Proposed deletion of Anar Novruzov

The article Anar Novruzov has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Couldn't see significant coverage that would satisfy WP:GNG. His rank is not sufficient to satisfy WP:SOLDIER

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Category:Military units and formations of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Seeing with clear eyes

Hi Solavirum, I appreciate your work within the Azerbaijan-Armenia topic area and wanted to offer some advice. With the greatest respect, if you can't see how Aliyev's statement isn't applicable for the lead of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict (after I've now highlighted the policies to you) I suggest you step back a bit, have a quick (re-)read through the explanatory supplement on advocacy (it's not a long page) and reflect on how it may be hard for you to write neutrally on this topic. I'm not suggesting that there aren't pro-Armenian editors who find it equally difficult to write neutrally, or denying that there are other editors who are much more disruptive because of their biases in this area – I'm not questioning your good faith. However, I think it's important that everyone with close ties to the topic understands this difficulty and tries to recognise when their views are preventing them from writing sufficiently neutrally. All the best, Jr8825Talk 13:50, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

I've just seen the thread at AN/I about you, and want to reiterate that this is general, personal advice that I think you should consider, I'm not trying to suggest that you've been deliberating pushing an agenda. Jr8825Talk 13:55, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
I got it. Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to be neutral as possible and grasp more of the existing guidelines as I proceed. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 19:46, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

House of Khurshidbanu Natavan

Hi. I won't make an issue if it's left as 18th century, but the article says that it was built for Khurshidbanu Natavan (born in 1832) by Karbalayi Safikhan Karabakhi (a 19th century architect). Given that I don't have access to the sources used, I assumed that you converted by mistake 18xx something to 18th century instead of 19th. Hemşinli çocuk 04:08, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Well, the sources say 18–19th centuries, and doesn't specify if the house was built as an ordinary residential building in the city, or specifically for Natavan. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 04:31, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Do you have any quote from that source? The Azerbaijani version of the article says 18th century, I was not able to find that source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ermenermin (talkcontribs) 02:02, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Ermenermin, RusWiki says so, and cites a Soviet-era book. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 17:10, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Yes, but it's not the same source, both are different authors, as it stands wrong author is cited. Hemşinli çocuk 18:03, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Azerbaijan Democratic Republic

Prior to the ADR established in 1918, what sovereign, independent state used the word Azerbaijan in its name? Yes, there was the region in northwestern Iran, but in that region there didn't exist a country called Azerbaijan. There was no "Azerbaijan Khanate", there was the Tabriz Khanate, the Urmia Khanate, the Ardabil Khanate, etc. but none of those states ever coalesced to form a united Azerbaijan Khanate. And the Shirvanshahs, the dynasty that ruled the region for centuries, from the Abbasids (800s) to the Safavids (1500s), never called the land they were ruling Azerbaijan, instead, they called it Shirvan. My point is that the last state to use the name Azerbaijan was the province Adurbadagan in the Sasanian Empire in Late Antiquity. Oghuz Turks didn't begin settling the region until the 1000s with the arrival of the Seljuks, so prior to the Turkic invasions of the 11th century, the region was inhabited by Arabs and Iranians. And even after the Seljuk conquest of 1066 and the ensuing Turkification of the region, no Turkic country called itself Azerbaijan, instead, the name Azerbaijan was used for historical purposes until 1918. So how am I wrong to say that no Azerbaijani-speaking state with Azerbaijan in its name existed from 1066 until 1918? Epitome of Creativity (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Ways to improve Agdaban massacre

Hello, Solavirum,

Thank you for creating Agdaban massacre.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Either the title of this article isn’t the commonly used one, or the event isn’t a notable one(which seems unlikely) I noticed it had been deleted 9 years ago because it didn’t have enough reliable sources substantiating what was written in it, & it seems this may be the case even now(9 years after) Secondly could you adjust the tone of the article? Thank you

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Celestina007}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Celestina007 (talk) 18:03, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Celestina007, I know that there were a few to none RS mentioning it, but I've found a BBC article covering the topic. Isn't it making it notable enough? Also, how can I improve the tone? I've only cited RS when it comes to historical/controversial areas. Only Azerbaijan-based sources are for the village's geographical features. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 18:06, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay I was optimizing the google translate tool, the piece is borderline-ish, it looks like an opinion piece. Also, just to let you know, A BBC source doesn’t equate a reliable piece. I myself, I’m also baffled as to how such an event has me digging deep for sources when such an event ought to be raining sources, I’d take a look at google books and if I find good stuff I’d mark it as reviewed. Celestina007 (talk) 18:19, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
I just took a second look and in my opinion, i think the problem is with the title, a search under the name Agdaban massacre brings up nothing concrete in google books. At a point google proceeds to ask me if I mean something else. Celestina007 (talk) 18:30, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Celestina007, I've found this: "From early February onwards, the Azeri villages of Malybeili, Karadagly, and Agdaban were conquered an their population evicted, leading to at least 99 civilian deaths and 140 wounded." I think I can do deeper search, and yeah, Agdaban massacre seems to be a not appropriate common name. Maybe, a naming like here would be more fitting? --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 18:51, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
It seems to a quote from Svante Cornell's work. He's a RS. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 18:54, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

honestly I think you should look for the most common name for that event, when you do so, I believe the issue of RS wouldn’t be an issue anymore, search deeper, I’m sure there’s a common and appropriate name for that event, it’s not plausible that such an event should lack RS, when you find a common name, ping me to move it for you and mark it as reviewed. Celestina007 (talk) 19:18, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Maraga massacre

@El C: Hey, as you recently handled the incident report that I opened against Solavirum, I wanted to ping you over this edit [1] on the Maraga massacre article. I hope that posting this on Solavirum's talk page is not an improper way bring the issue up - but whatever intentions behind the recent edit, if an editor cannot understand how it is improper to put a battle-type infobox with the description of an "Azerbaijani victory" for an article regarding a massacre of Armenians, then I believe (in very mild-worded terms) that the editor in question has a lot to learn. I don't believe it would ever be proper to do the same for the Khojaly massacre for example, which was a massacre of civilians that was also characterized by armed combat. AntonSamuel (talk) 19:23, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Solavirum, why are you adding the "victory" parameter to a massacre? And while an AE complaint about you is still pending? I'm sorry, but that does not inspire confidence! El_C 19:29, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
AntonSamuel, and El_C, please see my reply here. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 19:56, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Notice that you are now subject to an arbitration enforcement sanction

The following sanction now applies to you:

You have been indefinitely topic-banned from any pages or discussions relating to Armenia and Azerbaijan (WP:ARBAA2), broadly construed

You have been sanctioned per this AE complaint. Needless to say, acute problems have been identified. Your continued presence in this fraught topic area has been deemed damaging both to the verifiability of content as well as to the project's reputation. Multiple instances of tendentious (or incompetent, whatever it is) editing has been documented in the AE report, including even ones occurring while the AE proceeding itself was ongoing. In short, you have proven to be a liability for this topic area, which is why I have put this total prohibition into immediate effect.

This sanction is imposed in my capacity as an uninvolved administrator under the authority of the Arbitration Committee's decision at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan 2#Final_decision and, if applicable, the procedure described at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions. This sanction has been recorded in the log of sanctions. If the sanction includes a ban, please read the banning policy to ensure you understand what this means. If you do not comply with this sanction, you may be blocked for an extended period, by way of enforcement of this sanction—and you may also be made subject to further sanctions.

You may appeal this sanction using the process described here. I recommend that you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template if you wish to submit an appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. You may also appeal directly to me (on my talk page), before or instead of appealing to the noticeboard. Even if you appeal this sanction, you remain bound by it until you are notified by an uninvolved administrator that the appeal has been successful. You are also free to contact me on my talk page if anything of the above is unclear to you. El_C 22:46, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

El_C, does this apply to Armenia–Azerbaijan topic, or Armenia and Azerbaijan topic? Like, am I blocked for creating an article about a building in Baku? Also, what will happen to my current and future (the ones that are getting copyedited) GANs, as all of them are related to the NK conflict. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 22:51, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Solavirum, it applies to pretty much anything that is related (whatsoever). The countries together, apart and anything in between — that is the meaning of WP:BROADLY. El_C 22:57, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Just a note to say I appreciate this must be tough given the amount of work you've done on this topic. I encourage you to not see this as permanent, but as an opportunity to step back and take a break from this contentious area. Perhaps some broader reading and participation will mean that in the future you'll have the experience to contribute to the topic neutrally and you can appeal. N.B. Sorry about the edit summary, I messed it up as I was reverting your edit to the list of Armenian massacres in a separate tab at the same time. Jr8825Talk 01:44, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Jr8825, with all respect, I understand your points. Though it is hard to make divinely good edits within such a topic, also regarding that the topic itself attracts other users that might or might not be pushing harsh amount of POV. My edit on the list of massacres of Armenians was per this discussion ("massacres are quite normal in war, it does not necessarily indicate anti-sentiment against a certain ethnicity"). --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 09:37, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

DS alert

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

AE block

RE: User_talk:Jr8825#BBC_Azerbaijani. Solavirum, don't test the boundaries of WP:BROADLY. Don't even mention the topic area in any way, whatsoever. Don't tell other contributors you read what they said about the topic area. And definitely don't coordinate off-wiki communication about the topic area on-wiki. None of that. What were you thinking? Because there is an important ANI discussion involving you at the moment, I left you the ability to edit project pages so that you can continue contributing it, but otherwise, this would have been a sitewide block. El_C 03:57, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

El_C, really? I thought the ban was only for articles and article talks, didn't knew that it passed over to user talk pages. I told Jr that I'm not too aware of the ban's boundries, so I can't even talk about a source's reliability? Again, don't get me wrong, I just don't know the boundries. Moreover, does this also include the situations where I'm tagged somewhere regarding the topic, and talked about (in a right or wrong way)? Also, the only interaction between me and Jr about the topic was the comments you see on-wiki, we didn't do anything off-wiki, as Jr8825 can say. So, just to understand the topic ban, am I prohibited to use the word Armenia and Azerbaijan anywhere on-wiki? --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 07:47, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Solavirum, you're asking "really?" — realy? Maybe you should have kept the ban notification as a reminder, because what further explanation do you need when its message states: You have been indefinitely topic-banned from any pages or discussions relating to Armenia and Azerbaijan (WP:ARBAA2), broadly construed. El_C 11:45, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
El_C, got it. Thank you for notifying. --► Sincerely: SolaVirum 16:43, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
@El C: I think some degree of responsibility goes to me as well, as I suggested an off-wiki email. Although Solavirum obviously shouldn't have left me that message, I should've been a more direct about it violating Solavirum's topic ban, instead of understating my concern. Apologies to both. To enforce an arbitration decision and for violating a topic ban, you have been blocked from editing for a period of 2 weeks. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

Drmies (talk) 14:53, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes" [in the procedure]). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

Drmies, I just realised that the article itself directly falls within the scope of WikiProject Armenia. Well, in this case, this is violation of the topic ban. Because of this, I accept punitive actions. Thank you. --► Sincerely: Solavirum 14:57, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

  • I'm sorry--but yeah, that seemed kind of obvious to me, and I guess to others. The letters "armen" occur 71 times in the article, if I remember correctly. Well, the block is for two weeks and that's not very long, and I wish you the best. But please be mindful of how you address your opponents/fellow editors; charges of a witch hunt are quite serious. Take care, Drmies (talk) 15:02, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
