question

Why does some editors, like yourself, write exactly 2x "--" before signing off? Is it done for any real reason? Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 21:44, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

On the toolbar above the edit window, there's a box you can click to get a signature, which gives two dashes and four tildes (without the space). I prefer with a space, si I add my signature manually. No real reason -- Diannaa (talk) 21:46, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Zimmerman....again

As you have previously dealt with this user, I thought I would bring this to your attention. Indef-blocked sockpuppeteer User:Zimmermanh1997, once again, edited WICL along with WIKZ, WEPM and WLTF. All favorite haunts of his. Zimmerman used 73.163.224.98 and 2601:A:200:676:9D85:7F03:6249:47AB, the latter of course being an IPv6. I checked the former, and it traces back to Walkersville, MD, where most Zimmerman edits originate. The IPv6 traces back to the same area. So, in my opinion, same person.

Blocks and rangeblocks would be appreciated, but another 6 month semi-protection across the four pages listed would probably be better. - NeutralhomerTalk • 00:46, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

He has also been using 2601:a:3680:6:5248:c8a0:4e2f:22d5 as well. - NeutralhomerTalk • 00:48, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
A week of semi-protection for WUMY might be in order, a new haunt for him, apparently. - NeutralhomerTalk • 00:51, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Two of these articles are on my watch-list, so I have been following the edits, and they seem to be valid content. For example, the sale to West Virginia Radio Corporation went through in November I think. If you could check and make sure, that would be perfect. I'll re-add the semi-protection right now. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:56, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
They do seem light valid content, but most of it is completely false. That's the way he does things, makes it look correct when in fact it isn't. The sale of WEPM/WICL/WLTF was approved in November, but it hasn't closed...yet. At the moment, the stations are still owned and licensed to Prettyman Broadcasting Company. When the sale does close, I will update the pages, no problem. Full disclosure, I live within listening distance of all three stations. - NeutralhomerTalk • 01:02, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Just checked to make sure, the sale was granted on December 23, 2014. Until there is a consummation notice placed in the files, the stations (according to FCC rules) remain owned by Prettyman. Radio is confusing, I know. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 01:06, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

WP:INVOLVED (no, not you!)

I love the top of your talk page. When you were a GOCE coordinator, did you ever run into a block-appropriate situation? If so, did you use the mop yourself or take it to a noticeboard or another admin? unitypeace01318sda, who just signed up for the drive, volunteered for their first article to copyedit a Croatian article from the requests page. They were hard to track because their signature was different from their username and had no link to their user page (which violates something, I'm sure :-)), and their editing history is sketchy. I'm AGFing for now, but could use some advice if push comes to shove. Thanks in advance and all the best, Miniapolis 16:44, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Miniapolis. The signature needs to link to either the user page or the user talk page. The user's current signature does neither, and does not give any information as to what their user name actually is, so it's a problem. I will post more info on their talk page. I'm not sure if the definition of WP:involved precludes using admin-tools for violations noted during administering a wikiproject, but I suspect not. WP:involved is more intended to stop admins from using the tools to further their own position in a content dispute or the like. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:02, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the clarification. I'm by no means a "block-happy admin", but don't think that Croatian articles are subject to discretionary sanctions (although I may be wrong on that). Thanks again for your help. Miniapolis 23:15, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your work on the high-page-view articles

Hi, Diannaa,

I just saw your user name on the list of Million Award winners, and I thought I should say thank you for improving important articles like Adolf Hitler, Nazi Germany, Auschwitz concentration camp, Josef Mengele, and other articles on related topics to better article quality levels. I've been reading Ian Kershaw's one-volume biography of Hitler (after reading the three-volume history of the Third Reich by Richard Evans in the preceding few months), and it's good to see reliable sources being reflected in Wikipedia articles on those important and controversial aspects of history. I first "met" you as part of the Guild of Copy-Editors, and what I found out as part of that project is that going to reliable sources is absolutely crucial for fixing articles that are a mess. I'll look forward to seeing your future contributions to the encyclopedia, and I invite you to check my work and comment on it any time. Keep up the good work. See you on the wiki. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 17:48, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this feedback; it's better than a barnstar. I haven't done much in the way of article improvement since I finished Gold Beach in mid-December, and I feel bad about it. I was going to do Goebbels, but publication on the English version of Longerich's book has been pushed back to May 2015, which I found really disheartening. Right now I am focusing on copyright clean-up at WP:CCI, and hope to get back to article improvement real soon. Best, -- Diannaa (talk) 19:33, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Block an IP?

Hi, Diannaa! I see you are working away at reducing the CCI backlog (which was just under 70000 articles last time I checked ...). I'm afraid I've been doing more to increase than to reduce it. Anyway, could I ask you to look at IP 31.164.41.160, in particular the re-addition of a large copyvio four minutes after a warning landed on its talk page, and see what you think? It doesn't seem acceptable to me. Asking you because I think you are good at ranges, and there's a similar one, 31.164.41.92. There doesn't seem to be anywhere in particular to take this sort of non-urgent block request, or is there? Best regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:24, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

I wouldn't say I am good at ranges; I use a couple of tools to calculate simple range blocks (template:blockcalc or https://tools.wmflabs.org/blockcalc/). Regarding where to report, the best place to go is WP:AIV. Here on my talk page is also good, as I edit daily, and will put up a wikibreak notice if I am going to be away for more than a day or two. By the way, the backlog is presently 153 cases, 70335+ articles. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:46, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
These IPs were last used in March and July 2014. I don't feel comfortable blocking either IP or doing a range block, as the IPs could already have been reassigned. I will add the article to my watch-list to watch for copy vio, and suggest you do the same. Thanks so much for your interest in helping with copyright clean-up. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:56, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Done. Many thanks, Diannaa! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:04, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Recreating article without copyright infringement

Hi, and thanks for your help. I want to recreate the article in my sandbox by replacing the citations to bargemusic.org. Can I go ahead and use my sandbox to do that without triggering some kind of automatic re-deletion process? The instructions say to contact you before trying to create a similar page. Schradieck (talk) 16:11, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Schradieck. The draft was deleted because all the content was copied directly from http://www.bargemusic.org/about.html. It's not okay to copy source material directly, even if you provide footnotes. It's okay to start an article on the same topic, as long as you write the material in your own words and don't copy from your sources. Please see WP:copyrights and WP:notability for some basic information on writing content for Wikipedia. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:41, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Shaizee. Deleted Page (Open Roberta)

Hello, you deleted our article about Open Roberta because of copyright infringement. We are the owners of the mentioned website (http://www.open-roberta.org) and used some text from it as fundament for the Wikipedia article. As I read within your comment regarding the Thorne Nature Experience article, we have to get an OTRS ticket in this case. Nevertheless we put a certain amount of work into the article and now its completely gone. So is there any possiblity to restore it after that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.26.78.103 (talk) 10:47, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

If and when OTRS permission is received, the article can be restored. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:08, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Image undeletion

Would it be possible to undelete File:Johnandrewmorrow.jpg? We just received permission on this OTRS thread from the author stating that he had permission to use it, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 17:43, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Kevin. I have restored the file, but will have to leave it up to you to add the ticket and verify that the license matches, as I am not an OTRS team member. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:38, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello.

I noticed you deleted the WAL Underground page I made. I included the news articles to support the validity of the company. When you have a moment, will you please explain what I can do to get this page restored. Thank you! --Kaplanau (talk) 17:47, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Maria Reiter

D-- I was wondering if you might be able to find a fair use photo to use for this article since you have a much better understanding of Wikipedia policy guidelines as to same. Kierzek (talk) 14:23, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

There's two images at http://spartacus-educational.com/Maria_Reiter.htm. The picture of her as an adult is the property of Getty Images and thus is not available for fair use. The one with Hitler may be misidentified, as Yad Vashem says it's Gudrun Himmler. The color photo at www.ww2incolor.com is likewise probably misidentified, as http://www.thirdreichruins.com/berghofvisitors.htm says it's actually Gertrude Deetz. Regardless, the color photo may be the property of LIFE Magazine and thus unavailable for fair use. So I've hit a dead end. If you could hunt around and send me links to any likely images i will have a look. Note: Mimi, Geli, and Eva were all far younger than Hitler. We need to include this somehow. I am hunting in Kershaw for a citation -- Diannaa (talk) 16:06, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Kierzek and Diannaa. I believe I saw a picture of Reiter in her youth in the same 1973 German-Austro film I found a picture of Rabatsch in her youth, which is now featured on her article. I will re-watch the documentary and let you know if I find one. I'm sure I saw a picture of her. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 20:03, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Jonas, that would be excellent -- Diannaa (talk) 20:08, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
That would be good. Kierzek (talk) 18:38, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
It turns out I mistaked Maria for Mitford ... sorry guys. However, I found another image though here. Also, I'm calling major bullshit on the little girl besides Hitler featured on Spartacus being Mitzi! You can clearly tell that particular photo was taken in the 1930s, where Mitzi would have been in her 20s—and that girl besides Hitler looks a 10-year-old. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 23:16, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Yad Vashem says the girl with the pigtails is Himmler's daughter Gudrun. I will upload your find and insert it in Maria's article, stay tuned -- Diannaa (talk) 23:24, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Also Diannaa, Kershaw writes in Hitler 1889-1936 about Mitzi and Hitler's obsession with women younger than him: "Hitler was thirty-seven years of age; she was sixteen. Like his father, he preferred women much younger than himself—girls he could dominate, who would be obedient playthings but not get in the way. The two women with whom he would become most intimately associated, Geli Raubal (nineteen years younger than he was) and Eva Braun (twenty-three years younger), fitted the same model—until, that is, Geli became rebellious and wanted a level of freedom which Hitler was unwilling to permit". Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 23:30, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
yes, I saw that, thanks. Creepy and enlightening -- Diannaa (talk) 23:40, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Google Books proves that the content exist in Kershaw books, but, as it seems with books by Kershaw, the page numbers are missing. Weird. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 23:46, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
I was able to get page numbers from Amazon, and used the content for a citation in the sexuality article. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:51, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Good Job. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 23:55, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, she has added that bit to the article which was a good addition; thanks, to you both are the matter; and Jonas, the error you mention in "Spartacus" is an example of why I don't believe it should be used; it is the work of one man without any editorial oversite; but that is for another discussion. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 00:00, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
The new lead has been posted, but probably needs to be tweeked – perhaps it is too long? -- Diannaa (talk) 00:19, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm too tired to read what it says, but just by looking at it, I don't get the feeling it's too long at all. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 00:57, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
I tweaked it for concision; see what you think. Kierzek (talk) 02:57, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Tis okay; I will give it another look-see in the morning and then nom for GA. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:45, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Diannaa, as I have not edited the article, I could be the reviewer. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 15:22, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
I have no objection to that; it is a good idea -- Diannaa (talk) 16:11, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Picture of Jean Jacques Moreau.pdf

The picture has been given lont time ago by J.J. Moreau itself. It was one of his identity card pictures. He died in January2015 wihout any descendants. What should I do ?

If you have the copyright holder's permission to upload the image here, please arrange for them to send an email releasing the photo to us under license. There's instructions at WP:consent. If you are going to go to all this trouble, I suggest you find a higher quality image, as File:Picture of Jean Jacques Moreau.pdf is not of sufficient size or quality for inclusion in the encyclopedia. And PDF is an incorrect format for images; it should be jpg or png. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:44, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Username to block

I am not allowed to report to UAA right now, so I have to request from individual admins: could you please block Special:Contributions/Wikijerkoff. - Bossanoven (talk) 19:38, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

The AN discussion says you are indefinitely topic banned from reporting at WP:UAA. I don't think the intention was that you would be allowed to circumvent the ban by making requests to individual admins, so you need to stop doing that. Besides, the bot caught this particular name, and it's already listed at WP:UAA. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:51, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, I was given this message from an admin involved in the process: User talk:Bossanoven/Archive 7#WP:AN.23Again, a UAA topic ban for Hoops gza. - Bossanoven (talk) 19:54, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for the link. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:56, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, it seems a little ambiguous. Am I allowed to report usernames to individual admins? Mind you, I wouldn't burden you with all of them. - Bossanoven (talk) 20:00, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

User:Nyttend was the admin who instituted the ban, so my feeling is yes, it's okay to point admins at bad usernames, and for you to do so will help us evaluate your readiness to have the ban lifted at some point in the future. But please check the WP:UAA board first, and see if the name is already listed there for admin attention. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:07, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Great, thanks for your help in these regards. - Bossanoven (talk) 20:11, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

I don't remember any such ban, so in lieu of the AN discussion, I suppose I can say that I agree with what I said in the linked section; a ban from UAA shouldn't be construed as a ban from making private requests on admin talk pages, i.e. there shouldn't be any problem with the request that started this section. Of course, any admin can say "you've overwhelmed my talk page with bad requests; don't come here again with block requests", so please continue to be careful not to burden an admin with all of them. I hope this isn't construed as an objection against anything you've said or done here. Not sure how else to phrase it. Nyttend (talk) 03:52, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

What do you think about these recent creations?

They're not that recent (Oct-Nov-Dec of 2014) and none of them have edited whatsoever. It's a waste of admin time to report these. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:17, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

More recent ones:

- Bossanoven (talk) 11:21, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

@Bossanoven: Sorry, I looked at this but forgot to reply. Nazi Empire was blocked as a checkuserblock by Materialscientist. I blocked Nazi.lucky as an inappropriate user name. Nazi.tab is stale (beginning of January), and there's no edits, no deleted edits, nothing in the edit filter. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:47, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Another recent creation: Special:Contributions/Rudolph Hess. Is it necessary to post such accounts as these with the Special:Contributions prefix affixed? - Bossanoven (talk) 20:44, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what linking style; I will check edits, deleted edits, the edit filter, and talk page regardless. This account I have blocked. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:32, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

It's not showing as blocked. - Bossanoven (talk) 22:54, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Advice?

Me again. What, if anything, should I do next about this? Foreign-language wikitext copied here as hidden text, no talk-page attribution of the source, keeps triggering the bot. My attempts here, here and here to start a dialogue have borne no fruit. Prolific and productive editor, so I'm reluctant to go to noticeboards etc., but the lack of response bothers me. Thanks as always, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:58, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

The odds of starting a dialogue are negligible, as the user has not responded to a user talk page post since 2011. Nevertheless I will post something on his talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 00:13, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Deletion request

Hi, per Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2015_January_31#File:Jetboil_burner_bottom.JPG, can you also delete File:Jetboil accessories.jpg and File:Jetboil sumo al.jpg? I forgot to list it, thanks.--Otterathome (talk) 11:28, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

These are both now deleted as F5 (orphaned fair use). -- Diannaa (talk) 19:49, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Tatiana Antonchenko

Dear editor Diannaa, You deleted on 05.02.2014 the draft of my article titled "Tigran Maytesian" submitted to the Articles for Creation for G12 copyright infringement (your reference on 23:54, 5 February 2015 Diannaa (talk | contribs) deleted page Draft:Tigran Maytesian (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.tigranmaytesian.com/en/bioen.htm)- see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Tigran_Maytesian&action=edit&redlink=1. Actually, it was by no means a copyright violation from my side as a contributor to this article. I am the web content manager of www.tigranmaytesian.com. The copyright holder, Mr. Tigran Maytesian has entitled me to use information from his website www.tigranmaytesian.com, including his biography and CV in full, i.e. close to the text, without paraphrasing it. I officially have the copyright holder's permission to post the material as well as direct access to all materials and information contained at his website. I sent a request to the OTRS team to get a ticket and I am waiting for their confirmation. Nevertheless I put a a great amount of work into the article and now its completely gone. Could you please restore it in full? I would appreciate if you could undelete my submission of the article and give me a possibility to edit it with your sound advice and recommendations. Should you need any proof of that you can contact Mr.Tigran Maytesian directly (contacts are at the above mentioned website. Thank you in advance for your soonest response. Best wishes, 95.67.102.245 (talk) 21:15, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Tatiana Antonchenko, web-content manager of www.tigranmaytesian.com

If and when OTRS permission is received, the article can be restored. --Diannaa (talk) 22:35, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
I had a look, and it is not, as it stands, sufficient to confirm permission; I've replied explaining why not. This might be a good time to remind Ms Antonchenko that if she is personally or professionally connected to the subject of the article then she has a conflict of interest, and is strongly discouraged from making any edit to the page about him, though of course welcome to suggest changes on the talk page at any time. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:38, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Diannaa, the ticket is now in order, and confirms the release of permission for www.tigranmaytesian.com; the ticket number is 2015020610023567. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:18, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
I have restored the draft and added the ticket to the talk page. The template shows a default of a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license, so if the email shows a different license, you will have to amend the ticket please. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:55, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
Good point, done! That default should probably be changed to reflect what our standard boiler-plate release says, which is dual (CC/GFDL). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:43, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Tatiana Antonchenko

Dear Justlettersandnumbers, dear Diannaa,

I placed a neutral, reliably sourced information in the article about Tigran Maytesian. My aim was not to promote my own interests, neither business or financial, or those of Mr. Tigran Maytesian. He is one of prominent contemporary violinists, musical pedagogues and outstanding scientists really worthy to be mentioned in Wikipedia. I have got a request from OTRS team to confirm authorization of the copyright owner from the address listed in the contact page on your website. The copyright owner has already sent this authorization from the required contact e-mail address. Actually, my contributing of this article is by no means a paid advocacy as I receive no financial compensation from Mr. Tigran Maytesiam to use Wikipedia to promote his interests. I am a freelancer on no-paid basis to contribute but not his paid employee or a family member / friend. I asked him for the requested authorization as the editor Diannaa deleted my contributed article marking it as “Unambiguous copyright infringement of Tigran Maytesian's website”.

Dear Justlettersandnumbers, in Importance of civility conflict of interest it goes that disparaging comments made about the subject of the article/author and about the author's motives should be avoided, since they may be seen as forbidden personal attacks, and may discourage the article's creator from making future valuable contributions. Remember not to bite the newcomers, please.

I am a volunteer with no financial interest or personal bias to the topic. In fact, from my side it was an attempt to advance the aims of Wikipedia and to supplement the current Wikipedia list of contemporary living violinists with another internationally recognized and prominent person really worth to be placed there.

Please tell me if it is really possible to share knowledge about such prominent person for encyclopaedic purposes of Wikipedia without hiding under any pseudonimic names of the so-called "unbiased" editors? I don't want to sound offended or to be misunderstood but it seems that for such volunteering, non-paid contributors as me the Wikipedia community is not friendly but rather a Chinese Wall, a barrier.

I would really appreciate if you could give me your sound advice and recommendations on how it is possible to create an article about this notable person (Tigran Maytesian) and not to be accused of advancing his interests.

Thank you in advance for your kind response and clarifications. Best wishes, 95.67.102.245 (talk) 12:02, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Tatiana

I am sorry your experience here has not been more positive. The draft has now been restored, as the OTRS ticket has been processed. The article was also declined for reasons other than copyright violations: it reads like a resumé, and does not have any inline citations. Did you know that all of us here on Wikipedia are volunteers, just like yourself? It takes a while to learn how to become an effective contributor. Please feel free to ask questions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk or Wikipedia:Teahouse regarding how to write an article that will meet the Wikipedia guidelines for content and sourcing. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:05, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear Diannaa,

Thank you for your response and support. I will read Wikipedia guidelines for content and online citation to make the necessary improvements to the draft of the article. Should I have any questions I will use your kind advice to contact the Wikipedia help desk and Teahouse.

Best wishes, 95.67.102.245 (talk) 10:04, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Tatiana

I don't understand why you think I violated a copyright. I read the article you referenced in "the Avenue News" and it contains information about her that I got from other sources. Psantry (talk) 14:26, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

The article is here. The Career section and the Awards section are identical. I have restored the article to your sandbox, and removed these two sections. Please be sure to re-write them in your own words. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:49, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

sheila frazier file

Hi Diannaa...appreciate the help on this article and the admonishment...I actually recently got in contact with Sheila...(we use to work together back in the 70's in New York)... I told her I had worked on her wiki article... Although she is very lo key and does not like to flaunt her life...she was ok with what I did... Do I need the "written" permission from her... Thanks... Poekneegurl (talk) 20:28, 7 February 2015 (UTC)poekneegurl

Yes you do need written permission, which has to be sent directly from the copyright holder to the OTRS team. There's instructions at WP:Consent. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:14, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay; needs official Coat-of-arms file.

Greetings, On Template:Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay the COA was deleted. Thanks! On Talk:Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay during October 2014 I had asked for a COA image to be uploaded. Since then, I did email the GB Diocese office and they have emailed me 2 official COA files. Because I'm fairly new here at WP, and these copyright restrictions, I have not been able to upload either image file, so I've moved on. I have successfully uploaded 3 or 4 of my personal pictures to commons so I do understand the process and the need for proper copyright classifications, etc.

On a few other Template Navbox pages, I have added a temporary blank COA File:Heraldic shield shape 600x660.svg as a visual indication that a COA is needed. So far there have been no objections so after a while I plan to include the blank COA on the GB template.

Question:

On the infobox of Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay article, the same non-free image file File:CoA - Green Bay.jpg is included. Should this one also be removed?

Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 13:03, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

The coat of arms can remain on the Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay article, because the file description page includes a rationale for its inclusion there, and using it there meets our non-free content requirements, which you can find here as related to images. Since our non-free content rules call for minimal use of non-free content, non-free images are not allowed in templates, which might be transcluded onto large numbers of pages. You might consider getting OTRS permission in place for the coat of arms, if you have the copyright holder's permission to display it here. There's instructions as to how to do this at WP:Consent. Sorry it's all so complicated, -- Diannaa (talk) 15:06, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining the different requirements. I do see at
  • [12] there are over 150 CoA images uploaded. At this time, I'm going to pass on this permissions attempt so that I can stay focused on other updates. I will keep a note on my To-do list for a future possible update. Thanks again, :-) JoeHebda (talk)

Thanks. I don't think I've been involved in a range block before. - Bossanoven (talk) 20:01, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

As I had predicted earlier today, back at it again: Special:Contributions/75.159.118.155. - Bossanoven (talk) 06:30, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Is a range block in order for this sort of thing? I notice that another IP on the list is near this one. - Bossanoven (talk) 08:34, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Two IPs is not enough information for an effective range block. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:40, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Else Krüger

D--here is one of those nagging little queries you may be able to help out on (cue the "Mission: Impossible" music). I have not been able to find out when she died. I assume she has by now given she was born in 1915. After the war, I know she married her British interrogator, Leslie James. After his death in 1995, I have read that she returned to Germany. I cannot find an WP:RS source stating anything after that and when she died. I checked and German Wikipedia does not have an article on her. Obenritter also tried to help and find out the answer but was not able to do so. Anyway, if you can find the answer, it would be good for that article. Kierzek (talk) 21:56, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Kierzek, according to the Swedish Wikipedia, there should be some general information about her in Joachimsthaler, Anton (2000). The Last Days of Hitler: Legend, Evidence and Truth. London: Cassell. ISBN 978-1-4072-2133-5, page 291. But I suppose this would only be useful if she died after the book was released. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 13:11, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Jonas, I have that book (as does Diannaa) which was first released in Germany in 1995 and then the English edition in 1999. At that time, she was still living. So, she would have had to pass away since then. It is just one of those "loose ends" I wanted to tie up. Kierzek (talk) 13:28, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I understand. Jonas Vinther (speak to me!) 13:29, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
I searched yesterday but found nothing. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
I am not surprised, thanks for looking. Kierzek (talk) 14:21, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey!

Look, I appreciate your efforts! Please stay away from files you have nothing to do with. o one has asked you to clean up after me. I use Internet Explorer 7.1. I find no loading issues with my files whatsoever. Also, If you want to continue deleting my uploads, please try to not inform me. Thank you. Regards MaRAno FAN 14:24, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Marano Fan. I guess that you do not realise that I am one of the few administrators who works with files, deleteing images and maintaining the image collection in other ways. By unnecessarily uploading files to replace images that are already okay, and in most cases are in fact better (because your png files take way longer to load), you are creating extra and unnecessary work. I realise that I don't have to clean up after you, but if it's not me, it's going to be someone else. You have also generated a lot of extra work for the person (that's right - usually it's just the one guy) who locates and tags unused non-free files for deletion. That's how I discovered there was a problem; there's 334 untagged orphaned non-free images listed right now, and many of them are images you removed from articles and did not tag for deletion like you should have done. Now at the risk of annoying you further, I will be going through your recent album covers and removing from articles the worst of them, and tagging them for deletion. Twinkle has an option to not notify the uploader, so consider this your only notice regarding these pending deletions, as you have banned me from your talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:46, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Seemi Zaidi

Looks like you forgot to close the AFD for Seemi Zaidi (which also the creator of it recreated just now) Wgolf (talk) 00:10, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

I bet the user had the article open whilst i was deleting it and re-created it inadvertently. I will close the AFD now -- Diannaa (talk) 00:15, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Well they put it back up with newer refs but it still has the problem it was put up as a AFD for not being notable. So yeah, not sure what to say. Wgolf (talk) 01:16, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
G4 is not a good criteria, because the only reason the deletion discussion was closed early is because the article was deleted for copy vio. A7 (not notable) is the appropriate criterion at this point. Please stop laying templates on the poor fellow's talk page. It makes communication difficult -- Diannaa (talk) 01:25, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Copyright issue with uploaded pictures for article on Soft Robotics

Hi Diannaa (talk),

Thank you for your help with the article on Soft Robotics. In order to avoid the deletion of the article, I was wondering if it is possible to delete the two pictures File:Soft octopus arm project OCTOPUS.png and File:Fish robot by FILOSE.jpg so that the article itself can be published (it seems there are no other issues with it). In the meantime I can contact the people they have sent me the pictures (then ones that I have mentioned in the copyright statement) . So they can provide me and Wikipedia with an official copyright statement. I would then, after having all the correct copyright information, add the pictures later.

So my questions is how can we do that? Is it sufficient to delete the pictures from my account? It seems Anthony Bradbury "talk" (who reviewed the draft) is not responsive. We have been waiting for weeks for his response and I am afraid all the work of so many people for the article might be lost.

Thank you again for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SirJamesHunt (talkcontribs) 17:03, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Mr Hunt. The draft Draft:Soft Robotics was deleted as it contained copying from http://journal.frontiersin.org/Journal/10.3389/fbioe.2014.00003/full. This is a separate issue from the copyright status of the photos. In order for the prose from the journal article to be displayed on this wiki, it has to be released under both the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). The source document shows only the CC-by licnense and not the GFDL. If the copyright holders wish to release the material under both of these licenses, the article can be restored. Don't worry, the content is not lost, it's merely hidden from view, and can be restored if the required permissions are received. There's instructions how to do this at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:38, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear Diannaa, I sorry that missed the deletion issue over this file. I was wondering if you could please restore it? The design was published in 1929, and possibly well before.Rodolph (talk) 11:15, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Arthur Charles Fox-Davies died in May 1928.Rodolph (talk) 11:20, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
The image was tagged with a GFDL license and a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License. The image is not in the public domain in the US if it was published in 1929 (it has to be prior to 1923). The image is in the public domain in its source country (the UK). The file was deleted from the Commons in July 2014 for lack of source information. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:46, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I must have loaded it up before the rules changed, ie. circa 2007 or 2008. I would have put it onto the UK site, and someone else will have thought it ok to promote to Commons, which as I said was'nt my doing. What I can I do to restore it? It comes from his great book, see the link, Armorial families : a directory of gentlemen of coat-armour (1905).Rodolph (talk) 17:12, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. Worldcat shows the book was originally published in 1899, so I think it's okay to restore the image with license PD-US and PD-old-70. -- Diannaa (talk) 17:23, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Your mysterious note about permissions

I'm not sure how or where to respond to your note on my page about photos related to Bryan Hunt, an artist, and to Charles Christopher Hill, another artist. I believe you are asking for proof of permission to use. Where specifically shall I have them send emails and exactly what should they say to grant permission to use their photos? Marilyn Nix (talk) 01:23, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

The copyright holder needs to send the permission email to the OTRS team. There's instructions at WP:consent. Note that for the artwork images, we need permission both for the photographs and for the incorporated artwork (as they too enjoy copyright protection). -- Diannaa (talk) 04:43, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Permissions granted but apparently insufficient

Hi Diannaa,

I recently attempted to respond to your requirement of obtaining direct permission from the original owner of the photo Samir Mitragotri.png, wherein the owner also agrees to publish the image under a Creative Commons license. You notified me that, if permission was not provided by the end of the week, the picture would be taken down. However, I did submit permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org by the end of the week, for the currently posted picture (of the same name, Samir Mitragotri.png) BUT a different graphical make-up (i.e. an updated picture of Samir). I sent direct correspondence from Ian Barin, the original owner of this latest photo, who sent the form with his personal information and otherwise verbatim in terms of the Wikipedia requirements. Because of this, the most recent picture, which appears now to be down, should remain up. If this an issue with using the exact same name for the photo, please let me know, and Ian and I will change the name and send permissions for this new name. Otherwise, please allow me to post the updated photo (verified and granted by Ian Barin on 2/11/2015).

Thank you.

Editing on The Karabuk University

Hello Diannaa,

I'm studying at the Karabuk unıversty and ı just wanted the chance that old informations about my university because those are not true for now so I copied some of those informations from school's website and here is the wep page http://www.karabuk.edu.tr/EN/history.html

If you look at the KARABUK UNIVERSITY's page on wıkıpedıa you wıll see a lot of wrong informations for example; page says-Academic staff:126 that's totaly wrong!! we have more than 800 staff at the university! this is just a little example

and about policy I copied from school's website so that is a PUBLIC information specifically for that school's students. I mean that's not illegal to copy somewhere.

If you give that page I mean my editing page, I will be glad to you! Thanks a lot! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Realinfo1233 (talkcontribs) 00:25, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

You are wrong. Prose you find online is almost always copyright (even prose which is not marked with a copyright symbol), and cannot be copied here; it's against the law to do so. Hello. The brief content I used for Il Giardino dei Semplici (band) was partly taken from a page which I WROTE months ago. It's a page from a FANsite about Il Volo. I created that very page, so I can use the content. Ask the webmaster. Anyway, I re-opened the article and just changed the content a lot in order to make it finally accepted. Technically speaking, I did not violate any copyright, I can sure you. I work for the band, among the other things. Please, accept the article, I'm working hard on it and will revise/polish it within days/weeks. I'm not English. Just give me time. Thank you so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Giallino83 (talkcontribs) 12:19, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Since the content appears elsewhere online, we require evidence that you have permission to post the content here. If the copyright holder has given permission, please follow the instructions at WP:consent. Musical ensembles must also meet the notability requirements listed at WP:BAND. Right now the notability requirement is not met, so the article would not be accepted regardless. Sorry, -- Diannaa (talk) 15:00, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

I will further re-edit the content. Strange enough, it was deemed as notable some months ago, now it's not anymore. It's a very successful band here in Italy. - Giallino83 — Preceding undated comment added 17:12, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

The article was declined twice in June 2012 and once in September 2012 because of notability concerns. trabant1963 block info

Hi, you blocked User:Trabant1963 for edit warring. But I see no notice of discussion at any admin board at User talk:Trabant1963, and in fact "what links here" shows there was no wp:3RRnb or other proceeding (though there was previous, already archived Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive873#Trabant1963. I assume a proceeding is not necessary. Could you clarify in your block notice (add link(s) to article(s) where edit warring was going on), and perhaps explain a bit more? And when/where Trabant1963 was warned? How do you know of it, are you involved at one of the articles or were you requested to act by someone involved? I am not disputing the block but it would be better for the record to show or link to some evidence. Maybe the block reason is obvious to you and involved editors but may not easily be discerned later by uninvolved others. There should be enough specificity that the user could possibly compose an appeal, but as it is now there's nothing to answer to. And i am not admin and don't know if block log needs revision. Thanks in advance! --doncram 05:46, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

I looked at the article in response to the ANI thread and reverted a couple of his edits where he clipped off part of the urls of the citations, thus breaking the links to the sources. I warned him not to do that any more and posted an edit warring notice at the same time. He must have read the warning, as he removed it from his talk page immediately prior to resuming the edit war. It was the only content that he removed from his talk page. His disruptive behaviour includes re-inserting the same wording multiple times after the warning in spite of the objections of other editors, who have been trying but failing to engage him in discussion. I don't have any interest in this article and was only trying to stop the disruption. Hope this helps. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:24, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Could you restore a deleted pic?

Hi Diannaa.

I have been referred to you by Stefan2. I created File:Ultraman gyango ruffian from outerspace 19660925.JPG with a proper fair use rationale and provenance to illustrate the article Ultraman. The editor User:Ryulong edit warred endlessly to remove it, and it ended up getting deleted as orphaned. I figured he'd eventually get banned, which arbcom has done. The article currently has no picture from the actual show, in which he was a 200ft tall being who fought aliens and monsters, usually trampling military vehicles, buildings, and trees in the process. The current image in the article, which looks like a robot warding off a vampire at a halloween party doesn't quite illustrate the show's premise.

I'd like to restore the image to the article, and preferably in the original form it was uploaded, (i.e., not the last version, which Ryulong had degraded in quality so that he could argue it was not a good enough picture.

I'd really appreciate it if you could restore the file rather than me having to reupload it.

Thanks. μηδείς (talk) 19:54, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Your original upload was 596 × 500, which is too large for NFCC (and the image looks a little blurry at that resolution to be honest). The correct size to meet our non-free content requirements is about 344 x 288, using the quick rule of thumb that the height in pixels multiplied by the width should not be over 100,000. Display size for a logged-in user who has not specified otherwise is 220px wide, so the image will look fine in the article at that resolution. If you are okay with an image size of 344 x 288, I will go ahead and restore the prior image and orphan the cosplay pic. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:57, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, Diannaa. I saw your addition, I restored what had been the long-term consensus infobox and restored the free image from the party not to step on that uploader's toes, and since its show's the shows continuing appeal. I appreciate all the help. μηδείς (talk) 20:32, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

You wrote "Image predates the creation of the OTRS system, and therefore is grandfathered in." However, according to c:COM:GOF, files uploaded in early March 2006 need a quote of the copyright holder's permission statement. That quote is not present here. Besides, "we" is not a source, and using the image would appear to attribute all of the authors, including the ones with unknown name. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:10, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jonas. I don't know anything about creating wikiprojects. Have you looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject yet? There's some good info there -- Diannaa (talk) 23:12, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Aight, cheers I will have a look. Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 23:14, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
I get the feeling that you should just "be bold" (lol) and create the project if you have a new idea. The section "Creating and maintaining a project" under Wikipedia:WikiProject has a link to a project proposal page, where you list your proposals for a new WikiProject, which kind of reminds me of the page where you can list ideas for new articles; as in, you don't need some kind of approval. Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 23:19, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
You don't need prior approval, but there's usually more than one member. You might look through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory of wikiprojects that already exist and make sure there's not one similar to yours already in existence. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:23, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
And if I'm certain that the subject is worth it's own project and is not created yet? Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 23:27, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
If you are looking for my official okay to go ahead, you're not going to get it. Please decide yourself whether to do it or not. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:28, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Olavo de Carvalho

Hello Diannaa. Thanks for your efforts at cleaning up the Olavo de Carvalho article. I noticed that one of your edits removed the copyvio template, but didn't actually remove all the duplicated text. I assume this was an oversight so I've restored the template (but repositioned it below the infringing text that you did remove).

As you've probably noticed, the article and its talk page have recently seen a large number of edits which attempt to discredit Carvalho, to paint him in a particularly bad light, or to delete the article altogether. Most of the edits are coming from the user Cerme, from anonymous IP accounts, or from another registered account which has very few edits unrelated to Carvalho. This makes me wonder if Cerme is resuming the Carvalho-related sockpuppetry and edit warring he was blocked for a few years ago (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Cerme/Archive). Do you think it's worth reopening the SPI? —Psychonaut (talk) 08:38, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Psychonaut. Sorry for missing some of the copyright text. I was able to confirm by looking at the deleted revisions that appeared on the other website before it was brought to our wiki. By the way, should the article have appeared on the page Wikipedia:Copyright problems if it's got a copyvio core template on it? The template was dated February 18, and there's nothing listed for that date. Maybe this step got missed; is it done manually or added by a bot? Regarding the sockpuppetry concern, since both users have edited recently there should be check-user evidence as well as behavioural evidence, so an SPI is a good idea in my opinion and might be quickly resolved. I will watch-list the article. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:41, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your response and for cleaning the rest of the article. The page does indeed appear on Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2015 February 18, though for some strange reason that page is not transcluded into Wikipedia:Copyright problems. Regarding the SPI report, I'll file one within a few days and include a pingback to you. —Psychonaut (talk) 14:51, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
It looks like User:Justlettersandnumbers has been transcluding the dates manually! go figure. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:02, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, laugh away! At the time, it always seems easier to add another day or two than to go and ask for a bot to do it. But I think I'll do that now ... Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:14, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes please do that, in case you get hit by a bus or something, we will still be able to carry on!  -- Diannaa (talk) 15:16, 26 February 2015 (UTC) Not that it would be easy, what with all the good work you do. -- Diannaa (talk) 16:13, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Hi Dianaa. Contrary to what some editors seems to think, I have not edited the article above, anytime - nor do I not intend to edit it. What I've twice insisted, solely on the article's talk page, is that, in my humble opinion, the article in its present form is not encyclopedic, and that it should be deleted until a consensus is developed about a truly encyclopedic version. But then I will leave the matter into your able hands. I remain at your disposal to clarify any further questions, and by so doing offer you my heartfelt regardsCerme (talk) 16:35, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Banff Editathon

Hey Diannaa. A librarian with the Banff Centre asked me if I knew any Albertan wikipedians who might be interested in an editathon the Centre is putting on in March. So I thought I'd mention it to you, being Albertan and all. Hope you are well, The Interior (Talk) 16:06, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

So cool. Thanks for the invitation -- Diannaa (talk) 16:12, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Nicholas D'Agostino Sr.

Hi,

I hate to be a pain but could I please get you to restore this page? The subject is notable and I was working on untangling the issues.

Cheers,

Mattwheatley (talk) 03:32, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

I restored it temporarily because I discovered I had put a wrong url in the deletion log; it's actually copied from https://www.questia.com/read/103874983/the-italian-american-experience-an-encyclopedia (a 78.2% match). I have re-deleted, as the content cannot remain here in its present form, being a copyright violation. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:42, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Just to expand on my response a bit: you can't bring copyright material onto the wiki, not even temporarily to work on it. Sorry, -- Diannaa (talk) 03:47, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Appreciate it. I stumbled across it and hadn't realised it was a copyvio. Cheers, -- Mattwheatley (talk) 11:18, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Ultraman again

Hi, Dianannaa, I was wondering if you would be willing to put a semi-protect on the article?

A user, stronjam, deleted the image you restored. If He acts again I intend to take him to SPI, given (1) he had never edited the article before, but used the same arguments a ryulong and restored an unfree image by ryulong (one not commented on in the text) and (2) his edits overlap with the gamergate controversy that recently was settled with arbcom banning ryulong.

After I followed Stefan2's suggestion that I delete the unfree picture from the convention, an IP user restored it. Given the article's edit history I expect to see this fought out slowly by proxy for a while. Semiprotection will at least allow us to identify any socks. Thanks again for your help.

BTW, you don't happen to do SPI's, yourself do you? I will watch here. Thanks. μηδείς (talk) 17:34, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

I don't work the SPI board except in the most clear-cut instances; I'm not suited to that line of work. My feeling about the Ultraman article is that it's a content dispute, with both IPs and registered users disagreeing with you as to what images should be included and where. Please try to settle it on the article talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 17:41, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
