...for reminding us about that WQA template. Easy one, and it was resolved quickly. Would that they were all that pleasant! Jusdafax 08:13, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome. It is nice ... and so rare, unfortunately. Gerardw (talk) 21:57, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

2012 Summer Olympics calendar

Are you correct in issuing me 3RR edit warring for {{2012 Summer Olympics calendar}}? I can't find out where? --Aleenf1 13:10, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

exactly why are you putting this on my talk page? I finally agree with Aleenf1 on something. Intoronto1125 (talk) 04:06, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Please, Gerardw, help me with the other admin in the deletion review for Lorenzo Iorio!

Gerardw, please come and read what that admin Jay writes!! It is totally absurd! He refures to read what I wrote!! He ask me to..demonstrate that Iorio was born in 1971 and that he lives in Bari!!!! He did not read anything about what I wrote about NASA ADS, bibliometry, and so on! He still asks me to prove those information with reliable secondary sources!!!! Clarification on my Wikiquette alert

I was not forum shopping and I removed the tag you left there and responded to your comments at ANI as well. If you don't care or don't want to deal with it then fine but they are completely seperate issues. --Kumioko (talk) 02:18, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

What can I do, now

Hi, Gerardw. You see the situation...What should I do with this guy? Is there some form of higher level of appeal? How is it possible that a purely personal and highly questionable interpretation by an admin abusing his power can have an impact? Please, help, advice or act. Michoball (talk) 22:26, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I don't know to what you are referring. Gerardw (talk) 11:32, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts#User:Bobthefish2

In the past, I regret failing to do enough to oppose harassment in the form of baiting.

I responded to Bobthefish2's new gambit here at Senkaku Islands dispute by posting this:

WP:AGF is drained of meaning by WP:POKING WP:BAITING -- see context here + here which justifies zero tolerance.

This makes me sad. I didn't understand.--Tenmei (talk) 20:25, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Moving complaint

I posted a discussion on the harassment by another Wikipedian. You moved the page to AFD. The issue is not the deletion it is the harassment by repeated deletion requests. I consider that moving the discussion to another place is incorrect.Afil (talk) 21:37, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

"Move" has a specific meaning on Wikipedia, see [[WP::MOVE]]. You're obviously welcome to take my advice to continue the discussion elsewhere or not. Gerardw (talk) 22:38, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

AfD nomination for M-quotient

Hey, just letting you know that I fixed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/M-quotient for you and relisted it on today's log page. Next time make sure you use {{subst:afd2}} when you list a page, so that those who frequent deletion discussions can recognize and navigate to your nomination. Cheers. lifebaka++ 23:12, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm not following you entirely -- just used twinkle (but I take full responsibility for my edits!) -- wonder if twinkle is out of date? Anyway, thanks I'll read the {{subst:afd2}} docs before my next delete nom. Gerardw (talk) 23:30, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
That's strange, Twinkle should've taken care of it. It's no big deal, really, so don't stress about it. You'll just want to double check (if possible, it's been a while since I used Twinkle) to make sure it doesn't bug out. Cheers. lifebaka++ 23:40, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Don't worry, I'm a stress free Wikipedian! Gerardw (talk) 01:00, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Dispute Resolution Process

I don't resolve any dispute. I complained about behavior of a determined bully. Someone slapped lightly on his hand. Let's see if it will help. I doubt. And no, I will not engage directly with him in a useless dispute about his behavior. Lovok Sovok (talk) 23:09, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

It appears that you have posted on all recent WQA posts except for the one I posted for User:Phoenix7777. Do you think I can get some comments from you? Bobthefish2 (talk) 20:42, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Xeworlebi / WQA

After replying to your comment at WQA, please let me respond point by point, since you appear to not have read most or any of my comments.

you reverted a reversion without discussion on the article talk page -- I did. I had acknowledged that before you posted your comment and I have admitted that it was wrong. The only excuse I can offer is that I was irritated with Xeworlebi's lack of grammar and formatting knowledge, and then with his automatic assumption that he was right to restore the period to that caption (when he clearly wasn't right).

used an offensive to some phrase "Jesus H Christ" in your edit summary -- "to some" meaning you, and nobody else. Nobody of the others was "offended" at all, it appears, since you're the first one to even note it.

You were edit warring. -- So was Xeworlebi. And imho it does matter that my edit was, in fact, correct. Also, Xeworlebi kept reverting even after being informed of the proper reasoning.

Xeworlebi has let your last edit stand. -- lolwut Excuse me? I politely informed him of the facts, asking him to revert his last revert himself. He didn't "let my last edit stand". What he did was contradict himself. He removed my comment as "nonsense", yet he knew that my edit was correct. He should have reverted his own last revert, which he simply refused to, which then led me to decide to apply it myself, and then he slapped me with a 3RR warning.

And you're vigorously defending him. Ridiculous. -- (talk) 13:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Left a reply on my Talk page for you.

Avanu (talk) 12:31, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Please be more careful

Two of the users who responded (including you) to that WQA suggested RfC/U; that is why I noted that in my initial close which was about the only point of agreement. The rest of the dispute was stuck on the merits. Since then, the subject pointed out that the diffs are stale (something which really should have been noted to begin with); that's about the only other point of agreement between the parties. Your advice to the parties other than that seemed OK, but it was not helpful to:

  1. insert the poor choice of words, "retaliatory WQA", which has since been reasonably disputed by the filer in terms of accuracy (particularly after the subject made out it was intentional), and
  2. insert the tag NWQA for a conduct issue and style of rhetoric which very much falls within the scope of WQA.

These two bulleted points don't promote any form of resolution; they provoke escalation. While I could probably also leave a comment about removing the very signature you were requesting, that isn't at the top of our priorities in the larger scheme of things. Ncmvocalist (talk) 09:01, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for taking time to offer feedback. We are just philosophically coming from different viewpoints, which is good, as WP benefits from a diversity of inputs. I'm going keep doing things the way I do things. Gerardw (talk) 10:59, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't think so; my feedback is in line with the volunteer instructions, which I note is not what your methods are in accordance with. Should this continue to be a source of conflict in the future, that would be unfortunate. Ncmvocalist (talk) 12:33, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

You asked for a third opinion on the Pink Taco article, I've removed it because third opinions are usually most useful when both parties have thrased out the issue on the talk page and their arguments are visible to the editor giving the 3O. I will watchlist the page and try to work towards a solution once the IP has had a chance to make their case though.

Regards, Bob House 884 (talk) 22:24, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Sorry I see you beat me to it, there's the EWN if it's a straight forward edit war, otherwise there's the reliable source noticeboard or the straight forward Content noticeboard. Bob House 884 (talk) 22:27, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Clever! There is one small grammatical hitch: a lower case letters should be used. I would have fixed it but couldn't decide whether to remove the indefinite article or the 's' from "letters". I might add that I prefer "lowercase" as one word, but that is entirely a matter of personal choice (and may deserve its own essay ;) ). Rivertorch (talk) 05:00, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Replaced "a" with "only." May lower case should be hyphenated -- or have an ndash or something. Gerardw (talk) 10:19, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Good faith efforts to discuss things with me

On the wikialert you said that bigk had made good faith efforts to discuss with me. I just cannot see it. Are you able to show me what led you to form that view of the situation?

All he has done without interacting with a discussion point, is say the view is fringe and demand he be satisfied with more citations.

All i have is his opinion he knows better versus my quality citations.

I am really struggling to believe that wiki is a genuine organisation. Surely editors should discuss changes rather than just delete changes and say they are fringe?

And he said twice my edits were obfuscation. He is saying loud and clear that i am deceptive and i call him silly which is pretty tame and i get the warning?? You said he should tone down his comments and he has just come back to say i am unable to demonstrate that he needs to tone down his comments so once again accusing me of dishonesty.

To my way of thinking, Wiki seems like a madhouse. It seems like a rigged game.

Andrewedwardjudd (talk) 12:16, 13 May 2011 (UTC)andrewedwardjudd

I've offered you what advice I can. I understand Wikipedia can be very frustrating. When I find it's not fun anymore I just take a WP:Wikibreak for as long as I need too. Ten months is not atypical for me. Gerardw (talk) 12:04, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
You entered the alert to support the alert against me where i had been attacked by Bigk. And then specifically said that you saw that Big K had made good faith attempts to discuss with me. Since you have said that in a wiki alert, which has been started in connection with bigks abuse of me, and you have supported the alert against me, then you should be able to say why you were able to say it. Alternatively please remove your comment in support of Bigk. Please do not offer WP:Truth to support Bigk in his attacks against me.Andrewedwardjudd (talk) 13:18, 16 May 2011 (UTC)andrewedwardjudd

Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance - your comment has a double-negative

Sorry to trouble you. In your comment on Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance#Personal attack, false accusation and edit warring by Kwamikagami you made the comment: "This is not considered incivil." As this has a double negative, I am unclear as to what you intended. Did you mean:

  • This comment was not a civil comment.

GravEngAbs talk page protected?

Hi Gerardw, Is the Template_talk:GravEngAbs page protected from editing by anyone or just me? Have I been locked out for some reason (probably "disruption" again if anything)? Sorry to bother you, but you recently performed some admin work on this AfD -, and as such, I'd value your help.

I think that this is ripe for closing. From my experience, AfDs generally get closed in the normal 7 day timeframe - this one's clearly hung around because of the lack of NPOV 'votes' and general argy-bargy. My question to you comes from a very out of practice wikieditor - could you suggest the appropriate place for me to request a close, one way or the other? Forgive me but the user (wbby) was asking fir an unblock in exchange for obeying the rules. I asked would he obey the rules if he was refused, a question he declined to answer. But answered in a way that implied he might not. So I asked for claification (twice I beleive). I then responded to his comment about AGF (explaining why I felt I did not breach AGF). How was I poking him? By asking him questions about his actions? As to my oterh posts ther, a couple were aditional clauses that he agreed were vadlid (harley poking is it if he agrees with it). and a question to admins about can these evern be enacted. Could you explain how any of this was baiting? Aslo I was (my last ppost) responding to another user who had made commetns about me, why should I have responded any where otehr then were the comment was posted?Slatersteven (talk) 19:15, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

By persisting to post on his talk page long after any benefit to Wikipedia would be achieved by it. By pointless observations such as [[3]]. By vague accusations regarding "Webby clique." The talk page of a blocked user is a sensitive area, and it's best to avoid posting there unless you are performing an official function or offering support. It's a matter of treating the editor with respect. Gerardw (talk) 20:09, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Hold on, he refuses to agree not to breach the rules and its not in the projects interest to verify that? Sorry but as the user was claiming that they could act like an adult I feel that pointing out they were not was valid, I may have been worng (but given latter commetns not even in reply to me I doubt that, he was clearly just wikilayering). Indead you say I was baiting the user, well I was reponding to a comment about spelling and grammer that was both insulting and offensive (a feature of their 'honesty'), and a boarderline PA (based on tone). I suppose I should have droped it, but supprsingly was tryiing to actualy not go too far (and I would also point out I also decided to drop the matter, if any one was being baited it was me). As to the "Webby clique.", sorry but when I see a user repeadly block for the same offense and then unblocked for no real reason (indead reewarded) for breaching the rules I have to wonder what is going on. If Webby had said No I will not be disruptive if I am blocked would that not have helped his case (by thw way I have been told not to discuse this matter on Drmies ‎ talk page)? Slatersteven (talk) 20:25, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
I take it that you have read his latest responses ( So his comment about not using different accounts at the same time is mis-leading? I also note that you have used his reply to my unessercasy question as evidence in a new SPI case.Slatersteven (talk) 12:29, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

I would like to state that I have had no prior contact with Fran over this users and I launched the ANI, not Fran, and I request that you ask Marko to stop making false alligations of this kind as he has made it clear that I am not to respond to these alligations on his talk page [5].Slatersteven (talk) 23:04, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

It would be better if you called him MarcusBritish. I'm sure neutral observers of his talk page will, and, in fact, have make their own judgements regarding the veracity and reasonableness of his statements, and I have every confidence in the collective wisdom of the Wikipedia admin community. I think my posting such a request would only escalate things more; it is, and has been my hope that with time things will calm down and we can all move on. Thanks for the heads up. Gerardw (talk) 23:47, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, but any more attacks of this kind ansd I will launch a WQA.Slatersteven (talk) 12:50, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Normal regular people use "Marcus", unfamiliar or pragmatic people use "MarcusBritish", very familiar people use my real name. Steven has no use for any variety, civil or otherwise, as he is permanently unwelcome from my talkpage; any comments, messages, tags, notifications, etc, will be removed, unread, instantly. Capiche! I suggest he might minimise his own behaviour by not watching my talkpage, and not stalking my contribs looking for trouble in any WP:HUNTING WP:HOUND like manner. Just as I have zero interest in his edits or existence, now or forever. Amen. I would be honoured, infact, if he returned the exact same sentiment, forthwith. As for WQA, go ahead. I'll simply choose to ignore that too, and any third-party "mediator" comments will also be removed from my talkpage, leaving you to talk to yourself. WQA is a tool designed to resolve issues, not a field for duelling on. Abusing it again will reflect on you, and you only, I'll make sure of that. Stop campaigning, and go use Wiki for what it was designed for, instead of a rally point. Gerardw does right by avoiding invitation to engage in WP:TAGTEAM style support: read WP:NAU and don't become a WP:DIVA. FYI I won't be watching this page either. Don't reply; Steven will do well to remember WP:LASTWORD, WP:EGO and WP:MYOB, WP:DFFWF, and just go play elsewhere. These are my only terms where Steven is concerned, all per WP:PG. He should now aim to WP:UCS, as recommended by Gerard. The game is over; I'm snowballing it. Toodles, Ma®©usBritish [Chat • RFF] 20:17, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I just took a nosey at your old userbox layout, and notice you were in the US Navy. If you're looking for something good on Wiki, and I mean in terms of finding nice articles to read, rather than areas to contribute to, check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Operation Majestic Titan, which is one of the more successful sub-projects on Wikipedia. I don't do ships myself, but the guys involved in this operation are highly dedicated to their interest, and have a good collaborative effort, so you might enjoy perusing through the articles, many of which are of GA or FA quality with a lot of archive photos used. Always nice to get something out of Wiki, after all the putting in we do. Ciao, Ma®©usBritish [Chat • RFF] 00:22, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Inappropriate is as inappropriate does

If the 3RR warning I placed on MathewTownsend's talk page was inappropriate, then so was the 3RR warning he placed on mine in retaliation. Are you going to come to my talk page and declare the same in regard to his action? If not, you - like other editors in recent days - are only giving him the unspoken message that he can continue in edit warring, talk page harassment, escalating incivility, personal attacks, forum shopping, and inappropriate article talk page usage; and doing all without any consequence, ever. Congratulations. Lhb1239 (talk) 17:38, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Your comment on my talk page

I answered on my talk page. But I did not intersperse my comment in the middle of another's as you say. If you look at the comment[6] you will see that the comment of the other editor was signed. Then I added my comment. It did not break up his comment in the middle. The fact that he added a second comment is irrelevant, as the second comment was not the one I was addressing. Are you suggesting that I add my response at the bottom of the page, after many others have commented. If so, then I would have to copy his comment, so that it would be clear what my comment was in response to. Is that what you think I should have do?

If that is what you recommend, then I will move my comment and add an explanation as to what my comment is in response to. Just say the word and I will do that. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:06, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello: I am new to Wiki and am now understanding how it works. I apologize for any hard feeling and will definitely work collaboratively on the subject. I didn't even know that there was a talk page until now and how to respond to other people.

Ckunitsky (talk) 21:25, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Craig

Not a problem, we're glad you're here. It can all be very confusing at first ... when I saw the request at WP:WQA it was thinking "maybe this editor doesn't know they have a talk page." Please excuse any "harsh" language you might have received, the other editors were just getting frustrated trying to get communication started. Gerardw (talk) 22:26, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes... sorry about that! I'll do some cleaning of your talk page of some of my comments, if you'd like... Allens (talk) 22:39, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Better would be help Ckunitsky learn how to do it "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Gerardw (talk) 22:46, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Sure! I had thought it would look better if anyone looked (at first glance) if I were the one who removed the warning templates... Allens (talk) 23:02, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't think it would be an issue, as Ckunitsky's contribution log makes it clear he was a brand new user at the time the notices were posted. Gerardw (talk)

Just wanted to say that your strike and rewording at ANI (regarding the material we discussed) was a classy move. It's far more common to see people dig in their heels when someone objects to what they've said. Folks around here (me included) don't hesitate to criticize when we think other editors have done something wrong, but I'd like to get more in the habit of recognizing people when they do something good. Keep doing stuff like that and you just might soften up this crusty old cynic. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 04:23, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Just linking you to this ECCN response, FYI: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Geopolitical ethnic and religious conflicts#Re: Sheodred

Simply put, I think it was clear to everyone that Sheodred attempted to challenge my integrity yesterday, unjustly and with malicious intent. This is me returning the boomerang, only because I think it's important for people like that to know what happens when they cast the dice with me. This reply will show you that I've been aware of a lot more than he wants us to believe he's engaged in. I many not be 100% civil all the time, but that's just me. Hey! Very very cool. I took up your offer and looked at your page during your user-box faze. Yeah, this presents a whole different person. RCF/U for Hentzer

Both LibStar and I are in agreement that an RCF/U seems necessary for Hentzer now. Though he did not delete the message you left on his talk page, he did not respond to it either, and since you posted it, he has continued to make edits without providing a single edit summary. On Fortaleza, he performed 24 edits in a row today without a single edit summary, and 25 in a row on Recife without a single edit summary.Mmyers1976 (talk) 21:47, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

For WQA?

Hi, it has been suggested that these parties Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive756#Personal attacks from IP editor take it to WQA before the matter spirals.. potential boomerang also impending. Thought you might like to step in and push them (shove!) to WQA as IPs are potentially harder to "control", esp. where there are accusations of racial prejudice and they have no account (i.e. identity) to work with. Sounds like your area of expertise to handle. Cheers, Ma®©usBritish [Chat • RFF] 17:17, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm actually running quite low on Wikienergy right now -- this whole Malleus ArbCom stupidity is draining. Nobody Ent (Gerardw) 21:57, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
I honestly wouldn't waste my time with it if I were you. You know what happens when you take pure concentrated juice and keep watering it down more and more..? Answer: it becomes weak, and eventually it tastes like piss. Not only is the matter so watered down now that it's almost completely fruitless and not worthy of Wiki's time, but members on either side of the argument seem glad to keep the tap running and either make a monster or martyr of Malleus from the sidelines. Even the Nuremberg Trials weren't as farcical. Over 2 words: cunt and civility. It's no more complex than that, except that some people want to make it appear to have more levels. Malleus and friends to water it down into a circus to make Wiki look ridiculous in his favour.. and his detractors who want to turn it into bullshit soup.. with lumps. Personally, I'd rather be a cunt than part of the "one glorious [w]hole" fermenting on Arbcom, which in 6 months will have had either one of two results: a) Malleus will be banned (temp or indef) and nothing more will be said once people move on, or b) Malleus won't be banned and nothing will result and no lessons will be learned. Unless all this crap over civility and swearing leads to reforms in community guidelines, to prevent abuse by editors and/or admins, it's not worth you're getting stressed over. Nobody on Wiki deserves that much special attention for the sake of others getting stressed and involved in some form of Wiki-politics debate that divides the community over a four letter word. I don't see how people can ever take writing for Wiki seriously if such things are the highlight of their day. Not yourself.. but certainly others looking to raise their status by pushing their inflated egos (oft coupled with a dull persona) into the machine. I'm gonna do what any good civilian does: Watch the battle, then go loot the corpses!   I advise you chill and don't take it too seriously.. in a few years, who's going to remember anyway.. let alone care? Personally I think Malleus would make a bad martyr.. and an even worse monster. He's more of an anti-hero: likeable, but not lovable. Bit like Gollum and his "one ring".   Shows how much I care-not.. have a happier New Year! Ma®©usBritish [Chat • RFF] 23:21, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the summary of events

I just wanted to drop a note to say that I was gone when the Malleus situation happened and with the holidays haven't had the time, or honestly the inclination, to dig through the diffs to figure out the sequence of events. These were never presented at the Request of Arbitration either, so it's been a little mystifying. Anyway, thanks for laying out the sequence in way the is easily followed. It's helpful. Seems redundant to sign a section with my (new) name? Username was changed 14 December -- took me awhile to figure out what I "Wikipedia" moniker should be.
