Help edit

Hello, I am trying to create a page for Kevin Olekaibe, a basketball player, and decided to test it out on my sandbox first. But as I save the article to my sandbox, some of the words and other things do not show up, such as a table for college statistics or a heading for his professional career. They are there in the editing area but do not show up when I click "show preview" or "save page". If anyone knows why this is happening and can lend a helping hand, that would be very, very appreciated. Miamiheat631 (talk) 23:24, 15 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

The table of college statistics doesn't appear because you deleted it, perhaps by accident; I can't see it even in the editing area. (It does appear in this historical version of your sandbox.) The heading for his professional career doesn't appear due to a formatting error in one of the references (the one immediately following "73.6 percent from the free-throw line.") Hope this helps. Help me! edit

Hello, I am trying to work on a few different band member timelines for some bands and was wondering if there was a list of available colors anywhere that I could use to help. If there is, it would be much appreciated if someone would share it with me. Thank you.

There's Help:Using colours, and there are the HTML color names. You could also simply use the hexadecimal code to give the red, green and blue values; #FFA500 will give an orange hue and so on. Huon (talk) 19:02, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ex-NBA players edit

Can you please do a search to try and figure out if a player is retired before you undo closed careers? For Troy Murphy there was actually a sourced "Post NBA life" section of the article that confirmed he is done playing and with Daniel Gibson I was able to find a source where he is described as an "ex-NBA player" who "may never return to the NBA" ( indicating that he left it). Not every player has a retirement announcement and it's pretty common to close player careers after 2-3 unexplained years of inactivity (it's easy to re-open the article if they sign somewhere). Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 10:23, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rikster2 Sorry about that. Usually, since sites like RealGM and Rotoworld never really state that they retire, and since it's never really announced, and especially since on Gibson's page there was never a source stating that he stopped, I just kind of assume that they're still playing. But from now on, I will do some more research before I jump to conclusions like that. Once again, sorry about that. --Miamiheat631 12:42, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
No biggie. I usually just Google "Joe Schmo retired" and often there's a relevant result on the first page. Rikster2 (talk) 12:49, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Juwan Howard edit

I've got no problem with you reverting my edit on Juwan Howard. However it left two redlinks in the high school sophomore section because the template I subst'ed has now been deleted. Since I'm not seeing any difference in the infobox between the two edits I'm reinstating my edit. Whatever problem you're having with the infobox, it's not down to substing a template several paragraphs further down the article. Regards, Bazj (talk) 06:28, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Bazj Sorry about that. It's just when I went back through the edit history, once I got to your edit, a red error message popped up on the top of the page. But once I reverted it, it went back to normal. I agree that it probably had nothing to do with your edit, but I think a couple redlinks are better than having the whole infobox disappear. --Miamiheat631 13:08, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Just checked back in the edit history and went back to your original version and there was no error message. Looks like you were right. My bad. --Miamiheat631 13:10, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Sasha Kaun edit

In regards to Sasha Kaun, please do not add information without an official source. Half of one inch edit

Hi, I note that for the sake of a round figure you made this edit[1] which took off the half-inch from Slavko Vraneš. Ordinarily that would be all right if the player was from a region where the imperial measurement takes precedence over metric, but since mainland Europe is metric, and Slavko is within his homeland region, the article now reports the inaccurate metric reading of 2,29 whereas 2,30 had been a widely published figure. In this case, the imperial measurement is purely there as a guide for those to prefer inches. I am not an expert on the tools but I think if you look at some infoboxes, particularly on football, there is an abbreviation settling that allows you to provide the exact first figure (metric or imperial) and the system automatically rounds up/down the translated figure, for example the height of six feet (precisely 1.8288 but cannot be distinguished by the naked eye from 1.83) with the approximation tool will be produced by giving 1.82, 1.83 and 1.84 from metric. As there is no right and wrong on infoboxes, just choice, you may wish to deploy this tool on Slavko Vraneš to keep one reading accurate and the other rounded. --OJ (TALK) 21:43, 3 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Oranges Juicy Do you know of a way to get 7'6" 1/2 in the infobox? I think it should be in regular units but also agree that the measurements should be as accurate as possible, so if you know of a way get the half-inch in the infobox, which should show 2.3 meters, that would be very helpful. Thanks. --Miamiheat631Talk 21:53, 3 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'll view the source on as many infoboxes as possible, I'm sure I'll find it. Let me just establish, are you saying you do want the half inch? I was of the impression you wanted rounded figures as some editors do prefer that (hence the approximation). --OJ (TALK) 06:19, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Have a look at the article now (Slavko Vraneš). What do you reckon? I amended the configuarion because I don't know any other way. --OJ (TALK) 07:16, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

As per comments above (got quite a history haven't you), I won't get into an edit war with you, maybe that's how you get your kicks but I'd rather contribute something. I created this thread at Wikiproject Basketball, give your arguments (or lack of) in favour of "regular" units (in contrast to those dirty foreign units) in the debate, might be over your writing capability but worth a shot. --ArmstrongJulian (talk) 21:09, 7 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

September 2015 edit

Hi. I see you are likely to go in edit war with other user on Marcelinho Huertas. Please read more about WP:EW and try to find a consensus with user you're having a problem with or start a discussion at WP:WikiProject Basketball.--AirWolf talk 13:51, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi AirWolf, I appreciate your warning and I already know that you shouldn't have more than three reverts on a page, so I won't overstep my boundaries this time. But thanks for the help. --Miamiheat631Talk 15:18, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
It is not about crossing the red line with 3rr, try to find a consensus on his/your talk, or eventually on some WikiProject (e.g. Basketball). Otherwise, you two can go for days, weeks without any intention to find a consensus. And that may also gather attention of some administrator who may block both of you from editing. Be smart and not always so stubborn.--AirWolf talk 15:26, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
This Miami guy doesnt care for warnigns... He just doing what he thinks thats wright, and he doesnt care for consensus and three revert rule. I already wanted to start discussion with him but he just doesnt care for that.--Bozalegenda (talk) 15:55, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
If that is the case, try creating a discussion at WP:WikiProject Basketball. That way, both of you will gather attention from other contributors, maybe even admins. However, as long as any of you don't break 3rr, the one can not be reported to admins for WP:EW. If you believe you are right, try consulting some admin, but first try to find a consensus. If that can't be done, use WikiProject and admin suggestions. This applies to both.--AirWolf talk 16:04, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please provide a consensus for having countries in infobox and then i will leave this. Till that there is no need to complicate infobox, and making mess. Everybody know to click on link, and everybody knows to read text... no need to have countries there.--Bozalegenda (talk) 16:00, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I'm neutral on that. Try find some extra opinion at WikiProject. Similar has been there: Countries and infoboxes.--AirWolf talk 16:13, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Bozalegenda, how have you tried to start a discussion? In this case, it's not about right (with no w by the way) and wrong, it's about trying to be helpful to people who don't want to click on the article pages and read through. A lot of other players (i.e. Jeremy Lin, Hassan Whiteside, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Pablo Prigioni, and Giannis Antetokounmpo to name a few) have the countries in the infoboxes and it doesn't make it look crowded and provides some more information that people can view easily with just a quick glance. And please don't take about me in the third person on MY talk page, and don't refer to me as "This Miami guy" on MY OWN talk page when you can just start a discussion with me. (Which you claim to have done but haven't yet) --Miamiheat631Talk 16:43, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

And please be mature and don't go changing the five articles I mentioned to not have the countries in the infoboxes. --Miamiheat631Talk 16:49, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

You mentioned some players, but i can also provide you a hundred other players without countries in infobox. But that doesnt matter. The main thing is that now in 2015 year, all important clubs in world have their own articles so if someone wants to know from which country is Barcelona then he will just click there and he will see information about the club. Also in text we have everything, so its pretty stupid to make mess in infobox and add countries. Also are you aware that in European basketball teams plays in two or three leagues, so adding Liga ACB for Barcelona doesnt mean anything, cause they are playing in two more competitions.--Bozalegenda (talk) 17:41, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Regular units - When you revert others edits, you are talking about "regular" units. In the US system, units for height and weight are feet(combined with inches of last foot) and pounds, respectively. However, Europeans use metric units, such as meters (more common than centimeters) and kilograms, respectively. Please stop reverting this in the future. It doesn't make sense, mainly because Wiki's templates give you alternative format in brackets. If you want to go with "regular unit" logic, for example, as you did in Miroslav Raduljica article, him being European and playing in European club right now, qualify him for metric system go as primary and US as secondary. There is no need to go in edit war with other user(s) because of that. Argument that he played in NA region is not bold; for active NBA players go for it - for past NBA players such as Raduljica and Krstic use metric system. Do we have a deal?--AirWolf talk 19:44, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Place of birth edit

Hi - I just reverted an edit that you made to Briante Weber and I wanted to let you know why. RealGM.com has proved to be an unreliable source for player place of birth. They port their information from college profiles and use the "hometown" field as "place of birth." Hometown isn't place of birth, it's just where the person lived when the profile was created. If you want an example, look at J. P. Tokoto. His "birthplace" in RealGM is Menomenee Falls, WI where his HS was. But if you look at his college bio (linked on the article) you see he was born in Rockford, IL. Other cites do the same thing, but RealGM is the absolute worst. Man this was explained so many times... If he never played for team in 2015 then we will not add that year. In european and world basketball this is have we do it, there are hundreds of players who have years like that (Lamont Hamilton, Donnie Mcgrath, Nikos Zisis, Manny Harris, Dejan Musli, Justin Carter, Alex Acker... this are just couple examples). Greg Oden and Joel Embiid are not the same thing, they were injured and Embild actually never played for the 76ers...--Bozalegenda (talk) 17:53, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

James Webb III edit

Hey - the Sixers announcement of his signing is from July 8 and terms were not disclosed so it is unclear if it was just a summer league deal. They added Shawn Long (in the same announcement) to their roster, as well as later players like Brandon Paul and Cat Barber, but still no Webb 2 months later. I think given the Sixers' pattern of handling these things we need either a newer announcement or for him to appear on the roster page. Rikster2 (talk) 00:28, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Rikster2 Ah, got it. Fair enough. I figured since Long was listed on the Sixers here on Wikipedia, I should've added Webb III since they were in the same article, but you're probably right in the fact that it was just a summer league deal for the pair. Although I have seen announcements from the 76ers' Instagram that makes it seem like Webb III was a part of the team (birthday celebrations, etc.), I agree that we should keep them off the team until further notice. Thanks for the heads-up :) --Miamiheat631Talk 20:43, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Template:New York Knicks roster edit

Hi,

Next time instead of writing "Source?" in the edit summary, just check those players' articles and look at their edit histories, and you'll see that source might already be given several times. – Sabbatino (talk) 09:18, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sabbatino Every time I add numbers to rosters, I add the source anyways. Now I know not everybody has the same editing styles, but there are so many people that add numbers without any source that it isn't crazy of me to suspect that the editors are just putting the numbers in willy-nilly. It's not that hard to just put the source in the edit summary. I do it with every edit. --Miamiheat631Talk 20:29, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I agree. But it isn't hard to check before removing, is it? – Sabbatino (talk) 20:41, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sabbatino Actually it is. I like to edit as efficiently as possible, and having to go to another article to look at something that should already be in the edit summary is ludicrous. Even after my first revert where I asked for a source, someone edited it without putting a source! It isn't that hard to put the source in there, is it? --Miamiheat631Talk 20:48, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Don't blame me, because I always put the source. Moreover, those players' articles have sources and I don't think it's that hard to at least check those articles before reverting. Nobody says to go and dig Google for that info. – Sabbatino (talk) 20:51, 19 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
