Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Negros Occidental may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to The Heart Wants What It Wants, without providing a source and without establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Thank you. 123.136.112.252 (talk) 04:42, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello.

Per your request, I am resuming the conversation we are having here. I like your description of Akihiro. --Ches (talk) (contribs) 11:39, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Chesnaught555 - OK then. Akihiro Kulas Silang-Tatsumaki, or simply Aki Tatsumaki is the Gray Ninja and Elemental Master of Wind. He is born on March 20, 1997 to a Filipina mother named Elina Silang and a Japanese general named Akihito Tatsumaki. His Filipino ethnicity is mainly Ilocano (from Agoo, La Union), with Pangasinense roots from the town of Mangaldan and Dagupan City in Pangasinan and Kapampangan roots from Mabalacat City and the town of Magalang in Pampanga, as well as Visayan roots from Bago City and Guihulngan City (Negrense) and Davao City (Davaoeño). He was once an assassin but when he joined the Ninja, his violent image slowly toned down, but his dark, vengeful and psychotic personality never diminished.
Interesting indeed. --Ches (talk) (contribs) 13:14, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Salamat! (Thank you!) Chesnaught555, plus I have lots of OCs too, and one of them is Singer (name: Iano Romano), who is an X-Men member. Talk only if you have enough energy.-- Aki (contributions) April 06 2016, 09:26 P.M. (PST)

I'm currently incredibly busy. I am revising for several exams (my GCSEs), and as a result I'm cutting down significantly on the amount of time I spend here. I was initially planning to go "cold turkey", but then decided to do what I can in my spare time. --Ches (talk) (contribs) 18:35, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I'm the same. I have reviewed this day and now I am preparing for my ALS exam on next Saturday (April 16). But after that, I can do whatever I want. Thanks for notifying me! ;-) --Aki (contributions) April 09, 2016, 04:14 P.M. (PST)
Indeed - I should resume my normal activity levels by mid-June or July myself. --Ches (talk) (contribs) 13:22, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Explaining

I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 15:13, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

2015 PH census

Thanks Nin-5H for updating Philippine articles with the 2015 census data. Please use Wikidata to update the info, see Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#PSA has finally released the 2015 census report. Also, when updating the info, make sure that you update or add the new reference for the 2015 census data (easiest if you use {{PH census}} template). Examples of linking to Wikidata and adding the 2015 census reference are this edit or this one. If you have any questions, let me know by leaving a message on my talk page. Thanks again. -- P 1 9 9   13:32, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

P 1 9 9 - Thank you for noticing my edits regarding to the 2015 census of my country. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Gyeonggi dialect

Kaesong, Kaepung County, and Changpung County are also parts of the Gyeonggi dialect area because they were parts of Gyeonggi Province until the Korean War. --117.53.77.84 (talk) 05:45, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello! Please do not change the infobox colour to Altaic. The Altaic hypothesis has been widely discredited. --Vindication (talk) 12:09, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Vindication - I understand. But some user named Florian Blaschke placed the language under the Altaic group, saying that "we do use Altaic as an areal classification, not a family", but I strongly discredit Korean being part of Altaic. I support grouping Korean with Japanese, but I don't know if there are any strong connections and resemblances. Aki (contributions) 20:16 (PST), 11 February 2017.
Vindication - Help, there seems to be a confusion about the Korean language, to whether its Altaic or not (an isolate). There is a need to settle this please because User:117.53.77.84 keeps on reverting my edits about Korean's classification. This is confusing whether Korean (and its dialects) is a language isolate or part of the controversial Altaic areal group. Aki. 19:49 (UST), March 21, 2017 (Tuesday).

Fuzhou(nese)

Hi, Nin-5H. I have reverted your move, because I don't believe that "Fuzhounese" is a common name for the dialect in English. If you think Fuzhou dialect should be renamed as "Fuzhounese", you could open a requested move discussion per the instructions at WP:RM#CM. Kanguole 15:22, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Kanguole: OK. I understand. I just wanted to "remove" the word "dialect" from it and use the term "Fuzhounese" instead, because of the "ese" suffix found in other Chinese languages, like Cantonese, Shanghainese, Taiwanese and others. Aki (contributions). February 06, 2017. 23:26 (PST).
Those three are quite common in English, but one can't always translate -huà as "-nese". Kanguole 15:39, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Nin-5H, please note that page moves have to be performed using the page move function. Copy-paste page moves are not okay, because the page history has to stay attached to the content to provide the legally required attribution. Please see Copying within Wikipedia for more information. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:14, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

@Diannaa: That may have been an accident, because I moved Fuzhounese back to Fuzhou dialect at the same time as Nin-5H was editing it. Kanguole 23:59, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Kanguole & Diannaa: OK, I get it that it's just an accident and no, I will not do the copy-then-paste move edits in the future. You may reply back, thanks. Aki (contributions). February 08, 2017. 20:42 (PST).

As a further example of the hazards of translating -huà as "-nese", Suzhou dialect is the normal English name for that variety in English. (I would say that for Wenzhou as well, but it seems the article has been at Wenzhounese for a while.) Also, "dialect group" is the common usage in English-language literature on Chinese dialectology for groups such as Mandarin, Min, Wu, etc. Not every use of "dialect" is problematic. Kanguole 17:37, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Kanguole - OK, I get your opinion and I respect it, but sometimes I find the usage of "dialect" for non-Mandarin forms of Chinese languages as somewhat turning them into mere "dialects" instead of being "separate languages". People in and around China, as well as foreigners, usually use "dialect" (方言) when speaking of/referring to a non-Mandarin form of Chinese, which also includes the three languages mentioned above in the second paragraph. That's why I'm switching them from "dialects" into "varieties" and/or "languages", so as to make them have an neutral or equal status as "separate languages". To me, it's not "Chinese dialects", but "Chinese languages", so I use the "ese" suffix when referring to other Chinese variant instead of using "dialect" (i.e. Fuzhounese instead of Fuzhou dialect). Aki (contributions). March 11, 2017 (Saturday). 13:37 (UTC).

P.S., I have little ability in speaking any Chinese language. I'm still a beginner searching for the best learning resources. The Chinese languages I'm willing to learn are Amoy Hokkien, Cantonese and Shanghainese.

Even Beijing dialect? The term "dialect" is often used for any local variety, with no negative connotations. But in any case, on Wikipedia we are supposed to follow usage in reliable English-language sources, not to promote personal positions or to try to change usage. Kanguole 19:09, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Well, the Beijing dialect is a different one, because it's a dialect of Mandarin, not a separate language like Cantonese and Shanghainese. It's just that I refer to variants (especially prestige variants) of non-Mandarin Chinese languages (Yue, Wu, Min, etc.) with the "ese" suffix. It's definitely OK (for me) to say something like "the Foshan dialect of Cantonese" or "the Pudong dialect of Shanghainese", but not "the Cantonese/Shanghainese dialect of Chinese", because Chinese is a family of different languages and dialects, not a singular language that calls non-Mandarin languages of Yue (Cantonese), Wu (Shanghainese) and Min (Fuzhounese) as just mere dialects, since the three mentioned are separate language groups with special languages, dialects and variants, so are the many other ones too that I haven't mentioned (e.g. Xiang, Gan, Hakka, etc.). BTW, I'm not trying to promote personal positions or change usages. Aki (contributions). March 12, 2017 (Sunday). 17:24 (UTC).
That "of ..." part isn't there – you're just assuming that "dialect" implies it, but that's only one way that the term is used. It really is common to use it without the value judgement that offends you. Also, the identification of "languages" is not as clear-cut as you imply.
But apart from all that, inserting into Wikipedia a usage that you prefer but is not used, or rarely used, in the world outside, is indeed trying to promote that usage. Kanguole 12:14, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
Kanguole - OK, I understand what you are saying, but I also have my own opinion regarding on how I refer to/or mention different varieties of Chinese by name. This time, if my preferred usage is an uncommon one, I'd keep those preferences to myself and not repeat similar mistakes. Let's just maintain neutrality and respect for the two of us and to others, OK? I'm not trying to impose you my own personal interests. If that's what Wikipedia's language-naming rule imposes, then so be it. I am not gonna find a way to break that rule at all. Aki (contributions), 20:28 (UTC), March 13, 2017 (Monday).
Sure, that will do.
P.S. - Where do you live? What is your ethnicity/nationality? What are your main interests? You are free to whether answer one of the three questions, answer all three questions, or not.
I'm a bit shy. My main interests here are Chinese language and history. Kanguole 22:45, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
Kanguole - Well, another reason why I don't use dialect when referring to non-Mandarin Chinese languages is thanks to the linguistic mindset of the CCP. They wanted to clump all the diverse Han ethnicities into one homogenous ethnicity, and promote Putonghua as the only real and superior Chinese language, while the other Chinese languages are repressed into nothing more but inferior dialects. They said that it's for unity purposes and accuse those who oppose them as regionalists, when if fact it hurts the feeling of other Han peoples, especially those who have strong regional solidarities. And thanks to the policy banning local tongues, other Chinese languages, also including regional Mandarin dialects, underwent significant declines. Just take a look at the major cities of Canton and Shanghai. Sure they both speak their native languages (Cantonese and Shanghainese respectively) before, but nowadays, more and more people of the younger generation are using Putonghua instead of their native varieties, even parents who speak native varieties are using more Putonghua to their children. Aki (contributions). 19:41 (UTC), March 21, 2017 (Tuesday).
Oh, I also forgot to ask one question since I also wanna know too. What language/s do you speak? Make sure to include your native language first.

Creation of Gilpertpedon stand alone article

New Updates & Messages For Active Participants in the Marvel Comics work group

  • Current message (25/1/2020)

Greetings to you all & a great weekend. I took the iniative to send this mass message to you all because I observed from the article on Elders of the Universe that certain key members of the Elders of the Universe have no article of theirs and most glaring is that of Gilpertpedon/The Runner. I believe subject has become notable enough for a stand alone article & it would be a great idea for someone in possession of a picture of the runner which is their own work (as to avoid image copyright violations) to begin the article. Then the rest of us contribute to the article’s development.Celestina007 (talk) 14:38, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
