Article structureEdit
Article titlingEdit
- Migrated to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (stations).
LeadEdit
The lead paragraph includes the name of the station as it appears on the system map, and not a short-hand name, but those can and should be mentioned later. It also mentions the system, the city or area, and the line(s) the station lies on, and, if notable, the location on the line(s). It is preferred that the first sentence of the lead begins along the lines of, for example, "Fremont station is..." or "Fremont [railway/metro/light rail/tram] station is..." (depending on the naming convention of the article, i.e. whether the article's title has "railway"/"metro"/"light rail"/"tram" in it).
Generally, infoboxes are used along with the lead. The most common infobox is {{Infobox station}}.
Article bodyEdit
The next information should be the history of the station, including the date service began. Notable historic events specific to that rail station should go here. This should be followed by the area served by the station and major establishments and attractions near it. A list of lesser but still notable places can be supplied later.
A table should exist, displaying the line(s) and the next stations on that line, with a link to the appropriate line. {{Adjacent stations}} should be used, which can be placed either in the infobox, under a separate section titled "Services", or at the bottom at the page. The western or northern or counter-clockwise station should go on the left. If there is a western or eastern link, that should take precedence (as seen in the example below), since it would make poor sense to have the eastern link on the left.
Preceding station | Washington Metro | Following station | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Farragut North toward Shady Grove
|
Red Line | Terminus | ||
McPherson Square toward Franconia–Springfield
|
Blue Line | Federal Triangle toward Largo Town Center
| ||
McPherson Square toward Vienna
|
Orange Line | Federal Triangle toward New Carrollton
| ||
McPherson Square toward Wiehle–Reston East
|
Silver Line | Federal Triangle toward Largo Town Center
