Prime ampelography reference

Hi guys - long time no edit etc etc. My wiki-time remains limited but I thought it was worth mentioning that I now have a copy of the Jancis/Harding/Vouillamoz Wine Grapes book if anyone needs some specific help with referencing grape articles - it's pretty much the definitive modern (post-DNA-sequencing) ampelography. At present I only really have the time to do targeted edits, in the first instance I suggest only Top/High importance grapes, articles that are close to getting to GA, and parentage for the varieties that are important genetically if not vinously - probably best if you give me a shout direct on my user Talk page as the most immediate way of getting in touch. Longer term it would be great to use it to ensure that there was an article on all 1368 grapes listed, but that's a long-term fantasy given my time right now. The typical format for a variety includes:

  • Principal Synonyms
  • Varieties commonly mistaken for X
  • Origins & Parentage
  • Other Hypotheses
  • Viticultural Characteristics
  • Where It's Grown and What Its Wine Tastes Like

The latter is the kind of thing that can be hard to reference even if it's "obvious" - as an example there's 6 pages for Cabernet just on location/taste. I also have the Jancis The Oxford Companion to Wine which is also a useful reference.FlagSteward (talk) 02:26, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hey Flag, good to see you again. As you may have garner, things are pretty quiet these days so it may be a task to try to get anything coordinated going. I also have Jancis' Wine Grape book (as Tomas does as well, if I recall) and I do agree that updating our grape articles with the most current and reliable source on origins and naming should probably be a priority. I've done a little work, here and there, like moving the Charbono/Bonarda article over to Douce noir and updating it, sorting out Bombino nero from Bombino bianco, etc. Mostly I've been doing "smaller projects" that I can get done in a couple hours verses larger page rewrites and article improvements since my time here has been greatly reduced. I still try to keep an eye on this page and would be willing to try to help where I can if you are feeling particularly ambitious about tackling something. AgneCheese/Wine 04:41, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I do have the book, but I don't do a lot of editing. :-) Tomas e (talk) 00:36, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Infobox help needed for Italian wines

Help from someone knowledgeable about Italian wines has been requested at the top of Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 February 18#Template:Infobox Italian wine. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:04, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

Potential COI editor at Heitz Wine Cellars

We may just need to keep an eye on this page and on the edits of the anon IP who seemed personally offended at some slightly negative PR for Heitz regarding the TCA problem they had a few years back. This info is reliable sourced and was added by Murgh, a well regarded editor with no POV bias, years ago. I restored the anon's deletion with one minor factual change that the anon was correct in pointing out. But, again, this may be something we need to keep an eye on for any future edits. Hello

Hi, is anyone active on the Wiki Wine project? I used to be until a few years ago, and I'm hoping to rekindle my enthusiasm :) --BodegasAmbite (talk) 16:45, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Good to see you back BA! There are a few of us still poking around though we're not as coordinated as we were in the past. However, it's summer in the northern hemisphere and I can see some uptick in activity. AgneCheese/Wine 18:10, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi Agne, nice to hook up with you again, after all this time. I'll see what I can do! I seem to have forgotten everything - it's taken me all morning just to do a tiny stub!!! Granada (wine) --BodegasAmbite (talk) 11:02, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
I am willing to be occasionally active in this project.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 11:34, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm still around, although I've edited more on the Swedish version in recent times. I check in here once in a while to see if there's any discussion ongoing. While I don't think I'm coming back to my old "peak" level of activity (when I didn't do any blogging) in the near future, I might contribute now and then. Tomas e (talk) 12:17, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Mustang wine

Hello. I would greatly appreciate it if some of you could expand this page with more referenced info and/or with a picture of the wine. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 13:02, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Zigzig20s, Congrats on th nice article! It already has a lot more references than most wine articles of that size and quality!!! I don't think that I personally could improve it. Cheers, --BodegasAmbite (talk) 14:29, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet for Wikiproject Wine at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Wine photos

I think my ego and wine snob cred has been bruised as I've been accused by another editor of advertizing for things like Beringer White Merlot (!!!) on the Merlot article. Yes, seriously. I'm apparently shilling for sickly sweet plonk :P But really, I do think this can be an opportunity to talk about wine photo illustrations and I opened a conversation on the Merlot talk page.
I think we all know how difficult it is to find free-use photos and with Flickr's change a few year back to make more restrictive CC licenses the default it has become even harder sometimes. Since I go to many trade tastings every month I've been taking advantage of the opportunity to take pictures of many different wines that can be used as illustration. (And for those who may not know, trade tastings are where winemakers, retailers, distributors, wine educators, journalists and sommeliers go to taste a multitude of wines from a multitude of different wineries). I receive no compensation or recognition and I take the pictures pretty indiscriminately, doesn't matter who the winery is or what I think of the wine, just if it serves some value as an illustration.
So while the "advertizement" charge is baseless (and, my tongue in cheek joking about the Beringer White Merlot comment aside, somewhat offensive), there is still room for credible discussion, though, about the value of such wine photos. I lay out on the Merlot talk page some of the benefits I feel of having pictures of the wine in the glass with a bottle to illustrate what it is and where it is from but more opinions are welcome. Possible COI/self-promotion

Hi, I know nothing about wine, but there is some curious editing happening at Jeannie Cho Lee and I was hoping to draw some eyes from the WikiProject over to the article. I made a reversion last night because some of the content the single-purpose account added came off as a little fluffy ("award-winning" "master of wine"). These edits added a ton of information, much of which was unsourced, but it was mostly removed, and the net result of all their editing was just some minor rewording. I suspect conflict of interest as the user's name is "Apalate", and the subject's first book was "Asian Palate". In 2010 the article was numerously edited by another SPA, Asian Palate, who then opened a different account, since their account had been blocked for being promotional. They became Aphk (presumably Asian Palate Hong Kong). The article was also admittedly edited by a friend of hers Winestudent725. Anyhow, if someone more learned could please add the article to their watchlist, it would be appreciated as there seems to be some self-promotion happening and potential for sockpuppetry. Thanks. Wine merchant

Wine merchant and Vintner both redirect to Winemaker. This does not seem appropriate. How should it be resolved? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:08, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Someone should create the article Wine merchant and make Vintner into a disambiguation page explaining that it can either refer to a wine merchant (in traditional UK usage) or a winemaker (in modern US usage). Tomas e (talk) 14:07, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal - Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine

Hello, I would like to seperate "Südtirol wine" from the page "Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine and update the article. Like you maybe know South Tyrol is a seperate autonomous region and there is a special wine consortium, called Consortium of Alto Adige Wine. The wines from Alto Adige and Trentino differ and should not be put together in only one article. How can I seperate the page and change the title? So I would like to cancel the redirection from South Tyrol wine as well. Everyone agree?--Fanny Dürfeldt (talk) 14:02, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

That's easy to do once you have a confirmed account, which requires 4 days and 10 edits. Then you can move and rename articles, and create new articles.
I am happy to do this for you, but I am not clear on what you are proposing in terms of article titles.
Do you propose two separate articles called Trentino-Alto Adige and Südtirol wine? They already exist as redirects, and can simply be replaced with content. Looking at the original article, I am not sure how the content would be split. Try creating separate sections in the article and then we can discuss forking out the content.
As for cancelling the redirect South Tyrol wine, where else would you want it to redirect? There is no valid reason to delete the redirect because it's a reasonable search term, but if it should redirect to a different article, what is it? ~Amatulić (talk) 16:22, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
I would like to create an article about South Tyrolean wine, the wine zones, the coltivation and the wines. For this I propose to split the existing article Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine into 2 seperate articles Trentino wine and Südtirol wine. Done this, South Tyrol wine should redirect to Südtirol wine. Also Alto Adige (wine) and Alto Adige (wine region) should redirect to Südtirol wine. Ok, thank you very much for your input, I will start to edit the existing article with more information about South Tyrolean wine and create 2 seperate sections. --Fanny Dürfeldt (talk) 12:28, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I prefer that the article would be located at South Tyrol wine rather than Südtirol wine? The general article about the province is called South Tyrol rather than Südtirol. For regional wine articles we usually use the English name form, if there is one, for example Burgundy wine. Tomas e (talk) 14:00, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
That's a good point. For the same reason, we have an article on Germany and not Deustschland, which is what Germans call their country. We use English titles on the English Wikipedia if such a title exists. Currently Südtirol wine is a redirect, so it is trivial to point it at South Tyrol wine. I have just done so for the redirects Südtirol wine, Südtirol (wine), and Alto Adige (wine region). ~Amatulić (talk) 14:36, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Yeas that sounds good. I now worked on the article Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine. I created 2 separate sections for South Tyrol and Trentino in the Text and add further explanation to both sections. Could you now please divide the article Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol wine into South Tyrol wine and Trentino wine with the right redirects? I created a short Infobox for South Tyrol wine, but the infobox isn‘t visible. What is the error in the code? Thank you very much for your help. --Fanny Dürfeldt (talk) 07:10, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
Infoboxes don't appear on redirect pages, although in this case it appears you didn't save your changes; the redirects don't show any such edits by you.
Still a bit of work to do. I am not familiar enough with the subject to trust myself to repair everything properly. ~Amatulić (talk) 15:41, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Everything looks fine now! You couldn‘t fix the infobox in South Tyrol wine? Who could help me with that? German and Italian Wikipedia wine articles usually are using infoboxes, which is quite a nice summary of the most important information. Would be nice to have one. I elaborated on the green wine project infobox for wine and changed something in the code. The infobox in the preview article worked perfectly, but the saved version didn‘t worked out.--Fanny Dürfeldt (talk) 10:21, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

I didn't fix any infobox because I didn't see any infobox to fix. It is possible thatyou included one but didn't save your edit. Just go to Template:Infobox wine region, paste it into the top of the article, and fill it in as well as you can. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:46, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

Expert attention

This is a notice about Category:Wine articles needing expert attention, which might be of interest to your WikiProject. It will take a while before the category is populated. Iceblock (talk) 05:14, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Would it be possible to configure User:AAlertBot to update Wikipedia:WikiProject Wine/Article alerts when something appears in this category? ~Amatulić (talk) 15:46, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
There have definitely been wine-related articles with the "needing expert attention" template in the past, but perhaps via a general template rather than this one. Tomas e (talk) 21:58, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
There is a general template, {{expert-subject}}, which one can add with the parameter "wine". I believe that adding this tag with the proper parameter will cause the page to appear in Category:Wine articles needing expert attention (@Iceblock: correct me if I'm wrong).
I have made a suggestion at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts/Feature requests to add the "expert needed" tag to the ones AAlertBot currently monitors. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:13, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the template added is {{expert-subject}} with the parameter "wine", as in Franzia. Iceblock (talk) 19:32, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
@Iceblock: I see the template in Franzia, but I don't see the article appearing in Category:Wine articles needing expert attention as a consequence of that template. Shouldn't it? ~Amatulić (talk) 22:14, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

The template was added to the article before the category was created. The template is designed only to categorize an article if the category exists. In this way, there will be no redlinked categories at the bottom of the article. When I later created the category, it will take time before the article is listed in the category. This has to do with technical reasons, and I cannot say exactly why. Try asking at WP:VPT if you want to know. It might be, but I'm not sure, that the computing power is more evenly distributed, and that the servers update category pages when they "have time to it", between other editing tasks. Making a null edit (click Edit and save without changes) to the article might update the category with that specific article. (Changing the article might also work.) When you click "What links here" on the category, the members might be listed, but not always. There is some information on Wikipedia:FAQ/Categories#Why might a category list not be up to date.3F and this page is linked from empty category pages in the box that says that the category is empty (learn more). New Mexico wineries

I was surprised to find not one single article on any of the many award-winning wineries in New Mexico. (Though there were a couple deleted ones, no surprise there...)

So, I've created List of wineries in New Mexico along with articles on seven notable wineries:

I'm not familiar with the project standards, so these probably need some work, infoboxes, etc. Feel free to help out. Skyerise (talk) 22:43, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Langton's Classification

Looking at developing a NavBox for the Langton's classification. In my view, each of the wines listed on the classification could be considered notable and as a result I initially looked at listing all the various wines under their particular classification, however this became quite long. My second attempt was to list just the wineries (with sub links where relevant), it does result in some duplicates however. What does everyone think? Screech1616 (talk) 13:21, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

In this case, as in the case of most other New World wines/wineries, my opinion is that there should usually be one entry for the producer covering all of their wines. Notable wines might get a section of their own within that article. I think it is much more useful for the reader to have all Henschke's or Grosset's wines, or at least the famous ones, described within one article. Tomas e (talk) 21:27, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't agree, the listing is of Wines, not Wineries, strange to have e.g. Henschke three times without any more text as it is now. Or do you suggest to group everything together in a A-Z list and then in some way list what classification each winery's wines have?? I can't visualise that! --Stefan-S talk 01:13, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

The Rocks AVA

Hi, is this project active? I just reverted some edits to The Rocks AVA by a COI editor. AVAs are not my long suit, so I'm not sure if the edits were legit or not. It looks like marketing vs. official designation to me. Can someone look them over? Feel free to revert my reversion. Valfontis (talk) 00:28, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Yes, this project is correctly classified as semi-active. AVAs is not really my side of the Atlantic, but it seems to me that if the AVA is actually called "The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater", the article should probably be moved to the slightly cumbersome name "The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVA". Roussea

Hello, Agne/Wine made a redirect for Roussea to the grape variety Trebbiano. Roussea however is at least also a genus of plants. It strikes me that the Trebbiano article does not list Roussea as one of the synonyms, which seems strange because it does list a great many other synonyms. The question is what to do with the redirect. I prefer to "have" it for the plant genus and add a hatnote for the grape synonym. Since Agne27 does not seem to be active, I now revert to the talk page of the Wine project. Please tell me how you think I could best deal with the redirect. Kind regards, Dwergenpaartje (talk) 16:45, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

A late reply, Roussea is indeed a synonym among many for Trebbiano Toscano, as listed in VIVC, a source I know Agne27 often has used. A hatnote would be good. Tomas e (talk) 14:13, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Greetings WikiProject Food and drink/Wines task force/Archive 14 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Captialisation (again... I know... I'm sorry)

As a long-time WP contributor but relatively new to wine articles, I'd like to offer something of an opinion about capitalisation of grape varieties, or at least a justification about why I just can't quite bring myself to write "Pinot noir" or "Sauvignon blanc" in articles about wine. Using lower-case descriptors (e.g. the blanc in Sauvignon blanc) is just not borne out in any of the literature, popular or otherwise, that I have been reading or citing. It might be correct for a viticulturalist to write Sauvignon blanc to another viticulturist, in the same way that a chemist might write "C₂H₅OH" (or indeed "CH₃CH₂OH") to another chemist when they mean "alcohol", but firstly Wikipedia is not primarily aimed at viticulturists, and secondly, I imagine most viticulturists wouldn't be looking up much on wine on Wikipedia anyway, for the same reason: Wikipedia is for a general audience. A general audience that, if they've read anything about wine anywhere else, will have almost exclusively seen the fully capitalised grape variety names, as the weight of evidence shows. As of 2008 (alas, as far as it goes) a Google Ngram shows that Sauvignon Blanc outweighs the uncapitalised sauvignon blanc by nearly nine to one, and indeed the WP preferred Sauvignon blanc is even less prevalent, by another factor of four. More importantly though, the Ngram also shows that full capitalisation really caught on in the 1980s and hasn't looked back since, while the other option remained static. Ngrams for other grape varieties show similar (and constistently similar) results. Certainly in my experience so far, all the wine writers, magazines, journals and references I've been reading fully capitalise the grape variety as a proper noun. I think it's only fair that we can surely, by now, just accept that the world has moved on (certainly, the bits of the world that write about wine) and that Wikipedia should just follow suit. After all, nobody is arguing that we should decapitalise apple varieties such as the red Delicious. Jon (talk) 12:05, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

This article might be of interest, although it's rather old and prescriptivist. Formal cultivar names have each word capitalized (with some exceptions, e.g. prepositions). Unfortunately, grape varieties generally do not have established formal cultivar names. VIVC would be a good source for grape variety names, but they have every letter in the name capitalized. I wouldn't object to more capitalization. Plantdrew (talk) 17:50, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
That article expresses one view, and the rules it offers are bizzare, leading to all manner of inconsistencies in capitalization. It's pretty simple, really. Do we treat grape names as proper names or as adjectives? If a proper name, we refer to Zinfandel grapes. If an adjective, merely a descriptor of a noun, we'd refer to zinfandel grapes or zinfandel wine. But I would argue that our usage refers to the names as proper nouns, because we can refer to "Zinfandel" by itself in the context of grape or wine. So that's what we do on Wikipedia. The names of grapes are proper nouns. The "blanc" in Sauvignon Blanc is not merely an adjective describing the color of the Sauvignon grape or wine, but it's part of the name. A grape or wine isn't called simply Pinot except in casual conversation, the name is Pinot Noir or Pinot Gris or Pino Blanc (if such a thing exists). ~Anachronist (talk) 21:32, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   08:00, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Bhutan wine

Could editors with an interest in the subject of Bhutan wine please assess the clean-up edits I've made to this article, and read the annotations I have moved from it onto its Talk page? The veracity of the page's assertions has obviously been questioned in the past, but I am unqualified to make a fair assessment. In essence: should this article be AFD-ed, or is the source OK as a WP:RS? Many thanks. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:59, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

I think it's enough for a stub. The disclaimers you removed were longer than the body of the article. ~Anachronist (talk) 01:49, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Meunier

Meunier is no longer called "Pinot Meunier" as the Pinot varieties and Meunier have recently been shown to be of a different origin/genotypes. This should be reflected by the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmariboe (talkcontribs) 16:48, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for a late response, but which recent research are you referring to, in order to support that claim? The entry for Pinot Meunier in Wine Grapes (the "grape bible") is Pinot Meunier and so is its prime name in the Vitis International Variety Catalogue (I just checked). Champagne organizations often use "Meunier", to avoid confusion, or to reserve the Pinot name for ditto Noir, but that's more a marketing thing than a reliable source for this variety's proper name. Candida blankii

Our favorite yeast? Probably not. But no pretense of compliance with WP:Before. 7&6=thirteen () 18:50, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Oh, so we had a newsletter that was active for about a year in 2007-08. I had forgotten, but once I saw it I could immediately guess who did the most of the writing. Those who were active in those days will know. :-) Tomas e (talk) 16:30, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

New bot to remove completed infobox requests

Hello! I have recently created a bot to remove completed infobox requests and am sending this message to WikiProject Wine since the project currently has a backlogged infobox request category. Details about the task can be found at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PearBOT 2, but in short it removes all infobox requests from articles with an infobox, once a week. To sign up, reply with {{ping|Trialpears}} and tell me if any special considerations are required for the Wikiproject. For example: if only a specific infobox should be detected, such as {{infobox journal}} for WikiProject Academic Journals; or if an irregularly named infobox such as {{starbox begin}} should be detected. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Black Spanish (grape)

The above article needs work from someone who knows about wine. It's terrible at the moment. --- Possibly 02:23, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Savoy wine

Another case that needs help, especially the second paragraph and the list of AOCs. Mangoe (talk) 19:14, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Sokol Blosser Winery

Does anybody want to look over the edits by the founder? It's a notable Oregon winery. Valfontis (talk) 20:45, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Inactive?

@UnitedStatesian: Inactive? If so, please also update Template:WikiProject Wine. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 09:02, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

@Finnusertop: thanks for reaching out, and I have done so just now. My normal practice is to give a full year between when I tag the project and when I edit the template, but I think it has been long enough in this case. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
