Route Description section on Wikipedia highway pages

Hi, you seem to be active on many Wikipedia highway sections, so I wanted to direct my general question to you. Does the Route Descriptions section on a highway page need citations? I saw your US Route 34 in Iowa page was named a GA, and in that article the Route Description section has sources. However, I have tangled with other editors who seem to disagree, but thankfully I am no longer involved in edit wars about them since I placed tags over the relevant sections. I just want to be able to reference someone with real experience in this area should any future issues arise. Some articles with these issues are: U.S. Route 209, Massachusetts Route 2, Interstate 88 (New York), U.S. Route 202 in New York, Massachusetts Route 9, U.S. Route 44 ( CT, RI, MA sections), Henry Hudson Parkway, Interstate 530, Taconic State Parkway, Interstate 89, New York State Route 34, Interstate 84 in New York (East of Hudson River section), Interstate 86 (Pennsylvania-New York), Interstate 684, and Wilbur Cross Parkway. Thank you in advance for your help and advice. 108.21.182.146 (talk) 17:51, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I would say that a good highway article should have citations for the route description, and they're very easy. For mine, I cite the official state DOT map along with the Google Maps driving directions in satellite view. For some things, I've needed to add in other maps (railroad names, national forest boundaries). That will cover the basic content describing the route a highway takes. Some additional information will need different citations, of course. Imzadi 1979  02:54, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the response, User:Imzadi1979. For what its worth, I agree that some sourcing is appropriate if for no other reason than to ensure there is less unsourced freelancing within the route description. 108.21.182.146 (talk) 16:16, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
@IP Really any section of prose or figures (like junction lists, especially the mileposts) should be cited to a reliable source. What Imzadi1979 mentioned about citing Google Maps and a paper map is a current best practice for an RD.

Template:PRint (|exit & km notes)

Hi, Fredddie! I need your help again. The |espan= doesn't fit the exit list correctly, and I would like that in |km= and |km2= can be added letters to create footnotes between square brackets (like in CA-33 major intersections list). Maybe that last thing I'm asking isn't as easy as the first one. Yamil Rivera (talk) 04:15, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

I solved the second problem by adding |km_ref=. It was easier than I thought but a small error still occurs when two different distances are placed in the same place (you can see that in PR-165 major intersections list). Yamil Rivera (talk) 15:41, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

@Yarfpr: Glad the first problem was easy enough to fix. I'm not seeing anything odd on PR 165. Imzadi1979 maybe you'll see something I'm not. –Fredddie 01:08, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry. I didn't explain myself well. The problem with |espan= is that all the information in the other columns moves to the right, and |km_ref= always appears after the second distance used (|km2=), when there are times that it should appear in the first one (|km=). This is evident in the PR-165 concurrency with PR-2. Yamil Rivera (talk) 02:58, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
I just solved my problem with the |espan=. My mistake was that I didn't replace {{PRint|exit with {{PRint (that was a great oops, lol). Yamil Rivera (talk) 03:13, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Yep. I was just going to suggest that. Sometimes you have to say your issue put loud and then you figure it out.
That's true. I feel bad for not explaining myself correctly from the beginning, but it was good in a way because I could solve some things on my own. Right now only the |km_ref= is pending. When I add two separate lengths with a line, the |km_ref= always appears after the second option, but I would like some parameter to be created so that the |km_ref= can also be positioned after the first length. Maybe |km2_ref=, |km_ref2= or something similar might work. You know more about this than me, and for that I feel grateful to you for all the help and teachings you've given me. I only implement in the PR road articles what I've seen in those of the US to update and standardize the information. TC! Yamil Rivera (talk) 20:23, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
A few minutes ago I tried to implement the km2_ref parameter in PRint, but it didn't work. Maybe what I'm asking for doesn't even exist in Jctint, but it would be very useful if it is added to all jurisdictions where it applies. The other thing that I'm currently trying to implement is the creation of PRintfiller. In Puerto Rico there're many intersections that place between two municipalities or localities, and that template can solve some repetitions in the information. I've currently modified the ONintfiller code to fit the needs of PR, but I don't know if what I've developed at the moment is fine to publish it. If you want and have the time, you can look at it and modify it. TC! Yamil Rivera (talk) 15:01, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
This is the first time I've heard of a need for a |km2_ref=. Do you have an example where using |km_ref= doesn't work the way you want it to work?
As for {{PRintfiller}}, are you trying to avoid a situation like the Fulton–Clayton county line on Georgia State Route 138? –Fredddie 00:22, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
When there's a concurrency, normally the main road maintains its mileposts. The problem that I'm currently having with km_ref is that when two different km markers are placed in the same intersection, the reference always appears after the second length, although the note must be in the first length. PR-165 has concurrency with PR-2, so it's interrupted at its km 13.6, which corresponds to km 23.5 of PR-2, which is the dominant route. In that junction, everything is fine because the note is after km 23.5, but when we pass at the end of the concurrency, the note should appear after km 22.9 of PR-2, not after km 13.7 of PR-165 (California SR 33 shows perfectly what I want). Perhaps it isn't necessary to create a km2_ref, but there may be some way to place the reference where it is needed.
In relation to PRintfiller, you're right - I try to avoid that. In Puerto Rico it's common that a road is on the border between two different municipalities or localities, so PRintfiller could improve that detail in many of the cases, although I recognize that in others the Georgia SR 138 format would continue to exist, especially if in these two places separately there're no more intersections where the PRintfiller can be properly implemented.
I hope I've explained myself well because last time I didn't do the corresponding thing to make myself understood. I thank you for all the help and patience towards me (English isn't my first language and sometimes I may not express myself correctly). Regards. Yamil Rivera (talk) 01:18, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
As you've noticed, I got it working. Go ahead with PRintfiller if you feel it will benefit the PR project. I don't see its use extending into the states. –Fredddie 03:51, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Thank you so much! You're right - I haven't seen it either. For that reason I've decided to give up the idea of creating PRintfiller. Again I thank you for all your help and suggestions. Yamil Rivera (talk) 04:02, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Infobox road small/testcases

Your edit of Template:Infobox road small/testcases on 22:29, 20 February 2020 has resulted in a Table tag that should be deleted lint error, and the headings "Live template" and "Sandboxed" are no longer centered above their columns. Would you please take a look at this? —Anomalocaris (talk) 17:52, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Infobox road instances in Tajikistan

A tag has been placed on Category:Infobox road instances in Tajikistan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. New page reviewer granted

Hi Fredddie. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Barkeep49 (talk) 02:39, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Some errors with Template:Jctbridge

Hi Fredddie! I found that municipality and mspan parameters aren't working correctly for PR. When I write municipality=San Juan (for example), it appears in red font because instead of heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico, it redirects you to San Juan Municipality, Puerto Rico, and that page doesn't exist. Only the municipality_special parameter works in this case. Also, the mspan parameter doesn't fit the list, but lspan works perfectly. Here you can see what I'm saying. TC! Yamil Rivera (talk) 22:10, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

OK, I kind of have an idea of what's going on. I'm on vacation currently so I won't be able to do anything about it until this Sunday at the earliest. –Fredddie 03:56, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
All right. For now it's not a priority, but I still wanted to inform you about it. I appreciate all your help and suggestions. Enjoy your vacations! Yamil Rivera (talk) 14:17, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
The most important thing for me is that the mspan works correctly because municipality_special can solve the other problem for me for now. Yamil Rivera (talk) 18:52, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
I decided to take a different approach and I want to get PR using the Lua version of Jctint. Look at User:Fredddie/sandbox#PR_66 and you'll see where I'm at now. We'd get around the San Juan issue by using |indep_city=. This works if you don't want to mention barrios. –Fredddie 02:31, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
As far as |mspan= goes, we can't use it for municipalities. Mspan is reserved for lengths mspan and kmspan. As a compromise, you can use |munspan= for municipality spans. –Fredddie 02:34, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
I've noticed that the red letters occur because the comma has a space in front of it. Example: instead of Carolina, Puerto Rico, says Carolina , Puerto Rico. Yamil Rivera (talk) 02:35, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
Yes. That's the hang-up right now. I've asked USRD's Lua expert to take a look and hopefully he has time soon. –Fredddie 02:38, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
I like munspan and the fact that location leads directly to the place without using location_special. Thank you! Yamil Rivera (talk) 02:44, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Aha! The issues were fixed and now the appropriate links are blue. I will look it all over again tomorrow after work and take those changes live. –Fredddie 04:11, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

OK. I would like to share with you some observations to consider. I leave those to your discretion because you understand the situation better than I do: municipality1 + municipality2 = "municipality line" or "municipal line", and indep_city1 + indep_city2 = "city line", "municipality line" or "municipal line". I already saw that everything else was fixed, and I've even seen ctdab1 and ctdab2 working perfectly! I appreciate all you do. Yamil Rivera (talk) 15:30, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
That's something I never would have thought about. I'll see what I can do to work that in. –Fredddie 19:37, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
I've seen a lot of errors in all the article lists after mspan was replaced by munspan, but I've no problem fixing it even though it takes me a long time to do it. I also noticed that km2_ref disappeared, which was very important in concurrency terminus. What I would like to know is if there's a span type parameter for ctdab so that it works the same as munspan and lspan in all barrios located in the same municipality. I think that's impossible because there're sometimes location1 and location2, but it would save a lot of time by not having to repeat ctdab so many times. Thanks for helping me a lot in all this interesting process. Yamil Rivera (talk) 03:07, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Unfortunately you have to use ctdab a lot. I can do a JWB run fixing mspan to munspan. –Fredddie 03:09, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Mspan has been replaced by munspan. –Fredddie 03:15, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Km2_ref is back. See PR-165. –Fredddie 03:23, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! Something weird happened on Puerto Rico Highway 26. I don't know how to fix it. Yamil Rivera (talk) 03:28, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
I fixed it! Yamil Rivera (talk) 03:33, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Got it. The Jctint/USA module doesn't like kilometers. –Fredddie 03:35, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Thank you! I know that what I'm going to ask you isn't related at all to everything you did, but I still wanted to get out of all my doubts. Should the South-North / West-East standard really be followed at all times in all lists even if it doesn't always coincide with km 0 of some routes? That way I can take advantage of the boring quarantine days to make all the changes, LOL. Yamil Rivera (talk) 03:48, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

I'd say yes just so all of our articles are consistent. I've done a few junction lists where the last row was mile zero. –Fredddie 03:52, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Great! I'll take it into consideration. Thank you! Yamil Rivera (talk) 04:39, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Trouble replacing PNG road signs with SVG versions

Hello Fredddie! I was curious if I could ask for some of your assistance. I have requested SVG versions of road signs both here in section 104 and here, but when I and the creators of these files tried replacing the current PNG versions with the new SVG versions, we did not know how to. The filename specifications of these PNG images seem to be buried within templates. Given your experience with working with road sign files, perhaps you could help? Thank you! TextClick (talk) 20:09, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

By the way, the articles that we require assistance with are Florida State Road 538, Ontario Highway 400, Ontario Highway 417, and Osceola Parkway. TextClick (talk) 20:18, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
You are correct in that the calls for these shields were buried within templates. I have edited the templates in questions and now all four articles show SVG instead of PNG. –Fredddie 21:25, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much! TextClick (talk) 21:58, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello again Fredddie! I apologize in advance if this is a bit disruptive, but I wanted to ask for your assistance again. I recently requested for the creation of a vector version of this road shield file. I noted that it was used in a lot of town and highway pages in Newfoundland under the "Highways" and "Junctions" section of their infoboxes. I have already changed the .png to .svg in a template for the respective file, but from what I can tell, these pages still use the PNG file. Would you be able to figure out the issue? Thanks! TextClick (talk)

I saw you edited the infobox subtemplate Template:Infobox road/shield/CAN. One other place to check is the provincial road data module Module:Road data/strings/CAN/NL, which I've already edited. Each Canadian province and U.S. state has its own module and these control Template:Jct. Give it some time for the cache to update and any leftover will need to be switched manually. –Fredddie 22:15, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
I see, thank you! TextClick (talk) 22:42, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Kansas

Hi Fredddie, Thank you for fixing the K-145 article. Do you happen to know the year when the modern day us highway shield was first used in Kansas?, just so I know when to request one for an article. Also do you know if the Kansas Department of Transportation allows maps to be used from rural highway resolution documents or other publications of theirs? I know some states allow it and some dont, just not sure about Kansas. Thank You for your time, 420Traveler (talk) 02:31, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

I took care of the first part wrt shields already. I don't quite understand what you mean by the second part about using maps. –Fredddie 02:42, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
I realized that, thats why I said "thank you for fixing K-145". I was asking you for the date when the modern day US Highway shields started to be used, so I know when to request one for Another Kansas highway article. As to the second question, I meant, can you add maps from rural resolution documents to wikipedoa commons as a picture? Thank you for your time, 420Traveler (talk) 04:22, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
Sorry I was sleepy when I answered the last time. The 1971 MUTCD is the first one to show the current version of the U.S. Highway shield, but it wasn't in wide use until later in the decade. 1978 was the next MUTCD, so that's when I would start using the current shields. As far as maps from documents, I would err on the side of caution and not upload images to Commons. I know we have route maps from a Kansas state map in use, but I think those were kept on a copyright technicality. They were deleted for a time and then undeleted when the technicality was pointed out. –Fredddie 12:31, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Thats ok no problem, and ok that makes sense to me. Thanks, 420Traveler (talk) 13:37, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Template:Maplink with OSM

Hello, I`m editor and admin on Macedonian Wikipedia, and we have maplink option for OpenStreetMaps and they are allowed to be used on our wiki. Recently, we started writing articles about regional routes in Macedonia, and we want to be displayed on a map. They are already covered on OSM, but obviously something I`m not doing right. As I notice that you have previous history of roads/routes and using this template, I hope that you can help me, or at least point me someone who knows more. Please find article on Macedonian Wikipedia, Wikidata item and OSM relation. Thanks --Ehrlich91 (talk) 11:48, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

@Evad37: this might be better for you. –Fredddie 12:53, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
@Ehrlich91: Since 24 January, replication of OSM data has been temporarily disabled due to phab:T243609. Until this is fixed, only OSM relations which were tagged with the Wikidata id before that date can be displayed on our maps. - Evad37 [talk] 03:29, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Fredddie/Archives, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Update to Aomori Pref Route 120

Thanks for your help on that article, however I noticed the automatic shield that is generated by the infobox looks pretty bad. Is there a way the numbers can be shrunk down so they aren't so oversized? ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 01:17, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

I did that intentionally based on the image in the article and other signs that have been created. I also looked for some guidance on JPWP and the template they use seemed like the numbers weren't big enough. I certainly can resize the numbers, and I will, but I would like to get a measured drawing that's a little larger than this [1]. Then we can both breathe easy know they're The Right Size. –Fredddie 01:32, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
I've found the ones on JPWP are really inconsistent, I don't know what's going on under the hood to generate the signs over there but often times the numbers aren't even aligned well let alone sized correctly. I was trying to find a larger measured drawing, and found this [2]. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 02:25, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
Nice find. That's easier to read than the one I found. I ended up redoing the the file to the specs. –Fredddie 03:07, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
That looks great, thanks for the work you do. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 03:19, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

AHL teams

Howdy. Perhaps you were unaware, WP:HOCKEY reached a compromise years ago to not use diacritics on player names on North American based team & league articles, with the exceptions being Quebec leagues. GoodDay (talk) 23:00, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. I did not know that, however Veilleux's article title has the diacritic. I have no dog in this fight outside of being a Wild fan. –Fredddie 23:05, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Country parameter in Infobox Road template

@Fredddie:: With regard to the use of the country parameter in the Infobox Road template in the National Road article, I was going by the documentation for the template, which says, "These parameters are typically used only for numbered routes." I realize that "typically" is not "always", but there's nothing in the documentation that indicates any exceptions. In addition, the parameter doesn't seem to change the display of the infobox, and I don't see anything obvious in the template code for why it would be used for non-numbered roads. Could you update the template documentation to explain when it should be used in this situation, and what it accomplishes. Indyguy (talk) 19:03, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

K-196 and others

I respect your rate decision on K-196 and other that have been flagged for reassessment not being B-Class. Just wondering why its not a B-Class, because many of the Kansas Good Article class that were promoted 2014 and before seem like C-Class? Thanks, and keep up the good work. 420Traveler (talk) 20:09, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

To be honest, I'm looking at the references. I'm looking for "independent coverage from reliable sources" (read: newspaper articles about the highway). K-196 has lots of refs, but they're from KSDOT. –Fredddie 23:14, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Uintah Basin Rail

Fredddie, Wonder if I can beg/borrow you to teach an old dog a new trick. I'd like to create a map for the article Uinta Basin Rail. I'm completely new to GIS, but have wanted to learn for a long time. However, my scenario won't match the tutorial that is on WP:USRD. There are .kmz files (which I'm guessing/hoping is the same as kml) for the 3 currently active proposed routes for this rail line at http://uintabasinrailwayeis.com/ under "documents and links". I know for a fact they at one time had one up for the recently rejected "craig" alternative mentioned in the article (it was still active when I started working on the article. In fact, as is likely apparent from the article, for a while it was the preferred option, I had to revise the text once it was eliminated). So maybe by browsing a web archive service we might be able to find the .kmz file for that. I would like to do at least some of the work myself, to learn. But could you advise me on how/where to get started when my base point is a kmz file? Thanks mucho in advance. Dave (talk) 20:11, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Oh hi Dave! Are you thinking of making a static map or new dynamic map? If you're making a static map, your mapping software of choice should take KMZ. If you're going the dynamic map route, just open a KMZ in Google Earth and then you can manipulate it for formatting's sake and then save as a KML. If you put the three proposed routes into a folder, you can save the folder as a KML and then you only have one KML file to work with. Let me know if you need any more assistance. –Fredddie 20:40, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
I just wanted a map for the article, so static map. But if generating a KML file is that easy, I'll give that as shot too. I'm sure I'll be screaming for help either here or on IRC at some point. Thanks for the pointers. Dave (talk) 01:40, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

KML Files Redux

Fredddie, so I'm back home and on my big computer. Still trying to get Uinta Basin Rail ready for GAC. Getting the Wikiminiatlas up and running was trivially easy. Thanks, your directions were easy to follow. Still harder is getting the map for the infobox to work. Apparently I have to convert the KML file to another format? The instructions on commons show how to create a .map file, but they do not show how to do this when one is starting with a KML. Have any ideas? FYI the KML file at Template:Attached KML/Uinta Basin Rail has the combined 3 active proposals, and the KML for the currently preferred proposal is at: Wikipedia:Map data/Wikipedia KML/Uinta Basin Rail (I know, I should have uploaded to commons. I'll delete once I get this thing working). When I preview Uinta Basin Rail with the infobox with this code added I just get a syntax error: {{maplink|frame=yes|plain=yes|frame-align=center|frame-width=290|frame-height=250|type=line|raw={{Wikipedia:Map data/Wikipedia KML/Uinta Basin Rail}}}}. What am I missing? Thanks in advance. Dave (talk) 06:49, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your help. The key to solving the problem was provided by User:Reedy who pointed me to a JSON syntax checker website at https://jsonlint.com/. He also futzed around with the file. There were lots of problems with that file, the biggest one is most likely during a search and replace to get the syntax to match a JSON that was known to be working, I likely contaminated some of the co-ordinates. But it's working now, Uinta Basin Rail, ain't she perty? ;) Dave (talk) 18:36, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
P.S. My next step is to figure out how to isolate the co-ordinates of the 3 big tunnels to shade them differently. For now I may just do that manually in a bitmap an post as a separate image, given the article needs images anyways. Dave (talk) 18:38, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
The easiest way is to draw them in Google Earth then convert the kml to JSON. I would do a 10px line at 40% opacity. That's the same method I use for unbuilt road corridors. –Fredddie 18:50, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

D1 and D5 confusion + an A26 is needed

Dear Fredddie,

I know you said that it was hard to believe that they went from D1 to D5.

Note that these aren't really alphanumeric routes and that these are permanent detour routes. In fact they went from D5 first to D1.

Here's the reasons why there isn't a D2, 3 or 4.

D2: You can just use A40 instead, putting a D2 marker provides no additional benefit. D3: There's isn't a M3 motorway in NSW in the first place D4: You can just use A44 instead, putting a D4 marker provides no additional benefit.

This is if you were curious.

Also could you please make me a A26 marker.

Cheers, Thent1234 (talk)

I can, but it's going to be a while. I will be out of state and away from my computer for at least a week. –Fredddie 17:31, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

South Carolina period shields

I saw that you used a 1971 variant on South Carolina Highway 28. I thought there were only three variants: the one from 1920 to 1947, the one from 1948-2006, and the current one (from 2007). What years should it be, 1971 to 2006? Thank you. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 03:01, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

AFAIK there is a 1955 variant, but there are no shields made, so I wouldn't use that one just yet. –Fredddie 03:20, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Could you please correct the code in Module:Road data/strings/USA/SC as appropriate? So, the years are 1920-1970, 1971-2006, and 2007-present? Thank you. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 03:36, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Also, since you know more about this than I do, can you make a set of special routes on the module for the 1920 set? Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 05:43, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
What subtypes do you need? –Fredddie 06:03, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Alternate and business, please. Thank you for your help. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 06:16, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Did you make the alternate plate for the 1920 alternate highways? It is missing. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 07:40, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

I did but, uhh, I didn't upload it yet. I'm currently in Oklahoma headed to Arizona, so it's going to be a little while. –Fredddie 17:32, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

I didn't realize you were traveling. Thank you for the heads up. I corrected a goof you put in the module. You had the 1920 Alt. links using the Bus. link structure. I thought something was wrong. On my sandbox page, I am in process of revamping the List of state highways in South Carolina page. There were two redlinks in the Alternate section. I thought I typed something wrong, but they were correct ("type=SC 1920-Alt"). So, I looked at the module. I really appreciate your helping me out with all this. If only I were a better editor, then I could do more on my own. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 00:08, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
@Morriswa: I don't know if you saw it or not, but I got banners working for the SC 1920 special types. –Fredddie 00:04, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
What are you referring to? I just refreshed and cleared the cache on my sandbox, but I didn't see any changes. Can you elaborate on just what you are talking about? Also, did you ever upload the 1926 special route plates? I did notice that, in infoboxes, the 1920 types are displaying the 1948 plates. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 01:54, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
I'm referring to that. The 1920 types should not be displaying the 1948 plates. –Fredddie 01:59, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

Infobox street

Hello. I was a little bit confused when you changed {{infobox road}} with {{infobox street}}. I thought we were supposed to use Template:Infobox road for the highways under the maintenance of the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 02:18, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Hueman1. I simply went through the Streets in Manila and Quezon City categories and switched them over. That's it. –Fredddie 02:20, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Is there a functionality of {{infobox street}} that {{infobox road}} doesn't have? I noticed that it doesn't support maps, or does it? Compare the old versions of EDSA (road) and Quezon Avenue to the present one. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 02:25, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
It does support maps, and I did a JWB run to fix that. Infobox street, in my opinion, handles local roads better than Infobox road does. There is a massive backend to IBR for all of the highway systems of the world that Infobox street simply doesn't have. –Fredddie 03:04, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Epifanio delos Santos, Quezon, and Commonwealth Avenues are actually one of the major highways in Metro Manila. They should be treated the same way we treat Aguinaldo, Maharlika, and MacArthur Highways.—hueman1 (talk contributions) 06:14, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
Do whatever you need to do. I won't press it any further. –Fredddie 15:40, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

Yes true, but was it meant to be done or an accident? Thanks, 420Traveler (talk) 17:39, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Just want to know so if it's done in future, I know if I should fix it or not.420Traveler (talk) 17:41, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes it was intentional. I'm writing a longer reply on another talk page because I rustled some jimmies last night. –Fredddie 17:45, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Regarding Indian Roads, National Highway

Dear Fredddie,

I need the documentation of all NH's Northern Point and Eastern Point(You used in Andaman and Nicobar U.T). But i have get from this PDF Link:https://morth.nic.in/sites/default/files/State_wise_Length_of_National_Highways_in_India.pdf. Is there any option, for those points.

And also, need {{ }} tag for India's State Highway, in some state its available, not like this

check:-

Need like this   NH 30

It's not properly wiki tag,
  SH 30
or
  SH 30
or
  SH 30

How to use this tag for all states {{Routelist top}}

{{routelist bottom}}

Kindly advice me

Hello Yasercs89! For the northern/western and southern/eastern endpoints, I simply Googled them and put them in the appropriate parameter.
{{Jct}} and {{Routelist row}} are not set up for all Indian states and UTs at the moment, but I can work on that. Right now, the states that are set up use the full name of the state:  Y Tamil Nadu,  Y TN,  N IND-TN
In order to use {{Routelist row}}, just copy this and fill in for each route:
{{routelist row
|country=IND
|type=NH
|route=
|length_km=
|length_ref=
|terminus_a=
|terminus_b=
|notes=
}}
Alternatively, you can ask at Template talk:Routelist row or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways and the editors who watch those pages will help you as well. –Fredddie 07:47, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Fredddie,
Is there any deletion problem for existing Data(Like NH No, Route and Kms) to New Data( NH No, KMs, Miles, Points etc.,). Because its vary for Old one and Reference.
Ref Link:-
https://morth.nic.in/sites/default/files/State_wise_Length_of_National_Highways_in_India.pdf
and also i checked in every states website for more references.
Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yasercs89 (talkcontribs) 09:12, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
I think I know what you're asking. If you have newer or more accurate information then by all means remove the older data and replace it with the new. –Fredddie 16:08, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Fredddie/Archives,

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Question about IP editor 108.88.82.1

The editor User:108.88.82.1 has been a very rude editor since they recently began editing Wikipedia. I left them some messages which they did not read and erased from their talk page, then told me they would not be reading them. Just wondering whether you find them to be obnoxious and generally unconstructive as well? --Quisqualis (talk) 06:05, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

That seems about right. I don't have any patience for people who aren't here to contribute constructively, but I know lots of people with mops. –Fredddie 06:23, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
