User:ThatSchoolEditor101/List of islands by area

This is the list of islands by area sorted by descending order. This list only shows islands above 4 square kilometers.

This list of islands by area is a constant work in progress and will never be finished, just like Wikipedia.

This list contains many islands that the main article does not include outside its limits.

Excludings

edit

These are not included in the list. The reason why they are excluded is because they are man-made or a continental landmass.

Artificial islands

edit

René-Levasseur Island is one of the largest artificial islands in the world.

Artificial islands are not included in the list because artificial islands are man-made, not natural. They are made by dredging a lot of sand or expanding small islands.

Some examples are Flevopolder, Yumeshima and Ellis Island.

You can see the list of artificial islands by area in this section.

Continental landmasses

edit

Mainland Australia is a continental landmass but unlike other continental landmasses, they are also an island.

The continental landmasses are not islands despite being surrounded by water.
