Not an admin?

How are you not an admin yet? I think we could fix that. bd2412 T 20:34, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

  • Would be helpful to be sure. :) Particularly those times when I list an article at WP:RPP and it takes 6 to 8 hours for somebody to deal with it. I wouldn't mind handling some admin tasks. Safiel (talk) 21:22, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
    • It would be good for you to have a bit more participation in AfD/CfD/RM discussions, for this purpose. bd2412 T 13:38, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
I see lots of AfD participation (but not recently), a demonstration of clue in discussions, and an ability to stand up to existing admins when required (see above). I can look more thoroughly if you like. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:43, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
I think that would be a good thing. Safiel is an industrious editor, and the project would benefit from their being an admin. My only concern is the degree to which the adminship process itself has become negative. bd2412 T 15:54, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
  • @BD2412 and Ritchie333: I agree with you regarding participation in discussions. For about the last year and a half, I have been concentrating very much on cleanup of judge's articles, so haven't done much outside of that. After I complete this current group of judge's articles from Gerald Ford, which should take just a few more days, I will start to step back into various AfD and other discussions. Safiel (talk) 16:16, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
By the way, when you are done with federal judges, if you need something to occupy your time, there is much to be done at Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/United States judges and justices. Cheers! 03:46, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your 2016 creation of the Fat Leonard Scandal article

Though I think the article deserves to receive considerably more attention, your initiative provided the venue for accessibility to an extremely important public issue after it being ignored for years on Wikipedia. I just sent similar a note to User: Neutrality because they improved the article considerably by the addition of a table to their ongoing textual contributions. I suppose I should figure out how to send each of you a barnstar. Kudoes! Activist (talk) 21:44, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

  • @Activist: Thank you. I figured such a high profile scandal should have its own article, rather than be included in another article, as it was previously. Safiel (talk) 23:15, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

July 2018

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Talk:Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. B dash (talk) 02:41, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

  • Note @B dash: That particular comment was deliberately not dated, using the three tilde function. I deliberately did not want a time stamp on it, nor does it need a time stamp, since it is just an explanatory note, not part of a discussion. Safiel (talk) 02:52, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

List of federal judges appointed by ... articles

I appreciate your cleaning up of the judicial appointments articles for most of the presidents when it comes to the tables on the pages. Would you be willing to do the same for the George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush articles? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 15:10, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

List of Circuit Judges Article

Hello, a user recently created the List of current judges of the United States courts of appeals article and has been populating it and linking it to various federal courts pages. It's my impression that this page is immensely redundant, as Template:United States courts of appeals judges and the individual pages for the United States court of appeals already exist. Do you think that List of current judges of the United States courts of appeals would be a viable AFD candidate? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 00:36, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

@Safiel: Thanks. I'll drop a comment. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 01:07, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Comment @Safiel:@JocularJellyfish: PLEASE READ - FROM THE ORGINAL CREATOR. I created this list because I was searching in vain for a list of all the appeals court judges in one location. The list exists nowhere on the internet (after a pretty thorough search). I was interested in a list because of the recent supreme court hoopla and many nominees come from the appeals courts. It's just convenient to have them in one place. It gives you a solid overview of the system visually. It allows you to quickly compare the courts. The data on the nominating president is critical because it gives you an idea of the ideological balance of the court and the appeals court as a whole. All that said, its become of a bit of a passion project and my introduction to being an editor on wikipedia. I've spent many hours on it even though the core data comes from the existing appeals courts pages. Updating it isnt bad at all. Once a month I go to the pages and bring the data to my main list. I'll add that the page is already seeing hundreds of views daily - some people are interested. I cannot see a good reason to delete the page. I appreciate your concern and for taking the time to adress some issues and for the past work you've done on wikipedia. But I'd really like to keep this page going. At the least maybe we can assess six months from now? Thoughts?
  • Kudos - Hi, just closed this nomination as Keep, but thought I'd come say thanks - cheered me to see Nom not merely change their minds but actually do the slightly unusual work necessary to abrogate the reasoning for their own nomination. Nosebagbear (talk) 19:54, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Nominator or Appointer

Hello, the recent discussion that we both participated in over whether to use nominator or appointer in infoboxes has been archived without any consensus being reached. What should be done? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 22:17, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: At the moment, I would just wait and see. I have gone through all judge articles from Obama back through JFK and I have processed about 2310 judge articles, which now read appointer. I would just keep periodically changing any nominators you see to appointers and hopefully people will finally get the point. I would wait before starting another discussion. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get the participation level in a discussion needed to formally decide the issue. If there continues to be a problem, then another discussion will be needed, but hopefully people will get the point. Safiel (talk) 16:40, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

File:Walter Angus Keeling.jpg

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Erskine Mayo Ross

May I ask why the fact that he is one of the founders of Alpha Tau Omega was removed from the article? While it may not belong in the heading, I feel it should be somewhere in the article.Naraht (talk) 16:35, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

  • @Naraht: My main reason for removing it initially was that it was mentioned only in the infobox, with no mention in the body and no reference. However, I have added a referenced mention of it in the body and accordingly I have restored the blurb to the infobox. Safiel (talk) 20:45, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Please do not change degree abbreviations unless you are familiar with the history of the university at issue

Just noticed this edit. The University of California has always awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree, or B.A. Not the A.B. The B.A. is written into section 7 of the Organic Act. --Coolcaesar (talk) 23:29, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Coolcaesar my edit was proper and made in good faith, based on a reliable source. I committed no fault in making the edit. Also, not every user is familiar with the organic acts of every damn college in the land. If the reliable source, in this case FJC Bio, says A.B., then that is what I go with. Reliable sources can be wrong in some cases. That is the fault of the source, not me.
