Erron Maxey

Hi, You say the list is not comprehensive. There are important highlights and awards missing. I am new to this so if I send the verifying links can you fix it up so I don't mess up the formatting. Things little Nike Battlegounds King of LA 2002, Nike Battlegrounds Champion USA 2003 and MVP Mitchell Cup Dominican Republic, 2016 should be recorded. It is important his page is update with the correct information. He is applying for a visa that requires a comprehensive record of his basketball achievements. An immigration officer will look at Wikipedia to verify his claims. I'm with Erron now so the information I'm getting is straight from him and can be backed up with articles, websites and documentaries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.165.145.120 (talk) 12:57, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Check your talk page. The short answer is that not all awards go in the infobox. You can add a list to the article, though. Also, Wikipedia is not a good option for official verification, especially when an unsourced list of achievements is added. Rikster2 (talk) 13:04, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

About college categories

Hello R2. You're right, it's redundant. Best regards. MusiCitizen (talk) 16:32, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Jeff Ruland revert

Hello,

The above article is also in Category:Iona Gaels men's basketball players, a child category of the category you just removed. So if you believe the information to be untrue, you might as well remove Category:Iona Gaels men's basketball players from the article.

However, I was about to remove Category:Christian Brothers school alumni from the article anyway because when I added it I was not aware of the parent/child category conflict. When I returned to remedy the situation I noticed your edit.

Regards, Gjs238 (talk) 01:52, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

  • Got it. I didn't understand because there are high schools called "Christian Brothers Academy" and such and I didn't understand the connection as "Christian Brothers schools." I'd have expected "Christian Brothers colleges if it was referring to Iona. Seems like very few articles would be in that category, most would be in sub-categories. Hey, I saw this and I just wanted to let you know that you're wasting your time. This user does not change editing style, simply pressing the "accept" button dozens of times an hour using AWB with their own ruleset. Just revert those edits you disagree with per WP:BRD and force a proper discussion. It could be that an RFC is required to analyse the (mis)use of the tool. DeAndre Liggins

Hello, I noticed that you reverted my edit on DeAndre Liggins a few days ago, and I completely agreed with your reasoning. However, as I was looking through the official NBA transactions page here and I noticed that he is still listed on here as having signed a contract with the Cavs on August 2. I was going to revert the edit, but I thought I'd get your opinion first. I know he isn't on the roster and there hasn't been an official press release, but I think that statement is enough to warrant listing him on the team, especially considering he was listed on their roster at one point. If I could get your input, that would be much appreciated. Thanks. --Miamiheat631Talk 01:58, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Miami - we've got to have some standard for adding a team and it is basically for thre team to officially acknowledge it via an announcement or adding to the roster. Otherwise, how can we say a player is with a team if the team doesn't admit it? The NBA.com transaction page hasn't really factored in previously. I'm not going to go all hell bent about transactions since they will be official not too far in the future after training camp. But I do hold to the team needing to announce. I'm not going to fight over it, though. I appreciate the work you do and I know you are coming from a good place. Rikster2 (talk) 02:11, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Sounds fair to me. Just wanted your input on where the NBA transactions page stands. Thanks! --Miamiheat631Talk 23:57, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Prods

I removed some of your proposed deletions, since the articles seemed to have some claim to notability. Feel free to list at AfD if you wish though. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 16:39, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

OK, but I think you are aware that "playing in Lebanon" doesn't meet any current WP notability standard. Nobody has cared about these articles since they were (poorly) created a year ago. Feel free to improve and source them, but in the meantime I am listing for AfD. Rikster2 (talk) 17:25, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
I am aware of that, but since I thought they presented some signs of notability, I removed the prod. Had it have been some junior college coach, I wouldnt have touched it. It might be true that they lack notability and should be deleted, but I think AfD should sort that out. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 18:26, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
There is so much garbage on Wikipedia that it obscures the important stuff and there are not enough admins to work AfD queues. These articles are examples of ones written by single-use accounts (that only created the article then left) and haven't been significantly formatted, improved or updated since. I AfD'd them, but that take 4-5 steps and several weeks. I just don't think if these players are worth the effort if no one will touch the articles. In my mind they aren't notable, so why keep them around? Rikster2 (talk) 20:22, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Robert Battle

Good Call. I agree with with you that the Argentine league is not on the same level as the NBA or even Euroleague. However, in Battles case I believe he is independently notable. If all that can be written about an Argentine player is a two sentence stub with a reference, I'd probably be in favor of deleting it. However, this goes to show how AfD can be used to improve an article with a sense of urgency. The article could be tagged with notability or references or whatever for years and nothing would happen. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 19:11, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Casper Ware signing

RealGM's transactions page (which I'm using) has proven reliable for signings that didn't make it onto the official NBA Transactions page and haven't been announced in a press release.G. Timothy Walton (talk) 17:52, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

See our talk page. RealGM is WAY too inaccurate a website to be used as a reliable source. They may usually get the signings right (because they add them when they are reported by other press), but they take no care to have correct information (particularly places of birth) and this disqualifies them as a useable source for basketball. Rikster2 (talk) 18:13, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
The only part of their site I've been using is their NBA Transactions page. There are dates for which they've been more reliable than the official NBA site's transactions page. I've yet to see any of the signings on their Transactions page that hasn't accurate, and only one in which they've disagreed with the official NBA page. Since the press releases of minor signings can take place weeks later, I've been adding whoever shows up on RealGM. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 20:53, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
The standard to update a new team for a player has been team announcement for years. Why would this page use a looser standard? The time delay is simply not an issue for an encyclopedia (as opposed to a news source), and RealGM being as inaccurate as well is a big part why they should not be treated as an official source. They are useful directionally, but their info should always be corroborated by another source. Rikster2 (talk) 01:08, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Category: Basketball players from Berlin

So the category is ok for football but not for basketball? Stephreef (talk) 14:16, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

I don't know anything about a football category. Has it been put up for discussion and made it through that? Many categories get created, it doesn't mean they meet WP guidelines. Rikster2 (talk) 14:26, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Molly Bolin

Sorry if I stole one of your topics you wanted to write about (I just saw it listed on your userpage) I actually just started learning about the women's side of professional basketball and noticed Molly was redlinked even though she was extremely important to the game. I appreciate your edits on basketball-related articles; it personally is my favorite sport to watch and learn about.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 22:08, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

No problem. I have had that article on my to do list for a very long time. I am just glad someone created it. Rikster2 (talk) 00:08, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
If you need help with your list, I would be happy to lend a hand. I have been trying to write about a completely different subject than I am used to, and I think basketball may just be what I am looking for.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 14:46, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
Sure, have at it if any look particularly interesting. I have no ownership of those topics Rikster2 (talk) 14:54, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
I also meant to ask you something a few days ago. Are basketball players notable for playing on the Harlem Globetrotters, but no other team? I was checking the notability guidelines for this, but could not find anything because the Globetrotters are technically an exhibition team, unless I stand corrected.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 01:42, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
No, they need to meet WP:GNG. Some like Curly Neal definitely meet that standard, but many, many others do not. Rikster2 (talk) 01:46, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Zach Auguste does have Greek citizenship

As I explained to you earlier, he's a natural born Greek, meaning he has Greek full citizenship rights at the time of birth. Since he was not born in Greece, he then simply has to fill out paperwork and then he gets full Greek citizenship. He then has to wait for the paperwork to be processed. As I said earlier, it was already reported in Greek media last year that he filed the paperwork. That means he simply has to wait until it is processed. It usually takes about a year. He filed a year ago, so he will definitely have official citizenship (not naturalized either) or he has it already. And these things are not always announced. For years people said Rony Seikaly did not have Greek citizenship, and then about a year ago he said in an interview he had it for many, many years already. If someone edits Auguste's profile to stat he has Greek citizenship, it's not a wrong edit. Because the only issue would be him attending a swearing in process, which has to be physically done in person in Greece. Like I said before, once any playing obligations were done in USA, it was said he was going to Greece to be sworn in. That was a last year. He got cut from the Lakers NBA roster and is not on any team in USA, which means he will obviously be going to the sworn in process. Basically what I am saying is, an edit stating he's Greek or has Greek citizenship should be acceptable.Bluesangrel (talk) 17:47, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Then there needs to be a source on the article that expressly indicates this - that he has citizenship, is eligible to play for the Greek national team, etc. Otherwise, it doesn't stay in the article because it's a leap and not obvious. Rikster2 (talk) 20:54, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
Greek media reported he already took the citizenship. So it is just about him coming to Athens to be sworn in as I said. I am sure there will be an article very soon. I never edited to say he's got Greek citizenship myself. I am just saying that others doing did not make wrong edits, but factual ones. I am merely pointing out editors making that edit are doing perfectly fine edits. It's not a leap, it's factually true. In other words, I just wanted you to understand that editors making that edit are doing so in honesty.Bluesangrel (talk) 18:10, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
An update, in English, at the EuroLeague's official media site, eurohoops.net, August confirmed he will be getting Greek citizenship. Just so you know it is true. Zach Auguste: “I won’t give up until getting to the NBA”Bluesangrel (talk) 02:11, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Right, but if he is in the process of getting Greek citizenship then he didn't have it back in October when we started this discussion (and when I removed it from his article). Once it is confirmed that this has gone through, then it should be added. Rikster2 (talk) 02:48, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Carroll Broussard

Don't know what inspired me tonight to write that, but I also noticed there are three more SWC POYs who are repeat winners. I can't promise I'll get to any of them soon (finding a night where I had both the time and energy to write a fleshed-out article on Broussard was rare enough), but I may try to get to one or two of those guys. If you happen to feel inspired anytime soon to write a decent, long overdue article, we could try to knock out a good chunk of the remaining SWC redlinks simply by making those three articles. No pressure, just spit-ballin' here. Jrcla2 (talk) 03:44, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Sure, I will take a shot at Bennie Lenox, who also died this year. Not sure when, I tend to have "stop/start" time more than concentrated time, which doesn't lend itself to writing articles. Rikster2 (talk) 11:15, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
That's kind of my issue too, not having one long night to dive into crafting an article of substance. The NBL players are easy and templated, but CPOYs I like to flesh out a bit more. Lenox was a great player, from the sources I've seen. Jrcla2 (talk) 13:08, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Better late than never, but Lenox is done. Rikster2 (talk) 01:43, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

League specifications in basketball infobox

Can you point me to the discussion in which it was decided to remove league specifications (e.g., the ABA and the ABL) from the basketball infoboxes? I would like to see the rationale that was behind this decision. — Myasuda (talk) 23:41, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

There has never been a clear consensus to add leagues after teams. There was a weak consensus to add country (which would link to the league where possible) in cases where a person played outside the U.S. and this was extended by some editors to non-NBA leagues. However, actual practice for the last few years has been to remove them and most frequent basketball contributors are on the record for removal. This reflects a shift over the years from treating the NBA as the primary focus of basketball articles to adopting more of a world view and standards shifting with those philosophies. The rationale for removing is this:
  1. They clog up the infobox, especially is the team or league/country name is long. Infoboxes are condensed space and we need to make choices about what they include. Adding country/league is somewhat useful, but at the expense of clean use of white space.
  2. They are very American-centric. Country is used instead of league in every case except US minor/defunct leagues. But if you start to list league instead of country then you end up with a lot of leagues no one knows and it doesn't accommodate promotion/relegation which is common in European leagues.
  3. There are many cases where a player only plays in one league their whole career. 5-6 entries of "Greece" or "ABA" looks pretty stupid. But if you remove some and not all you lose consistency.
  4. Many more foreign and alternate-league teams now have articles so in most cases the reader can go to the club article to learn what league it was in.
  5. They have become a crutch for not writing a full article. A number of articles are stubs that don't document player movement. A good article should talk about each team, where it was and how they performed. Do this and you don't need country/league in the infobox.

I think this last one is most germaine to US leagues. The article should cover player movement and if there is confusion around what league a team belongs to that should be spelled out in the article. If a player competed for, say, the Spurs in both the ABA and NBA that should be noted in the article. While somewhat useful, the added space of adding "Dominican Republic" or "D-League" after a team name doesn't help the reader as much as having a clean list. Rikster2 (talk) 15:50, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for taking time to outline some reasons for league removal from the infoboxes. On balance, however, I still favor their retention as they give less knowledgeable readers an at-a-glance overview of a player's career league movement. You mention other contributors as being on record as favoring removal, but I must have missed that discussion. Was there one at the NBA or basketball project pages? If so, around what time frame did it take place? — Myasuda (talk) 04:17, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
that's great. Why don't you instigate a discussion at WP:BASKETBALL asking for consensus to include them if you are so inclined. As I said, there was never a formal consensus to include league, so that part would be a new RfC. Rikster2 (talk) 04:44, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay, discussion is now open at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball#League specifiers in the basketball player infobox. — Myasuda (talk) 02:33, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
OK. I will chime in once a couple of others do. I might suggest linking the discussion at the NBA and college basketball Wikiprojects to enhance response. Rikster2 (talk) 02:35, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Template:Continental Basketball Association

Thoughts? Seems like crazy overkill, especially to have dozens of players listed on a league template. Jrcla2 (talk) 15:10, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm. OT a fan. That template is too wide-ranging. So much so that I don't think it meets the template requirement that articles relate to one another to a reasonable extent. Rikster2 (talk) 19:19, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Change to Tony Gaffney

Hello Rikster. I have consistently made a change relative to playing with the Celtics. I make this change (removing it) because it accentuates something that minimizes any player's attainment of making a professional roster in the NBA in the regular season. My edit is aimed at removing a dichotomizing point that has no relevance to players, who have no idea because of the uniqueness of sharing a locker room or travel or workouts or camps or anything related to this level with them. It appears that that is respected on wikipedia because the many other players who were on active rosters (in the NBA, all who are signed and occupy one of the 13-15 active roster spots, which is often confused with the players designated as "active" for each individual game) but did not play (whether due to injury rehab or because they were signed for the playoff run in case of injury or whatever), do not have such a notation. As such, my recent change I felt was both diplomatic, sensitive, and accurate, without pointing out something that diminishes a lot in a less than judicious way. Thank you for reading. 2601:189:201:E9C:5CCE:76E:B3AA:DD37 (talk) 22:54, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

It has relevance because that's what happened and players who don't ever appear in a game for an NBA franchise don't show on the historical NBA player rolls. If it's there, readers wonder why the team category isn't included, why the team doesn't show inthe club history, etc. (these things are added once players actually play for a team). Saying someone never played a game for a franchise is not a negative statement. It's merely a factual one. And it's a somewhat unusual case, so it's worth noting. Rikster2 (talk) 23:11, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

WCBL champion

Just wanted to know why you removed the WCBL champion highlight from James Nunnally and Greg Somogyi's infoboxes? Why no edit summary for that? The highlight is accurate. I almost felt inclined to revert you straight away. Please explain. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:07, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

This league is less than minor - it's essentially a pro-am. Somogyi had FOUR highlights from it, but the only one I removed was "all-playoff team" because we never put all-tournament in the infobox. You can put them back if you want but that is a crap league to include IMO. Rikster2 (talk) 04:12, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
BTW, looks like the WCBL hasn't existed for several years. Guess no one noticed. Rikster2 (talk) 04:16, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
My apologies, I thought you removed the champion highlight from Somogyi's article as well. Fair enough re all-playoff team. It just seemed odd to me the random removal but the more I think about it I don't really care haha. I'm not sure why I still have either on my watchlist. TBH - I might just remove the line in the prose in Nunnally's article seeing as he's had a more notable career. I think the Breakers were just a team UCSB players used to join straight after their senior years it seems. Thanks anyway. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:36, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Unanimous AA's

Should we list AA's as unanimous in the infobox? I remember having a discussion on Player of the Year that it wasn't clear who the official selectors were, but it's pretty clear cut for AA.[1].—Bagumba (talk) 18:30, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Why is that needed when we use consensus? I don't thing that distinction between the two is common, but consensus is used everywhere. Rikster2 (talk) 18:35, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
It shows a higher level of consensus. After a quick scan of 2016 college football AAs, it seems inconsistently applied in bios. The other thing I realized is that some players would be consensus one year and unanimous the next, and probably not worth having two ibox entries in that case. Ok, just keep as is.—Bagumba (talk) 00:50, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
I think it is worthy of mentioning in the article but don't think it is important enough to denote it in the infobox. Rikster2 (talk) 02:54, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

I found out how to fix it, and did. Sorry for bothering you. Kalope (talk) 01:27, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

All-EuroLeague Team

Well, we should change that. It's much more accurate to show how many times a player was in an all team, and then also show which teams, and also which years. It's also taking up less space than to just list every single time in an league team separately.Bluesangrel (talk) 20:27, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

No, we shouldn't. The infobox is meant to be abbreviated. If you are showing how many first team and second team readers can add. You can always be more detailed in a list in the body of the article. We don't list every all-league time separately, we group them by the type. Rikster2 (talk) 20:58, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

You sure do act like someone who thinks he owns it. So quit acting like you have final say over every entry on the page if you don't want to be accused of WP:OWN. I had already trimmed it before you posted this. Rikster2 (talk) 00:22, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
In what way did I exhibit OWN? Ro3 may not be a rule but it's a common practice in the article and prevents excessive detail. Rusted AutoParts 00:23, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
If there is a legitimate reason to not stick to the rule of 3 then I will feel free to not follow it. I expect someone will re-add the Timberwolves GM role because it was pretty prominent. But that doesn't mean his college coaching career should be ignored. So you can stop the lecture. Rikster2 (talk) 00:26, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
You're being needlessly standoffish. And quite frankly childish about it. Rusted AutoParts 00:28, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
GFY with that. You're being needlessly beurocratic - and it looks like you have a problem with 1RR from your talk page so maybe you should look inward instead of going to other people's talk pages and trying to order them around. You can stop posting on my talk page now. Rikster2 (talk) 00:30, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

Misuse of rollback

You misuse rollback and restore vandalism, and when I use a dummy edit to tell you that, you tell me to be more careful in the future? Please review the terms of use of WP:ROLLBACK and don't find excuses to blame others. Dummy edits are allowed by the way. See WP:DUMMYEDIT: Addressing an accidental or improper-and-rethought use of rollback for a good faith edit, or at least, for an edit that was not clearly vandalism.. Dr. K. 23:32, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Why are you being such a jerk about player heights and weights, which are easily verifiable? It's obnoxious. If you want to report me and see if you can get my rollback rights taken away over this then so be it. You're just mad as far as I can see. Rikster2 (talk) 00:11, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

I was just thinking last week that it was mind-boggling that Jonquel Jones didn't have an article, but I didn't do anything about it. Thanks.--S Philbrick(Talk) 01:45, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, I was pretty surprised when I saw that an All-Star starter whomwasnt even a rookie didn't have an article. The one I wrote is bare-bones, but it's a start. Rikster2 (talk) 13:52, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

Braydon Hobbs

Hello, sorry to bother you. As you are contributing a lot to basketball-related topics on wikipedia, I just wanted to ask for your opinion. I have edited the Braydon Hobbs article like two weeks ago, adding stats and a couple of lines to his career - nothing special really. That's what I thought. I don't know why, but one user keeps reverting this edit without giving any explanation. I have tried to contact him several times via his talk page User talk:OnkelCharlie‎ to ask what was wrong with my edit, but he never replied. Well, I was just thinking about getting your opinion as an experienced user on how to solve this problem. Don't know if they're anything wrong my the edit which the user keeps reverting, I thought it was ok, but maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I think it would be great if an experienced user like you could take a look at that matter. If you don't want to do that, never mind. Thanks a lot! Zamekrizeni (talk) 13:06, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

I don't see a problem with your edits and the other editor is being non-communicative so I don't know what his/her objection is and if it is valid. My recommendation is to follow the dispute resolution process as I don't expect the behavior will change without some sort of intervention. Rikster2 (talk) 13:51, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Zamekrizeni (talk) 14:14, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

explain

sorry but if you go to another pages, they all have in awards when you a top scorer in a high level tournament or made all tournament team. i think that should be write in awards cause thats a very good award and its something that player acomplishes and should have a mention

there shouldn't be, but it can't be helped if some editors have erroneously put this in the infobox. The infobox is limited space, so some types of awards are left off wholesale - player of month/week, preseason awards, non-official awards (like eurobasket.com) and all-Tournament. It's fine to put them in the article, but not the infobox. Rikster2 (talk) 23:15, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Subgroup MVP not in info box

Why would the sub group MVP not go in the info boxes? They are two completely different tournaments.Bluesangrel (talk) 21:08, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Rikster2, I understand the the navboxes are to be nested per consensus, but you're not doing so in the fashion that was agreed upon. They are supposed to be nested in a grouping with the default verbiage, e.g. Lloyd Carr. Jweiss11 (talk) 19:03, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

And instead of fixing this, Jweiss11, you reflexively just reverted my edit to un-nest the boxes and in the process deleted the basketball All-American category that was my main purpose for going to those articles in the first place. I am fine with with generic navbox language, but that was a pretty passive-aggressive move. Rikster2 (talk) 00:49, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
I missed the fact you had added a category in that same edit. An edit summary would help there. I would like to spend as little of my time as possible implementing this formatting standard, which I still believe is a small detriment to the project. To the extent that you see fit to implement it, please do so correctly and uniformly. My intent with that reversion was to get your attention about the matter as efficiently as possible. Jweiss11 (talk) 01:40, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
I was adding a new category to 1300 articles. You checking what the edit you were reverting actually was would also have helped. You and I have worked together enough here that I'd think you could have just left me a note on my Talk page and either removed the header to the naboxes yourself or asked me to go back and do it (I would have). I get it, you don't agree with the new consensus but I'd ask you to be a bit more collaborative in these matters in the future. Rikster2 (talk) 02:02, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Rikster2, @Corkythehornetfan: the two of you are nesting navboxes on bio articles differently for current coaches. See John Beilein, where Template:Michigan Wolverines men's basketball coach navbox is nested, versus Jim Harbaugh, where Template:Michigan Wolverines football coach navbox is not nested. We're supposed to have a uniform methodology here. Can the two of you work this out? Thanks. Jweiss11 (talk) 01:08, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

I read this discussion as consensus to nest all but "current roster" or "current coaches of ..." templates. Four editors (including myself) advocated this approach while three advocated corky's. In fact, as I re-read it, it looks like corky's vote was actually to nest all, including current templates. Rikster2 (talk) 01:33, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

TW in current roster templates

Is adding "TW" the norm now for two-way players e.g. {{Los Angeles Lakers current roster}}? Seems like most wouldn't know what a two-way players is. Might be better to leave that detail for larger roster listings, and keep the navboxes at bottom of articles simple, just a way to navigate to other players on roster. Otherwise, there should be a key or alternatively a link to what a two-way players is.—Bagumba (talk) 18:31, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

I think it should stay as these are 2 additional roster spots (i.e. - should appear in the current roster template) but they will spend have the year in the G League team by design. I think taking them on and off the NBA team roster is silly because they are on the (what is now) 17-man roster. Maybe adding some template documentation I'll do the trick. There are letter codes on other Basketball current roster templates (example - Template:Perth Wildcats current roster. Feel free to add to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Archive 33#How to reflect 2-way contracts? to elicit a discussion on this specifically. Rikster2 (talk) 18:47, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm OK with having all 17 or whatever players on the current roster navbox. Just wondering if TW note can be removed, or otherwise enhanced.—Bagumba (talk) 18:50, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
I understood. If you are asking me personally if I think we should take "TW" off the current roster templates, my answer is "no." I think treating them like every other player encourages people to take them off when they are down in the G League, and I think that's the wrong approach. I am pretty opposed to adding a key that shows up on the template because it needlessly clogs up the template, but ok with template documentation. The lead for every one of these players indicates that they are on a two-way contract so I feel like if there is confusion people can figure it out by clicking the link. Transactions

When there is a transaction you should also add that information in article. Not just to remove a club from infobox. Is it so hard for you to add one one sentence and source??? For example at DeAndre Liggins I dont know what happened with his career. In text you have information that he is still with Clippers, while in infobox he is free agent???--Bozalegenda (talk) 18:54, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

I do it sometimes. It's not your problem. Rikster2 (talk) 19:01, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes its my problem, and problem of all reliable basketball editors here. How the hell should I know what happened to DeAndre Liggins, is he still with Clippers or not???--Bozalegenda (talk) 19:15, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
Sometimes I clean up after others, sometimes others cleanup after me. That's Wikipedia. I am often on a phone and adding references is a pain, especially given the volume of transactions today. I notice you didn't update Liggins yet, why not if it bothers you so much? I linked the source in the edit summary - he was traded to Atlanta and promptly released. Hey, I'm not sure if you're the best guy I should talk to with regards to something I've noticed with the NBA.com's pages for box scores, but lately, instead of just taking me to the page with the game in question (regardless of whether there's a # on the link or not), it just transports me to the NBA's League Pass page for some unknown reason. I bring this up because I'm not sure if it's just me having this problem (especially since I've lately been a Vivaldi browser user above all others like Google Chrome or Firefox, although I still use those from time to time) or if it's a problem other users are having also, but it's been a concern I've lately got here. Hope you understand what I'm saying here. – AGreatPhoenixSunsFan (talk) 01:06, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Hmm. When I try it I get the League Pass stuff at the top but if I scroll down the page I see the box score and other options. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Rikster2 (talk) 01:33, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Big East

FYI, The AAC and the new Big East both claim the records of the old Big East conference. You can read the history here: 2010–13 Big East Conference realignment. It's a kind of confusing and unusual situation. The AAC is the legal successor of the Big East and the new Big East bought the name from them. That is why the old Big East Conference article was kept separate from the new one. For pages before 2013 we typically link to the old conference. Mjs32193 (talk) 02:21, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Arvesta Kelly

Hi, I'd just like to know if there's a reason you deleted the arrow (→) on the Arvesta Kelly article for his period with the Columbus Comets. It was my understanding that it's used when major league players get loaned to minor league teams such as players in the G-League (ex: Bruno Caboclo). I'm quite sure Kelly's stint in the North American Basketball League was one of those situations, am I wrong? ArmstrongJulian (talk) 21:43, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

There was no formal arrangement between the ABA and the NABL. He wasn’t “sent down” to that team. Rikster2 (talk) 21:46, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
I see. There was an arrangement between the NBA and the Eastern League (or Eastern Basketball Association) though no? Shouldn't I split his years with Pittsburgh now (ie: write Pittsburgh - 1967, Columbus 1967-68, Pittsburgh - 1968-70). I prefer leaving his stint at Columbus in to explain the gap in game logs. I'm not trying to be obstinate or anything, it's just that there's not that much info on 1970's players. ArmstrongJulian (talk) 23:18, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
No, neither the ABA nor the NBA ever had any formal agreement with another league to assign/loan players until the NBA Development League was established in 2001. Rikster2 (talk) 01:30, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
