Thanks
Thanks very much for the McGovern GA review/pass and barnstar! And yes, WP editors (including myself) do need to focus FA and GA efforts more on major subjects not obscurities. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:37, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- And myself too. -- Khazar2 (talk) 01:39, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Jefferson Davis infobox flag
I've reverted an unsourced infobox flag based on discussion page section documentation for the First National Flag with 13 stars from three sources -- up for two weeks without counter comment. Please let me know what your thoughts are, as I do not want to be disruptive, only scholarly. TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 08:11, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds like it won't be a problem, then. You might discuss it with the nominator and reviewer at Talk:Jefferson Davis/GA3 if you're concerned, though. (Retrolord sent you here by mistake; I'm not really involved in this article.) Thanks for your work, -- Khazar2 (talk) 11:43, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Problem
Do you think that you could look at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations#Blank Good Article review, but still passed?. As someone who is more experienced with Good Article reviews, I think that you might be able to help. Someone might need to take over the reviews, but I don't know how that would happen. SL93 (talk) 21:15, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like Pyrotec is on it. I don't know what's happening there, but let's wait and see if a proper review is done this time. Thanks for the catch. -- Khazar2 (talk) 22:10, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- Alright. I will have to contact the bot owner. It keeps adding two articles with the same reviewer as "on review" every 10 minutes. SL93 (talk) 22:14, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, the bot seems to do that with some nomination or another at least once a week. I have no idea what trips it. -- Khazar2 (talk) 22:18, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Elkins v. United States
Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Elkins v. United States you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Your GA nomination of Elkins v. United States
The article Elkins v. United States you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Elkins v. United States for comments about the article. Well done! Message delivered by GA bot, on behalf of GregJackP -- GregJackP (talk) 16:47, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
When are you planning on getting back to the review? I wouldn't ask, but another editor, who has nothing to do with the article, posted on the Good Article review. Whether or not that is allowed, the editor is saying that IMDb is likely not reliable and that I should use the VHS or DVD as the source. SL93 (talk) 18:44, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's definitely allowed and even encouraged. Don't worry, I'm the only one who can make a final decision on the GA review (though others are welcome to appeal). I hope to finish this one off tonight or tomorrow. -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:57, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Alright. Though I hope it doesn't become a problem. I will likely not respond to anymore comments by that editor, just because that editor only edits R. L. Stine articles which may cause a problem whether intentional or not. SL93 (talk) 19:00, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

One Day at HorrorLand Good Article review
Thanks for reviewing the article. It is my second Good Article after S&Man which was originally quick-failed in November 2011 and passed in April 2012. SL93 (talk) 17:39, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Congrats--I hope there'll be many more. I notice that the very heavily trafficked main article Goosebumps still needs to get to GA, calling out for an editor like you... -- Khazar2 (talk) 17:41, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- Possibly. I have The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It currently nominated for Good Article status. I also plan on expanding Mostly Ghostly: Who Let the Ghosts Out?, but I don't know if I plan on going for Good Article status with that one. SL93 (talk) 17:44, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

A cheeseburger for you!
I might not agree with Tony here, but you are definitely a true non-partisan in this. Sorry to take you away from article space (that being said, wish you were at HK!) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:17, 16 August 2013 (UTC) |
- Delicious, thanks! Obviously I get where you're coming from even if I technically voted against your proposal. There seems to be widespread consensus (with which I agree) that Tony needs to relax his grip on that project, and it's just a question of how that happens (deletion/RfC/administrative action). I hope it all gets reasonably resolved soon, and thanks for your efforts to hammer in a little sense to that page... -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:24, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Fingers crossed that something works. Anyways, say hi to everyone back in the US! I had my first bacon in three years last week, and miss it already. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:31, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yah, I do wish I could have made Hong Kong with y'all, it sounds like a great time. I don't think I got a chance to tell you yet that Mrs. Khazar and I bought a house this week in the same neighborhood where I grew up. It still needs to clear a few inspections for the purchase to be finalized, but we're super-excited... -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:35, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Another GAN
I've nominated for myself and FriendlyRiverOtter, Regents of the University of California v. Bakke at GAN. Would you have any interest in doing the review?--Wehwalt (talk) 02:43, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to. As it happens, I was just reading about this case a month or two "bakke" when writing about the 14th Amendment. -- Khazar2 (talk) 02:51, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I thought you'd at least be familiar with the ballpark, that's even better. It's probably still a little rough because I just got done with the prose, and it always needs a little polishing.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:57, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Interesting concept
Saw this and thought of you: List of journalists killed in Mexico. If you liked your first FL excursion, something like this would be right up your alley. List of journalists killed in Afghanistan through List of journalists killed in Zimbabwe? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's an interesting idea--I might have to tackle that someday. -- Khazar2 (talk) 11:12, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Premature RFC
You have jumped the gun on the RFC. I am waiting until we have an understanding of all eligible articles. The process of category creation is about 90% complete by my estimation. It would be more helpful to certain elements of the discussion if we waited until the Category of articles is complete. Also, it would make more sense to hold the RFC after the MFD is complete.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/WP:FOUR/WP:CHICAGO/WP:WAWARD) 16:42, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm one hundred percent behind you, Khazar. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:47, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Good Article
I took your advice and I will see what I can do with Goosebumps. There is a lot of good content and sources already there as well, but the reference formatting on many of those are wrong. SL93 (talk) 18:01, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, that's great news! That'd be a terrific one to get to GA, and gets crazy amounts of traffic; you might end up being one of the first recipients of my proposed new award. Good luck, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help. -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:07, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- I noticed that award from reading the Good Article nominations talk page. It sounds like a great idea. SL93 (talk) 18:12, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm trying to figure out what content, that is currently in the article, I should expand on. The Achievements, reception and controversy section seems to have enough content, except for the Book challenges subsection which I am working on. I'm not sure how much content there should be for the series spin-offs that already have articles and the video games which already have articles. There is also Goosebumps (video game series). The Inspiration and themes section definitely needs expansion.SL93 (talk) 20:09, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- My suggestion would be to imagine it as a stand-alone article even if more detailed subarticles exist. But the videogames, etc., have presumably gotten less attention than the core book series, so it's probably enough to just mention their existence in passing. -- Khazar2 (talk) 22:19, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- That sounds good. I was basing it on the 2011 peer review where an editor was concerned about the articles having different details among the articles, which would make them inconsistent. SL93 (talk) 22:25, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Giving another editor credit as well
Well, I combined the series subsections in the Goosebumps article because they already have articles and they are not the original series. Once I expand the Inspiration and themes section, expand the Book challenges section, and make sure that everything in the article is referenced correctly, I will nominate this for Good Article status. As a fan of the series since I was a kid and reading about the series since then, I can tell that there isn't much more to write without going into unnecessary detail. The reason for much work not needing to be done is because of Fearstreetsaga's attempt to bring this to Good Article status, but I don't know why the editor stopped when they were so close. The article was short before the editor got to it in 2010. Even though it was in 2010 and 2011 by that editor, they did the most work so they would need recognition also if it passes the Good Article review. SL93 (talk) 22:13, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Cool, we'll have to make sure to barnstar her/him if the article goes through. I'm glad you noticed that. -- Khazar2 (talk) 22:15, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

International emergency medicine FAC
Hello again. I'm AmericanLemming, and I copy-edited Jelena Balšić in late April/early May when you were reviewing it for GA status. Anyway, after that c/e you said you owed me one, so here's an opportunity to do so. I've got an article up at FAC, but only one editor has offered any comments so far. Those have improved the article tremendously, but I think the article could stand being looked at by another pair of eyes, too. I've read through the article too many times for me to see anything else to fix, and the other editor has already read through it twice.
Anyway, I know that you are more into GA reviews than FA ones, so if you want to pass it up, that's fine. In that case I'll just ping you when I do my first GA review or second GAN, whichever comes first. AmericanLemming (talk) 18:50, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, I'd be glad to take a look. I'm not familiar enough with the FA process to be comfortable giving a support/oppose vote, but will be glad to give it a thorough check and see if I can make any suggestions in that review. Will probably get to this Monday or Wednesday; feel free to ping me again if I manage to forget! -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:56, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Prior thanks
Sorry. The prior prose should have read something like "On behalf of WP:CHICAGO, thanks for your editorial contributions to Helen Shiller, which has recently become a WP:GA." I got mixed up with which thanks were for my own articles and which were for those that contribute to WP:CHICAGO. Not all reviewers actually get their hands dirty. My thanks go out to most editors with at least 5 or 10 edits on anything that becomes GA, FA, or FL for WP:CHICAGO. I apologize if this offends you. I've never forgot to add the WP:CHICAGO part before. I have also never had one declined to my face before. Sorry to see you in such a bad mood.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:49, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- If you're sincere in wanting to thank me for my contributions to Wikipedia, a better step would be to go to the 100+ talk pages you've just made allegations about me on and retract your comments. Spreading accusations that widely while also giving me a userbox for a few trivial edits I made months ago is just... bizarre. We'll work together again someday with no hard feelings, Tony, but let's try to take at least a few weeks' break from interacting until your Reichstag climb is done. -- Khazar2 (talk) 20:38, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

- I seem to have lost appreciation-sending functionality :/ so this is the ORIGINAL BARNSTAR for valuable and sustained work on Auschwitz concentration camp. A true Wikipedian. Cheers! Irondome (talk) 23:22, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

- Khazar, you... you... deserve a puppy to spare you from staring down the unfathomable depths and hellfire that is the human soul and walking back to tell us about it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:29, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well said. Irondome (talk) 23:31, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ha, thanks-- I can use it! I'm definitely looking forward to crossing Auschwitz and Holocaust off of my list and moving on to the bureaucracy of United Nations... -- Khazar2 (talk) 23:36, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- UN? Wow. That's gonna be an uphill battle. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:39, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- The talk page is actually surprisingly bare of controversy, this year anyway. We'll see what happens when I start shaking things up, but I'm hoping it won't be too bad compared to the Holocaust, which seems to be a magnet for single-purpose editors wanting more on Poles, more on homosexuals in Belgium, more comparison with the Holodomor, etc. etc. I don't mean to disparage those topics, but the Holocaust article has ended up as one of the longest articles on Wikipedia--something like 130kb of readable prose--because nobody's willing to cut. It's going to be tough to talk editors there into cutting the article by 50%.
- Hence I'm doing Auschwitz as a "warm-up" even though Holocaust is technically next on my list. -- Khazar2 (talk) 23:44, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- And actually very relevant subjects to each other. Historically and in terms of moral and international law development. In theory anyway. Irondome (talk) 23:52, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Y'know, I hadn't thought of that, but that's a really good point--one quite directly contributed to the next. Makes my goals seem much more systematic than they actually are... -- Khazar2 (talk) 23:56, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Dunno if you have been hearing the reports coming out of Syria in past few hours, but it is looking like the biggest chemical attack since Halabja. History is a living relevant thing, and the UN a great next choice. Irondome (talk) 00:06, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Great idea thinking of the WP:Million Award!! Sadly few people appear to recognize the importance of getting very high traffic and important articles up to GA or FA and most major efforts go unrewarded. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:08, 28 August 2013 (UTC) |
- Thanks! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- All we need now is some sort of article competition mechanism which motivates more editors to work on developing core topics to GA and beyond. Our top 1000 articles by traffic at least should be GAs, although I understand that this can vary month by month with topical events but those which consistently get over 10,000 hits a day or over a million hits a year are really a priority.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:12, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, something like that would be a help. Those articles are so much more involved to write (Texas vs. Texas Rural Road 109) that I can understand why most users avoid them. But it is disappointing how many high-traffic articles, even on unquestionably academic topics, still aren't developed to GA level or beyond. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:18, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

- On it. Though you're welcome to give the award at any point if you see a worthy recipient; my search for qualifying articles isn't comprehensive yet, and my aim is for it to stop being a one-man show now that it's out of user space. You might check WP Indonesia/Popular Pages (if there is one, I know some projects have them and some don't) to see if anything else in that field qualifies for any of the three tiers. A top tier award can go in the HoF, too. -- Khazar2 (talk) 11:58, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, alright. Thanks. Will check, though I don't think most of Wikipedia:WikiProject Indonesia/Popular pages even reaches 500k. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:04, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- I think very few in any WikiProject (except maybe Film and Television) do. WikiProject Human rights has only about 10-15 potential qualifying articles for the top tier, perhaps 50-100 for the bottom two tiers. But probably a few will qualify for at least the half mill or quarter mill level. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:07, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Fair point. How's about former FAs? Give the award? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:11, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's a tough call that I hadn't really thought about yet--what do you think? My first thought is that unless it was delisted almost immediately, or was delisted for massive problems (copyvio, misrepresentation of sources, etc.) they still deserve it. But it's probably something to determine on a case-by-case basis. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:14, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm tempted to award it in this case as the article held for 2 years, but I don't think we want to have to hunt through all of the old FAs (a lot of very general articles were brought to FA in the "brilliant prose" phase, after all) as it wouldn't be fair to compare something from 2013 with 2005 — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:18, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'd say that could go either way. But I don't intend the award's rules to ever be fully consistent, to be honest. To me it's more like a barnstar than the WikiCup, so if you feel like making an exception or an article particularly merits it, it's up to you. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:21, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

More Millions
Hi, thanks for the Millions awards, and for coming up with this idea. I like it ... But how to handle something like Mitt Romney, which as nominator I got to FA on November 2 of last year, four days before the U.S. general election. (An FA assist would definitely go to Anythingyouwant.) It got over 2,400,000 views that very month (with most coming on November 5-8). Since then it has been declining, with 215,000 views in December 2012 steadily decreasing to 70,000 views in July 2013. It is likely to continue to decrease unless Romney takes on some position that gets him more in the news. So it was a "Million" then but won't be on an ongoing basis. But as you can see from the nomination, I did the FA push with the express idea of showing WP can handle the most high-profile articles at the highest level, which would seem to be in the spirit of the Million award. Wasted Time R (talk) 11:36, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's an unusual case, but you're right that it's also exactly the kind of achievement I hope to recognize with this award. And despite declining traffic, it's not as if Mitt Romney will ever cease to be a topic for scholars (I actually just worked on Alton B. Parker a few months back). I'll add it to the HoF later today--thanks for pointing it out, and thanks again for all your contributions on high-traffic politicians. -- Khazar2 (talk) 11:43, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for adding it. Four candidates for the Half Million award:
I got Sonia Sotomayor to GA in 2009. In the last 12 months (September 2012 to August 2013) it has about 782,000 views, with seasonal highs and lows depending upon whether the Supreme Court is hearing or ruling on cases (a pattern that will hold for years to come). It got a spike in January 2013 when she published her memoir but it would still be over the half million mark even without that.
I got Tony Bennett to GA in 2009. In the last 12 months it has about 777,000 views, with highs when he is releasing new music or otherwise in the news (a typical ongoing pattern for any performing artist). It got a spike in February 2013 for some reason I'm not sure of but it would still be over the half million mark even without that.
More problematic may be Jill Biden, which I got to GA in 2009. In the last 12 months it has about 537,000 views, but most of that came during the campaign last year and the inauguration in January. Her run rate since then is typically 13,000 views a month. On the other hand, you could say that when attention is paid to her, WP is ready with a good article ...
A more extreme case is Ann Romney, which I got to GA in 2010. In the last 12 months it has about 960,000 views, but 839,000 of those come in September-November 2012. Once the election was over, viewership fell to 12,000 or less views per month. But again, when someone was heavily in the news, WP was ready with a good article ... - Started today on the article for WTR's Governor.Anythingyouwant (talk) 03:54, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
- Nice! If you get that to GA or FA, give me a ping--I'd be surprised if he doesn't pull at least a half million views a year. -- Khazar2 (talk) 14:47, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

ANN7 article - needs review
Hey! I've spent the last few days writing the article on South Africa's newest 24 hour news channel, ANN7, which as you probably know has been the target of a lot of controversy and criticism (the channel that is, not my article).
I am seeking editors to review the work, and also perhaps to look at it from a more neutral perspective (my concern is that, as I'm responding to the changing events reported in the media, my writing may have taken on a non NPOV tone). So basically, hoping to outline the points around the news channel that make it article-worthy (its controversy) without appearing biased (as I attempted to do when I wrote The Spear article last year.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

re: Readership
I've got two over a half million definitely... In Flanders Fields squeaks over the line (507k from Sep-12 to Aug-13) and Terry Fox, which was near 700k in the same period. A good chunk of my work relates to obscure old hockey Hall of Famers that might be worthy of a 250, 500 or 1000 award... no extra zeros. ;) I keep meaning to bring Calgary to GA, and that would be worth a full million... someday. Incidentally, watching recent FA and GA additions for newly promoted articles would be beneficial as well. I might try helping tith that from time to time, but I know it's something I'd never do regularly, however. Cheers! Resolute 19:36, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Article Feedback Tool update
Hey Khazar2. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.
We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.
Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:43, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Million Award for images
Thanks for the beer and compliments, Khazar2. I've been wondering if you have (or would be interested to compile) statistics on popular illustrations, maps, photographs etc and requests for them, similar to your Million Award for articles.
I am inclined to produce graphics explaining particular concepts (especially those related to science, technology, maths and architecture) but it's difficult to tell what's worth illustrating.
I understand that Commons has an Illustration Workshop but it does not list impact factors.
Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks, cmɢʟee⎆τaʟκ 12:40, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- I actually don't know how statistics on images would be gathered, unfortunately. As far as articles that need illustration, you might just start looking through the Most Popular Pages for WikiProjects like Math and Science and see if any suit your fancy and appear to need illustration. Good luck! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. -- Khazar2 (talk) 16:54, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Passed GA!. If you're interested in adding themes, you might find the deleted section useful to build upon. I think with a bit of work it actually has FA potential.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:19, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, congrats! My film books are all in boxes at the moment (we're moving house) but I might see next month if there's anything I can add. -- Khazar2 (talk) 16:06, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for September 19
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Warrant (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

- P.S. Regarding this potential five-year goal, I'd love to help in any way I can. I won't have any bandwidth until next week, but seriously, keep in touch and let me know if there's anything I can do. – Quadell (talk) 17:15, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
- Ha, thanks! And I'll definitely keep that offer in mind. There's some monstrously general articles on there--family, democracy, marriage, racism, disability--that will probably require a team. -- Khazar2 (talk) 17:20, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
