Colombo Racecourse

Hello, I closed the AfD on this, and decided along the way to remove all the edits that related to the cut+paste sort-of move that was done. However, on closer inspection, it seems that we could potentially merge the edits in Colombo Racecourse that occurred after the c+p move into the edit history of Colombo Racecourse Airstrip since the latter was not edited in the meantime, save for administrative edits that we can remove. What do you think? Temporarily, I'm going to protect Colombo Racecourse Airstrip to prevent further potential problems. Splash - tk 22:47, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for encouraging further comment. My suggestion would be that we now rename Colombo Racecourse Airstrip to Colombo Racecourse to maintain the older edit history. We can then create a section (called Airstrip) in the new article that covers the temporary WW2 airstrip. Colombo Racecourse Airstrip should be retained as a redirect to the new title. Any merger of content/history would also be fine, I think, given new sections will need to be created anyway. We probably need a good summary on the article talk page so that future editors understand what happened with the AFD, renaming, reconstruction, etc. Stalwart111 (talk) 23:06, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes I agree - we should merge the edit history that took place after the c&p and then rename Colombo Racecourse Airstrip as Colombo Racecourse. Thank you both for your help.--obi2canibetalk contr 18:59, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Thank you both. I've now done as suggested above, leaving all the administrative edits deleted as they would have produced overlapping edit histories to no purpose. However, I made a bit of a mess of the selective deletion/restoration required for this, so the logs for the articles are more complex than they should or need to be. Things are correct, nevertheless, I believe. I've put a note on Talk:Colombo Racecourse noting this, and the AfD, but I think it's not appropriate to put an {{oldafd}} there. Finally, I unprotected the now-redirected Colombo Racecourse Airstrip. Splash - tk 22:24, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Looking good. A great collaborative result! Great work. Stalwart111 (talk) 07:52, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 19

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ann Barnes (police commissioner), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tweet (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Sri Lankan Civil War

Hello. You undo my contributions! What was your source? Talk to me before undoing anything. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shah-E-Zaman (talkcontribs) 05:59, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

As I stated on the edit summary, the content you added was not supported by references you gave. You stated "Tamil authories' Xenophobic behavior towards Muslims made it easy for Pakistan to choose the side of Sri Lankan Government" and supported this with a NYT article. The NYT article was about the massacre of Muslims by the LTTE, it had nothing about the Tamil authorities' xenophobic behaviour. You need to find a reference which explicitly supports your assertion that Tamil authorities' xenophobic behaviour led to Pakistani involvement in Sri Lanka. You stated that "In April 2009, Sri Lanka requested $25 million worth of 81 mm, 120 mm and 130 mm mortar ammunition to be delivered within a month" and supported this with a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia is not a reliable source, you will need to find a reliable source to support your assertion.
I have no doubt that Pakistan supported Sri Lanka during the civil war but you will have to find reliable sources to back you up.--obi2canibetalk contr 21:35, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Notice of Dispute resolution discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Ethnic conflict_in_Sri_Lanka".

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 06:21, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:UoJ logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:UoJ logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Battle of the Greens (Panadura)

Hi, why is the redirect from Battle of the Greens (Panadura) leading to Panadura Royal College ? There is a bigmatch section in St. John's College, Panadura too ? Cossde (talk) 03:44, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Why shouldn't it? Panadura Royal College was the first to have a section on the Big Match: 24 August 2012. It wasn' until 6 September 2012 that you created a section on St. John's College, Panadura. And have you forgotten that you requested that the contents of Battle of the Greens be merged into Panadura Royal College? The result of the discussion was merge but somehow you managed to twist that into making it a dab page. And, there is no rule that says "redirect can not be for a single school when both schools have two sections". You have just made this up to get your own way. Please grow up.--obi2canibetalk contr 16:07, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
The redirect should be to whichever article has clear information about the subject. Redirecting to a dab page that shouldn't even exist (I'll be deleting it in a moment, because we don't have a dab page unless there are 2 or more articles) is wrong; since the St. John's article has info, and the Panadrua Royal does not, that's the clearly better redirect. That is, I'm agreeing with Obi2canibe's edit, though not his rationale. Qwyrxian (talk) 23:31, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
OK. On your last point, I think you meant to say "since the Panadrua Royal article has info, and the St. John's does not".--obi2canibetalk contr 18:13, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Tamil Eelam Template

I've just made a duplicate of the WPTE Template with the following title:Template:User WP Tamil Eelam and added them both to the Category:Regional WikiProject user templates.

I feel the older one can redirect to this and for that I feel I should have someone of your own's opinion, what's your take?I don't intend to disturb the Project by going on with the move.Or if you probably think its not broken to fix, I'd be glad to delete the other one then.Thank you.

CuCl2

There's no issue with calling the template User WP Tamil Eelam but you should really have asked for Template:User WPTE to be moved to Template:User WP Tamil Eelam rather than create the template afresh. This preserves edit history. I have corrected.--obi2canibetalk contr 21:32, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Factual issues in Sri Lankan Tamils, Jaffna Kingdom pages

I went to above pages. Most of the things are factual issues. Most of the things are in the resources talking about Tamils. But references are not clearly pointing to Sri Lankan Tamils. As you know there are several Tamil ethnics in SL. So you better use your time to improve that document. Jaffna subrbs

Jaffna

I have reverted your list of suburbs from the Jaffna article for the second time. It is necessary and it doesn't take up much space. The claims for its removal are ambiguous and ill-defined. It's quite appropriate to make acknowledgement of suburbs in a Wikipedia city article. It's quite a common sense inclusion of data. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Psef2234 (talkcontribs) 09:56, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
