Biographical information needed

There is a lot on his work, but not basic biographical facts. It also sounds like there might be substantive information on the issue of his sexual orientation, since that has come up in his work. -- Beland 04:48, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. It's clear from much of his work that Gerrold, if not himself Gay, has keen insight into and interest in the Gay subculture in the United States (read "In The Quake Zone" for one excellent example. Few authors who are not gay would probably bother advocating for GBLT characters and themes as he does. BUT... As far as I'm aware, he has never publicly come out, and if he hasn't, bald statements that he is gay should be avoided. Actually, he did come out explicitly and publicly with an author's note at the end of the 2003 edition of The Man Who Folded Himself, citing attacks on gay adoption (he has an adopted son) as his motivation for doing so. He says he did not want to come out publicly because he saw it as a "political act" and was already out to friends, family, and colleagues. -- Foofy (talk) 22:36, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Gerrold was born in January of 1944. Gerrold was known to be gay to friends and family as early as 1973. Removed marketing details

In section "The War Against the Chtorr", I removed the following publication details useable only as marketing or advertising:

The 5th book is available for preorder at a major online seller. The date was given as July 2011, however the book was not released on that date and the option to preorder removed and replaced with an option to be notified when the book is released. The revised release date was moved to 2014 as well.

Voice credits for Star Trek Animated Series

I am deleting the claim that Gerrold provided the voice for Korax in "More Tribbles, More Troubles". It is incorrect. In a 2011 interview on startrek.com, Gerrold specifically denies this, stating that James Doohan voiced Korax. Gerrold is sometimes credited with other voice roles on ST:TAS, but he specifically states that "Em/3/Green was the only one I ever did."

Birth Name

In other sources (AGAIN, DANGEROUS VISIONS edited by Harlan Ellison and HELTER SKELTER! by Vincent Bugliosi), Gerrold's birth name is given as Jerrold David Friedman not David Jerrold Friedman (as this article states). Which is it? Sir Rhosis (talk) 16:51, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Pen name

Is "David Gerrold" a pen name, or did the author change to this name legally? His (now) adult son uses the surname "Friedman." The subject's Wikidata item has no sources for any of his names. -- Deborahjay (talk) 08:25, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

• Yes, his birth name was Jerrold David Friedman. It is cited several times in the article. I don't think he ever legally changed it. Sir Rhosis (talk) 08:41, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
  • However, the US Library of Congress states Friedman, David Jerrold. (In my country, the national library is considered authoritative.) In any event, the Wikidata item is lacking sources for the properties "Given name" and "Family name" giving only "David" and "Gerrold" respectively. Furthermore, the property "Pseudonym generally requires a documented "start time" although providing the above LOC reference URL made it acceptable. This content might be present in sources such as interviews with the subject that could be extracted and written as citations, ideally in Wikidata and subsequently in the various language versions. -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:15, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
