Welcome

(Just for a laugh...)

Hi, Kwiki. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  06:14, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

British English spelling -is- vs -iz-

Hi, many thanks for clearing up a lot of typos in Youth Hostels Association (England & Wales). However I have reverted those spellings where you changed -is- to -iz- e.g organisation to organization. While the -iz- version is not incorrect in British English the -is- version is more common in general usage, see American and British English spelling differences. Wikipedia is also in favour or retaining the existing variety where the article is already substanially established see Retaining the existing variety. NtheP (talk) 12:56, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi NtheP!
Thanks for letting me know! This happened because I only used the US version of the Firefox spellcheck dictionary. I am gonna download the UK version now (and use both!).

The PropheC

Hi Kwiki. Don't forget to categorize new articles, please. It's much easier for readers to find it. Can you also add more references? I'm afraid, that current sourcing of that article isn't sufficient. And one last thing: Wikipedia can't serve as reference for Wikipedia. Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:11, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Vejvančický!
The author of that article is user:Kingjatt and he or she is new here (and probably did not know we cannot refer to Wiki). I don't know a thing about "The PropheC", sorry. I just Googled that phrase; but I did not find references that looked authorative enough. I agree with your concern about the lack of sources. I came across this article while patrolling new pages.

Yes, I've seen that - the band is not notable and apparently will be deleted again. I just wanted to warn User:Kingjatt in a more friendly manner and give him some time for improving of that article. I'll look at The PropheC later today. Thanks for your assistance. --Vejvančický (talk) 13:14, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Tagging for speedy deletion

Hi Kwiki. Thank you for your work on patrolling pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I just wanted to inform you that I declined to delete Saint Danube, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion under criterion A7 because of the following concern: Remember that A7 does not apply to magazines or anything else except people, organisations or web content. See WP:A7M for other common mistakes. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion and especially what is considered Non-criteria. In future you should rather tag such pages for proposed deletion or start an appropriate deletion discussion. Regards SoWhy 08:42, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello SoWhy! Thanks for letting me know! I read A7M. I saw you replaced the A7 with {{dated prod|concern = Non-notable magazine.}} so I can consider this   Done Kwiki (talk) 08:56, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
You are welcome. Also, please remember to always use edit summaries, even on your own talk page. Regards SoWhy 09:37, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Comilla government colege

Was it really necessary to tag this article as nonsense within a minute of it being created? Seems far more likely to me that it's a good-faith attempt to create an article by someone not so familiar with the English language, given that it refers to a place in Bangladesh. You should remember that even when an article is technically eligible for deletion, it's often a better idea to try and fix it up first, or give the original creator a little more time to finish writing on it, before you slap a speedy tag on it. Lankiveil (speak to me) 12:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC).

That was an error on my part, sorry. I just rv'ed and requested deletion of the talkpage.   Done Kwiki (talk) 12:54, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Proofread for Dutch Wikipedia?

Wooden shoes on a fence

Hello Kwiki,

My Dutch is less than perfect, so I'm wondering if you could proofread a short 3-paragraph article on Naturist Christenen in my sandbox? The Dutch version is heavily based on the ones in German and English. These are provided on the same sandbox page for reference, in case anything in Dutch is not clear. Each paragraph can be individually edited, as well. Thanks, RGNU (talk) 07:09, 2 May 2009 (UTC) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:RGNU/Sandbox

Hello RGNU!
Ofcourse! Do you need internal wikilinks? I recommend the title: "Christelijk naturisme" or "Christelijk nudisme".
Did Adam and Eve hide from God in the trees or in between the trees? I presumed it was "in between". King James says: "amongst the trees".
Dutch translation   Done
Kwiki (talk) 16:39, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Hello Kiwi,
Thanks a lot for all the changes! "Among the trees" is good, but not commonly used much. "In the trees" could also mean "in between" (informally). But "in between the trees" doesn't sound quite right in English (without being more specific, like "he's in between those two trees"). If it's ok in Dutch though, go for it.
You can view the posted article at: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturisme
3 Profiel van de naturist
4 Christelijke nudisten
5 Meningen ten opzichte van het naturisme
I added three source references, but feel free to add or change if you find something better on the internet.
Thanks again! RGNU (talk) 02:36, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Hello again Kiwi,
In case you missed it, the article is back up now after a few editors debated its status. I also added your final edit, changing nudistische beweging to naturistische beweging. Did you know that the first naturist leader in the USA (1930s-1960s), Ilsley Boone, was a retired pastor of the Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk? RGNU (talk) 02:20, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi there!
Perfect, good work! It's Kwiki by the way, kiwi's are from the other side of the world :-)
In English someone can hide in the trees (meaning either climbing in or hiding behind one or in between two trees). In Dutch you can either climb in the tree and hide there (verstoppen in de boom) or you hide amongst the trees (tussen de bomen verstoppen); thats why I asked.
The King James Bible says "amongst" which should be translated as "tussen de bomen" so the current version is correct. I am gonna try to improve the sources but that might be rather difficult.

Emo Rap

The emo dance of misery... RLY!

An example of a rapper who is (probably) not emo, just silly.

Hi Kwiki, I don't see what the attack was in Emo Rap. could you elucidate please? ϢereSpielChequers 22:28, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I admit it is not very obvious. Eyedea is a rapper. Kanye West is a R&B singer.
"Emo" is ment as an insult (among hiphoplisteners). These people don't belong to that lifestyle.
Eyedea is not an emo (google image search). He would probably feel insulted if I called him "emo".
If the author means emo rap as a genre then Eyedea and Eminem shouldn't be in the article. Emo means something else than "has written an emotional song but does not belong to the subculture" and we are not gonna list every rapper with an emotional song in that article.
There is an actual genre called emo rap, and that is a crossover between rap- and emo music but Eyedea and Eminem are not a part of it.

Thanks a lot WereSpielChequers! It is perfect now! Kwiki (talk) 23:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Emo Rap declined speedy

This looks like a real genre of music and the article does not appear to be an attack. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 22:28, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Please look at the reply to ϢereSpielChequers above. Kwiki (talk) 22:47, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Well then it needs to be deleted as a recreation, not an attack. I disagree with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emo rap. But a recreation is a recreation. Dlohcierekim 22:52, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Dlohcierekim for fixing this!
I found the article on deletopedia after my G10 was declined. I also disagree with that AfD you mention because the genre "emo rap" does exist (and I think it is possible to write an article about that, although non-emo rap artists like Eyedea should not be mentioned). Googling "emo rap" +eyedea or "emo rap" +eminem proves these artists are not part of the "emo rap" scene. Googling "emo rap" proves there is such a thing.
In the end it all worked out fine, the article emo rap is now a redirect to emo. In that article about the subculture anyone can write about crossovers to rapmusic.
I hope I explained correctly why I saw this as an attackpage.
Thanks again for your help!
Kwiki (talk) 23:32, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Both Eyedea & real "emo rap" can be found on Youtube. Kwiki (talk) 23:43, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
You seem to know the subject. Would you like me to move the deleted version to your userspace so that you can bring up to snuff? Cheers, Dlohcierekim 00:43, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

ROFL. I am sorry, I know about Eyedea & Eminem (and hiphopsubculture in general), not much about the emo subculture! :-) <POV-DONOTREADIFUREMO>I know enough about emo's to think about them like Eric Cartman does about hippies.</POV> You got me Laughing Out Loud though :P Kwiki (talk) 01:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

The new version no longer breaks pages and now fixes ones that it broke before. The hard part is finding the broken ones. There is already a built in updater. --Pascal666 06:05, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Well to be honest, that might be a problem, but its a small problem compared to breaking copyright laws. I think the best solutions is to use the rewritten articles as sources and just mention the fact they are rewritten and not the original articles. Kwiki (talk) 13:35, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello Joeyjoeyjojo!
Yep. It basically means I tried to help you by deleting nonsense. On the top of most pages on wiki there is a "history" tab. Click it to see a list of versions of that page. You can click the round optionboxes to select two versions and then click the "Compare selected revisions" button to see the difference between those versions of that page.
Please remember wikipedia is not your webhost. Also wikipedia is not a chatbox. Almost anything not geared towards producing an encyclopedia is a bad idea.
You might want to consider starting your own website, forum or blog. I recommend sites.google.com because it is incredibly easy, but if you want more advanced options you can take a look at wordpress.com.

The statement implies that jimbo is a drug addict, which is not true or an image to be supported. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 9k (talkcontribs) 15:12, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

LOL. Just to be clear; I live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. You might want to watch this video. Jimbo's name is used instead of "John Doe". In that example the pipe is offered to him, this does not automatically mean that he accepts it. The fact that something is offered to him does not "imply" he is an addict. Also, if the pipe is not filled with marihuana it is probably filled with tobacco. Tobacco smoke is a lot more dangerous to inhale than marihuana. If you want to you can ask Jimbo on his talkpage if he is offended by the fact he is offered something he possibly does not want. If he feels offended by this he can change it himself. Hi Mjroots!
Thanks for letting me know! I will research the problem. Greetings from Amsterdam, Kwiki (talk) 19:51, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
In AWB the typo correction regexp is:

<Typo word="(Out)Maneuver" find="\b(M|m|[Oo]utm)an(|o)(?:u|ue|e)ver(ed|s?|ing)\b" replace="$1an$2euver$3" />
<Typo word="(Un)Manoeuvrable" find="\b([Uu]nm|M|m)anouverable\b" replace="$1anoeuvrable" />

<Typo word="Maneuverable" find="\b(M|m)anoeuverab(ility|le)\b" replace="$1aneuverab$2" />
I think this last line is the source of the problem. Kwiki (talk) 20:19, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Rofl! Hi Drmies! Amsterdam doet de groeten terug :-) Vandals never sleep. What do you predict the score will be? Kwiki (talk) 04:06, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
So--you're a vandal? ;) Oh, I have some bad memories of games against Brazil (I'm old enough to remember 1994 very well) but in the spirit of things I'll be making poffertjes for some of my colleagues (the game starts at 8:30 AM here). Last time I threw an orange party for some folks here we played Russia... Mazzel, Drmies (talk) 04:14, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, no, but I may have a similar sleeping pattern ;-) Ah! Poffertjes! When I was young I always wanted poffertjes with fruitsalade and knakworst as birthdaydinner. May the best team win. Do you want me to Fed-ex you some stroopwafels? Groeten! Kwiki (talk) 04:35, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Hehe thanks for the offer. Whenever I bring stroopwafels from home my wife devours them immediately; this summer she had one fresh at the market, first time in her life. I'm going to suggest that b-day dinner to my daughter. For me, I think it was always patat met appelmoes. Hey! 2-1! We did it! Drmies (talk) 16:27, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

You've Been Vandalized! :o

Hello Kwiki. Just thought I would let you know I did a revert on your user page after 85.211.18.17 made [this edit] to your user page. --ANowlin: talk 23:22, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Greetings from Amsterdam! Kwiki (talk) 23:27, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Because you beat me to so many reverts on Igloo this evening. I was tempted to block you for annoying me so damn much, but I thought I'd settle for giving you a much-deserved barnstar! ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:15, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Dude... those sound amazing! Minemi (talk) 06:06, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Kinda funny considering your :User page... I'm a confirmed vandal and you seem quite likable; amiable in fact. Minemi (talk) 06:09, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, in real life we would probably like eachother, so can I ask you a favor, please stop vandalising Wikipedia. Thanks in advance, Kwiki (talk) 06:11, 19 July 2010 (UTC) (I am a certified crazy person BTW, thats why we get along nicely)
Yeah probably... well if it means that much to you fine, I'll stop. Just out of curiosity, why do you care about WP at all if you're a certified crazy person? 89.238.173.199 (talk) 06:22, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
BTW, cheerio from Manchester loves! 89.238.173.199 (talk) 06:22, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
First of all, much love from Amsterdam! Second: I do not, I repeat, DO NOT GIVE A FUCK about Wikipedia. Things I do care about include, but are not limited to, humans. Kwiki (talk) 06:25, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Jana Gana Mana

Greetings! As mentioned in the Jana Gana Mana discussion page, I have created a new article Jana Gana Mana (the complete song). I request you to go through the content.ThxSASSOTO (talk) 17:50, 24 July 2010 (UTC)SASSOTO

Hi SASSOTO! I think you can post a request for feedback. Greetings from Amsterdam! Kwiki (talk) 04:58, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Greetings! I have already done that, but I need someone to review and remove the "new article" template from the article. SASSOTO (talk)SASSOTO —Preceding undated comment added 07:54, 25 July 2010 (UTC).

I am sorry, I do not have the expertise necessary. Gtrz, Kwiki (talk) 14:42, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Home Swinger

Farmers

Impossible to translate in my silly little farmer language (Dutch). Kwiki

Superb quote.

Reminds me of a rhyme, in the thick accent of folks from the South-West of England - in their accent, it rhymes;

I never learned to read or write, but that don't really matter,
'coz I be from the West Country and I can drive a tractor

:-)  Chzz  ►  22:01, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Why?

No, really, I just want to know where the recent update stream is so that I can spend my time correcting vandalism by twelve year old kids. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.174.124.211 (talk) 06:02, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

I want a stroopwafel. Kwiki (talk) 06:03, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

How is that relevant? But really, what is your motivation for reverting vandalism? It is futile!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW8amMCVAJQ wikipedia is the movement Kwiki (talk) 06:05, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
once again, totally irrelevant. 173.174.124.211 (talk) 06:08, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
When you find a lone nut doing something great have the guts to be the first person to stand up, and join in. Jimbo Wales is probably a lone nut. Kwiki (talk) 06:09, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Come on man, just give up. Reverting vandalism is just annoying... Vandalism is fun! 173.174.124.211 (talk) 06:12, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
stroopwafels are fun. Since you like vandalism you are probably a "friend-of-a-gay" and you should therefore not be allowed to edit articles. Kwiki (talk) 06:14, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Hypnotherapy

I said I would try to look at this one, and I can only apologize that that was some months ago (around December, I think).

I did my best to remove a huge portion of unreferenced claims, and documented it on the talk page.

See Talk:Hypnotherapy#Removal_of_large_amount_of_text.

The only effective approach, when faced with an article in such a poor state, is to be quite ruthless in removing text.

If we could ensure that, if any information is added back, it has appropriate references - then, perhaps, the article might have a chance.

If you can help keep checks on that, that would be great.

Best,  Chzz  ►  17:19, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Chzz,
Wow! I love you! See how horrible that article was? Thanks a lot Chzz! Greetings from Amsterdam, Kwiki (talk) 17:44, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
It's still pretty bad; needs lots of work. But just maybe, now it isn't so horribly long and full of rubbish, others might be encouraged to work on it - one day. Maybe.
I live in hope. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  19:06, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
