Francis Giraud translation into English

Please help me understand this. I ran across the English Francis Giraud, and it's nothing but a one-sentence stub. The French Wikipedia: Francis Giraud (although I don't read French) is listed as the corresponding article, and seems to have a more fleshed out biography. When I put this up for translation, you deleted the request as "Nothing to translate". Please help me understand what happened here. WP:PNT is where articles are listed if somebody has created them on the English Wikipedia in a non-english language, it's is not the place for requesting translations from other Wikipedia. RE: the deletion of the Uskana 2013 article

i wanted to briefly explain that the "Uskana 2013" is a civic initiative of a community from the city of Kicevo in Macedonia. the page was meant to briefly present the nature of the initiative and it's activities. Nonetheless, it was published by mistake in the english subpages, while the content was in albanian. And i wasn't able to change to the albanian subpages.Voice13 (talk) 09:15, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

You also need to restore the redirects that have been lost as a result of your actions. Please feel free to add additional content and sources as you feel appropriate. Here's a Google Books search result for Fanny Buitrago http://www.google.com/search?q=fanny+buitrago+&tbm=bks&tbo=1. You'll notice that she is covered in several encyclopedias of literature and easily warrants inclusion. Arias is also notable as you'd have realized had you been more diligent in your administrative actions.
Thank you for helping get these back up so they can be improved and expanded. I'd prefer to spend my time doing constructive work on the encyclopedia rather than discussing errant and unconcstructive actions such as yours. So in the future I hope you'll just ask if you have any questions or suggestions for me, or are concerned about whether a subject is notable. Even if I don't agree to do things your way, it's certainly inappropriate for you to violate the rules and delete articles when you aren't happy with how complete they are when created. Because of your improper actions I have no way of making improvements and am instead wasting my time here. If you don't like the way I do things then it's best to ignore my work and focus elsewhere. Hi my name is Nikki Harkin, you appear to have deleted mine and Charlotte Murphy's pages about the Papez Circuit, we followed the deletion link and it told us that it is because we are non-existing users, we have had the email sent to us about verifying our accounts and we have both done that, so we were wondering how we are supposed to become 'existing' users? I am asking you this because we are both university students and as part of one our modules we are to take part in the APS's Wikipedia initiative and substantially edit a page and we are to be assessed on this (which if our page has been deleted we can't be assessed on it) Please can you help us, it would be very much appreciated! To clarify then, your user name is User:Charlotte Murphy. Any subpage you create of that must therefore begin User:Charlotte Murphy/ followed by the name of the sandbox page. If you use something different, for example User:Charlotte+Murphy, the system will believe the subpage belongs to a user called Charlotte+Murphy, since no such user exists the page is therefore "ownerless"--Jac16888 Talk 21:09, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I didn't add a plus sign when typing the page name, all i did was click on my sand box and copy an assignment i had been working on into it. I have no idea how to create a new sandbox without a plus sign in it, when i look through the APS wikipedia initiative website it appears my name is Charlotte+Murphy, however if i just sign in straight to wikipedia i do not have this problem. I honestly don't see how I can explain this any clearer. You created User:Charlotte+Murphy/sandbox, which is the page I deleted, and which will now need to be deleted again. You also created User:Charlotte Murphy/sandbox is the page i left. Can you see the difference? That's all there is to it. If you want to create another sandbox all you need to do is type "User:Charlotte Murphy/example name" into the search box, and when it says page not found, click "start the page"--Jac16888 Talk 18:16, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) You are obviously referring to this discussion. And I have to say that your behaviour here is not very helpful and friendly either. It has been explained to you multiple times that it is generally not possible to remove the log entry about a deleted site from our servers, and also your last attempt to delete a discussion about it is still archived and you have been told that it will presumably remain visible for quite a long time. That said, I agree with the user Astronaut who commented: "With many people clamouring FOR a Wikipedia article, it is not encouraging that when one is written and then deleted, the author (or maybe the subject) of the article then complains that it is insulting that they can still find a trace of the deletion. If they had taken the time to improve the article, I'm sure they wouldn't now be here complaining." By they way, modifying other editor's main user pages as you did here is against WP:Wikipedia policy. I would advise you to let this case rest. I don't agree, either that "the way to do so is to add more names" (which would simply result in an over-long list) or that "the idea behind these lists has always been..." No, it hasn't. The idea is to include a representative sample of events, births, deaths, etc. What the article definitely should not become is a list of every American ever born on this date who happens to have a wikipedia article. It's true that my judgement is subjective, but then so is yours. I made a point of removing British people who are very little known in the UK, even though they may satisfy the wikipedia criteria for having an article about them. I wish I were better equipped to do the same for the US entries, but at least I have a good idea which of them are internationally-known. And I'll go so far as to say that, if a person's wikipedia article has been tagged for notability or lack of references, they definitely should not be included in any year or date article. If the notability of the subject is in doubt, then nominate it for deletion. Yes, I believe they should. I believe this to be the best option, because there is no way to have a "representative sample" of people born that day. You can't choose the "most notable" from every profession, or the "most notable" overall, or one randomly from every country or any other such method, it's simply unfeasible. The simple fact is this, it has long being the case with these articles that the only criteria for inclusion is to have an article. If you believe this needs to change then you need to seek consensus to change the way these articles are handled cross wiki, consensus which you do not currently have. Sorry, but I think your suggested solution is totally impracticable and I'm not aware of any policy that suggests differently. We'll I've yet to see you suggest a better solution other than removing the people you personally believe to be lesser known, including apparently the star of some dozen movies and 7 years of an internationally known tv show. The policy that applies is WP:NOTABILITY, as I've already said we do not have levels of notability, either they have an article or they don't, and the same applies to these lists, as it has done for years. I'm pretty sure I explained above that I'm not necessarily au fait with the relative notability of US celebrities. Ask 100 people in the UK and I doubt you'll find one who's heard of him, but of course that doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the list - by all means, put him back. It doesn't follow that every minor American personality should be listed. Clearing the decks a bit is, I think, a good way to proceed, since what tends to happen is that newcomers see a list of minor celebrities and think "Oh, that person's in there. I'll put my favourite TV presenter/actor/baseball player in there as well." The lists have not always been like this nor were they ever meant to be a full list of every US person who is moderately well-known. I am from the UK, I just don't let it have any bearing on my editing. Evan Almighty? Keira Knightleys latest film? Or you only need to watch Dave for an hour or so to see an advert for The Office (US). And all you did was prove my point, (As well as ignoring my actual comment) your viewpoint is entirely your own, by attempting to remove an American bias, you have just added your own. I never said or suggested that you were American. I still stand by my comments above. I know that if I went out into my workplace and asked 100 people "Who is Steve Carell?" the huge majority of them would have absolutely no idea. The real problem is what's sometimes known as "recentism". See WP:10YT. You only have to look at the list to see that. For 16 August deaths, we've got:
  • one entry each for 1991-1993
  • one for 1995
  • one for 1997
  • three for 2002 (approximately when wikipedia took off)
  • one for 2003
  • three for 2004
  • six for 2005
  • three for 2006
  • three for 2007
  • four for 2008
  • two for 2010
  • nine for 2012
Looking at the births for August 15, you get the skewed nationality bias as well, because most of the later births are celebrities from the world of sport or entertainment. So you've got:
  • three for 1981, 2 of them American
  • four for 1982, 3 of them American
  • one for 1983
  • one for 1984 (American)
  • four for 1985, one of them British (and known only for her role in a teen soap)
  • one for 1986 (British)
  • one for 1987
  • two for 1988
  • three for 1989, 2 of them American
  • four for 1990, 1 of them American
Yes, okay, maybe many of these are well known to young people in the UK and the USA, and you could argue that this is appropriate because these are the people who mostly consult wikipedia. But do they really consult wikipedia to find out what they already know? In fact, of the 217 births listed (quick manual count) for 15 August, 132 are for people who are still alive! I think we should address this issue and try to get a better mix. I've already agreed with you that it's difficult to do, but we could at least attempt to achieve some level of consistency. What is your criterion (btw pointing out grammatical errors is hardly the way to win an argument) that can be applied cross wiki, to every similar article, that defines who and what can be included in these lists, in a way that is neutral and not time/location biased, bearing in mind this would need to be applied to at least 365 articles (if not more if you wanted to include various types year articles) and that it would need to be rigously policed to prevent people being inconsiderate and wanting to help by adding a missing name?--Jac16888 Talk 18:51, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Respected Sir, First of all thank you for responding to my request.... You have said the right thing that Pedia is not a travel guide. But after going through the pages 'Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple' and 'Kashi Vishwanath Temple' on wikipedia, wherein the pictures of adjacent street view, picture of 'Gyanvapi well', which according to the hindu mythology the sink of original lord Kashi Vishwanath, I thought of adding only the related and relevant pictures on the web. The fact is: even tough we say that it is a myth, we can actually see the chipped off main deity and the resemblance between the main deity and its incarnations which are mentioned on the page. Definitely there is a big history behind it and my aim was to bring forward the truth in short so that people will study the fact in more depth and will modify the page accordingly. My aim is surely not to project this page as a travel guide sir. Even I have documentary evidences for the stuff. One major reference I have already added in the reference list at No:13, which is a running publication here in Indian region called as Western Maharashtra and I will definitely add similar other references as well. I assure you that the stuff added on the page will help he concerned people to study the History in depth and I am sure that with more documentary evidences coming up, the page will get improved content wise. If you find it suitable, Big picture in Devnagari script at the end added in section 'Vyadeshwar Mantra' can be removed but it would be better if we retain the so called 'Vyadeshwar aarti' picture on the page. It has 'Audio' evidence that is added on same page. The chanting is done everyday minimum three times in the temple and I have actually recorded it. You will find similar devnagari script pictures on number of other informative pages e.g 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vithoba_Punadalik_Tukaram_Dnyaneshwar.jpg' picture on the wiki page 'Maharashtra' or page on god 'Vithoba' So you please suggest what you find suitable, but it would be better if you retain the stuff. It would be helpful for the further study in this connection. Sorry for consuming your precious time. Heya: You deleted this A1. I agree it's not encyclopedic: it's essayistic, chunks of it are in note form, and it breaks off with "to be continued". Also it's not a good idea when posting to the wrong-language Wikipedia to dispense with all accents and apostrophes, it flummoxes Google Translate. However, it's not that short, and the second sentence actually is a claim of notability. The topic is random flux generation. I don't have the scientific knowledge to judge how well we cover that - the editor is taking the tack that this is important to economics. But I don't think it's A1 and I think it might have been better to let the Pages Needing Translation into English folks judge it in case we do lack mention of the (sub)topic. Hopefully the editor will finish drafting it and then submit it at fr. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:34, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

You don't seem to have grasped the problem here. You copied the content from his website. This is a copyright violation, i.e. it is breaking the law. So, in your subjective opinion, the fact that Mr. Trumbull worked his way through Junior College is not worthy of inclusion on his Wiki page? Or is my edit just too smarmy for your taste?

Do these qualify as VERIFIABLE REFERENCES in your subjective opinion:

Douglas Trumbull went to college intending to be an architect, but switched his major to illustration at El Camino College in Torrance, California.

Douglas Trumbull, the man who created the special effects for 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner, is a graduate of El Camino.

Must of the people who witnessed Doug working at G & M Electric, Co., Inc. in the early '60's are dead now, so I'm not sure how that fact might be verified today. Regardless, none of them would qualify as NOTABLE under the Wikipedia definition. However, Doug's first wife, Cherry Trumbull nee Foster, would certainly recall that fact. But she's only an attorney, so she wouldn't be considered a notable source either, would she?

(As an aside, Before they were married, Doug once wrote Cherry a G & M Electric Co., Inc. check in the amount of $1,000,000.00, presumably as a prank. A neighbor discovered the check outside her home, and delivered it to G & M. Doug was a creative guy...)

While I can appreciate the Wiki requirement for notable sources for verification of facts, you must also admit that it inhibits a significant amount of valid information from being included in Wikipedia.

Did I say that the fact he went to college is irrelevant? What I'm trying to tell you, what you are refusing to accept, is that a overly biased and fluffy recollection from a childhood friend is not encyclopedic content. If you want to add to the early life section that Douglas went to x school and worked at y place, then by all means go ahead. Provided you can do so in a neutral tone and support it with reliable, 3rd party references, i.e. not people claiming to be old friends (I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm saying that there is no way to prove you are telling the truth and as such do not constitute a reliable reference), broken links or word documents that could have been written by anybody. I've said it before but to reiterate, this is an encyclopedia article, not a magazine piece. WHAT I have been trying to tell you is that they are not exactly QUOTES-more like title-cards. That is why we need to discuss this. Pretty much all of Europe, North Africa and East Asia had foreign military bases in them during WW2. Nuance. In the source of U.S. military bases abroad are considered in the historical aspect of the Cold War and the modern aspect (and is being reviewed in the historical dynamics), and the Russian military bases abroad are considered together with the military bases of the Soviet Union. To make an article live you need to move it to the group titled "(article)" in the dropdown box - the Wikipedia group is for the various behind the scenes pages/policies/noticeboards etc. However if you were to move User:PERTTEST/sandbox to the mainspace now it would most likely be deleted shortly afterwards. Two key Wikipedia policies for articles are that they must be notable - i.e. they must have gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time, and that this must be shown through the use of reliable, 3rd party references. I also note that the article seems to focus mostly on the particulars of the test itself - more important is the background/history, usage and real-world impact of the test. As this is the first year of true implementation, statistical data is still being collected. Hi, I see you deleted the page "Enka tónlist" earlier this month (March 11th) - and know why you did (it should have been at is.wikipedia.org not en.wikipedia.org as it was in Icelandic). The question is where i could find the article, so as to move to its right place? The article was made as a part of a high school project in enriching the icelandic wikipedia and I´m afraid my student made a mistake in where is uploaded the article. Hopefully the text can be salvaged and moved - both to enrich the Icelandic wikipedia which lacks information on Enka music and so the student can get some sort of grade for her effort. But we did not infringe copyright, because the page http://cms.ua.pt/TRACER/ is in fact my page. I have to disagree about effort. Hi, I don't think I quite understand the distinction. Wikipedia contains bibliographies and discographies. How is a listing of art produced in puzzle format any different than a listing of books or songs or paintings produced? All are catalogues of creative works by an artist. If the problem is that it is on the main page for the artist, I agree that might not be the best place. Do you think it would be appropriate to catalogue the works on a separate page? Or are you saying that someone needs to create a page outside of wikipedia and just add the link to the reference section? I know someone who is working on such a page.

An external page would be much more sensible. The best comparision I could make is to something like a newspaper journalist or a comic book writer - people who release hundreds upon upon hundreds of items that are notable individually, we don't list every single newspaper article/comic, instead we just say that person x has written for newspaper x and comic y and if there happen to be particuarly notable releases (such as article z led to a riot in country p) then they can be mentioned as well--Jac16888 Talk 17:29, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
