File:S.M.I.L.A by Alexander Ozolin .mp3

Last time this file has repeatedly tagged with {{non-free use rationale}} missing. The file is actually non-free, extracted from television channel "Novyi Kanal". It is believed that the producer of this file is this channel. But at glance, it's seems there is missing with copyrights holder. I write this file like other media files contextually within Wikipedia, and appropriately tagged its fair use under Non-free use rationale guideline. I'm not your bro. The first is at Draft:Dard Ka Rishta (TV series), which is not deleted. The second has been at Chandan Madan (Indian Television Actor), Chandan Madan (actor), and Draft:Chandan Madan (actor), none of which I have deleted. — JJMC89 02:45, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Gallup Independent

Twice now, this bot is claiming that File:GallupIndependent-01-31-2020.png does not have a vlid FUR. However, it does. This newspaper front-page image for the infobox uses the same valid FUR as used for essentially every other newspaper front-page image for their infoboxes. If something, regardless, is still missing, kindly please discuss.--Tenebrae (talk) 19:14, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Tenebrae: the issue is not the rationale but the fact the image is not currently used in any capacity on Wikipedia. The fair use rationale would only apply if we are using the image in an article. Once you have placed the image in the desired article then the bot will stop tagging it as an unused fair use image. We can’t store these images if they aren’t being used. McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 19:20, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
It was used in Independent (New Mexico newspaper). See: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Independent_(New_Mexico_newspaper)&oldid=991609156. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:10, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
It doesn't have a valid NFUR. The current NFUR is for Newsday, not Independent (New Mexico newspaper), which is where you are trying to use it. — JJMC89 02:48, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Software

Hello, JJMC89. Would you mind telling me what editing tools (e.g., WP:WikEd) you're using? This diff, while welcome in its contents, had an unusual set of whitespace changes. It's what the devs call a "dirty diff" – nothing exactly wrong, just not something people would usually do on purpose. (Please ping me.) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 23:36, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Whatamidoing (WMF): I'm using WikEd, which converted non-breaking spaces to their HTML entity,  . I then changed them to normal spaces since non-breaking ones weren't needed. — JJMC89 02:54, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Cacycle knows about the nbsp situation in WikEd. I think that I tend to accidentally type non-breaking spaces. (It's easy to do on a Mac, and my laptop's keyboard needs to be replaced because some of the keys are 'sticky'.) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:44, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

Ahmed Yusuf

Thank you for taking on the formidable task of straightening out the mess that became, after you fixed it up, Ahmed Yusuf. It was so messy I couldn't figure out what to ask for in terms of a completely-correct history split-and-merge. Another editor had already asked for a history-split, I added some links to the history-split template that I hope helped. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:34, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

No problem. Having extra details in the non-straightforward cases is helpful. — JJMC89 03:19, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Resizing images

Hi! I got some comments from your bot about resizing images. I'm not that experienced with uploading images to Wikipedia and I got another comment even after resizing. Could you tell me what is an ideal/safe image size? I couldn't find that information on WP:IMAGERES. My question is specifically for film/tv posters with non-free use, which I understand should be uploaded in a low resolution but I couldn't find what resolution that could be. Thanks in advance.Wikiabitbetter (talk) 01:19, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

@Wikiabitbetter: From WP:IMAGERES: about 100,000 pixels (0.1 megapixels), obtained by multiplying the horizontal and vertical pixel dimensions of an image — JJMC89 04:24, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

New task for JJMC89 bot

Hey J, hoping I could ask a favor: having the bot add the {{Drafts moved from mainspace}} template to every draftificaiton is really great; would it also be possible for the bot simultaneously to comment out all of the categories the draft falls into? If the draftifyer moves the page without using the draftify script, we need to go back separately and run a script to comment out the categories, which is a big task. Let me know, and thanks, UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:24, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

DannyS712 bot should already be doing this. — JJMC89 04:26, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Routemap collapsible help

Hi, I see that you regularly contribute to Routemap templates and I was wondering if you could give be a hand with something. Template:Central Australia Railway RDT was my first attempt at using collapsible elements but I had trouble keeping the elements aligned. I'm looking to use collabsible elements more in future and if you could help me find out where I went wrong it would be much appreciated! Shikhar Srivastav(a)

I see you deleted Draft:Shikhar Srivastava (created by User:Shikhar Actor) as an A13 on 4 October 2019. Shikhar Srivastav has now been created and BLP-PRODded, but contains embedded footnote numbers. I see a Shikhar Srivastava article was speedied three times in 2010 and 2015 and then deleted in January this year by Missvain after an AfD with little participation. Is the current version the same as either the deleted draft or the article deleted at AfD? If the former, it should probably have its references put in and be de-PRODded, but the pronunciation is for another name (Vicky Kaushal), so I'm doubtful. If the latter, it should probably be speedied accordingly (was that G4? I have a terrible memory). Yngvadottir (talk) 21:52, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

@Yngvadottir: The new article is not similar to any of the five deleted versions, and it has more content. Two references ([1][2]) from one of the deleted versions might be useful. — JJMC89 04:48, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! I was busy all day with Yahoogroups business, and have now done what I can. I found another source at the Boxer film article, but most of the article was unsourceable and plainly based on some other article being used as a template; I could not find the text with embedded footnotes, which was a bit of a surprise, but the nominations, TV appearance, and most of the categories had to go. (I searched also on his name in Bengali script, with no more luck.) I fear it may now look more like the deleted versions. Yngvadottir (talk) 10:14, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

I've made an unpleasant discovery about the author of the new article. Drawing your attention as an admin to my post at User talk:Kingshukgiri#Concern about your edits and requesting a check of Draft:Tollywood Talkies against the version deleted after AfD. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy

Samurai Kung fu Cowboy is contesting their block. Initially, they were downplaying the seriousness of their violations and continue to give incorrect answers around copyright, but appear to be getting close. What are your thoughts around unblocking here? If they are able to give the correct answers, would you be okay with an unblock here? --Yamla (talk) 12:54, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

@Yamla: If they were able to give correct answers, I would be okay with unblocking. It seems like they don't quite understand though, so Rosguill's proposed unblock condition could be the better route to allow them to edit productively in other areas. — JJMC89 07:22, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Song of the Islands

Greetings. Earlier today, you removed an image (File:Songs of the Islands.png) from the article Song of the Islands (Marty Robbins album). As the image is an album cover, and the article is the album in question, it was my understanding that such usage was permitted. Can you clarify for me why the image was removed. And what I need to do to remedy the problem. Thank you for any assistance you can provide in answering these questions. Cbl62 (talk) 18:08, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Image metadata error

Hi - an image I uploaded was flagged by your BOT as needed further reduction "as a non-free image". I selected the wrong button at upload, and it is actually out of copyright, having been published in 1880. Would you help me correct this? The image is File:Crest of Delta Beta Phi fraternity.jpg. I'd reduce it, but readability would suffer. The page where it is used calls out a detail from the image, which a reduced version wouldn't show clearly. Jax MN (talk) 19:57, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

@Jax MN: I've fixed the licensing and moved it to Commons. You could upload the full resolution from the source. — JJMC89 07:45, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Removal of gallery at FFD

Hey there. Both DemonDays64 and Alexis Jazz have issues with your bot removing gallery of images at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2020 December 20. I reverted the attempt to insert {{nobots}} because the other bot AnomieBOT does closures on behalf of closing admins. I'm pinging both of them here. George Ho (talk) 00:30, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, I think galleries should be allowed on FfD. Judging two dozen images is far less stressful that way. It's not like we are inserting images for decoration. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 00:54, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
@George Ho: oh wow I didn't think that through 🤦‍♀️ thanks for bringing this up to solve the actual problem. DemonDays64 (talk) 01:40, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
I could see the argument for allowing non-free galleries as part of active FFD discussion since FFD could be considered sort of a maintenance page in some sense; however, the way to go about getting that added as a WP:NFEXMP would be to start a discussion about it at WT:NFCC, not by adding a script or something to stop a bot from doing what it's supposed to be doing. A local consensus can't override a community-wide policy and WP:NFCC#9 is quite clear that non-free content can only be used in the article namespace. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:59, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
I've started WT:NFCC#NFEXMP for FFD discussions so it's probably best to continue this discussion there. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:12, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
George, Thanks for removing {{nobots}}. It wouldn't have had the intended effect since my bot is not exclusion compliant for NFCCP enforcement tasks. Alexis and DemonDays64, you should be aware of WP:NFCC#9 and thar adding or restoring such use is a blatant policy violation. — JJMC89 05:17, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
Note — I suddenly feel strongly like I've seen this brought up and decided to not be changed. No idea where the discussion was though. DemonDays64 (talk) 07:48, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Issue of merging categories of Armenians in the diaspora

I see you have merged all the categories of (Respective country)people of Armenian descent and (Respective country)n Armenians together as one category when they are clearly two separate categories for two separate distinct reason. What was the reason for doing this? Many could see this as vandalism since you put them all under one umbrella when it is not the same. I respectfully request that you undo all the merging you have done for all the Armenian categories. Hovhannesk (talk) 20:34, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

I suggest that you educate yourself on what vandalism is and is not. Given your tenure here, you should know what it is and know better than to cast aspersions. First, I didn't merge the categories; I only cleaned up some links afterward. Second, implementing the outcome of a community discussion, Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 December 5#Armenian diaspora categories in this case, is never vandalism, regardless of who did it. — JJMC89 21:31, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

I see {{license migration|{{{migration|}}}|disclaimers=yes|dw={{{dw|no}}}}}. — JJMC89 22:50, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Hmm... I think {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-migrated}} might be giving me trouble then. (See, for example, File:El Monumento al jíbaro Puertorriqueño.jpg.) I think there are two extra right-side braces just before the dw tags which might be breaking things; such braces don't exist in {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}}. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 23:18, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Image removal at Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel

Hi JJMC89! JJMC89 bot removed an image at Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel with this edit that I do not understand. Admittedly, the Wikipedia rules regarding images are too complex for me to follow, but I thought everything at that Australian government images’s page, rule-wise, looked okay and that it could be used on other directly related articles. Could you please let me know what’s lacking at that image page and how I might fix it? Thanks! SpikeToronto 10:59, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi SpikeToronto. Take a look at the edit summary the bot left once again and you'll see that it contains a link to WP:NFC#Implementation. There are two things that each non-free file uploaded to Wikipedia needs: (1) a copyright license and (2) a non-free use rationale for each use. So, if a file is being used in more than one article or more than once in the same article, it needs a separate, specific non-free use rationale for each of those uses per WP:NFCC#10c or the file can be removed per WP:NFCCE. That's why the bot removed the file from Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel. The simple fix would just be to add the missing rationale for that additional use to the file's page, but non-free content use isn't always so simple. Adding the missing rationale will stop the bot from removing the file, but it doesn't automatically mean that the non-free use is considered to be policy compliant per WP:JUSTONE.
One thing about files like this is that in most cases it's almost always possible to either find or create a free equivalent image that can serve the same basic encyclopedic purposes as a non-free one. That's the biggest hurdle you're going to have to overcome with respect to this file. Another possible issue might be WP:NFC#Meeting the minimal usage criterion because the photo in question seems to be of a particular class of ship, not of a particular ship per se; so, its use in the article about the class might actually be more appropriate than its use in an article about one particular ship in said class. So, even if WP:NFCC#1 isn't an issue, it still might only be appropriate to use the photo in one of the two articles. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:56, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: Thanks! SpikeToronto 09:33, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
