Bad Redirect edit

Umm, no idea why this redirected where it did. Obviously cancelled. -- Resolute 12:48, 12 January 2007

Assessment edit

We are adding assessment to this project banner. Please replace the current contents with the entire contents of User:Mus Musculus/sandbox. See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ice_Hockey#What_to_do for verification. Unprotection was denied and I was told to use this function. --Mus Musculus 19:23, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image shift edit

Everytalk page I go to with this banner, the rink image shifts into the text. Anyway to fix that? No other banner I have come accross has the same problem. Aboutmovies 21:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Adding "nested" option edit

{{editprotected}} Please change the very first line from:

{| class="messagebox standard-talk"

to:

{| class="{{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{nested|}}}}}|yes|collapsible collapsed messagebox
nested-talk|{{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{small|}}}}}|yes|messagebox small-talk|messagebox
standard-talk}}}}"
|-
{{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{nested|}}}}}|yes|
! colspan="2" style="text-align: center" {{!}} [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice
Hockey]]{{#if:{{{class|}}} |      (Rated
{{ucfirst:{{{class}}}}}-Class)|}}
}}

This will add the "nesting" option to the banner so it can be used with {{WikiProjectBannerShell}}. Please be sure to copy the code from this talk page rather than the wiki code because of the ampersands. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:54, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  Done. Cheers. --MZMcBride 04:08, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
The change was made incorrectly. Please see examples such as Talk:Jon Miller and Talk:Lloyd Pettit. I believe the problem is that there is a line break before nested-talk given the existence of the nested parameter; you may have copied one of SatyrTN's longer lines as two lines accidentally.
Note: I have also requested unprotection for this template. It is not a high-risk template. — Madman bum and angel (talkdesk) 13:15, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's almost right now, but the &s need to be changed to &s (so you have   ). Sorry; that problem was in the code posted by SatyrTN -- he didn't mean for it to be copied from the page source, even though that's the best way to ensure it doesn't get broken. — Madman bum and angel (talkdesk) 13:40, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Heh. Well, that works too. Thanks! — Madman bum and angel (talkdesk) 13:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
You may want to look at Talk:Babe Dye for an example of how that looks as compared to other WikiProject banners. I think you'll find you do want to add the space back. — Madman bum and angel (talkdesk) 13:43, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Done. As of my last change, it seems to tie in with the other banners on that page. Append "?action=purge" to the URL in your address bar if changes aren't updating. Thanks, Martinp23 13:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • We had a discussion in WikiProject Ice Hockey that the picture of an ice hockey rink was more recognizable then pucks or a skate. This image should not have been changed without further discussion. Flibirigit 18:34, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can you provide a link to the discussion? I looked before I made the change and again now and I don't see anything. Was this recent? If not, we can just treat this as WP:BRD, remembering that consensus can change. --After Midnight 0001 23:55, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I didn't know about the discusion... Maybe I was simply not part of the project. My reasons for changing it is that I thought the rink was rather vague, and I actually didn't know exactly what is was until I cliked on the image. Sorry for causing a mess... --Evilclown93(talk) 00:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • I am trying to find the discussion. I believe it happened when coach/player/arena stub tags were being renamed and images changed around. I don't think it was ever resolved. If it matters, we can post it to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey Flibirigit 06:10, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Featured List edit

Should FL be added to the list of available classes here and on the Project's assessment page? I believe it's on a par with FA, but for list articles rather than full-blown articles. --JD554 (talk) 08:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would say yes to FL = Featured list. I would also suggest FT = Featured topic and perhaps DYK = Did you know if some content was featured. Flibirigit (talk) 19:08, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure about the others, but FL = Featured list is certainly on the {{Grading scheme}} template. I've created a Category:FL-Class Ice Hockey articles and was going to edit the {{Ice hockey}} template, but this can only be done by an admin. Could someone with admin rights add the necessary lines to the code for FL status? --JD554 (talk) 08:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Error displaying the Show/Hide section edit

{{editprotected}} It seems that this edit caused the pull-down function (the Show/Hide link which displays list of related task forces and other notices) to disappear, also hiding its contents. This was also mentioned here on the project talk page (more than a day ago). I'm unsure about the syntax, but it seems there is a pipe sign missing now, according to the diff. Please help. --Bamsefar75 (talk) 23:06, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Would it be possible to either change the name of the category to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of ice hockey so that the template {{reqphoto}} can be used as an alternative but place the request in the same category and/or could the options in= and imagedetails= be added to this template. (See {{Engineering}} as example). There are a number of ice hockey requests for images/photos in other categories that could then be added to the subject specific one that has been created here.Traveler100 (talk) 09:00, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I suppose we could. I tend to strip out the reqphoto tag whenever I see it and fill out the parameters in the other project tags on the page because I often think the req photo is just a redundant tag. But thats just personal opinion. I don't really see how the engineering template would be similar. And technically the category name you have above implies the pictures are of ice hockey as opposed to being pictures needed in ice hockey articles. But thats probably me just being fussy. -Djsasso (talk) 14:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Moving from the many photo and image tags to the project template is my basic thinking too. Just do not want to loose some of the information in the requests such as location or exact subject matter. For example the of parameter in reqphoto of Talk:Canada Cup (ice hockey) or in the text of the reqimageother text of articles here Category:Wikipedia requested images-other like for Talk:1963 NHL Amateur Draft logo request.Traveler100 (talk) 21:13, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok I will take a look tomorrow to see if I can figure out how to code the of/in parameters for use in our template. I am sure no one will object to it being added and if they do it can easily be removed. -Djsasso (talk) 03:55, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
can I assume of and in will be the syntax, then I can edit a number of articles. Traveler100 (talk) 14:08, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just realized we never changed the name of the category that this template uses. I have done so now. Hopefully that will fix whatever it was you needed fixing. -DJSasso (talk) 19:28, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
thanks, and good timing as about to create a sub-category Wikipedia requested photographs of ice hockey personnel and move all relevant requests out of the general sportpeople category.--Traveler100 (talk) 20:29, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I am going to update the code on here to accept a bio= param so that the template will automatically put people into the ice hockey people subcat instead of just the main ice hockey cat that I just created. However I am about to leave town for a few days so I don't have time to figure out the coding to do that so I will do it when I get back. -DJSasso (talk) 00:28, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

After much trying to figure it out myself, I managed to get someone to take care of it for us. Its implemented now. -DJSasso (talk) 13:16, 27 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Norway Ice Hockey task force edit

Hi, could anyone with permission to edit this template add the necessary codes, so that the articles I have assessed to "Norway Ice Hockey task force" will show up in this category? I have mostly copied pages from the Swedish task force, so I guess those codes can be used in this template as well, just replace all instances of "Sweden" with "Norway"... =)

I also copy-pasted this bot user page from the Swedish one, which I afterwards realized are being updated by the bot itself! Do I need to have it deleted, or will it start overwriting the information once this template includes the new parameters?

If there is anything more I have to do, don't hesitate contacting me! =)

Thanks, in advance... lil2mas (talk) 01:39, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

You might want to ask on WP:HOCKEY if they want to actually make another task force. Usually we don't create a task force unless we have 5 users that are actively going to edit in it. We do this becaue we often have single editors all gung ho about creating one and it almost instantly becomes inactive. All you have to do is look at some of our other ones for examples of this. -DJSasso (talk) 22:56, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh I see you have already created the pages etc for it. I would see if you can get other editors to join your task force before I make a change to the code here. -DJSasso (talk)

Template:Ice hockeyTemplate:WikiProject Ice hockey — To standardize. –xenotalk 12:55, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I would actually prefer that we don't move it. I find that when you add in WikiProject to these tags it makes them unwieldy and less people then actually seem to put the tag on articles. An example of this would be the Wikiproject Biography tag. I would think if the tag were just Biography it would get used alot more. That being said if people think its better I am flexible as long as the shortcut remains to use the old tag. -DJSasso (talk) 12:58, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
The reason is so that bots can recognize which templates on the page are banners and which are not. "Ice hockey" provides no clue whatsoever, not even a "WP" or "project" thrown in there for good measure. And yes, {{ice hockey}} would no doubt remain as redirect to still be used by those familiar with it. –xenotalk 13:01, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Would bots not be able to tell its a project template by being in Category:WikiProject banners with quality assessment? -DJSasso (talk) 13:07, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I suppose if it was a clever bot, with a cleverer operator. That's not always the case. Having to load that list is also a drain on resources. The vast majority of banners take the standard form so consistency is also a factor to consider. –xenotalk 14:27, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've no issue with such a move, but I am curious as to the impetus. Why is it important that bots be able to recognize which templates are banners? Resolute 14:20, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
There are a number of reasons: some bots may be adding banner shells; other bots may be making sure that all project banners are together; and important banners (such as WPBiography with living=yes, talkheader, skiptotoc) are at the top. –xenotalk 14:22, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. Have bots not been applying banner shells for some time already? I've yet to see an issue with folding this template into such a shell. That said, it makes no practical difference and if it makes your bot's job easier, I'd say go for it. Resolute 15:25, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
For my bot, it is really only an issue if there is no "class=" in the template (such as with many of these) as it is designed to look for that. Not sure about other bots. I still think for consistency, {{WikiProject Ice hockey}} is desirable. Of course, I have a workaround (I add the class=) but to do this on a template-by-template basis is a bit of a pain. –xenotalk 16:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per Xeno - to be consistent with other WikiProject banners. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 19:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Comment- having tried to co-ordinate a cross-project task, of generating lists of unreferenced BLPs, and being told by the Bot coder that I needed to use the actual template name, not a redirect, the WikiProject template naming system is a mess. Look at the range of names that are in use. The sooner we get all the projects aligned, the sooner maintenance tasks can be setup automatically, and not with a lot of effort.The-Pope (talk) 16:18, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. So if we move the template, would leaving the redirect behind break the bot task to identify these unsourced BLPs? If so, we may have to have a bot update the banner to the new name as a part of a name change. Resolute 20:28, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Most bots follow redirects so it shouldn't be a problem I would think. -DJSasso (talk) 22:28, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Request for photographs and images edit

To help address the many requests for photographs People-photo-bot has moved article talk pages from Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of people and Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of sportspeople to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of ice hockey personnel if it contains the templates {{ice hockey}}, {{WikiProject Ice Hockey}}. Members of this project are invited to address the requests for images listed. Please note that some articles may now have an appropriate photograph and that the need-photo flag has simply not been removed, this can also be checked using the Image Existence Checker link on the category page. If a page has been incorrectly moved please inform me on my talk page.--Traveler100 (talk) 19:09, 20 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The importance attribute edit

Should we create the corresponding categories for the importance levels? Or shall we wait until feedback regarding this new test has come? HeyMid (contributions) 22:23, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

No, do not create the categories. The wikiproject is split on if we will go forward with this. I was only adding it so that some things could be tested. No point in creating categories which might end up getting deleted again. -DJSasso (talk) 22:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Anaheim Ducks edit

Can someone please add the new Anaheim Ducks Taskforce to the template? Thank You. :) --CASportsFan (talk) 07:08, 19 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Here is the image I created for the template:
Have you checked with the ice hockey project first to make sure you have enough active editors interested in creating a new task force? Generally we don't add a new one until we see that there are a number of active people interested in it and actively working on articles in that task forces scope, in general 5 people is usually mentioned. Most of our task forces get created and then fall inactive fast so we haven't been adding new task forces lately, most discussion takes place on the ice hockey project directly, instead of breaking off into task forces. -DJSasso (talk) 14:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I wanted to get everything started, then I would go out and find people! I didn't realize that they like to do it the other way around . . . --CASportsFan (talk) 09:05, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's just a case of this happening a number of times, and nothing ever coming of it. The hockey project just tends to do everyone on the main project page instead of fracturing off. :) I fully support the idea if you can find some people. -DJSasso (talk) 11:43, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Got 3 (including myself), got to get at least 2 more! Haha :) --CASportsFan (talk) 07:22, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Photo image needs to be replaced edit

File:Camera bw.png, a file uploaded at Commons, has been deleted as a copyright violation; this means that the image shown in the "needs-photo" parameter is a red link with the number of pixels. In other words, this means that the image needs to be replaced by another. I think that File:Camera-photo.svg would work well as a replacement. Any thoughts? HeyMid (contribs) 20:21, 10 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thanks for the notice. Resolute 22:22, 10 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Change photo requests to image requests edit

As part of a nearly-completed shift to distinguish requests for photos from requests for images in general, it is requested that this template be modified to place talk pages in "Wikipedia requested images of..." categories, rather than the old "Wikipedia requested photographs of..." categories. As such, please supplement all references to "photo(s) of..." and "photograph(s) of..." with "image(s) of..." in both the template and its documentation, while maintaining backwards compatibility for the old "photo" parameters. In particular, change "photograph or picture" to simply "image". Note that the "Wikipedia requested images of..." categories have already been created. Thank you! — s w p b T 15:30, 7 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am tempted to leave it as is. There are very few cases on hockey articles where an image would not be a photo. -DJSasso (talk) 19:32, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
For this category, that may be true, but the "image-requested" parameter should still be supported, which it's currently not. — s w p b T 14:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Mock-up in sandbox. — s w p b T 14:41, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Mock-up doesn't take into account we are looking for photos and would be placing all the requests in the wrong place. -DJSasso (talk) 14:50, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've changed the mock-up so that photo requests go to the photo category. — s w p b T 14:52, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
That is much better. I would suggest that for all of them. For the future ability to choose either. -DJSasso (talk) 15:01, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
That's not a terrible idea, and I won't get in the way of you changing other mock-ups (and non-protected templates) accordingly, but I probably won't be doing much of that work myself. I've put a tremendous effort into this transition already, and real-world responsibilities are calling. Anyway, if it's not done now, it can always be done later. I think in most cases (like, say, comics), it's not particularly pressing; certainly not as pressing as the primary effect of the edit requests. — s w p b T 16:29, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not done Each task force has only one parent project. Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's sport/Ice hockey task force is a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's sport, not Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey, and therefore any articles within its scope should be added via Template:WikiProject Women's sport, not Template:WikiProject Ice Hockey * Pppery * it has begun... 02:13, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Pppery: Many task forces are tagged onto multiple Wikiproject banners, such as the US Film task force, or the US Military task force, the Russian military task force, the Japanese film task force. I don't see how this one is any different. This task force already carries WPIceHockey on its own talk page, signifying it as part of ice hockey. -- 64.229.90.53 (talk) 16:08, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
That still seems fundamentally illogical to me, but I'll let another template editor handle this. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:28, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
An article you are going to add this to presumably has the WikiProject Women's sport already tagged? In that case, why not tag the task force using that banner? Tagging with both seems redundant. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:42, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
{{not done}}. Until editor IP64+ can show where and why such redundancy is useful, then the Women's sport WP banner will suffice. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 23:07, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Done. Checked into this more deeply and found a lot of this kind of multiple usage of task forces/work groups on related project banners, so reconsidered and have added the women's ice hockey task force to this project's talk page banner. Category revert edit

To editor UnitedStatesian: the reason I didn't use that category name is because there is no Category:Women's ice hockey articles. You gonna create it? P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 17:43, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

The parent category is Category:Women's ice hockey task force articles. Using the TF_9_ASSESSMENT_CAT = parameter sorts all of the bannered talkpages correctly within that cat's subcats. UnitedStatesian (talk) 18:06, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
To editor UnitedStatesian: I don't understand. You seem to be saying that using a non-existing category in the |TF_9_ASSESSMENT_CAT= parameter is the right thing to do? It sounds as if you're using a workaround for something that needs to be fixed. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 21:12, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's no workaround; the |TF_9_ASSESSMENT_CAT= parameter only drives the naming of the base level assessment categories, such as Category:Start-Class Women's ice hockey articles; the |TF_9_MAIN_CAT parameter is what drives the naming of the top level category. The WP Banner meta template was coded intentionally to use two different parameters, so WikiProjects need not slavishly follow the same naming conventions for each. (and in fact the titles of nearly all top-level project categories reference the WikiProject (such as Category:WikiProject Romania articles, not Category:Romania articles) or task force (such as the current case)). UnitedStatesian (talk) 21:38, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
"no workaround", hmm. Sorry, I must be really dense, because nothing you have said so far has made me understand why any WikiProject should have a parameter with an argument that is a red-linked, unavailable and non-existing page. Still makes no sense to me. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 01:50, 4 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
The |TF_9_ASSESSMENT_CAT= parameter isn't a category name. It's used by the subtemplates of {{WPBannerMeta}} - ultimately {{WPBannerMeta/qualityscale}} - to construct categories named like Category:FA-Class assessment-cat, Category:Unassessed assessment-cat etc., where assessment-cat is the value passed in through |TF_9_ASSESSMENT_CAT=. So if we have |TF_9_ASSESSMENT_CAT=Ice Hockey articles we would get Category:FA-Class Ice Hockey articles, Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles etc. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:36, 4 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Redrose64: stated more clearly than I could. UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:58, 4 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agreed! Thank you Redrose64 and UnitedStatesian for these explanations that together give me a crystal clear understanding of this. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 12:25, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Partly done I've created the page using the default boilerplate for a /testcases page, which is different than the proposed content. If you want to edit if further, then feel free. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:11, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
