Harassment edit

If you want me to I will semiprotect your talk page for a while to stop the anonymous user who keeps pestering you. I am always reluctant to protect a talk page as it can inconvenience innocent users too, but sometimes it is the best option. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:32, 3 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

That would be fine. Thanks for all your help.Deltasim (talk)

I've semiprotected it for a while. Let me know if you want the protection either removed or extended. You may like to create a second, unprotected, talk page in the background with a link to it from this page, so that legitimate users who can't edit here can post there instead. (Say User talk:Deltasim/Open or something of the sort.) Obviously in theory the disruptive editor could post there too, but for some reason that doesn't usually happen: maybe there's no fun in trolling if it's not visible to everyone. Anyway, it's up to you, but I found it helped when my talk page had to be semiprotected because of persistent vandalism. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:42, 3 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

(By the way, Gimmetrow hasn't edited for nearly two and a half months, so there's probably not a lot of point in asking for help there. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:45, 3 July 2011 (UTC))Reply

Could you clarify whether this is an edit of yours? DMacks (talk) 07:35, 5 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was going to ask the same question. It looks very much like someone impersonating you as a ruse to be able to continue the vandalism. A "Whois" check also indicates that it was sent by a user using one of the ISPs that the vandal has used. Please let me know whether it was you or not. JamesBWatson (talk) 07:50, 5 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Having now seen Special:Contributions/Mr._Curious_Man, I have no doubt that this was, as I thought all along, the troublesome editor trying to get round page protection. The user is clearly willing to use any methods, including making edits that pretend to come from you. However, I would still be grateful if you can explicitly confirm that the edit was not made by you. JamesBWatson (talk) 08:29, 5 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The user reminds me of Bambifan. Next thing you know, that user will resort to sockpuppetry. Impersonating me? Whatever will he do next? I assure you I have not requested the blocks on talk page or Blinky Bill to be removed. I shall be glad the blocks remain until they expires. Deltasim (talk) 11:27, 5 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have blocked Mr. Curious Man. The last straw was removing a talk page comment of yours, but all the other disruptive editing both from the account and from an IP was taken into account too. I have also unprotected Blinky Bill (TV Series). If the trouble at the episode list continues please let me know and I will protect it. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:13, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I see that your "friend" has promised to evade the block by sockpuppetry. If and when it becomes evident that the threat is being carried out we will have another block to impose. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:38, 10 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

You may be interested in this sequence of edits: [1], [2], [3]. What I find most interesting here is that the person has already tied this trick and found it didn't work, but is apparently too stupid to realise it's not worth trying again. (Unless, of course, they do realise that, and are just trolling.) JamesBWatson (talk) 15:10, 12 July 2011 (UTC) I see what you mean. They never learn, these trolls. Deltasim (talk) 15:53, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

And again [4]. I no longer think it's stupidity. I am confident that the person knows full well how pointless it is. What sort of a life must they have if this sort of thing is what they need to do to get entertainment? JamesBWatson (talk) 18:10, 17 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • I protected this page for two weeks. Since that protection ran out the troublesome editor has returned to the page several times. Let me know if you want it protected again. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:45, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sure thing, thank you. Deltasim (talk) 11:46, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps I should have also asked for how long. I've given it 2 months. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:25, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

About the List of Arcade video game edits made recently edit

Hello. I noticed you had reverted a few game series to list only the series. Is this the established standard for lists such as these? I think, although it varies in usefulness from series to series, listing individual games is useful and expected on such a page (it is after all, a list), but I'm not especially wed to it. Listing the first game only seems limiting, especially when the other games often have their own dedicated page. I've been adding to the list off and on of late, and am glad to hear others opinions on the appropriate format. MrLeo (talk) 12:11, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I see what you mean. I thought that although Fatal Fury and King of Fighters are labeled as series, it couldn't hurt to apply the same to Metal Slug, but some people indeed may not be comfortable with just one title unless of course there was a way to highlight the "series" somehow. I shall stop erasing series for the time being so that a new idea can be applied. For the time being, I am changing links and erasing duplicate titles to save space in the list. Deltasim (talk) 12:27, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cheers - I'll refrain from touching any of the "series" entries for the time being while I look around at other lists and try and gauge the best format. There are certainly series that don't really need each individual game listed - the Beatmania games for example, but others, such as Fatal Fury could cause problems - Garou Mark of the Wolves may not be obviously a FF game to everyone, and some arcade versions of games came out after console editions - arcade releases are a bit of a mess to keep track of at times. I'm also at a loss on how to properly list the Nintendo PlayChoice and Vs. games. Thanks for responding and helping with the page. MrLeo (talk) 01:56, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Television episode and season articles badly needed edit

Based on your userbox display, I thought you might be interested in the lists at Wikipedia:Television_episodes#Episodes.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:17, 19 March 2012 (UTC) It's OK to remove this message. "Spacing fixes" edit

Just so you know, stripping out spaces like that doesn't make one iota of difference to the article download time. What it does do though is make it more difficult for us editors to maintain those pages. Hence I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't keep applying your "fix". Thank you. Regards, RJH (talk) 19:15, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I sincerely doubt it increases editing and maintaining difficulty when you have history comparing and search finding commands to scan the page. If however there is such a thing as a thing as optimum style, I'll stick with it. I would advise not to waste bytes of space you could use to add information and images to the article. For the time being I shall let the Krynn be, but why remove the image captions in the process? Thank you for your understanding. Deltasim (talk) 20:08, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's pretty easy to demonstrate. This:

<ref>{{cite web
 | first=Matt | last=Barton | date=2007-02-23
 | work=The History of Computer Role-Playing Games
 | title=Part 2: The Golden Age (1985-1993)
 | url=http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20070223b/barton_04.shtml
 | publisher=Gamasutra | accessdate=2009-03-16
}}</ref>

is easier to read, edit and maintain than this:

<ref>{{cite web|first=Matt| last=Barton|date=2007-02-23|work=The History of Computer Role-Playing Games|title=Part 2: The Golden Age (1985-1993)| url=http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20070223b/barton_04.shtml%7Cpublisher=Gamasutra|accessdate=2009-03-16}}</ref>

When the latter is buried amidst a ton of surrounding text and other citations, it can be an absolute headache to try and sort things out. (It's not quite as bad when WP:LDR is used.) As for the space issue, note a single image can takes up more bytes than dozens of text-only articles. It's not really saving much space to strip out the spaces in templates this, and your edit is now taking up additional space in the database. Thanks. Regards, RJH (talk) 22:12, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Persistent nuisances edit

Coming back to your talk page, I saw the messages above about the "Curious" vandal. Is it tempting fate to say that he hasn't been around for quite a while now, and maybe he eventually got tired of being blocked and went away? If so, it may give some slight hope that the same may happen with other persistent sockpuppeteers, if we keep blocking them and reverting their edits. On that subject, I have replied to your recent post on my talk page. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:47, 7 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Page protection edit

I have semi-protected your user page indefinitely. I see no problem at all in doing that. However, I am always reluctant to protect talk pages, as doing so stops edits from legitimate users. The fact that there has not been any IP edits to this page for just over a year also makes it doubtful whether there is any point. For the moment, I have compromised by semi-protecting it for a week. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:52, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot, I believe the temporary time on the talk page is fair enough. I'll just hope for the best. Your assistance is much appreciated. Deltasim (talk) 19:54, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Removing sortkeys from "List of..." articles edit

Hi Deltasim, I noticed that you had spent some time today removing sortkeys from the category tags for several "List of..." articles. I just wanted to mention that this is contrary to the guidelines. As you can see at WP:SORTKEY:

  • "Use a space as the sort key for a key article for the category."
  • "Use other sort keys beginning with a space (or an asterisk or a plus sign) for any "List of ..." and other pages that should appear after the key article and before the main alphabetical listings."

In other words, if we have a category called "Fictional ducks" then the article on "List of fictional ducks" should use "[[Category:Fictional ducks|*]]" and not simply "[[Category:Fictional ducks]]". If you get a moment, please correct the articles you've edited in this manner. -Thibbs (talk) 13:25, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I see what you mean, the asterix makes it top of the list so far as I've noticed. I'll fix them up right away. Deltasim (talk) 13:33, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

EDIT: Job's done. Shall be more careful in future. Deltasim (talk) 13:42, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • It's no big deal. Frankly several of the ones you changed were originally piped incorrectly using space as the sortkey. So overall it's a net positive I'd say. Thanks for fixing them. -Thibbs (talk) 14:56, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Cut-&-paste move edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Wolves in fiction a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into List of fictional wolves. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Infobox television edit

I wish you were around when I was having this discussion and this one too. --AussieLegend () 20:56, 29 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Very interesting discussions. It seems like Wikipedians has been trying to solve this issue on parameters for months. I would say that when sourcing websites on main, network, production, and distributor topics, make sure they are not directed at only a "single source". If you're having dilemmas on infoboxes, feel free to invite me for the discussions. Deltasim (talk) 05:58, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

In most cases the production_website parameter is unused, and the need for distributor website is limited to a single editor's opinion. The "website" parameter is easy to source, but there's no need to change the label. It's almost always just "website" or "official website". Next time I'm dragged into the silliness, I'll certainly take you up on your offer. Thanks. --AussieLegend () 08:24, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Freddi Fish dates edit

Hey Deltasim, sorry I'm going slowly on the dates. I have been going over sources all afternoon and I'm trying to collate what I've discovered now. Needless to say it's a bit messy. The sources that are currently used look good for the most part and I think there are a few more that can be added. I'll try to draw it all up soon so we can discuss it soon. Again, thanks for your great efforts on these articles. -Thibbs (talk) 01:44, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

OK I've been looking around for release dates and this is what I've come up with:

  • IGN release dates - These are available at five redundant URLs: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Specificlly, links 3, 4, and 5 are redundant with links 1 and 2 so te first two are all we really need. IGN is listed at WP:VG/RS as a reliable source so presumably these release dates should be largely acceptable.
  • Metacritic release dates - These are all available at this link: 6. Metacritic is also considered an RS at WP:VG/RS, so presumably those would be acceptable too.
  • Giant Bomb release dates - Again all available at a single link: 7. Giant Bomb is considered a situational source at WP:VG/RS so it might be acceptable, but I am a little concerned that the dates may fall on the unacceptable side of WP:VG/RS's advice re: "user contributed content from the site's article/database section".
  • Looking over the articles here at Wikipedia it looks like we're using a variety of sources. We use IGN, GiantBomb, MobyGames, and a number of SPS sources (e.g. Nintendo of America, GooglePlay, and Steam). This is an ideal use for SPSes so I think those citations are great. IGN is also probably fine, but Giant Bomb may not be ideal, and MobyGames is listed at WP:VG/RS as unreliable so that should probably go.
  • MobyGames release dates - I'll go over these too because even though they can't be used in the articles as sources, they may help clarify our thoughts in case there are conflicts between the actual RSes. MobyGames is also very useful for tracking down other RSes and the dates of these sources are offered as well so we might be able to eliminate some obviously wrong dates. The list is available here: 8

And speaking of conflicts,... the sources that I've been reading through often do disagree with each other which makes our job more difficult. We'll have to use editorial discretion to determine which is the more likely date. This may be quite tricky, and might require the use of explanatory footnotes that mention the less likely dates with sources. I can explain more about that idea if you'd like, but for now I'll just present a set of tables to show my findings:

July 2015 edit

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fun School 6. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. – czar 18:52, 26 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just needed second opinions. That's all. No canvassing was intended. I don't think that a minimal of four contacts amounts to "Mass Posting". And the chosen contacts are not based on their opinions, but their experience, so I haven't reached a "Partisan" or "Biased" status, after all I don't count on their votes to be in my favour but to improve matters and to find an alternative to a hasty deletion. Deltasim (talk) 22:46, 26 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
You don't ask specific people to participate unless they have an obvious vested interest in the article and they might not see the notification otherwise. There's no reason to canvass four specific people without mentioning why it's necessary on the AfD page. It's done now, but it shouldn't have been done, and you can revert your edits if you choose. Thanks. – czar 23:15, 26 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

um... does Super Mario actually count as *fiction*? Afaik it doesn't really have a narrative per se. Tamtrible (talk) 17:46, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's a fictional franchise, with it's own world and beings. Perhaps the title should be renamed so that I'm referring to the world of Mario and not Mario himself? Deltasim (talk) 21:55, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Disney's Animated Storybook edit

Hi @Deltasim:!! I saw that you created the article on edutainment video game series Magic Tales, which inspired me to continue working on a very similar article called Disney's Animated Storybook. I was wondering if you'd care to head over to my article and copyedit it for me? Together we can make this article awesome.--Coin945 (talk) 16:23, 12 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • I'll do my best. There are lot of edutainment articles I am particularly pleased to have worked on, such as the Humongous Entertainment titles Pajama Sam and Freddi Fish. Deltasim (talk) 18:21, 12 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Reader Rabbit edit

  • Thank you so much @Deltasim: for all your hard work in taking Disney's Animated Storybook articles to the next level. My focus for now is to increase the visibility of the highly popular and award-winning edutainment series Reader Rabbit. I've been working on improving the series article, and creating articles on each individual game, as they are all notable in their own right, and have each sold exceptionally well. I would love for you to help me in this area if you would like. This tool (below) is very handy.--Coin945 (talk) 07:23, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I finished making some minor changes to the Disney Animated Storybooks. I'll help out with the Reader Rabbit series in any way I can and those tools will indeed help. If you'd like to help out on other articles, go to Draft:Edmark House Series and Draft:School Zone Interactive. Happy editing. Deltasim (talk) 12:39, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much. Reader Rabbit has to be completely revamped from the start because the article was full of fancruft (lists of every single character and song etc.). But I'm sure we can give the series some justice. Just like the other article we collaborated on, I'll head to those two articles and take them to the next level. Video game articles are my speciality, so I'll start with Edmark House Series first, and afterwards I might try my hand at the company article. :D--Coin945 (talk) 13:00, 18 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Taking your drafts to the mainspace edit

I've noticed that you have a few draft articles. I want to help you take them to the main page. Make a list of all of your userfied articles such as Draft:Edmark House Series , and any that we think are notable enough, can be worked on and entered into WP:AFC.--Coin945 (talk) 13:26, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Only two articles I created are marked as drafts which are the Edmark House series and Draft:School Zone Interactive. However there a few articles with need for improvement including Magic Tales, Gregory and the Hot Air Balloon, Darby the Dragon, Fun School and Gold Series. Outside the edutainment area I have stub articles such as The Palace of Deceit, The Rats, Spirit of the Stones and Wicked. I once attempted to create an article on Cameron Stelzer's "Pie Rats" series, but after a number of negative issues on awards, the whole article was deleted and I keep a back up in my sandbox. It would be beneficial to turn those articles into fully encyclopedic material. Deltasim (talk) 08:45, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I submitted Draft:Edmark House Series for AFC - I think it is ready. I also think you should nominate American Girls for DYK. I'm also about to create Thinkin' Things.--Coin945 (talk) 14:56, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think the improvements you made to the Edmark House Series are fantastic as it says more than enough to make the article notable. Thinkin' Things is another fantastic Edmark series to write an article about. I've never heard or tried American Girls, but a google search tells me it's an interesting series focused on the topic of Drama. If you want to investigate some more edutainment titles, check out the articles in the Microsoft Home article, which also includes the Magic School Bus series. There are also some forgotten titles such as Bodyworks Voyager – Mission in Anatomy. Keep up the good work. Deltasim (talk) 16:51, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Reader Rabbit for DYK edit

Hi Deltasim!

My aim is to get Reader Rabbit eligible for DYK. To do this I need to expand the "readable prose" by five times. Which is very doable as the article is so barebones and stubby atm. I would greatly appreciate your help in this regard. The series is so popular and successful that the amount of sources out there is a little daunting tbh, so I think a collaboration is in order. Wadaya say?--Coin945 (talk) 19:14, 27 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I like the idea. Any time I have a moment, I shall examine the reader rabbit and related articles and expand on them with useful information. I might dig up something very useful. Thanks for contacting me and I shall enjoy this team work. Deltasim (talk) 16:00, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
The DYK only works if the nomination happens within a week of the expansion. So when you first edit Reader Rabbit, the clock starts ticking. (Try to stay focussed on the main series article, as that's the one I hope to nominate). ^_^ --Coin945 (talk) 16:23, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, so what sort of content do you wish to add? I would expand on the evolution of the series, how the series have helped child learning development and confirmed future products. A quick search around the internet has revealed the existence of a Reader Rabbit Video Tape titled "Reader Rabbit Sing-A-Song Adventures" at https://archive.org/details/ReaderRabbitSingASongAdvenures_201302 . I don't if this find belongs in "The Learning Company" article or the "Reader Rabbit" article, but the company established a set of key standards to the series called "A.D.A.P.T." at http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/new-adapt-learning-technologytm-helps-kids-get-the-most-out-of-their-software-experience-74942522.html . It's going to be quite a search, but I'll gather enough links and information before I can start any editing. Deltasim (talk) 16:50, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well the main sections we need to add are: "Development" (could have subsections like "Inspiration" and "Design" and "Music"), "Plot" (not plot of individual games but a general idea of what the games are about) "Gameplay", "Critical reception", and "Awards and nominations". A "Legacy" section could include the additions to the franchise beyond video games (like "Reader Rabbit Sing-A-Song Adventures"), as well as "A.D.A.P.T.". --Coin945 (talk) 18:37, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
A good place to start is at Highbeam which has 240 hits, The Free Library (97 hits), Google Books with preview, Google News, The New York Times, The WayBackMachine archive, Reader Rabbit home page, A bunch of reviews found via Google, At MobyGames, At CommonSenseMedia, At Superkids, At Wall Street Journal, PR Newswire At Google Scholar... Are you ready to jump down this *cough* rabbit hole with me? *extands hand* :)--Coin945 (talk) 18:37, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Interview request edit

Hello Deltasim,

I write for the WikiProject Video game Newsletter and I was wondering if you would be willing to answer some questions related to your work on educational and children's titles for our quarterly issue (due to come out April 2nd). I'm also asking Coin945 to answer these questions so we can combine your answers, but if you'd like to coordinate with him that would be fine too. Are there any others beside you and Deltasim who have been involved in edits to these kinds of articles? I know this is kind of a last minute request, so I'm sorry about that... If you are interested, you can see the questions I've written here. You can send me your answers in whatever format you prefer (directly editing my sandbox may be the easiest). Please let me know if you don't have the time or if you can't for other reasons too so I'm not left waiting indefinitely.

Thanks in advance, -Thibbs (talk) 14:21, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for contacting me. I liked working as a team with Coin945. I'll be happy to answer your questions. I'm sorry to say, that's it's just the two of us and I don't really know anyone else with an interest in the edutainment games around Wikipedia, but I would welcome additional help and support. You'll receive my answers soon enough and I'm glad to continue editing articles of those sort. Deltasim (talk) 14:38, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yay new project time! edit

As a new project, I was thinking you could join me in something I've done a lot of in my spare time: heading to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Requests page and creating some of the notable articles listed there. Many of the articles listed there have been added by me, and I haven't gotten aorund to creating them yet. It's a great way to discover some interesting and unique games, and tests your researching skills (e.g. you may need to search in different languages for some games!).--Coin945 (talk) 10:57, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Have done a draft of "Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold" in my sandbox (shelved and backed up "JumpStart" material). Most of those games I have never heard of and don't fit in the Educational Games category, but it will certainly put my researching skills to the test. Deltasim (talk) 13:13, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ahh of couse! I forgot about Jumpstart. I think it should be worked on asap before it becomes stale. Lets also try and add some content then addc it back to the main article. :)--Coin945 (talk) 14:37, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

We could work on The Oregon Trail (series)--> a franchise article for all the Oragon Trail, Amazon Trail, Africa Trail etc. games. It's one of the most successful and popular video game series of all time, but currently we only have articles on the individual games (and they could use massive improvement).--Coin945 (talk) 02:08, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'll check out the Trail articles and give them some polishes. I can see that The Oregon Trail (video game) has a lot of material that would be better off in a main article covering the series. I did find a number of useful links:

MayaQuest - The Oregon Trail game without an article edit

Just throwing it out there: this game has been sitting in the Requests article in the VG Wikiproject for a while. Might be funt o make an article. I have a bunch of random sources here for you to take a peek at. It's really interesting because the game is connected to some kind of real-life Mayan expedition.... (I never quite worked out the full details). I'd do it myself but life has gotten super busy for me so I am forced to take a backseat and be your cheerleader from the sidelines. :D--Coin945 (talk) 15:12, 8 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Your new Reader Rabbit article edit

Just a heads up, I don't think there's enough on most individual games within the reader rabbit series for their own articles. We created articles on the few major ones. But other than that, I think all ifno should be folded into the series article. The article you're currently putting effort into may struggle to stay on Wikipedia. I'd suggest investing your time into a different project. Perhaps something from the Requests page? Or perhaps you could expand some existing stubs. I'm surprised by how many existing articles on quite popular games need some desperate help.

Update edit

Here are some adventure games that I collected sources for. Perhaps there's something you can do with them. :D--Coin945 (talk) 08:23, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

1991 Apogee Catalog edit

Hey, regarding the 1991 Apogee Catalog source you've been adding to a few articles- I know by 1993 they were calling it the [month] [year] catalog; do you have a more specific release timeframe for the catalog than "1991"? And do you have a page number for the Commander Keen release date? (it was software, right? Did it have page numbers?) Thanks! --PresN 12:20, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

The 1991 catalog file was bundled with Duke Nukem. According to the file date, the month is November and the day is the first. Deltasim (talk) 12:42, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Fury: The Nightmare Begins! edit

On this page you added this video game to the Index of DOS games: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Index_of_DOS_games_(F)&oldid=730804348

It looks like you entered an incomplete Release year. I have removed the year, but if you know the correct release year, feel free to add it back. Thank you.

Epic Baseball date edit

Hey, I'm not sure on that Epic Baseball date you added- it says "coming by February 1994", sure, but of the other two games that it says, Jazz Jackrabbit didn't come out till June, and there's another source (though maybe it's wrong?) saying Xargon came out in 1993. Not sure that's solid enough to say Epic Baseball came out in February. On a different note, great job with the Sierra and LucasArts lists! --PresN 15:02, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

That could be a genuine mistake on Epic Megagames part. However Epic Baseball was more likely to be released in the year 1994 and not 1995 like many websites seem to think. The Epic Baseball catalog says that "One Must Fall: 2097" would be released in January 1993, which is very unlikely. I also found that Epic Pinball had its soundtrack created using the Scream Tracker software, so it's unlikely that it was released before 1994, unless it came without audio. Thanks for the feedback. Help in how to upload pictures edit

Hi! Hey, sorry if i'm bothering you but i need help! Can you show me how to upload pictures like this one at File Upload Wizard? Thanks! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sunsoft_Exhibit_CES_Photo.png Do The Math (talk) 21:40, 6 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

I got this picture from a magazine. You can access magazines like these on the archive.org pages (in this case Video game magazines). Simply zoom the magazine to a view you can see it properly and Printscreen it. Paste the printscreened image on an image editor (I used Microsoft Paint) and crop it until you get the photograph as a neat image and save it. Use the Wikipedia Upload wizard to put it on Wikipedia and finally place in the appropriate article. Does that help? Deltasim (talk) 11:22, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

I need to say something. edit

I've noticed you were hoping a page for "An American Tail: The Computer Adventures of Fievel and His Friends" to be created. Well, I've tried to have that page created, but Sphilbrick reported and deleted that page and accused me for creating "copyright infringement". I became devastated by this. If anybody is jerk enough to accuse me for infringing copyright material, then I have no business creating a page on this site. I wasn't trying to profit anything or using copyright images. List of Volition games edit

Hi Deltasim, I recently expanded the Volition article, and I saw that you created the associated List of Volition games article, thus I wondered whether you could help me improve the list article. Things that are missing include the Parallax games (Descent 1, 2, Maximum), some canceled titles (Tube Racer, Underground, Summoner 3, Red Faction 3), as well as a mention that there were supposed to be three Insane games. Some details like the cancelation date for Insane should be adjusted. Regards. Lordtobi () 23:33, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Just saw your changes, thanks for that! Do you think you could also add something regarding the cancelled Red Faction game (also mentioned in the Game Informer documentary)? Lordtobi () 20:03, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'll see what I can do. Every time I look for "Red Faction 3" I always get "Red Faction: Guerrilla" in searches. It will be tricky, but I hope to get some useful notable results. Deltasim (talk) 22:45, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for your continued work. I noticed that you added Outrage's games to the article, please note that the two companies were entirely separate from another, though formed out of the same roots. Outrage was, funnily, acquired by Volition owner THQ in 2004. Should we move their games to a seperate page? Lordtobi () 14:27, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Probably it's better that it is moved to Outrage Games. Both companies went in two different directions. I have no idea how much Volition was involved in Descent 3 if at all. I shall do the transfer immediately. Deltasim (talk) 14:41, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I would love to collaborate with you on an edutainment article. edit

Perhaps the MindPower series by The Learning Company (TLC)?

  • Mind Power Math: Basic Math
  • Mind Power Math: High School
  • Mind Power Math: Pre Algebra
  • Mind Power Math: Calculus
  • Mind Power Math: Geometry
  • Mind Power Math: Algebra 2
  • Mind Power Math: Middle School
  • Mind Power Science Grades 7-12
  • Mind Power Science: Biology, Light & Electricity

Or if you felt like a bit of a challenge, it would be super exciting to write an article on The Learning Company (formerly SoftKey), the company that gobbled up 14 educational companies in the 1990s (including TLC and taking its name), whose actions arguably led to the dissolution of the edutainment industry.

What do you say?--Coin945 (talk) 16:26, 1 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'll get started on researching the MindPower Series. Deltasim (talk) 21:27, 1 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Better source request for File:Alice Comedies Poster.jpg edit

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:58, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Venture windows 3 game. edit

I was wondering if you had any additional information in the game "Venture" developed by Richard Foley in 1994? I believe you added the game to the list. 86.7.0.92 (talk) 08:53, 29 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

You can see something of it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9AT6BagITY&t=271s . The game consists of navigating through octagonal rooms. Think of it as a D&D game akin to "Eye of the Beholder", but with eight direction and much more interaction with your surroundings. I'm not sure where you can acquire a copy of the full version. Every downloadable version scattered across the internet has always been shareware. In the Makalu scenario there are many references to Lord of the Rings as well one to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Also that first scenario doesn't seem to be winnable due to a design error on defeating the Carnivorous plant plus the way the inventory works when dropping treasures in the start room. You can make your own scenarios in the shareware version, but you cannot save them. Hope that information helps. Deltasim (talk) 11:13, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Killing Blade edit

The article The Killing Blade has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

lack of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Puppy Surprise moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Puppy Surprise, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 10:42, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable non-free use File:BeenaLiteConsole.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:BeenaLiteConsole.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SergioFLS (talk) 14:25, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
