Halo series article to FA

Hey, I'm going to have some free time next week. Can you help finish up Halo (series) so we can nominate it for FA? (Guyinblack25 talk 21:27, 18 April 2008 (UTC))

I've done about all I can think of right now, which isn't much since I'm not familiar with this series. Do you think a peer review would help before going to FA? (Guyinblack25 talk 18:01, 24 April 2008 (UTC))
FYI- the peer review is located here, and has been included on the VG Peer review page as well. (Guyinblack25 talk 20:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC))

Yeah, I had it on my to-do list for too long. It's not quite done for the time being, there are 2 other (brief) references I'll add now, plus some more details on synonymy... at least the European species will be straightened out taxonomically. There is a comprehensive review for the American ones too, but unfortunately it's a thesis that was never published in digital form, so I have to guess at some of its contents - these will be sourced with subsequent papers from ppl who have actually read the thesis, but I have yet to review all the material. Gonna be some time. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 13:32, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, so that's that (for starters ;-) ). Time to polish up the ole French skills. And actually I only wanted to add Cockerell (1923). But the eggs thing was too tempting to resist. And as I was at it, the footprints too. And so on. Enjoy! Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 22:29, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Marvel 1602

Hi David,
I wonder if we can discuss the Marvel 1602 issue. You have twice removed the more detailed accounts that I and others have drawn up, not just of the main characters but also supporting ones like Foggy Nelson and the President-for-Life.
I happen to believe that a book like this deserves all the details it gets. It is not just a simple story which Gaiman came up with from off the top of his head: a great deal of research and investigation was made into the backgrounds of the various Marvel characters and of the Elizabethan period. I think a lot of readers would appreciate how much effort was put into it and how small details are actually important ones. Some people might wonder where James' loathing of tobacco comes from and if it is true or not and my account of him does show the truth of his opinion on the subject.
I did make the Characters section separate from the Plot section. I'm trying to convey how they develop and connect to the "regular" Marvel world, and our own: the connection between Fury and Sir Francis Walsingham, for instance.
Can we come to a compromise on this? Cheers,--Marktreut (talk) 17:54, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I was wondering if you've had a chance to take another look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. (OoT FAC) I've removed an image and replied to your other concerns. Thanks, Pagrashtak 04:37, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Ninja Gaiden peer review again

Hi, Dave. I have revised the entire article with respect to grammar and prose. I used tools this time and according to the readability tool, the article is much better on reading. However, I would like your pair of eyes to go through the article again and confirm if the tools are not messing around with me (machines are not literary masters at the moment). Please take a look and sorry for taking up your time again. Thank you in advance. Jappalang (talk) 06:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Halo series

I didn't want to comment at the peer review and have people think it had been commented on because I only had one thought; it's 99% complete, probably 100, and the only thing left to think of is, what would need to be expanded so that this could function as the lead article in a movie, literary adaptation, and a machinima of the halo series featured topic? It looks good as is, but could use a look over. Also check the fair use rationales, be super specific about what they demonstrate and why they are crucial to use. Do that, and you should just launch the candidacy at any time, it looks ready. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 05:44, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Follow-up to the deletion of the James J. Flaherty page

Hello,

According to the procedures, I'm writing to you because I believe you were the deleting admin of the James J. Flaherty page. You wrote that there weren't enough reliable, 3rd party resources to confirm his notability.

I'd like to present you with some more sources that we've identified. Does this change your view?

1) Douglas Silsbee, an author of several coaching books, cite James Flaherty as a key influencer http://www.dougsilsbee.com/resources/links

2) Fast Company interviewed James Flaherty about how to find the right coach http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/05/coach4.html

3) In the mass compilation book called "Learning Organizations," James Flahery is cited as a key influencer on one author's work. http://books.google.com/books?id=-ZTIOvDMUWkC&pg=PP20&lpg=PP20&dq=james+flaherty&source=web&ots=f3tVsBqrjE&sig=_u8dbEpTVTDUjGie2qG4wDADzUs&hl=en#PPP18,M1

4) Integral Leadership Review, the world's premier publication of integral approaches to leadership, interviews James Flaherty about his book http://integralleadershipreview.com/archives/2004/2004_10.html#fresh

5) Several universities use James's book in their coaching certificate programs. + Georgetown University, Washington DC + Loyola University, Chicago + Royal Roads University, Victoria BC Canada + University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, South Africa

6) The Shambhala Institute (that also has a widely known book publishing division) cites James Flaherty as one of the thought leaders in their authentic leadership training. http://www.shambhalainstitute.org/alia/2008summer/home.html

7) Two highly regarded academics, Peter Senge from MIT and Jerry_I._Porras from Stanford, favorably endorse James's work in the field of coaching. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/product-description/0750679204/ref=dp_proddesc_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books

For putting up with the endless questioning of sources at FAC and the lack of caffeine. Ealdgyth - Talk 14:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, do you yourself plan to redirect/merge this one? If not, I think perhaps it ought to just be an out and out delete, per the quite strong arguments for deletion that were made... I will watch here for responses. ++Lar: t/c 19:29, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I didn't exactly see strong arguments for outright deletion, but I definitely agree the person is not notable by herself, and per DGG is should be renamed. If this does not occur in a day or two, I will delete it. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 19:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
  • The AfD did not conclude that a rename should occur. In fact, of the 11 people who voiced an opinion on the AfD, only one suggested a rename. There's no logical conclusion that indicates this article should be renamed. It also should not be deleted. The AfD on strict voting grounds was a a dead match at 50%/50%, 5 five keep five for delete and one neutral. There's no consensus from this AfD as to what to do with the article. There are four other AfDs, three of which concluded as keep. There's no outstanding reason that has not been addressed by the most recent AfDs or all prior AfDs supporting deleting this article. It would be improper for you to unilaterally decide the article should be deleted when five AfDs have not reached the same conclusion. I urge you to reconsider your planned actions. Thank you, --SpectralAgent (talk) 20:01, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Saying that AfD isn't a vote, and therefore by implication my concerns are invalid, takes a giant broom and sweeps five AfDs under the rug in a highly dismissive manner. Only one person the last AfD suggested a rename. One. In the prior four AfDs, nobody mentioned rename. Nobody. You can't hand pick the conclusion you want from the AfD and decide the fate of the article. In effect, you're eliminating the purpose of AfD. A number of strong arguments in favor of keeping the article were raised. You're dismissing those arguments in favor of one suggestion to rename. Renaming the article is not a consensus decision, which AfD does rely upon. --SpectralAgent (talk) 20:54, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

The BLP1E concerns were addressed on multiple occasions. I suggest you read all the AfDs to gain a better understanding of what you are doing. There is no consensus to rename, not even anything more than a suggestion by one person to do so. One person making the suggestion doesn't make consensus. Renaming of the article would be acting without consensus. --SpectralAgent (talk) 21:22, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
It's been about a week since you closed this AFD. As the nominator, I agree it should at least be merged or redirected. Any decisions on the future of this article? AniMate 19:20, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 04:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Request for assistance

Hello there. At the moment, I am working on the Unreal Tournament article (want to get it to GA, then FA). So far, I have added a "Reception" section, and a new System Requirements table. Bits of the new re-written article are lingering in my sandbox at User:Wackymacs/Sandbox2- None of the new Gameplay section has been implemented yet. My goal is to get rid of the weapons/game types/special features lists, and then convert those to prose. I would most appreciate it if you could collaborate with me on this. Thanks! — Wackymacs (talk) 16:55, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Can I ask a favour?

I'm trying to cleanup Brood War for GA, but I'm really not satisfied with the synopsis section - it just doesn't seem to flow as naturally as I got it to for StarCraft. Would you mind giving it a look over and seeing if it all makes sense, possibly putting the plot section in particular through a copyedit for me? I'm sure I can lose some detail, but I can't see where. I'd also appreciate it if you could look over the development section: that's all the stuff I could find for it, is it sufficient? Lastly, as this is an expansion pack, there's not much I can say about gameplay that isn't already covered in the StarCraft article, but do you have any suggestions for expansion of the gameplay section? -- Sabre (talk) 15:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Myst

Well, I'm afraid I'm getting a 403 error (permission denied) on the url you've provided, so I unfortunately cannot comment on the alternate - I presume its of the library, like the other screenshot in the article? If it is, then the library comparison would be better due to its more recognised status in culture. However, what I had in mind was using the two screenshots alongside each other, allowing for easy comparison, as I've done on the right here. Naturally, you'll need to move the library shot up to replace it in the gameplay section. Depending on NFC requirements, you could always shove in a new image to where the library one currently is if you do this, a shot that's not in the Myst Age wouldn't go amiss. Oh, and thanks for indirectly getting me into playing Myst again, I've not played it in years... -- Sabre (talk) 21:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Pokemon gb pokedex.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Pokemon gb pokedex.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Video game FACs

I'm quite curious about your comments here. In particular, "Secondly, @Budding, one of the issues is that "this prose sucks" is not actionable; reviewers must provide concrete examples of what needs to be improved. Saying "the prose can be improved" is like saying to a woman "you could be prettier"- it doesn't offer ways for definite improvement." I sincerely resent your implications here. If you're implying that I go around saying only "this prose sucks" on video game FACs, then you are quite mistaken. Read my reviews, and you'll see I always give concrete examples of where articles can improved, whether I'm opposing or commenting. Moreover, I think you might want to read my posts again on the talk page; it doesn't seem from your misleading response that you understood what I was saying.
