Cree language edit

Hi there!

Thanks so much for mentioning the Little Cree Books project on the Cree language Wikipedia page! What a surprise! I learned about it when I checked my site stats and saw that people were being directed there via Wikipedia, and I wanted to find out what entry was directing them. (I'm the person who initiated the project.) I'd like to update the Wikipedia entry to make that information a little more concise, but I know Wikipedia frowns on companies/organizations/individuals writing about themselves. It is preferred to use Day Month Year format and also citations in the long form, especially to match the citation format of a long established article of this type. Naval History edit

Aye there, 'Djembayz', I'm a member of WikiProject Ships. To help naval historians here at Wikipedia in the effort of writing and citing naval history articles sometime ago I created the List of ships captured in the 19th century and Bibliography of early American naval history pages. Over the last year(+) I have been tracking down and including names of captured ships and naval history texts for inclusion in either of these articles. I like to think that I have included most captured ships (19th century) and most naval history texts (1700s-1800s) for inclusion in these articles, so if you know of any captured ships or naval history texts that are not included would you kindly include them, either on the page or the talk page of the appropriate article? title of infobox on Annie York edit

I've never seen this infobox before; and though "Native American" doesn't display, it's highly inappropriate for use on Canadian First Nations peoples articles. "North American Indian" is maybe the best way to go, since the usual "neutral" wording "Indigenous people of North America" is cumbersome.....I've seen "American Indian Wars" added to some Canadian pages, in an infobox created by USians, and "Native American leaders" cats and the like added to Canadian FN articles....again, that infobox doesn't say Native American" in its display, but I'm predisposed not to use/like it because it's an external/foreign term on Canadian articles.Skookum1 (talk) 02:58, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

The use of "Tribe" in the infobox is problematic in Canada, also, it's not regularly used at all, and the US context is that of a federally recognized tribe; the equivalent in Canada is the band government.Skookum1 (talk) 03:01, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
A little surprised you haven't seen this template, given how prolific you've been. Might be because the name got changed recently from Template:American Indian chief. Feel free to use "Infobox person" if you prefer. I use the template because works better for traditional people than the "Infobox officeholder," and as you point out, it doesn't display "Native American." We discussed turning it into a generic "aboriginal persons" template, but that got too complicated, as terminology differs around the world. "North American Indian" doesn't sound quite right when you are used to hearing "The Museum of the American Indian" as a phrase.
Wouldn't it be easiest to start a First Nations template for Canada, if this template's terminology doesn't work?
(Don't know enough to address the question of how to use the terms "band" and "band government" instead of "tribe," will leave that part to you.)
BTW I started migrating some of your early comments to talk pages, back when you were on WikiBreak. They do seem to add to a sense of article development ... you might want to migrate the rest of them! Djembayz (talk) 03:28, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hm, that migrated content might prove useful in various RMs underway; I'll be back with a link to the list of them; oh on WP:Portal talk:Aboriginal peoples of Canada I made a comprehensive listing.......where the rest of my comments re naming from way back when are is a good question, some was in IPNA, some were on various talkpages of BC and WA and OR articles and the BC/WA/OR WikiProjects.....Just after I posted on Annie York, I raised the issue of a Canadian version of the box on WP:CANTALK but think I might as well go ahead and create it. The meaning of "tribe" is vague and varies from people to people, e.g. the Kwakwaka'wawk peoples are several "tribes"; same with the Sto:lo and various other Halkomelem-speaking peoples and the Dakelh and Tsimhian.... a very few bands use "Tribe", e.g. Cowichan Tribes is the name of a band government containing several tribes.....when an alliance like that it's more common to see e.g. Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations, which is a single band government containing three "Aht" peoples (the ones incorrectly called "Nootka" aka today the Nuu-chah-nulth plus the Ditidaht and Makah. In other groupings the usual "band government" name has changed from "Indian Band" to "First Nation" in modern usage, e.g. Spuzzum First Nation though "Indian Band" and just "Nation" are also seen; if at all; many use just their indigenous name with no English add-ons.Skookum1 (talk) 03:54, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for your encoragement. I have done a lot of just going through the various specific types by year categories and making sure everything is categorized by where it was established. however, I have also found that a large number of things have not been put in any establishment by year cat. This is even without dealing with the far too many articles that do not say anything on when the thing was established. It is good to have support, but it sometimes feels like a never ending task. I never got done with the 2002 category, but I did most of it. Review my edit on Telemedicine edit

Hi Djembayz. I appreciate the note on my talk page and would like to get together to talk more about the [AHRQ Health Care Innovations Exchange] project in general and how the information can be made more available on WP. Meanwhile, can you please look at my edit under teleophthalmology on [telemedicine] to see if it meets guidelines? I'm trying to take baby steps at this point to make sure I don't violate guidelines. I paraphrased the main point of the articles I provided as references.

I wanted to add another statement like "Better screening rates can, in turn, lead to treatment that might otherwise not take place or become more costly as untreated conditions progress." but was afraid that would be too speculative. Specific support for this statement though can be found in the second reference I provided. That article states, "Of the patients referred for sight-threatening retinopathy, approximately 25 percent had never had an eye examination, suggesting that these patients would have fallen through the cracks in the absence of the system." Salishan stories.... edit

the title "oral literature" seems an oxymoron to me, "oral tradition" is more accurate; literature is about things written, and oral traditions pass things down in a fluidic, not graven-image manner. I'm from St'at'imc and Sto:lo and Skwxwu7mesh areas, and know a lot of these stories, and have other publications...but if all such were included, this article would be by far too large; this is what I consider an "omnibus" title and ultimately will need breaking up; generalizations made about Salishan mythologies/stories...that's more the gist of this article, though not reflected in its title. User:OldManRivers is Skwxwu7mesh, User:Murderbike is Nooksack; both are inactive, and both stayed away from this, which seems based on only the one book, with one definition from Clark; like Coast Salish defensive sites it is based on only one publication/pair of publications, and does not, to me, merit its title; this is old-fashioned anthropological "gee look at this look at that" and there are other topics in this area much more in need ofr covering than the Squamish ogress.... i.e. the Transformers, the spirit-beings who were Coyote's coastal-region counterparts; and the Coyote story here, how is it difference from Coyote as told in non-Salish traditions, or does it have more similarities to them; it certianly has no relation at all to Coast Salish, just as the cannibal-women-of-the-woods common on the Coast has no equivalent inland, and so on....Skookum1 (talk) 20:21, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Cathee Dahmen edit

Hi Djembayz: In regards to Cathee Dahmen wiki article, you wrote false information stating that she had "two daughters in her second marriage" but this is not a true statement. Dahmen had adopted out a daughter out of wedlock and then had one daughter in her first marriage. In her second marriage she had another daughter and a son. Please take precaution next time when editing and sourcing information, as well as sourcing people's promotional material; (ex: selling books, media attention, etc.) that is taking advantage of Cathee Dahmen's career or personal family. We have a policy on Wikipedia that editors with a potential conflict of interest, such as family members, need to put their information on the talk page rather than editing the article itself. If some of the information available about this person is erroneous, please point it out on the talk page, so that editors working on the article know. I'm certain it is frustrating when erroneous information gets out there. If you can get someone to write an article with the correct information in a reliable source, such as a newspaper, book, or academic journal article, it can be used in Wikipedia to help set the facts straight. Bot generated title edit

Hey Djembayz, it works a little better to use the "interactive" version of reflinks because it will insert full citation templates with considerably more citation material in them, the simple version that just adds brackets and a title looks almost as clunky as the bare URLS and the interactive version only takes one more click to do. Ideally, one also reviews the autogenerated links, but for a quick drive-by edit, even the machine generated verision is superior to the non-interactive form. Hope this helps.
