Industrial breathing sets category

Hi, is the category for articles related to industrial breathing sets or just for makes (brand names) of industrial breathing sets? Of the 10 other articles in that category 5 of them aren't makes, and I'm unclear why mine rescue and Gas Control Equipment Ltd should be separated out from being alphabetized if the others are not. If we did separate everything that wasn't a make, that would leave only 5 of the 12 articles alphabetized. This isn't important to me one way or the other, I'm just curious and don't know of any Wikipedia style policies one way or the other. Dragomiloff 12:34, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

• Thanks for pointing this out. Category:Rebreathers has 20 members which are types of rebreather and 5 which are not, and I separated them. Category:Industrial breathing sets seems to have less % of members which are types of rebreather, I have now put all its members back into alphabetical order. The article was already becoming a focus of contention for more genralised naming issues, it also seems that we could do better in terms of splitting off a section, though personally I think 94KB is pretty small, anyway I see their is contention so I will reflect a bit before seeing if an afd would be appropraite. New Zealand cricket seasons

For your information, the WikiProject Cricket is establishing a season review article for every first-class season worldwide. A summary of trophy winners is okay as a quick lookup but there is a need for detailed information per season. At present, we are concentrating on getting the articles in place and the best way to do that in a reasonable time is by creating "lookalike" stubs that can easily be copied and pasted; the next phase (which is already underway re England) is to expand the stubs and provide the details. I suspect you've worked out what is going on but we are taking drastic measures to fix some horrible meddling with all the WotW entries (largely just copy and pasting entries and in the case of the novel leaving two parallel versions sitting round. But the reason I ask is that we always say PIE-lar here, accent on first syllable. Not like piler (like one who makes piles), or pillar (the support column). How do you say it in the UK? I just noticed that you've created a list of places in Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg copied from a different Wikipedia. Please don't add links to other wikipedias directly in article space. If you wish to make lists of interwiki links, please do it on the talk page of the article in question. In some cases, this will mean that this wikipedia will only link to a non-existing (redlink) article, but this is how the system works. On the other hand, a redlink will make others notice that an article is missing here, and it will hopefully lead to its creation. Most of the readers of this website can't read either German or Danish anyway, so they have no use for any such links. I also noticed that you add links from article space to images on other websites. If you wish to include images here, you need to upload them images to either this Wikipedia or to Commons and add the correct image license. Alternatively, you can make a link to them under the "external links" section or you can link to such material from the article's talk page. -lev

-lev is a very old and common ending in Danish placenames. It is at least 1,000 years old. The first syllable is normally but not always a man's name and -lev is derived from the verb "leve" which means to "live". E.g. Haderslev = "where Hathar lives", Marslev = "where Mar lives" (in both cases, the "S" is a genitive). Schleswig

It will take a little time but I'll try to look for answers to your questions, but I can start with those that I know of for sure:

- Mysunde. Mysunde is located on the north side of Schwansen, near a very narrow part of the Schlei. Any army wishing to outflank the Dannevirke would have to cross the Schlei here. Outflanking it to the west would not be possible under normal conditions since the area between Husum and the western extremity of the Dannevirke was marsh land which was flooded in times of war. Mysunde is located on the road between Kosel and Brodersby. See [1]. It is located in the north-western part of Kosel municipality, see a location map of the municipality at de:Kosel. If you read German, there is a bit more information here: [2], click "Die Gemeinden" and click "Kosel". The same location was the scene of battles during several wars.

- Railways. The Danish railway network was still in its infancy in 1864. North of the Kongeå, only a rail link between Copenhagen and Korsør existed as well as a railway from Århus leading to the north west. Had the Dannevirke been held, potential reinforcements from Copenhagen would have been transported by rail to Korsør and sailed the rest of the way to Flensburg. Such an operation would take a maximum of 2-3 days. The railway network in the duchies was much better: railways linked Hamburg, Kiel, Altona and the city of Schleswig. Less than 10 years before the war, railways opened from Eiderstedt and Husum to the city of Schleswig and from Schleswig to Flensburg. The duchies had no railways north of this point. More interesting is that the railway was never properly used during the evacuation of the Dannevirke with the result that great amounts of artillery, most importantly heavy artillery, were left behind by the Danish army. One explanation is that this was done so the Prussian army wouldn't notice the retreat. A more popular story claims that a waiting train had been instructed to head north at a specific time, which it did, but that the army had not yet arrived to the station due to heavy snow. The equipment transported to Dybbøl was essentially pulled there by soldiers and horses during very poor conditions, as the weather had changed to a snow storm. An iconic image exists of this retreat, and I'll upload a copy one of the days. The city of Schleswig, Flensburg, Sønderborg and Dybbøl were all connected by a road paved with crushed rock and this was the route the army took. The same road continued from Flensburg to Fredericia and Århus and this was the route later taken by the Prussian army when it invaded Jutland. The Dannevirke was abandoned at the orders of the commander, Christian de Meza, who feared that the poorly-repaired fortress couldn't hold out against a bigger foe. Even more so as the Schlei and the wetlands west of the Dannevirke were freezing. His calculations might have been correct, but the decision was not popular, and it is still considered almost a miracle that the army wasn't destroyed when the weather changed for the worse so the army had to march most of the way through a snowstorm. Hi Anthony. Unfortunately I can't find any really good sources regarding your questions about Arnæs and the thaw of 1864. As I remember the story, thaw came soon after the army's withdrawal to Dybbøl, but I haven't a good source at hand. Sorry. Around 600 men were caught or killed in action during the retreat and 10 men died of freezing. A number of Schleswigers left the army during the withdrawal, but according to one soldier, most of these returned in less than a day. Sprevjane

Recently, there have been problems with an anonymous editor adding sometimes spurious, sometimes POV and counterfactual information to articles on Old Prussia, and I decided to examine the his other edits to see if he was making similar edits to other articles; in doing so, I noticed that he took the entry Sprevjane and moved it to Sprewanen. As you recently edited the Sprevjane article, I thought I'd give you a heads up. The edit may reflect a German POV on the part of the contributor, who also added unreferenced etymological information (most likely folk etymology) linking Spevjane to Spree-wohner. Gas chamber

Hello.

I can't understand or believe that you would call my adding fact tags to the Gas Chamber article a type of holocaust denial. I find this very offensive. I add fact tags to many articles, and nobody has ever tried to skirt WP:CITE in such an irresponsible and childish way.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but you don't just throw around an accusation like that, especially when someone is going through pages trying to help by adding fact tags where appropriate and the article is in flagrant violation of WP:CITE.

I didn't consider that these fact tags could construed as controversial, and I was not thinking of them in the context of the holocaust denial debate. I was simply adding tags where settled policy says they belong.

I don't know if you are actively involved in the holocaust history issue - it's not a main area of study for me. If you are, I would suggest that you take a more reasonable approach when dealing with people, like myself, who have not looked into the issue. While I know enough about the documentation and study of the holocaust to know that it obviously occurred, I am startled by the level of aggression you have displayed in this instance and I fear it may provide ammunition for the very people whose deceits you seek to mitigate or eliminate from WikiPedia.

AA, do you have any references for "pah" as an alternate spelling for "pā"? However I think there is a difference between simplification and 'dumbing down', and my initial changes were not made without thought. I would suggest: up to 10 tonnes is not that 'small'; 'one-man' is irrelevant to a disambiguation page entry, which needs to be give as brief a description as will suffice for the purpose of disambiguation; not all dumpers are diesel powered and anyway that is also unnecessary detail; and the final 'around' is also superfluous and not, if I may be so bold, terribly good English. On the next two points, the question is whether this level of detail is needed to distinguish this usage of 'dumper' from all the other usages of the word, not whether it is necessary to a complete dictionary definition. I refer you to Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(disambiguation_pages)#Individual_entries See the penultimate bullet point before section 5.1.

Whips and crops

I'll go over to the article and try to clarify what I wrote. I don't think it's a USA vs UK thing so much as a riding discipline thing: In the US, a "crop" is usually used for what we call Hunt seat riding and show jumping. It is short (under 24" in some cases), fairly stiff, and has a little popper on the end. A similar tool is used by jockeys in horse racing where the words "crop", "whip" and "bat" are used interchangably for the same item, possibly a regional variation there. Rodeo people call their crops a "bat." A "whip" is longer, what may be seen in Dressage or Saddle seat riding, up to 43" in dressage, longer in other disciplines. It also probably isn't all that cosmically important! ;-) Montanabw 07:11, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I do think "bat" as a word interchangable with "crop" is possibly an American thing; we too normally consider a "bat" the wooden stick used in baseball or cricket! <grin> But then, most people think a "crop" is somethig that you grow in the ground for food, too! But basically, in the world of horse whips, think of a crop as a short whip or about 24 inches, or think of a whip as a slightly longer, more flexible crop, whatever floats your boat...everyone says "dressage whip," for example, referring to the riding whip that is no more than 43 inches long; no one says "dressage crop." Radio Times table

I notice you have revised the 'wikitable'-class table I recently created on the Radio Times page to include cell-spacing, border, and background colour variables. While the former table conveniently adjusted its size according to browser and screen resolution, the new table looks (to be brutally honest) ugly in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, leaving a large space above.

Having studied WP:TABLE and related pages carefully, I know of no guidelines which suggest the original layout was incorrect. If I am wrong, please correct me on my talk page, but for now I have reverted your edits, if only for æsthetic reasons.

Alloy and Alloyer

Anthony, technically your example would be correct, if pure niobium were added to steel, since niobium is a pure element, and an alloy (noun) is "a metal that is a combination of two or more elements, at least one of which is a metal.", you would be adding an element to the molten metal. In a practical usage one would not add niobium to steel in a ladle because the melting point is so high for niobium that the tapping temperature of steel would not be great enough to create the new alloy (i.e. niobium containing steel). One would use ferroniobium. Ironically in actuality the steel itself is an alloy so the niobium addition you describe would be adding another element to an alloy to create a new alloy.

In my metallurgical foundry background I tried to think of an example where a pure metal, or element, might be added to a molten metal. The one that comes to mind is adding copper (say 99.9% pure) to ductile iron or gray iron (both of which, like steel, are alloys themselves). In practice we would say "add copper to that ladle" but we would not say "add copper alloy" to that ladle. On the other hand, if one wanted to add chromium to the same ladle we would use ferrochromium (which is an alloy) but we might say either "add chrome to that ladle" or "add ferrochrome to that ladle". I have seen and heard the term "add alloy(s) to the ladle" but I have not ever seen or heard "add alloyer to the ladle". It looked unusual to me. However, my experience is in America only so if that expression is more common in other english speaking areas of the world let me know because I would be interested in learning that. Anthony, for plant subfamilies and other intermediate group, I think the usual practice is that the stubs can remain indefinitely, because they function as placeholders while additional work is being done of the individual genera or species. If you did mean to place it, I apologize; just do so again, but it might help if you checked the nature of other similar articles first.

The image is taken from one of the webcams on that page. When I tagged these images I couldn't get the {{db-copyvio}} template to display the URL properly, so I gave up. Deletion of "ShareASale" article on 4/25/2007

Hi Anthony,

I just noticed that you deleted the article for the affiliate network called ShareASale on 4/25/2007 (see deletion log). You entered as reasons "timed-expired prod: Nn web space sales agency; spam?". The site is up see [12]. Although I have my doubts that the site was down very long (if down at all), would I like to know if and how you checked that it is really the site that is down and not some other problem (DNS, your ISP etc.) that caused your inability to access the site. I am saying this, because several thousand people (if not more) around the globe would notice if the site is down and start screaming and yelling, because it would cause them problems as well. The article about the company is certainly no spam, although it had a lot of room for improvement. I am not sure, but I believe it was still flagged as stub. WP:N is not in question here I believe, but we can discuss this as well, in a WP:AFD discussion, if you feel the need to flag the article as such, after it was restored.

Your deletion: Biblical Prophecy Fulfilled?

Please explain why since I found related articles on Wikipedia very negatively biased in terms of religion. If I was proselytizing, articles like Evidence of prophecy, which there seems to be no complaints about are doing the same - except opposite i.e. the bible is a fairytale. Which parts of my article are non-objective so that I can correct it if so? If the items mentioned are not properly motivated that's a different story. I expected some edits, but a spam-equivalent deletion !!??

Hi, I must insist that you first perform a check of the users contributions and check to see how long a user has edited before even considering filing a report at WP:RFC/N, if an account hasn't edited, ignore it. If you then feel the user still needs to change their username, you MUST follow the policy as set out here which involves you asking the user to change their username. If and only if they refuse and fail to provide a good reason for not changing their username, do you file a report at WP:RFC/N. The behaviour you have shown in reporting Ihcoyc (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) is very worrying, and if this behaviour were to be repeated with a new user, there is a very good that this user may never or cease to edit Wikipedia. But now concerning the pronunciation: really, that belongs much farther down, and phrased much more cautiously. Now such a sentence presupposes that Yahweh is the actually correct reading, which is not current consensus. It is only the most popular under the proposed readings. Next, I think that your actual description would be open to discussion. (Also, on what grounds the first he is a consonant, while still having a shwa quiescens, and not, say, hatef patah.) Manchester

Please could I ask why you reverted the edit I made regarding Manchester, I clearly stated that I inserted the table but now seems useless since there is alot more to Manchester than just the South of it, if we did a section every village/towns in Manchester then we would have to create another article for it. Just in case you're curious (you did wonder aloud), to the best of my knowledge there is no cleaner synonym. The slightly authoritative TV Tropes Wiki calls it a mindscrew, but admits that that's a bowlderization.

Fight Club and Slaughterhouse Five, for instance, are primarily about their anti-consumerism and anti-war messages. Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet

You recently moved Bombardier CRJ family to Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet per an "Uncontroversial move request". Howeever, it should have been listed as "Controversial", as I opposed it on the article's talk page. The move request was so badly done that I did not think to check to see where it was listed. I reverted it before I discovered in had been moved as "Uncontroversial". At this point, it shoild eitehr be listed properly, or you revert my reversion, and I will formally request it be moved either to bact to Bombardier CRJ family or a new move to Bombardier CRJ, depending on consensus. • Why did you delete the BlueTie page. I specifically wrote on the talk page of the article that I was looking for some guidance as to why you people are so against the page. The page is no different than that of similar companies such as Zimbra and Google. All that I asked is that you TELL me what the problem was and it would be immediately revised or removed. BlueTie is a prominent company in the Sofware as a Service industry and the article again is not intended for promotional purposes or advertising. I thought it would be nice to get involved with wikipedia but I am starting to think that wikipedia is more of a censored outlet rather than an accurate one. I note you've contested the speedy on Nick Toons 2 - how come? The Nick Toons website makes no mention of this channel, the sole "reference" is to a posting on a message board that doesn't in fact mention this channel once (There's a - single - reference to "Nick Toons +1" on the message board, but that would just be a one-hour timeshifted rebroadcast, not a separate station). There are 0 Ghits aside from Wikipedia and a single forum post "As 'NickToons' is doing well in the ratings, perhaps Nickelodeon will look at launching 'NickToons +1' or 'NickToons 2'?". What is there to salvage? Hi there. I tagged the page with {{db-vandalism}} based on the creator, one of the numerous socks of Graham Heavy (talk · contribs). You're right though, there is a stub worth of real material there. But 2/3 of the article was vandalism (which I've now removed). Since you're from the area, would you be able to look at a couple of pages that get frequently vandalised by Mr. Heavy and socks to see if any of the crap that they're adding is real? I realise they all exist. It's just that some of the changes by these socks are obvious vandalism (anything to do with Moonbobs and Sally Boseman), some are questionable, and some are probably ok. However, all of their contributions with respect to these pages have been treated as vandalism and reverted by myself and others. As well, I looked at both the Bare pages (Bare, Lancashire and Bare, Morecambe) and both were created by one of the socks, and have essentially the same current content. Our Club

• I wish you had not been quite so speedy in deleting "Our Club" from Wikipedia. I last checked Wikipedia Saturday before leaving for the left coast Sunday. I arrived today to find the article gone. It was unique for a) being a coop gymnasium, b) at $30/month being affordable, and c) being self-supporting, not begging for donations like the YMCA, or whatever, d) paying taxes (!) normal regular real estate taxes, (perhaps as non-profit not paying corporate taxes though) and c) offering most classes free including dozens of aerobics, and water classes weekly. It should be a model for all future coop gyms in the country. Instead we have Ys begging for corporate suppport and not paying taxes, county supported gyms, etc. All essentially non-viable institutions. This one should show the way if properly (NPOV) presented. I am obviously POV and tried to be cautious in presenting the club. Too cautious, I guess. It is gone now. Are we so tight on space in Wikipedia for crying out loud? A couple of thousand bytes. It was never intended as an advertisement. It is a not-for-profit group like the YMCA which probably has a page, is not a for-profit like Gold's Gym, which has a page. It often has a waiting list (capped at 2,000 members). It doesn't need members particularly. Nerds that browse Wikipedia aren't likely to join anyway! I am not a founder, nor on the board, nor have I ever been or am likely to be. I am just a dues paying member. I help edit several hundred articles on Wikipedia. I should add that one argument that could be used for the inclusion of Gold's, the YMCA, and so forth are that they are historically notable (and quite sizeable, if that matters). • I think Category:Non-Christian religious placenames in Britain is too detailed to be placed directly under Category:Place names. Compare the other much more general categories under this category. It fits under Category:Religious places and this is only one level down. If you feel strongly that it fits under Category:Place names for another reason, I think you need to add some other intervening category. Currently I am trying to diffuse the Places names category since there are too many low-level entries. This applies even more to articles than categories at the moment! Faiyum

Please move El Faiyum to Faiyum as per this discussion. Atlases differ from one spelling to the other, and as a native speaker of Arabic, I can assure you that most English versions do not use the el or al defenite articles (meaning the) in front of proper names, because it's ubiquitous in Arabic and clearly wrong. If we start doing this, then 99% of the names of cities in the Middle East will have el in front of them. This is simply unreasonable. Thank you.

Anthony, I am most surprised you moved this page! Did you not see that Lanternix has previously moved it before and been reverted, and the comments against the move on the talk page (at top)? He has never taken it to the talk page himself. The mummy portraits have been well known internationally for over a century under this spelling, used by the majority of musums etc. He did not even ask you to move this one I know see. As far as the mummy portraits are concerned, the Al- is in fact very often added, for example by the British Museum, & would be my first choice, but I will settle for Fayum. There is also an issue between the current spelling of the town and the governate, which seem to differ. See the talk page. Johnbod 12:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Shahrazad

Not wishing to be a pain or anything, but I'm not sure if this was as uncontroversial as the nominee suggests. A simple Googlefight gives it to the German/Russian name by 1m+ to 186,000.[20] The irony is, of course, that Burton's version was also only a transliteration (of the original "Shahrzād"), so you could argue it wasn't intrinsically correct (sic) either.

Now I'm not saying I would have actually opposed the move; in fact I'd be amenable to Shahrzād if given a choice of the three, but that's just me (and my eyebrows are going up at the fact that there's a redlink in my last sentence). However, I feel that there's a little more room for debate than the nominee indicated, given WP:COMMONNAME. Certainly, looking at the number of links he had to fix in advance of going to WP:RM,[21] the "more common" use on WP might mirror the more common use in Google? (I didn't do a specific count, so I can't be absolutely certain). I guess I also kinda feel a teensy weensy bit miffed by that kind of "pre-emptive" editing -- I prefer to see people request the move first, then change the links if/when consensus is demonstrated.

Anyhoo, just thought I'd let you know. To be honest I'm not sure I expect you to do anything;. I guess all I'm really doing is indicating that if an editor reverts your move in the next few weeks, he/she isn't necessarily an isolated editor acting entirely against consensus. There is currently a thread at WP:ANI about two recent page moves you've made that were under the uncontroversial section. The page moves were clearly not uncontroversial, and were reverted. CSD G7

Hi AA- I noticed that you deleted Image:TFC Norman Blake 2003.JPG and Image:TFC Gerry Love 2003.JPG as G7 (self-requested delete). If you look at the log, you'll see that I clumsily did the same thing and then changed my mind (same goes for Image:Teenage Fanclub Live 2003.JPG). The uploader (User:Megamanic) is fed up with WP and is leaving, and trying to take his images with him. As far as I know this is a violation of the GFDL, since the uploader released his control over the work when he tagged it. I'd like to re-undelete the images and put them back in the articles where they currently live as redlinks, but didn't want to revert you without your OK. My understanding of G7 isn't laid out explicitly anywhere as far as I can tell, but exactly this situation is addressed at Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G7. Let me know what you think. I am confused on why the SPSA entry was deleted. SPSA is a non-profit governmental agency. Other local government bodies also have Wikipedia, so I am unsure of the reasoning behind the deletion.

There was an editorial dispute between me and Nomen about his repeated insertion of unsourced weasel word criticisms, but we're both skeptics. Take a look here, and you'll see where he was involved with a disagreement over the move with no less than five other editors before he chose to list it as "uncontroversial".

I've been for a while working on the format of the site, and I've managed to translate the interface with the help of Akapochtli (the only native Nahuatl speaker) as well as added the tagline and some other things. The truth is we do have a term on "talk": "tēixnāmiquiliztli", as you can see on the tab above the page. However, neither I nor other user on Huiquipedia has figured out a way to make the change. We've been writing Wikipedia pages on the name "Huiquipedia:" but they appear as another article, not a special page.
