Hi buddy, I hadn't noticed that you changed id. Been out of the loop for a a few weeks. Do you feel like taking your camera out? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 08:18, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Kautilya3, hi, I had a bunch of IDs to choose from... If I had a billion followers on Twitter I could have put out an opinion poll :D I just got over with it as fast as possible without much thought DTM (talk) 13:57, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Pictures... I have left a comment over on the talk page Talk:Bulldozer politics. DTM (talk) 13:57, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
I don't like linking Johnson ("BoJo" as somebody branded him!) there. But the bulldozers are going to be roaring in Delhi for quite a while now. You can wait for a chance! -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:30, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Kautilya3; Bulldozers and the Supertech demolition!!![1] I can't find any references that have connected the recent usage of bulldozers to the upcoming Supertech demolition - that only the poor are targeted? That will for sure be a photo event if it eventually takes place. Maybe another Wikipedia editor located close to the structure could be identified.
Jagmohan comes to mind.[2] A quick google search throws up similar incidents from pre-2014 Delhi.[3][4][5] Deja vu. Currently the article "Bulldozer politics" has nothing concrete about the legal aspects of all this, legalities of demolition drives in general, and how structures of criminals were legally being demolished not because they were criminals, but due to illegal property matters (where do they stay now?)....on another note, recently the CAG pulled up Bihar for the use of machines in MG-NREGA since it goes against the right to work.[6] Extending this to bulldozer politics, instead of bulldozers, workers could be hired to destroy stuff using tools. So many working days generated?! (light banter Template:FBDB)
DTM (talk) 11:00, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Here is an article on the legality:

I don't know about Supertech, but the BJP has written to all its Delhi mayors that illegal structures should be demolished (bulldozed). -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:08, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of The Kashmir Files

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article The Kashmir Files you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Fowler&fowler -- Fowler&fowler (talk) 14:01, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Fowler&fowler; Continuing talk page conversations go on the talk page. DTM (talk) 09:24, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
I have now closed the GA. I have stated in the past that you have the ability improve controversial articles because of the rigor and evenhandedness you bring to them. Please continue to improve the article and consider a resubmission in three to six months time when the dust of critical opinion has settled. Flagged?

Hi, DTM. I'm afraid I don't understand the reason you give for your removal of sourced text here. Could you please explain what "reference which is flagged" means? (PS, I expect you realize that it's an inconvenience for other editors when a signature has no relation to the username it represents. People have probably mentioned it before.) Bishonen | tålk 07:32, 27 April 2022 (UTC).

Bishonen; I explained this very nicely on the talk page :( the red black list notice that appear. I mentioned this on the talk page, connecting it to previous discussions. DTM (talk) 09:23, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
I asked about a specific removal of text, and linked to the diff and quoted the edit summary. In the next few hours after it, you made 28 edits to the talkpage. I can't find one that explains the removal in question, and I'm a little surprised that you expect me to spend time digging for it. Please provide the diff to where you explain it very nicely. (I don't see anything like a "red black list notice that appear". Perhaps that depends on what skin one uses.) Bishonen | tålk 11:52, 27 April 2022 (UTC).
Yes. I have mentioned it on the talk page. Yes I see the highlighted text. DTM (talk) 12:00, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Bishonen Just restore it if you want. I'm tired for today. Will reply to this tomorrow. Editing another topic. DTM (talk) 12:01, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
It has already been restored; what I wanted to know was why you made it. Considering the dance you're leading me, I can only assume you didn't have a good reason. Any more unexplained removals of sourced content and I'll consider blocking you. If you're too tired to answer a reasonable request for a diff, while sending me to dig amongst 28 of them, have you considered how tiring that is for the person you're talking to? I'll await a proper answer tomorrow. (Since you continue to ignore my PS, I suppose you don't have a good answer for that either.) Bishonen | tålk 12:13, 27 April 2022 (UTC).
Bishonen block me now please.... DTM (talk) 12:14, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 May newsletter

The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

 1.   Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
 2.   AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
 3.   Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
 4.   Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
 5.   Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
 6.   Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
 7.   Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.

The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Re:Barahoti map

I saw your email about creating/adding a map to the Barahoti article and whether it fell under the topic-ban. Since the region is disputed between India and China (thanks for including that information in the email!), I would regard it to fall under "Indian politics broadly construed". Other maps which don't have such issues, and are otherwise unrelated to politics, controversies etc, should be okay for you to edit but if in any doubt, ask, since we want to avoid any triggers or (even inadvertent) violations. In the future, you can post a request for clarification here on your talkpage, and ping me and/or Bishonen. Abecedare (talk) 15:10, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hi DTM, Thanks for your work! You can upload any new maps to commons, and I can add them to the concerned pages if appropriate. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 12:56, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
I will actually suggest Bish/Abecedare to carve an exception regarding discussion about maps (and only maps) on their talk-page - one of the area where DTM is highly competent. TrangaBellam (talk) 13:16, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
TB, I don't question DTM's contributions or capabilities in this area. However, given recent events, I think that it would be unwise for them to edit in areas of controversy where discussions can become messy, to put it mildly (see eg, 1, 2 and 3. all related to a proposed map of another disputed region). Also, in my experience, it helps to have clearer boundaries since once discussion starts, it can be difficult/counterproductive for admins to dictate how, when, and where an editor can respond (for example, speaking hypothetically, if someone were to object to some aspect of a Barahoti map DTM created, would DTM be allowed to defend their version with sources and arguments? Either we will be letting only one side of the debate to be aired; effectively undoing the topic-ban; or, setting up DTM to be baited into a block).
So, at the moment, I am reluctant to have carve-outs from the topic-ban. IMO it would be better if DTM edits in less stressful areas for say 6-months, and then, if they wish and feel up to it, ask for the topic-ban to be lifted altogether. Abecedare (talk) 22:22, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
I agree completely with Abecedare. Bishonen | tålk 08:29, 10 May 2022 (UTC).
Thank you for this conversation. It has cleared things out for me with regard to maps. DTM (talk) 12:19, 12 May 2022 (UTC) FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 13:35, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Concern regarding Draft:Wikipedia:Good practices for Wikipedia editors related to Kashmir

Hello, FacetsOfNonStickPans. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Wikipedia:Good practices for Wikipedia editors related to Kashmir, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 14:00, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

I want to archive all the sections on my talk page, usually wrapping up individual sections as needed before the archive. With respect to this section, I had never checked what happened to this draft page after my initial edit. (Communication issues on my side or whatever you call it.) With the intention of deleting this I requested a CSD just now. Very minor panic- I opened WP:TBAN and read it for the first time. I undid the CSD. For the first time I realized that someone else had made edits to this page. :P anyway,
Abecedare, hi! I wanted to confirm,
A) in the coming weeks I want to archive the topic ban section on this talk page. Or should I let it stay?
B) apart from the difference between revisions url of your edit with the unblock and conditions, is my topic ban recorded or listed anywhere else in Wikipedia such as Wikipedia:Editing restrictions?
C) If not the talk page, is it enough to just mention the topic ban on my userpage or is even that not necessary? (I understand that if I want to personally place it there that is another matter)
Hope you are well. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 15:06, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Quick answers:
(A) Yes, you are free to archive your talkpage (including the sections related to the block and topic-ban) as you see fit.
(B) The Wikipedia:Editing restrictions is effectively defunct so the topic-ban is only logged in your talkpage history, in your block-log (by reference), and in the memory of some users (most importantly, yours!). Yes, this reliance on individual memory is a systemic deficiency in wikipedia practices but I am not too concerned in this particular case because, (a) I AGF that you'll abide with the restriction, and (b) given how contentious this topic-area is, if you step over the line, you and I both know that someone will surely rush to report it.
(C) You are welcome to mention the topic-ban on your user/talkpage, and it may even be a good idea to do so, but it is not a requirement.
Hope that helps. Happy editing! Abecedare (talk) 16:00, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
PS: I have deleted Draft:Wikipedia:Good practices for Wikipedia editors related to Kashmir per G7 + a dose of common sense. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 16:04, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 07:12, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

I will stay away from Kashmir related articles and all controversial topics, and promise to abide by Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and not abuse anyone. Please unblock me. I went down a black hole with my recent editing and am sorry for the mess.

Accept reason:

Following discussion with FacetsOfNonStickPans and Bishonen over email, the editor is unblocked with the following conditions that they have accepted:

 1. No resumption of vandalism, abuse etc (obviously)
 2. A topic-ban from all edits related to Indian politics broadly construed (to be clear: that would include related BLPs, controversies, history articles, and Kashmir-related pages including The Kashmir files etc), since that seemed to have sparked the recent incidents.
 3. If at any point the editor needs to take a break from wikipedia they can, if they wish, ask for a self-requested block but will not intentionally disrupt wikipedia in order to be blocked.

I've added an NPOV tag to Bias response team

Did you really not have a clue about "Speech First"? Doug Weller talk 07:48, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Doug Weller, I was looking at it from the point of view that Speech First was part of court cases relevant to the article topic. I wanted to convey what the courts thought of the cases related to bias response teams rather than what Speech First was doing. Considering the way I presented this in the corresponding section I do notice the error in this logic. However, I think the reaction may have been a tad strong. Either way, the npov will be addressed. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 02:18, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

I also now think this article should be drastically compressed into a few lines and merged with "Higher education in the United States". Since others have also edited this article, and there has been some concern over its content, there is no need for me to BE BOLD here with regard to the merge. I will tag the pages. Meanwhile I will continue working on improving the article, including as per your some of your edit summaries. Thank you. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 05:30, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
I agree that a merge would be a good idea. Why not propose it on the talk page? See Wikipedia:Merging. Although frankly I think it would be ok to do it now. Doug Weller talk 09:08, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Just to confirm this is a wrap. I had proposed the merge and a talk page section was created at the same time that the comment was written above. But following your comment I went ahead and completed the merge, making sure to reduce the carry over of any new issues into the new section. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 08:43, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Doug Weller talk 08:53, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Competency

What more needs to be done to make you aware of your inability to write decent articles on anything that concerns politics of any kind? You get banned from S. Asian topics and start writing trash on AmPol. TrangaBellam (talk) 07:54, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

@TrangaBellam and it's not being added as a DYK right now I believe. Doug Weller talk 09:19, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes - removed. TrangaBellam (talk) 09:39, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Commentary

TrangaBellam, any comments on this one? FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 17:01, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

It is the bullet, the kinetic energy, the impact of the projectile on the body, it is the health issues behind the pull of a trigger is arguably the most interesting line, I have read in any article on Wikipedia in the last couple of decades as a reader and then, editor. And it only adds to my lingering doubts about your competency to interpret sources and paraphrase their content. TrangaBellam (talk) 18:13, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
TrangaBellam, did you read the source?
Abecedare, Bishonen, I don't think there is any reason for accusations such as this, including language used above in #Competency. How am I suppose to deal with this? I think I interpret and paraphrase sources adequately. It may not be 100% or Nobel laureate quality or even up to the mark of the best Wikipedia editors, but I think I maintain a reasonably good standard as per Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I take part in GA, FL, DYK etc where there is interaction with other editors so it isn't as if I am editing in a black hole? Yes my ability to interpret and paraphrase may vary from topic to topic, but going by my past editing, I think the topics I have chosen so far have been reasonable including the response to it. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 02:44, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Admins/Sysops, one approach I follow with some articles is to have the structure in place before going deeper into GA+ quality paraphrasing. I don't work in a linear manner. I think this approach has worked out alright with the GA articles I have worked on. Simple structure before quality paraphrasing- this isn't to say I do this everywhere, for example below Promethean gap. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 02:44, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Promethean gap

On 19 July 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Promethean gap, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Promethean gap was part of an attempt by Gunther Andres to conceptualize Hiroshima and Auschwitz? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Promethean gap. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Promethean gap), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for Guns don't kill people, people kill people

On 16 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Guns don't kill people, people kill people, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that according to researchers including Stephen Hargarten, the slogan "guns don't kill people, people kill people" is "scientifically inaccurate"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Guns don't kill. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Guns don't kill people, people kill people), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. DYK stuff

Gerda Arendt, I was just randomly wondering, now that I have 50+ DYKs (my old and current usernames combined), and more importantly you are the number 1 as per Wikipedians by number of DYKs, whether those barnstars are within reach ... FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 11:06, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for giving the above a short version, - very helpful when returning. I remember that I was surprised that no 25 DYK medal was flying my way when it happened. All DYK is slow an manual. To achieve a 50 DYK medal, you will first have to update Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of DYKs which has you as DTM and with 39. Perhaps make a note where the archive is - a red link at present - of the name change. I'm not doing DYK medals but someone eventually will once you updated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:54, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Kapellmeister

I don't know what to do about the German position Erster Kapellmeister, which translates to first K, but then it sounds as if he was the first being K, not just a specific job description. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:47, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

This is related to my edit over at Kai Bumann.
This particular line, as of now, is referenced to this "1996 / 1997 1. Kapellmeister am Staatstheater Wiesbaden". The line goes on to use two more references which mention the same, one uses "1." while the other "Erster", (1) "mehrere Jahre als Erster Kapellmeister am Landestheater Detmold" and (2) 1989 wurde er 1. Kapellmeister am Landestheater Detmold.
The section Kapellmeister#Contemporary_usage has a line on this, "An opera company may have several Kapellmeister, ranked as Erste Kapellmeister (First...), Zweite Kapellmeister (Second...), etc.". This line isn't cited, nor referenced to Christian Thielemann's book. "Erste Kapellmeister" is just used at one other place on the English Wikipedia.
Here are some options for the article at hand starting with what was there originally and what it was changed to,
First Kapellmeister
 • Erster Kapellmeister
Erster Kapellmeister
 • Erster Kapellmeister
de
de
de (English: First Kapellmeister)
 • and so on.
In short, I think this version would do, First Kapellmeister. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 10:40, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
Actually, 1st Kapellmeister is used the most on Wikipedia. The original form will do. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 11:16, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations opening soon

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are opening in a few hours (00:01 UTC on 1 September). A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:51, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Abecedare, hi. I don't want to be high-maintenance (Wikipedia:Don't be high-maintenance) by asking too many questions related to my editing following my unblock conditions, but a quick question, and just a word or two from you as an answer to get some direction.
Can I sign up for the above?
I am just asking this in relation to my unblock conditions, and not the actual signing up process and what follows, just to be clear. Either way, thank you in advance. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 13:58, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
I don't see why not. Of course there are topics in military history that overlap with Indian politics (for example, articles related to Indo-Pak wars, or even older wars that have contemporary political import), which you would need to recuse from, but the TBAN doesn't forbid you from otherwise participating in the MilHilst project. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 18:42, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply. This helps. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 09:14, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Happy Independence!

hidden image -- Kautilya3 (talk) 07:36, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

(I censored part of your above message)
It is good you wrote "year round" and not "every day" or "every morning and evening". Breath in, hold om ॐ, hold independence, breathe out. People write Ram Ram in notebooks; stuff in independence somewhere into that wonderful discipline and soother. Change the language and I could fit in a few more humorous cringes. This is just good natured commentary, I am grateful for many things including having interacted with you on Wikipedia. Tidbits you've pointed out when editing on articles together has become a part of the normal editing process. It is like we are chatting after eons. What's up?
I hid the image since that line creeps towards borderline unblock conditions unless microphones or iphones or taking photographs and exploring in general are the conversation starter. I can sense TB honing in (thank you TrangaBellam as well now that I've thought of you as well, your nudges can be cascading and I am better off for it). FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 09:33, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

An essay, or two

TrangaBellam, please suggest one or two essays from the Wikipedia:Essay directory which you think I need to read (or have already overread). When/if you have time. I wouldn't mind attempting a reciprocity. If not, then alright. FacetsOfNonStickPans (talk) 14:08, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Routine, repetitive tasks

I will be doing some routine editing. This may involve skimming through a number of articles in a short period of time, say for example categories related to trains. This could also cover adding short description templates. Since in the past rapid edits have been pointed out, I just wanted to place this here just in case.
