Mehar Singh (pilot)

Hi, you have tagged Mehar Singh (pilot) with peacock and tone tags. I think you missed checking the reference link I provided. The official website of Indian Air Force calls him the Legend of IAF - http://indianairforce.nic.in/show_page.php?pg_id=296 - please refer the link. I'm removing these tags, hope its fine. Vinod (talk) 17:04, 18 October 2014 (UTC) Vinod (talk) 17:04, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

@Vinodtiwari2608: Actually no, I think those tags should stay. (And the correct links areWP:Peacock and WP:Tone) The word "legend" is far from the only 'peacock' term used. As for 'tone' "A worthy life was thus cut short abruptly!", one example of many on the page, to me sounds 'fannish' and wp:POV rather than encyclopaedic. And it is un-cited, though it is a direct quote (which should be acknowledged!) of [1] which is also ref № 4.
This seems to be a good source, [2] if you need another one. And I note that this seems to be the source of the short poem at the end of the page. Such quotes must be acknowledged!
And I now see that the page has been deleted whilst I typed this reply as a copyright infringement! :-/ 220 of Borg 17:43, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
@220 of Borg: Thanks for sharing the information. Is there any way I can get post content so that I can get email approval from original publisher to avoid any copyright issues. I have recently started contributing to Wikipedia, I'm learning and trying to follow things. Thanks.Vinod (talk) 17:56, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
@Vinodtiwari2608: As far as I know, the copyright holder would have to be willing to place the content into the public domain, which seems unlikely. All I can suggest is reading up about Singh, and then writing his Wikipedia page in your own words. You have to avoid close paraphrasing, though you can quote from sources. Singh seem worthy of a page, just try not too be too laudatory about him, which some of the sources seem to be! --220 of Borg 18:16, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Dlasthr

@Derek R Bullamore: I've got 'that' feeling again!  . Some of those new source titles at Dlasthr look a little 'odd' though: "No Cookies"?? All seem to be 'The Daily Telegraph' sources.

The Telegraph has a weekly 'free article' limit Do we have a special template to add to the ref to indicate that, or is {{Subscription required}} the one to use? I also found {{link note}}(intended for external links) and {{link note|note=Weekly free article limit}} gives (Weekly free article limit), which seems correct.

Apparently this is called a 'metered paywall' [3] and allows 5 free pages per week.
(Metered paywall-5 free articles a week) perhaps? But if you register, "then an additional 10 per week at the Herald Sun and 15 per week at The Daily Telegraph."

@AkhilHulk: Well it's about time!   Editors on Wikipedia (WP) get extremely frustrated when another editor, new or not, fails to answer multiple warning or help messages on their talk page. They feel like they have been wasting their time, or that it is deliberate and the editor is a Troll.
I had better things to do than keep 'chasing' after you!
• I edited the page again while you were writing here. I "copy edited; removed titles, removed wp:POV language and wp:peacock terms, etc." All of which I believe are in accordance with normal WP practices.
• The page is still not properly referenced. Cited footnotes are needed. Please see Help:Referencing for beginners.
• If you have any genuine problems with my edit/s, please mention on the talk page at Talk:T. S. Nandakumar, rather than here.
• To be fair to you, be advised I brought your editing up 'privately' with another experienced editor with an interest in carnatic music at User talk:VasuVR#T. S. Nandakuma. @110.20.234.69: You're welcome, though it only takes a few mouse clicks using a utility called Twinkle for the edit summary message. The other was a 'custom' written message, but I actually copied it from somewhere else I recently used it. (They weren't so happy to get it and just deleted it!   )
The 2014 Sydney hostage crisis page is now Semi-protected due to numerous, repetitive 'un-constructive' edits, here, by one IP editor, here. They were blocked at that IP addresss, but started hopping to other IPs and continuing on. I see you did some decent work on the 'Reactions' and 'Evacuations' sections, sourced too.
You can still contribute to that page by checking it for typos, other errors, or looking for sources and mentioning such on the talk page. You can even double-check whether other editors edits are correct! Especially newer editors who may not be aware of policies like Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons (WP:BLP). That applies to things like naming the 'perpetrator'.
I was in exactly your position when I was an IP editor for 2 years, and the Fort Hood Shooting occurred. ---220 of Borg 10:21, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for that - it's really disappointing. When are the clamps likely to be taken off? I also worked on the transport section. I didn't think that just saying the person was known to police, with a reliable news source, would be problematic. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 10:50, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Not long. It was only a short protection, but I think it is likely to be quickly protected again for longer as I think the vandalism will start again. Not sure what you mean about the naming. WP policy requires that you have very reliable sources when dealing with wp:Biographies of living persons (WP:BLP), especially for 'controversil' information.--220 of Borg 11:10, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

LOL, thanks - this is really frustrating. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 05:33, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Actually, so far I've found that I don't get "notifications", just the orange bar when someone posts on my talk page. I don't see a red number against my user name, because I don't have one. Perhaps the social media style notifications don't work for IPs? I find it difficult enough to edit Wikipedia without being expected to know exactly how to work all the different bells and whistles (notifications, pings and talkbacks) that let me talk to someone. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 06:03, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes 110.20.234.69 (talk) that would be the "Annoying Orange Bar", as I call it. At least it's hard to miss! I wasn't sure, but thought notifications wouldn't work for IPs. Takes time to learn "bells and whistles", but there are so many templates that you are likely to only learn (manually anyway) those you use frequently. (See WP:UTM) There are utilities like wp:Huggle, wp:AutoWikiBrowser and wp:Twinkle, which I use, that make many tasks a lot easier, but are only available to 'registered' users. I even learned a new trick from you, that talk-page reflist thingy {{reflist-talk}}, which I don't recall seeing before. 220 of Borg 13:30, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Annoying it may be, in a "What Have I Done Wrong Now" kind of way, but it's the only way I can easily see who's talking to me. There are so many rules and so much special etiquette involved in editing Wikipedia, even in an uncommitted way. According to the 'notifications' page, the interface changes dramatically when you sign up to when you edit as an IP. :( The high level of assumed knowledge is even addressed on the criticism of Wikipedia article. I can't remember where I found the reflist talk template, but I hope it helps you. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 19:33, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
110.20.234.69 (talk) it certainly changes, and you get the ability to customise it a lot with 'Preferences', which IPs don't have any control of. Not sure about 'dramatically', as I find I don't notice when I have been 'automatically' logged out. A few 'tabs' disappear, but nothing dramatic. I have the standard 'skin' I think, so its not that apparent, but it is apparently possible make it look totally different, even screen colour I think.
I need some sleep, as that siege happened just as I was just going to bed (almost 2 days ago!) and I haven't had enough since so I'll be off-line for at least 6 hours (if I'm lucky!) What I call 'UzT' (Universal zleepy Time, as in Zzzzz Zzz) :-\ ₪ 220 of Borg 20:20, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks - I think there's still more to be mined from that source, but at least it's in the article, with some key points about Monis's entry into Australia, security guard licence, legal ability to carry guns in '97 and name changes. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 18:02, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder - I'm finding that the automatic ISBN citation maker (cite book where it fills it in just from the ISBN) doesn't work for the joint review yet. (And in the nsw govt response to the review, there's rumblings of amendments to the bail act...) Shame that the security guard licence was within his grasp.--110.20.234.69 (talk) 05:15, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Just like I can't recieve '@' messages, it doesn't look like I can send them, either. I tried using it on my page, but it doesn't look like you've gotten any notification. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 20:32, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Satwant_Singh_Dhaliwal

With respect.

"If "Dhaliwal" is his surname, you should be using that rather than "Satwant" after the first use of his full name. One ref is called "Brief Bio of Satwant Singh Dhaliwal..." with no other information That needs fixing, you can't verify anything with that. I'd suggest use of {{citation}}: Empty citation (help) templates wherever possible, and links to any on-line sources with access dates.220 of Borg 09:26, 30 March 2015 (UTC)"

I have changed all the intext Satwants to Dhaliwals.

I have removed brief bio and with that the names of his mother and elementary and high schools.

I have been using the MLA standard of citation.

I have used almost exclusively physical print copies of books and newspapers at the library rather than online sources - The late Professor Dr. Dhaliwal did not publish online and retired in 1992, before we had the internet in Malaysia.

Is this now okay with the removal of the brief bio reference?

Thank you jefferyseow (talk) 03:57, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

@Jefferyseow: Whatever style of wp:reference is acceptable per WP official policy is Ok with me (I'm not even sure what 'style' the Cite template uses!) Printed sources are fine, I tried Googling the recent newspapers (The Star) and it appears they aren't online at all. In my opinion, the more information the better, like if a book is used provide the ISBN if possible, for a newspaper the issue number, if it has one, too. Language of source too, as it looks like some will be non-English. I think the most important thing, assuming notability is wp:Verifiability. If you make a 'claim' there has to be a wp:reliable source.
  • The lead should be a summary of the body text, so should be expanded. Notable achievements/discoveries say.
  • The publication section should be pared down IMHO as it is more than the entire text of the rest of the page. Fiddle Faddle (Timtrent) says: "select only a few works of excellence", which I agree with.
  • Some of the references are best reformatted as 'true' footnotes, such as the comment (№ 2) on the various names he is known by. See WP:REFGROUP.
  • P.s. 'wiki'-linking only requires dual square brackets thus: [[Draft:Satwant Singh Dhaliwa]] links to Draft:Satwant Singh Dhaliwal.
I think this is the first time I've commented on a Draft, I hope it helped. 220 of Borg 05:48, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
@220 of Borg:
(Sigh of frustration). The last time I provided ISBN numbers I was told that my citation did not follow any normal forms - as far as I know the usual academic citation formats (I use http://www.easybib.com/cite/view to make sure I get them right) do not include ISBN data. Also, you need to know the time frame of the publications - ISBN was only introduced in the West in 1965 but found its way into Malaysian books much, much later. The Star and the Straits Times do not have issue numbers. But I have always included the date and the page numbers for those.
Please let me know how you would pare down the publication section since there is no existing index of his publications (and even the one I put together isn't complete/comprehensive - he wrote THAT much). How can I expand the lead when everyone is cutting down by bodytext - his research activities in the various institutes and with various academics, both notable, have been removed because they come from his unpublished bio and resume, both of which have now been removed and therefore also the information that rely on them. The lead, therefore is about as expanded as it can be without repeating the existing body text. Bottom line, he wrote an awful lot and much on varied areas of genetics. I could not say which of his efforts was not more excellent that which.
I have attempted to model my entry after the one on Einstein but have been accused of being overly entertaining (read the one on Einstein) and having too many publications (read the one on Einstein). I could not find any Footnotes in Einstein's entry and no one has given me another example, perfect example, that I can model my entry after, that will please and meet everyone's requirements.
Everybody says if you have a claim there has to be a reliable source. But no one has told me which of the claims I have made do not have a reliable source excepting the ones who pointed to the bio and resume, both of which have been removed along with his Mother's name and the names of his elementary and highschool which come from those two sources, as well as his research work all over the world which come from there also.
Thank you jefferyseow (talk) 06:28, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

I have WP:indented your text a little, as is usual on talkpages, and moved some text you added after it, to before your sig. so it is obviously your comment
I know! (Sigh!) Mind you, it looks a lot better than many BLPs! If no ISBNs then obviously you can't provide them, though I have often found them with a title and author. If the citation style you are using doesn't use them, obviously you don't need them. As for the lead perhaps you could just add:
"He wrote many books and scientific papers on Genetics, such as [insert major works here]"
(Obvious fact from the list below!)
Modelling a BLP on Albert Einsteins may be the problem, I mean Einstein? A pretty formidable intellect, apparently!
I don't know how you would pare the publications down. Not my area of expertise. Are there any works that Dhaliwal is particularly recognised for? (like Einsteins' Theory of Relativity, E=mc2?) It appears me that the 'Publications' section is longer than Einstein's!
I am not suggesting that there are any unsupported claims now, but you have done the right thing in removing those that are unverifiable.
All too often people do put false information on WP BLPs. Just last night there was a new editor complaining about a false claim on Claire Robinson that (among other un-sourced claims) her brother had died in a bike accident, see here. The unsourced text had been added by an IP editor here about 8.5 days before. Such things (wp:BLP violations) are taken seriously on WP.
For languages (Malay-language) is unnecessary, just (Malay) should do, though that leads to a DaB page, the exact language should be stated. 220 of Borg 09:51, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Murder of Keith William Allan

You appear to have relied on a newspaper report as to the date of death. The report of the Coroner, which is most authoritative, gives the date as 28 or 29 May 2000. It may have been before midnight on 28 May or after midnight on 29 May. As there is no body the exact time of death is not likely to be ascertainable. 124.180.139.196 (talk) 12:36, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

@124.180.139.196: I used what I could find. There wasn't any day/month of death until I added it, and it does say 'circa'. If you have a link to the coroners report, please give it. 28/29 May 2000 would be quite acceptable, given there is no certainty. 220 of Borg 14:00, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

I did notice the SPAs like CourtneyMH, Rjh104108rjh, then a lot of other edits from various IPs like 202.188.211.175 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (Butterworth, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia; ISP TMnet Telekom Malaysia), 67.85.67.47 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (Bronx, NY; ISP: Optimum), 174.50.140.181 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (Clovis, CA; ISP: Comcast), 186.77.206.203 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (Managua, Nicaragua; ISP: Telematix/ Enitel), 74.192.0.115 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (College Station, Texas; ISP: Suddenlink Communications). April 2013 misplaced talk page comment by 132.64.195.128

Hi Mate. Hope you got my earlier query re the "Rabbi Menachem Mendel Monsohn" article that I uploaded yesterday. If not - can you please tell me what the problem is with it so I can correct it? thanks for your help. Hello 220 of Borg - I hope I have the correct place now. (Somehow it the comments always seemed to open in the other place, so it's hard for me to keep it all straight.)

Your comments: "Personal communication, person's name, date" are not acceptable as a source. I mean, people could say anything (they still try, without sources!) Something 'published' in a reliable source is the basic requirement. Book, newspaper, television, video, journal, on-line, government and other 'reliable' websites. Twitter, Youtube, Myspace, Facebook or other social media sites are Self published sources and generally not acceptable as sources. No not quotations, I mean 'sources'. Each source can apply to more than one place in the text, that's what I mean by a citation, the little [2][3] etc symbols that link to the sources in the References section. See wp:Referencing for beginners which should explain it better than I can. Your last there I think refers to User:Monsohn Family of Jerusalem and the A.L. Monsohn Lithography which has been moved to your sandbox by an admin. not by me, I am not an admin. (Click on the red link above for more info), If you no longer want that page put template {{Db-u1}} on it and it will be deleted. Sorry for late reply, I started it then 'nodded' off, it's late here (UTC +10!) 220 of Borg 19:22, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

The outright rejection of "personal communications" is very problematic. I don't know if you guys are researchers or what, and if so, if in the humanities (like me) or maybe the natural sciences, computer science, whatever. In the humanities, we are sometimes faced with a situation where we interview reliable "informants," who are the only ones who actually have certain knowledge about various people, events, etc. Rather than allowing this information to get lost, WE put it in writing, and then our work can be cited by others. In the case of some of the information about M.M. Monsohn and others mentioned in the article, his family members are the only ones who knew this information. They have no reason to make it up (since they have nothing to gain by it; some of it isn't even complimentary). Because I have to work full time, I'm trying to add the documentation from written sources - and there is more - little by little, in the evenings (talking about nodding off... here it's 11 pm... a bit late for an "old timer" like me). But I really don't think we should give up on all of the personal details known only to family members because a lot of the nitty-gritty is there, and if we don't put it into writing, it will disappear. As I say, this is common practice in the humanities, referred to as "personal communications." It's like serious television or radio or newspaper reporting - only a reporter who could publish the communications never took an interest in these people while they were alive, so at the moment there's no written record. I simply want to supply the written record. I hope in the end this will be acceptable. Take care, David David M. Bunis (talk) 19:55, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

PS - If this is the right place for my comments to you, great. If not, please direct me to your correct talk page. Thanks David M. Bunis (talk) 19:57, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

  • @David M. Bunis: your original placement of this message was wrong in two serious respects. However trivial or unimportant they may seem, you do not remove another editor's comments. You used a bare {{tl|Db-u1}} tag which had the effect of putting the page into CAT:CSD. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:53, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Range establishment for sniping

Snipers are selected and trained to be "good at estimating range and reading wind". For extreme long range shooting like Mr. Harrison did that really is not good enough. The CheyTac Intervention article deals with the most common technical accessories used for long range sniping. The most practical way to establish range is using laser range finder binoculars. Snipers can have the problem that their adversaries are technically able to spot laser beam emissions and hence give their presence and location away, but the adversaries of Mr. Harrison were most probably not able to do that. Besides that accurate measuring mil spec laser rangefinder binoculars that do not emit for the unaided eye visible laser beams are as or more expensive than a mil spec sniper rifle and scope. What technical equipment Mr. Harrison had at hand besides his scoped rifle to help him to establish the required aiming solution we do not know. Mr. Harrison mentioned about 9 spotting shots before he obtained his aiming solution.--Francis Flinch (talk) 14:58, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Newtownbreda

Hi, good work on this page & thanks for letting me know. I disagree about making a separate page though, the article is little more than a stub as it is.

I've one query on your edit; You say "A Tesco store was built on the site next to the NIFSL (on a brownfield site, formerly a Stewarts Warehouse)" -- but if you look at the site on Google Earth or similar the Tesco store is nestled in between the Trading Standards building & a reservoir, so I'm wondering where the NIFSL and/or Stewarts Warehouse was? Thanks, Mark83 (talk) 08:30, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

@Mark83: Wot? no link!
Re Newtownbreda, that information was added in this edit done by 86.12.6.226. So I have no idea about it. As for a separate page, I had never heard about this explosion, so I think it's notable enough for its own page, but there don't seem to be a lot of sources IIRC. Lots of smaller stubs about! 220 of Borg 08:53, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Apologies for assuming that was you! Yes but the aspiration is that a stub will be expanded, there is little to add on this topic (and few sources like you say) Mark83 (talk) 09:06, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Ravenshoe

Hello,

Thank you for your message to me. I was in Ravenshoe a few weeks ago looking for melaleucas for photos to add to List of Melaleuca species. I found a couple of beauties including the newly described Melaleuca lophocoracorum - "lophocoracorum" actually means Ravenshoe! I had a few meals at "Serves You Right".

I spent some time a few days ago adding some history to Ravenshoe and editing some other stuff. I would hate the page to be all about the explosion. I have also written to the headmaster of the local State School suggesting he asks students to edit the page with (well referenced) positive stuff about the town. An image of some attractive part (other than just a wind farm) would be great too. It would probably be best if the stuff about the tragedy was only a small part of the story. Ravenshoe has already suffered from the loss of local industries because of the World Heritage declaration and would benefit from some information about local attractions. (It is a great pity that the steam train does not seem to be running at the moment.)

I will not be able to edit Wikipedia pages for the next month or so - this is probably my last contibution for a while. Please keep an eye on the Ravenshoe page for me.Gderrin (talk) 01:17, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Gderrin no worries. Eating at the cafe you possibly met the manager who has now died? The cafe explosion content is a bit 'newsy' actually. (See WP:RECENTISM) Unfortunately, for it to be notable enough for a seperate page, it would probably require more deaths! I have considered a separate article for the Quakers Hill Nursing Home Fire (with 11 deaths) for example. That had some lasting impact as far as legislative change IIRC. 220 of Borg 05:31, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

I think the manager and his wife were overseas when the incident occurred and that Nicole Dempsey was only looking after the business for them. It was probably her parents who served me. I agree with everything you have said. Gderrin (talk) 05:40, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

As you say, the owners of the Cafe were her parents per this source. And she was a mother of 2. 220 of Borg 06:56, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Ray Watson

Thanks heaps for that - I had not expected to really have to update that page very much! I think the attacks could very easily sustain an article, given the number of notable people involved and the way the references describe them ("one of Sydney's biggest unsolved crimes", etc.). The only challenge would be knowing exactly how much to include under that banner - hopefully the progress in the case will help illuminate some of the murkier details. Frickeg (talk) 08:12, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

@Frickeg: No worries. I was considering creating David Opas once before. Probably why I was so aware of the Family Court attacks, though I was undoubtedly aware of them back then. (Yes, I was around, back then). But, my attention was grabbed immediately I heard about the arrest. Opas' Australian Dictionary of Biography (ADB) Bio says "... it was thought to be the first occasion in which a judge was killed while holding office in Sydney."[5]. I started the bio, then saved it accidentally, without even having a referenced on it! Silly, though I have pages I have been working on, or started ages ago, that are still not in mainspace, so it made sure that didn't happen. Oddly Ray Watson (judge), has no ADB bio.
Yes, this arrest will undoubtedly bring a lot of information out, I mean at least four dead, another shooting murder, at least 2 bombings, and IIRC more attempts, like a bomb found in a (presumably judge's) car.
And thanks for the review, feel free to edit the page! (Oh you have!)  . 220 of Borg 08:56, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
No problem! And it isn't really odd that Ray Watson has no ADB page - you have to have been dead for a long time before you're even eligible. I believe they're currently writing entries for people who died in 1992, so Watson will have to wait a while for his. Frickeg (talk) 08:59, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
@Frickeg: Ah, that factoid sounds familiar! ADB does make a nice central source for info though. I wonder if they need any bio writers? That extra date on Watson must have been me, dropping and copying a date rather than 'dragging' it where I wanted it. [[File:|25px|link=]] 220 of Borg 09:12, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Nice start with the attacks article! I don't think I have much to add since this isn't really my area (the only way I came to write the Watson article is that he ran a few times as a Liberal candidate for federal and state elections in the 40s and 50s). I'm not sure about the title "Family Court attacks", though. There needs to be an extra descriptor in there somewhere. From what I understand they happened entirely in Sydney, so Sydney Family Court attacks might be a better option. Frickeg (talk) 12:47, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll keep the title in mind. Watson's page doesn't mention his political activities though. 220 of Borg 12:56, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Family Court of Australia attacks

For what it's worth, I don't think they need any more qualification: most sources I've seen (including the book about them) refer to them as the "Family Court murders", and the charges appear to cover all of the incidents described as a connected whole. It makes sense to refer to them as "attacks" considering there is an active murder trial going on, but if found guilty they should go back to Family Court of Australia murders. Misconception of use of flag in Info Box

Hello

I think there is some misunderstanding of use of Flag in Infobox WP:INFOBOXFLAG . Its clearly written that

"Human geographic articles – for example settlements and administrative subdivisions – may have flags of the country and first-level administrative subdivision in infoboxes";

and accompany flags with country names WP:MOSFLAG and Pakhanjore is a city .

International Code of Signals is to provide ways and means of communication in situations related essentially to safety of navigation and persons, especially when language difficulties arise

Flag icons should not be inserted in infoboxes in those cases  physical geographic articles – for example, islands, mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, swamps, etc. – and WP:FLAGBIO , WP:WORDPRECEDENCE

"Where a single article covers both human and physical geographic subjects (e.g. Manhattan, which covers both the borough of New York City and the island of the same name), or where the status of the territory is subject to a political dispute, the consensus of editors at that article will determine whether flag use in the infobox is preferred or not."

Please let me know why flag of india was removed from info-box of pakhanjore by User:220 of Borg and flags are not removed in the pages like Sitka, Anchorage, Wrangell, Mount Pearl , mumbai, delhi , pune , kanpur , surat ,agrameerut , Amritsar, nashik , jodhpur , there are 3000 plus pages where flag along with country name is used in the infobox.

Wikipedia:Editing policy according ti it , even the best articles should not be considered complete, as each new editor can offer new insights on how to enhance the content in it at any time.

And thanks for notifying me for not marking while contributing .I will be careful from my next edit .

I have joined Wikipedia on feb 2015 that doesn't mean i don't understand the language used to write it. I am an contributor and not from Typo Team WP:TYPO , Renuka  18:46, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

 * I have reformatted your post to make it obvious where you are quoting from the guidelines. Revert those changes if you object. 220 of Borg 06:07, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
@Renuka sarkar: (and @Ponyo:, who may have an interest.) I may have misread or misinterpreted the guidelines, (see also wp:wikilawyering) but the reason a flag was not removed by me from one page over another is simply that usually I only removed the flag when I edited those particular pages for other reasons. I personally don't see any great need for the flag as it has the linked word India next to it anyway, so it is very obvious what country the page is about.
Different countries WP:WikiProjects may have different practices as regards to what is included in the infoboxes of settled places (cities, towns, villages, hamlets etc) in those countries. WP:Other stuff exists, but city pages such as Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, and Toronto, don't have national flags on them, but San Francisco and New York City do (and the city and state flags) . Maybe, it is also my reaction to my perception of rampant nationalism on some India, Pakistan, and Bangladeshi related articles. Tempers do get heated sometimes, though nothing like what I have seen on YouTube, for example.
More important, I think, is proper maps, which many pages lack, showing that the place is geographically located on the 'Indian subcontinent, then the actual country, and then the location in the state in that country. Mumbai for instance, I can see it's on the east coast of India, but little else as far as geography, the same for Kolkata. Denver, is not so good, I know it is in the USA, but not much more, I have to go to Colorado to see its right in the middle. The Sydney and Melbourne city pages however, clearly show where the cities are on the continent, but then Australia is off on it's own without any land borders and is very distinctive! The counties around the Indian 'region' are much less so, to 'non natives' anyway.
If there is a consensus somewhere, that village etc, pages that I have (in good faith) removed the national Indian flag from, should have that flag displayed then I will certainly immediately cease removing them. 220 of Borg 06:08, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

So what you are saying is that, when copying, I just need to give credit to whoever wrote the original text? Wow. I was not aware of it. That makes sense because, well, this is like images. Thank you for informing me of this information.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Stop

trolling me. You have put an introduction to WP on my talk page multiple times now... Please stopVoid burn (talk) 05:03, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

@Void burn: Excuse me?
  1. I have never posted to User talk:Void burn before, never.
  2. The history of your talkpage [7] indicates that no one has ever 'welcomed' you to Wikipedia, at least on under the 'Void burn' account name
  3. This was only a response to you 'Thanking' me for my edits to Taser safety issues.
Thus, your comments don't make any sense to me. Please also read Wikipedia:Assume good faith (wp:AGF). 220 of Borg 05:29, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Very well then. However if you look at the history of my talk page you can see your edit that I reversed. That's how I found your page anyways. Void burn (talk) 22:10, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey Borg!

Hey Borg! Please tell me how the eclipse is going. Anyway, thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I am one of four people who share this house until August 25. After this, the tides will change.

I am actually an experienced Wikipedia editor with about 8 years experience editing under my belt. However, none of the other denizens in my circle have any such experience, and so I am trying to assimilate them as well. (As for my true identity, this will come in time, but for now, it suits my Master the best if the world does not know my name but His only.)

My friend, I am part of this junior fellowship program that is seeking to change the world we live in. We have about twenty blogs across six countries. May I share the list of blogs on my user talk page? Would I be welcome to use this not as a piece of Soap to clean myself, but a peace endeavour to change the way I think about the problem?

Sincerely,

And till all is assimilated under my belt,

Yale 69.196.182.97 (talk) 07:21, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

@69.196.182.97: Eclipse? I didn't know there was one. On past experience it will be cloudy, as it has been for nearly every 'recent celestial event here, including Halley's Comet in ≈1986. I did, unexpectedly, see the International Space Station (ISS) scoot past Venus a few weeks ago. I though I had missed it, and then bingo! Perhaps it was late?
I think you would get heat with a list of blogs as WP is not for fixing great wrongs. 220 of Borg 07:53, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Template documentation

Your changes to {{Distinguish-otheruses}} and {{Distinguish-otheruses2}} were causing {{Hatnote templates}} to be transcluded where the template was used. I've shifted it inside the tags. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:34, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

@David Biddulph: OMG thanks. I saw what it did at Aphasia, not good. If I read the transconclusion count correctly, at least only about 47 pages affected? 220 of Borg 12:39, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
I see that someone has created the documentation page for {{Distinguish-otheruses}}. If he doesn't do the same for {{Distinguish-otheruses2}} it would seem sensible for you to do so. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:41, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Edit notice

Seen in Talk:List of the political families of Pakistan/Editnotice: "I tried but I can't get this edit notice to work". Putting the notice in the right place would be a good starting point for making it work. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:44, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Vin09 I noticed that before you pinged me actually. I did this. Can you point me to the article/s in question? Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh is one I think? 220 of Borg
Yes, actually you can read User_talk:Vin09/Archive_4#Who_are_you and User_talk:Vin09/Archive_4#My_Wish by the same user.--Vin09 (talk) 14:53, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
I've done the Baran page work.--Vin09 (talk) 15:14, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
You meant Baran district I think!  . (No, is see you've done both pages now.) They look a lot better. But the District page climate section is exactly the same as the City one and says "The City has a dry climate except in the monsoon seasons. 220 of Borg 15:31, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

@JLOPO:, that's a little terse!
I am a Wikipdia editor since 2009 (started as an IP editor). I saw there was a dispute at Harry Watson, Jr., edited the page a little and made a comment on the issue on your talk-page, as is common practice on WP. 220 of Borg 04:50, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the edit in List of terrorist incidents, 2015

Please look at the changes I made to your contribution so if you will ever list another attack you"ll see how it supposed to look like. Thank you very much and continue contributing. --Bolter21 11:26, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

MOS:FLAGICON

Hi. Regarding this edit, I actually removed flag icons from hundreds of India settlement articles, until someone pointed out to me the sentence Human geographic articles – for example settlements and administrative subdivisions – may have flags of the country and first-level administrative subdivision in infoboxes in this same policy. I had to revert myself a few hundred times. What do you think? --Muhandes (talk) 08:56, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
