Human trafficking articles edit

I've finally copy/pasted them all in! I was bored this morning and had some time to kill. Now eventually I'll clean them all up (like this for Ecuador today). Hopefully none of this new batch gets nominated for deletion, like they always do... They're not perfect but it's way easier to start from a well-researched public domain report than from scratch! What are you busy editing lately? Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:44, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Some very cool articles! The tomb one makes me really want to visit Egypt. Though after my post-vacation health ordeal I think another trip soon to the developing world will prompt a big argument with my parents! (Every time I plan a new trip--especially trips by myself--we have the same argument, and the resolution is always, "We had this discussion last time; I disagreed then and I disagree now; I am buying my plane tickets with my own money; I will try to update you on my safety when I am there.") Actually we had almost no articles about human trafficking before. I think 95% of them were added by me. Most still need to be edited and reformatted a bit, though I see a few got wikified by other people. I'll get to it eventually... Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:58, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
BTW if you are looking for more articles to translate, check out this page in my userspace. It is a list of all articles started by Thierry Caro, a user on fr.wiki who has been extremely prolific, especially in writing basic encylopedic topics about La Reunion. All his articles are great and probably 90-95% don't have an equivalent in en.wiki. Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:02, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Povilas Budrys edit

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Povilas Budrys requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the notability of the subject,  . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Abductive (reasoning) 22:47, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Dr Blofeld. Always nice to get an attagirl.... Im in Chiapas this week (Holy Week is vacation for just about all of Mexico including me), so there will be a ton a pics going up starting next week and Ive already started finding information to start Chiapas articles with the re-write of the state article. Ill be hitting Palenque tomorrow. That article is fine as Simon B has most Mayan topics well covered but I should be able to add to the photographic collection and do some better organization. Then its off to San Cristobal de las Casas and probably Tuxtla Gutiérrez, two article which do need more work. Hey, in response to the request over on Commons have uploaded the ones to the right. I personally prefer the district-in-county (with an Inset) to district-in-England, as this means the unitary authorities are consistent with the non-unitary districts - so York and Hambleton can both show where they are in N Yorks, and the inset shows where they are in England. Like I said over on Commons, Bristol is the exception as it is a ceremonial county, if I use the former Avon area as the county that would work though.--Nilfanion (talk) 10:26, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Mapping York edit

It's good to show where York is within North Yorkshire, but there's a bit of a problem, for me at least: the big red maple-leaf blob designating "York" actually delineates the City of York Unitary authority, which includes a whole lot of villages and small towns that aren't part of York itself. If you get a map by clicking the coordinates, that shows York itself within the ring-road, but the unitary authority stretches quite a bit further in most directions. Any thoughts on this? I'm sure that the same problem may be recurring with other UAs. Best. --GuillaumeTell 21:13, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

What I mean is that even articles in the main space which are to be expanded could be transferred to a user page, as we have been doing in the past, so that we have time to find reliable references and text to add without rushing to meet the 5 day dead line of DYK nomination, particularly when all three of us are working simultaneously on many articles. Geology edit

I am moderately loaded with all kind of copyediting/writing tasks these weeks and thus am undecided on mining. FYI. We've got USGS. It is comprehensive, reliable and PD (can copy/paste nearly anything, just add a tag when pasting their texts). They are also reasonably up to date (with a 1-2 years delay for some low-priority reports). Most reports they write in several ways - brief/extended, US/world-centric, local/regional, and sometimes the brief version is actually more informative. Nomination for DYK: Salah Asuhan edit

I have responded to your question with:

... that Mochtar Lubis's novel Salah Asuhan is considered a prime example of modern Indonesian literature?

Perhaps. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:21, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
As for who considers it a classic... This paper notes that it is pretty much universal. Phrasing it "... that critics consider Abdul Muis's novel Salah Asuhan one of the best examples of early modern Indonesian literature" seems a bit too wordy. The specific critics cited in the article are red links (even though both are well-known critics of Indonesian literature), so they would not go on the main page. Instead of AFD-ing it, as promised, I have come to you. 29°37′N 98°28′E / 29.617°N 98.467°E / 29.617; 98.467 is located far to the east of anything under the control of Nyingchi Prefecture, so either the administrative sorting or the coordinates listing is incorrect. I have gone through the settlements at List of towns and villages in the Tibet Autonomous Region and have begun moving several articles that are at "_____, Tibet"; the general spirit of WP:NC-ZH seems to ask for county-level DABbing (i.e. more specific than the province-level) for townships and smaller divisions. --HXL's Roundtable and Record 01:54, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Codoi edit

Thought I could be successful in retrieving administrative information for a few moments when I saw "错堆", or "Cuodui", which sounds like "Codoi", near the coordinates you gave. Cogo edit

Completely in the dark. Nothing in Google Earth near the coordinates that sounds (in Mandarin) remotely like Cogo, and my guess that it is somewhere in either Tingri or Dinggye County, and I don't have the time to guess what could sound like "Cogo" on xzqh.org.

You know that could refer to a person as well? I was distracted by the IPL cricket match. It is still on. Before I could start editing Loire River article you have already added the text to conservation and also list of rivers and tributaries. That is real fast work. One thing I am not sure is the meaning of the word "dophin" which MS has tagged in the article. It may be better to delete it though it could be referenced. I think it is now adequately expanded. As regards Moscow, as I have mentioned earlier, I am shy of adding to large city articles anymore. Wildlife articles interest me and let us go through the African mosaic on this subject. From the time we started, we have covered more than 10% of the countries in Africa. Sorry about my previous edit, I am on a Hungarian keyboard but the computer thought I was on an English one, so I missed. I will have a look at this, I cannot promise, you can imagine over this weekend the missus and I are a bit busy, we are arranging to be married, trying to buy the property from the landlady, and I started a new job last week. I think it is said somewhere the three most stressful things in life are getting married, moving house, and changing jobs: actually I haven't found them that stressful but I still have to get used to this Hungarian keyboard, so please excuse my errors.

I will have a look and then tell you yes or no, but please treat this as a courtesz note.

As always, your hulye angol (and hulye magyar)

I cannot find the tilde. It is not on the Hungarian keyboard and I changed to English layout but it still doesn't work. So excuse me for not signing, but I am always,

An assist, if you could... edit

In writing User:MichaelQSchmidt/Paris in Spring (nearly ready for mainspace, I decided to also write articles for the redlinks for Franz Schulz, Keene Thompson, and Dwight Taylor. I'd appreciate it if you might consider stopping in at User:MichaelQSchmidt/Franz Schulz and doing some judicious trimming of the filmography. Also, if you find any suitable additional sources from this search, feel free to add them. I see a nice shared DYK on the near horizon. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 02:41, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for looking in. :) Both Paris in Spring and Franz Schulz are now live. Any suggestions for suitable DYKs? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:38, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Dwight Taylor (writer) is now live as well. Same request for an eye to catch any mistakes. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:07, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Kavikuyil edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Kavikuyil. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - kavikkuyil. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at kavikkuyil - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Thalapathi (Ping Back) 07:55, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

First of all this isn't a malayalam film. Its a 1977 Tamil film directed by Devaraj Mohan starring Rajinikanth and Sridevi. An article for the same film exists. check here. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 08:28, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
As far as I know, the following films are Tamil films, rest all are malayalam films: Apart from Kavikkuyil, Poonthalir, Rosaappo Ravikkai Kaari and Chittu Kuruvi are Tamil films starring Sivakumar. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 09:10, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Vensatry is right. Here's the filmography of Devaraj Mohan. I have removed the films Kavikuyil, Annakili, Chittu Kuruvi and Aaru Manikkoor from Mohan (director)'s filmography. Aaru Manikkoor is a dubbed version of a Tamil film. Here's the source for that. -- Arfaz (talk) 09:53, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, wasn't me though how added those films to his article!.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:55, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Could you also add some info on films listed at Rajinikanth filmography and Kamal Haasan filmography released during the 1970s. Lot of films are missing info. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 11:09, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Coord bounds/precision in Template:Location map China x edit

Could you take a look at my most recent creations? They seem to have slight problems, especially when coordinates of a place at some extremity in the province are entered. See, for example, Linyi Airport. The pinpoint is marked too close to the southern border with Jiangsu. Thanks much.

PS: the ones I have created so far are Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, and Shandong. --–HXL's Roundtable and Record 07:30, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, HLJ, Liaoning, and Inner Mongolia (?) should be correct now. Jilin isn't. It places my mark for Meihekou City (41°32′N 125°41′E / 41.533°N 125.683°E / 41.533; 125.683) right on the western border when it is a rather far 43 kilometres (27 mi) away.

I found many reliable references for the lake and also for the village Qaraoun. I have completed my inputs. You may like to add and post it as a double hook. The lake could probably be the main part of the hook with the img.--Nvvchar. 10:15, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Please don't link Shea nut for a double link. We can do it as separtae hook. Nassau fort is a non-existent fort. Will it carry weight? I have started it but I am unable to resolve the infobox problem. I could not locate any images either.--Nvvchar. 12:19, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Your not suitable tag on N.T. Rama Rao page is difficult to understand. George W' Bush's page has a list of his domestic agenda preferences, Bill Clinton's page has a list of his domestic agenda priorities, N.T. Rama Rao has a list of his movie projects. A well referenced list of his domestic priorities (without any editorialilzing ) seems like a valid knowledge addition to a very notable politician's biography. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.14.67.137 (talk) 15:44, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey, how's it going? The article has had a few copyedits, and I'm going to try a few more editors. Can you address the clarification tag regarding his illness on the set of Joe Kidd's impact on any production delay? It's pulling from the McGilligan source. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 23:56, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

I'd say the article is in pretty good shape. It's comprehensive and covers all areas of his life. We'd be better off with fine-tuning it for now, see it's impact at FAC (since we've already incorporated improvements from the PR, GAN, and copyedits). The article can always be expanded with new details, but we should see how it stands to FA standards. There are a few sections already that could use some trimming, so we should try and see what can be pulled over to the subarticles. If you have some important details from sources that should be included, feel free to add, and once you're done, we can bring out some of the lesser details for the subs. --Happy editing! Wedding dresses edit

"Muttley snigger" - Template:British Royal wedding dresses Bob talk 15:02, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
If you have the time Dr., the pink Chanel suit Jackie K. wore on 22 November 1963 should have an article too (much about it in the new Justine Picardie Chanel biography and also on the web). A very iconic/historic outfit. Ericoides (talk) 18:10, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Awesome, thanks. Will get around to creating that shortly. Stubbed the wedding dress, will expand that and create the presidential outfit tomorrow, hokay? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:49, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Excellent. And then of course there is "that dress" (Hurley/Versace), which is certainly sufficiently notable. Ericoides (talk) 07:54, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

You know, I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong, and my belief in the ridiculousness of Wedding dress of Kate Middleton having its own article was wrong. But I once again contest that the nomination itself was at all "ill-advised". My point that the article was without precedent and thus a symptom of recentism was entirely valid (surprisingly nobody cited the pre-existing Union Jack dress as a non-wedding counter-example), and was proved thus by the fact that all the other wedding dresses articles were created as a direct result of the AfD discussion. I think that proves that the AfD was productive and achieved, in a different way, at least part of my original intention - not allowing the article to stand alone as though Wikipedia believed this wedding unique.

Anyway, I do also want to thank you for going out and researching and creating all those other dress articles, I actually have found them to be a moderately interesting read. -Kez (talk) 13:51, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, well I don't write articles I don't think are encyclopediic, interesting or valuable, certainly.. Nono, I don't object to you for one second in nominating it, I can see why you did, which is why I didn't attack you or Case or any of the others in favour of deleting it. Bad timing yes, but not completely unwarranted given that it does initially seem a ludicrious subject to have an article on and does wreak of recentism. Like the Wedding cake of Tony and Cherie Blair or something. If a nomination truly is lame I usually say so, I created the others because I wanted people to try to view it as a topic from a different angle using an abundance of sources and to sort of think, well yes, it can be a notable subject if written well. Yes, I personally think it meets requirements because of the massive coverage and sources for it but I can see why is seemed like a ludicrous subject to be covering and one of those "what is wikipedia becoming" type of scenarios. Generally I would agree that individual wedding dresses are not exactly top encyclopedic priority and the wedding dresses of most are not notable. But the top royal wedding dresses are different it has to be said, the occasions are so massive on a global scale and so hyped and the dresses tend to receive almost as much coverage as the weddings themselves. And months of work goes into making them and creating something grand or unique they became very important moments in fashion. I agree that its blown way out of proportion, its just a dress to many of us males, but the massive coverage they receive, even if I myself think is exaggerated. makes it necessary for wikipedia to cover it I think.. I do think the subject is encyclopedic if written well and sourced well. There are some iconic dresses which do exist aside from British royalty, like Grace Kelly and two outfits of Jacqueline Kennedy in particular which I definitely think are notable in their own right given the coverage of them but the majority of individual dresses are not notable and a lines needs to be drawn. I do not think though for one second given the bias on here we are in danger of having this topic exploited and really non notable articles started. Now if somebody creates an article on the Wedding dress of Kerry Katona for instance, who I probably respect one of the least out of all "celebs" then we have a problem!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:05, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Well done on the pink suit article, very nice. I've added some quotes and details from the Picardie Chanel biography. Not had time to look at "That Dress" yes, which I see you have also started. Regards, Ericoides (talk) 07:24, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

But please do it on user page so that we have enough time to add, as such an article is likely to invite lot of attention and also comments. I have started this User:Nvvchar/Aman Sveti Stefan. There is a Montenegro article in National Geographic referred in Sveti Stefan. I could not access it. You may be able to get the details. I have also started on Bahrain Fort here User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Tarapith, ‎ which you may like to add. I am slow today, distracted due to some professional problem. Tomorrow being Sunday should be a better day.--Nvvchar. 13:33, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Filmfare Awards Tamil edit

Filmfare Best Actor Award (Tamil) is incomplete on wikipedia. Tha data is not available for several years. I suggest you to expand it. Even other categories are incomplete. Its very difficult to find sources from internet but am sure book sources wold be available. The data is incomplete before 1970s and some are missing in the 1980s and 1970s. For Bollywood (Filmfare Awards) a complete list of nomination apart from winners are available in filmfare website itself. But for Filmfare Awards South its incomplete. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 14:55, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Great Escape edit

Precisely my point: an obsolete and inaccurate stub about a small business that has been closed for four years. No reason to have an article about it in the past, present, or future, but can't be deleted without effort. Was the point of this to prove me right?—Kww(talk) 20:45, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

No, it was to prove myself right. And it proved me right on two scores. Thanks for that!! I found coverage in three reliable sources so it could have been kept, but it is only worth keeping content which is notable, right? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:47, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure precisely what you proved yourself right about. Could a substantial article be created on The Great Escape using independent sources? Probably not. You've used paid travel guides, where the travel guide prints what it has been told by the business owner (I think Hunter's even charges a fee) and does so without fact checking. Frommer's and Hunter's both fall in that category. The Hannau citation appears to be fraudulent: a 1975 print date, referred to a Google Books page that doesn't show any data, when the hotel whose existence it claims to source wasn't built until 1994, 19 years after the publication date.
I could easily create an article on it based on primary sources (I have the business records for the place sitting on the shelf behind me as I type), but independent reliable sources would be difficult to find and not provide sufficient information to build any article greater than a stub.—Kww(talk) 21:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

The information is accessed in google books which provides snippet views which are not accessible view a direct google book link as with that 1975 source, so it is certainly not a fraudulent reference. I know which hotels are generally notable or not but I was curious to see if anything could have become of that particular hotel, given the very weak claim to notability. 10 rooms is usually an indicator that the hotel is not notable (although there ar emany in UK around that size like old manor houses which have wide coverage and are notable), but I wanted to see if you would do anything with it or indeed prove to me its not notable, which you did. Notable hotels generally have fairly detailed coverage in multiple publications which render them notable... There is often a chance that a place does have local document coverage and sources beyond the web to indicate notability, I have to say though it does look a nice little place though and to run a hotel on a small Carribbean island would seem very attractive, but maybe stressful. Running a hotel has always interested me myself but its supposed to be very stressful... Now Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino is notable as seen here...

As for being anti-sub stubs, fair enough. But it is very disappointing when I see personal attacks on my overall editing and people claiming I am more damaging to wikipedia than positive when I make massive efforts to improve content like this and this. Most of the people who have ever expressed disgust at my wikipedia contributions are usually those who have contributed less in the last two years to wikipedia than I have in the last two hours.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:12, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

If you seriously wanted to create articles on Bonaire Hotels, your best bets would be Plaza, Divi Flamingo, and Captain Don's. There could even be a decent article written about Captain Don himself. The Sunset Beach could probably be sourced, too, even though it has been out of business since the 80s. There was always enough stink of government corruption about its construction, bankruptcy, and eventual destruction that people enjoyed writing about it.—Kww(talk) 21:38, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Indeed, incidentally those were the three I had intended to create, which are dictated as the most notable by sources. I'm doing a country/entity thing with a few other editors, so Bonaire needs to be covered... There are a handful of others which could probably be included too but are not as notable, we'll see. Given the amount of countries with no coverage whatosever its probably best to create the most notable few first for each place.. I'll start Divi tomorrow and Captain Don's if I have time. I am always interested in old biographies, I will look into this character, thanks for identifying him.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:44, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Wedding Dress AfD edit

Since it's been closed as a very questionable speedy keep (I haven't made up my mind yet whether to go to deletion review on this one, although this is the first time in years on WP I've felt like opening one) and you are an editor for whom I have considerable respect, I owe you a response here to this.

As I said or implied several times, I most certainly do not think we should say nothing about the dress anywhere. I merely question why it, or any other individual garment worn by a single individual for one occasion, is something to which we should devote a standalone article. By the logic of the AfD, shouldn't we then have an article on Neil Armstrong's space suit? I mean, it was worn by one person once on a momentous occasion, designed especially for that person and manufactured at great expense of unique materials ... what makes it different from the wedding dress? And, why not then have articles on the wedding cake for the same reason? It was unique, artistic, cost a lot of money and definitely won't be used again, either.

I appreciate your concern for the history of costume and your points about the enduring qualities of various historic garments. What I, and several other people at that AfD, would have no objection to would be a list article about royal wedding dresses (and, pace my other comments, perhaps a separate one on other notable single-use garments). Certainly that would be a place to start developing this ... perhaps instead of going to DRV I can bring it up at requested merges? Daniel Case (talk) 01:14, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Daniel, happening to come here, and knowing you as a friend, I really might be the appropriate person to say that the general view here will almost certainly be that the article is acceptable, and that trying to argue otherwise will, right or wrong, not accomplish anything--except, of course, attract further interest in the subject (which is sometimes a dilemma about going to deletion review--I think the more you argue the more such articles we will end up having.). I too have seen articles which should not be here but which we will never remove, and I deal with this by trying to forget about them. (My own opinion is that individual works of art can be notable, including costumes, which can be notable even if never worn at all. That something that may not be particularly artful can still be notable because of popular interest is probably unfortunate, but true nonetheless. That is was worn on a unique occasion probably adds to the popular view of its notability. ) DGG ( talk ) 05:49, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
An article on Armstrong's space suit would be fascinating. Ericoides (talk) 06:06, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Honestly though I have no intention of really pursuing with many more articles about dresses. It isn't exactly my thing, but a change to write about certainly.... But I think some coverage of individual costumes are fine. I'd be interested in medeival costumes and things like that from other countries which have a lot of coverage but it is not really a major interest.. I know the topic of wedding dresses seems like a "O my god, what on earth is wikipedia becoming" but the staggering amount of sources which exist particularly on Diana's dress make them notable. Jimbo has a point that if we can have nearly 100 Linux crappy stubs then we can certainly have 10 articles on the most notable wedding dresses.. I'd have to agree with you I scoff at a lot of the topics thousands of people think notable and interesting. For instance why does that annoying Bieber kid singing a crappy teeny bop song have over 340 million hits on youtube and a fascinating documentary on Ancient Egypt only having 5000. Same goes for manga and those highly irritating cartoons and comic books which I detest like the plague but many people think them notable, like User:Fram for instance who seems to think comics are more notable than real world villages.. As DGG said we've both taken articles to AFD snd felt exapserated at how it could be kept. One such I remember is Ivy Bean as a biographical article. So wrong... Notable yes for being the oldest user which warrants a summary in both the Facebook and Twitter articles but a biography about her is just way off. Her life is NOT notable, it is a product of social network obsession that we have an article on her. But there was nothing I could do about it. And there is nothing you can do about the fact that a lot of people are interested and even obsessed with the royal family and the overly hyped weddings. They are very popular with people in general and the wedding dresses are talked about as much as the weddings themselves.. Of course you could merge all into an article on royal wedding dresses, I would not object but I think they meet guidelines as separate articles because of their coverage and I think you'd find if you opened a debate on it people would rather have separate articles on them. Obviously if you want to write about say Ferguson's wedding dresses and the lesser royals than a merge might be a better idea.. Personally most of the time I think the royal family is hyped and it unnecessary. But an awful lot of people are highly interested by them. There are thousands if not millions who would be interested in reading about anything to do with Diana for instance... Like somebody tried to also delete the article on Kate Middleton a few years back and also the article on the wedding. It had like 250 k hits on the day, which is massive. They are topics people will look for, I'm sure. And I think the royal dresses will attract a fair number of page views... If Neil Armstrong's space suit actually has detailed coverage in multiple books then it is possible. Regardless of whether everybody will like it or not, if a subject has multiple coverage in books it is almost always notable I find.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Just out of interest, there already is an article on Neil Armstrong's space suit: Apollo/Skylab A7L. Don't know whether I'd describe it as "fashionable". It is white, though, which I gather is quite the "in" thing at the moment. Bob talk 10:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

There ya go... Extra terrestrial fashion next... I think though that a merger now would be unfeasible look at Wedding dress of Queen Victoria for example. That's a legit article in its own right and a list would be ridiculously bloated. More potential articles here. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:37, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm done with the dresses now anyway!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:58, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Wedding dress of Queen Victoria edit

Added to Plaza Resort Bonaire and also to Wedding dress of Queen Victoria. Hopefully, adequately done. I will to the other one on Wedding dress of Princess Alexandra of Denmark also soon. In India, more than the Queens (Maharanis), the wedding dress of Maharajas is more popular, probably Rajasthan leads the list; of course only after the Moghuls. DYK for Shaare Zedek Synagogue, Winnipeg edit

Hi, I just noticed your hook in the prep area, and it doesn't make sense to me. Should it be "is" rather than "was"? Should it be "synagogue congregation" rather than "synagogue"? Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC) Well its the former building which apprently no longer exists so was, but the synagogue as an institution still exists in a different building so one could say is. Wedding dress of Grace Kelly ‎ edit

This reference [4], under section heading "The Cathedral Wedding' needs to be looked into by an expert in ladies dresses so that it could be properly paraphrased without infringing on the copy righted publication. I tried and most terms are strange to me. If this is done the article would be ready for DYK. I have completed my inputs.--Nvvchar. 08:59, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

The tile of the book is "Grace Kelly: icon of style to royal bride" at reference 4 in the article. I can send the copy of the extracts by e-mail, if you feel it helps to enlarge the article. Otherwise, it is adequately covered. But without the img (which will be deleted soon) will it be interesting to appreciate the batty of the dress?--Nvvchar. 11:53, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I hope my input to Wedding dress of Jacqueline Bouvier is adequate. You may like to add and edit further --Nvvchar. 15:06, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

May of Teck's wedding dress edit

I know nothing of women's clothes and fashions, but I no enough to strongly dispute facts in this page [5] The page reads like a babelfish translation, but that doe not explain the errinious facts. Giacomo Returned 12:52, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I quite agree, if you care to examine the history I did not add this information. Thanks for identifying it, I don't have it on my watchlist.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:59, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

How odd! When I start a page it is automatically added to watchlist - anyway could you clarify which Queen was unhappy with the dress and the ambiguious patronage. Also there is some similar ambiguity at the late Queen Mother's dress' page with a certain Dowager Queen Mary - I don't beleive even hypothetically such a person existed until 1936. Giacomo Returned 13:08, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Well I create a lot of articles, those which are likely to attract vandals or POV I tend to put on my watchlist. Haven't got around to expanding the Mary of Teck article yet, I will try to clarify the source for you, cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Me and wedding dresses - certaonly not - the two do not go together. i just wondered which Queen it is you mean that was unhappy and if she was unhappy why did she patronise them - it's all seems very mysterious - doesn't it? Perhaps you create too may pages in too much of a hurry? 13:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Ah it was from a snippet view which you can view here. It doesn't say which Queen, need to do some detective work on this one! Maybe I do try to work too quickly, there is such an enormous amount missing or that needs to work its difficult to spend too long on one particular article... 1893, I would presume "The Queen" is Queen Victoria but it would seem odd for her to comment. The mother of George was Alexandra of Denmark.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

  • That reference says to me that the whole article is flawed. It could be talking about any queen going to the May of Teck's dressmaker and spending £10 on amnything. Where does it say that May of Teck was unhappy with her dress, I agree she looks pretty miserable in the photo, but that's likely to be because having narrowly escaped marriage to Jack the Ripper was then married off to Brian the Bore. There's no way that that dress cost £10 even in the late 19th century - be realistic. Giacomo Returned 13:22, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Its not original research though, that's what this book claims. I agree £10 seems absurdly cheap even in 1893 but I can only go by what the source claims. Based on the book title " the clothes of Princess Charlotte of Wales & Queen Victoria" and that the wedding was 1893 "the queen" would almost certainly appear to refer to Victoria... I'm looking to find another source which indicates she didn't like the dress and verify this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

If you read the source (what little there is of it), it is actually talking about Queen Victoria's spending habbits, not May of Teck's - anyway May of Teck's parents were notorious for not paying bills - the article is seriously flawed - you really should clean it up or have it deleted pending reliable sources. I won't plaster it with tags, but you should think about it. Giacomo Returned 13:27, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

From what I gather, it was the fact that the Queen (Victoria) complained about the dress to the makers that they only paid less than £10 for it. I agree if we can't be certain it should simply be removed. Given that the article is very stubby though, its hardly seriously flawed... Its a minor uncertainty at that. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:29, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

My $0.02 would be that it was Mary herself who disliked the dress (it seems to have been chosen by her mother, not her), but I'm afraid I can't verify that for you. On a related note I have explained on the talk page how the editor who added the "unreferenced" info must have become muddled (also, please note that it was referenced, if only in the form of an external link). Cheers, Jenks24 (talk) 13:28, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

  • This source here[6] looks to be a little more reliable. Giacomo Returned 13:33, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm on the case.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:39, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Hey! Slow down and take your time. You are getting into the realms of copyvio now "The Silver Studio had originally come up with a design named ‘Lily of the Valley’ for Princess May’s scheduled marriage to the Duke of Clarence but he had died less than 6 weeks before the wedding and the silk was never re-used." ect etc etc Giacomo Returned 13:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
little more info here [7] don't care for the source much, but it sounds contemprrary enough in language ) I supppose Braintree, Essex, could just conceivably be the location of east London silk mills - it's not a million kilometres from east London. Giacomo Returned 14:03, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I already found it and am extracting facts.. I don't rush but I can't work at a snail's pace, that's not how may brain works, I know you like to take weeks writing articles..♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:08, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I do! and if you can hang on just 20 minutes, I will email you The Times, Saturday, Jul 08, 1893; pg. 12; Issue 33998; col A, which you will find particularly useful. Giacomo Returned 14:21, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Assistance much appreciated, thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:23, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Sent. 2 reports from the Times the day after the wedding: - the descroption of the dress is in the extreme right hand column of "The Times, Friday, Jul 07, 1893; pg. 5; Issue 33997; col A" You have to read quite a lot to find it buried away. the secon article seems to be more about the trousseau, but had ab it about makers and the wedding dress itself. Not a lot, but a very relaible source. Giacomo Returned 14:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Cheers for that, I will look shortly. Marvellous, the quote from the Times, which is public domain text anyway by now is a valuable eye witness account.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:48, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

  • One final point - the painting shows a long train, however, the photos show a standard shortish "court train" - which is probably why the Times says there is no train to hamper her because the train is nothing out of the ordinary for formal court wear. Giacomo Returned 16:15, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

I guess.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:18, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you so much for everything.

No problem if you missed my question. I understand that you are quite busy. Thanks for the help with my first DYK prep, btw. (Cue evil laughter) Enjoy your new flying lava orb guard bot, Doctor. (leaves gift) Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:23, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Villages in Afghanistan edit

See my replies to you on my talk page: I've cleaned things up further since then, and would appreciate your comments. Looking at the results, I can see that there are a number of district articles that need creating (or spelling mistakes that need fixing?) -- could you possibly look into these? -- The Anome (talk) 10:41, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Camden map edit

I've uploaded a test map for Camden, I'd appreciate your thoughts on ways (over on the Commons page) to improve the presentation to make it more usable.--Nilfanion (talk) 12:00, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

At the very least, you deserve a copy of this notification edit

Copied from [8]; it would not have happened without your help. The BBC (rolling news, and news reports) is running about a 5 min long part about the dress, today, so I am indeed optimistic that it might attract attention and new editors - particularly, perhaps, the type that might not normally fit our typical demographic.
It would not have happened without your input; thank you, sincerely.  Chzz  ►  12:33, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh thanks. nice one! Glad it made it, eventually!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:34, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

For what its worth - and possibly suprising - I dislike the Royal family; I'm always slightly embarrassed that I'm from a non-democratic country. And, I have absolutely no interest in dresses whatsoever. Heh. Funny old world. (But I do have an interest in improving Wikipedia - and this is a good way of doing that, I think). I really do appreciate the considerable efforts you made, helping make this work. The evils of your organization are greatly exaggerated :-)  Chzz  ►  12:38, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Me too, actually, well I wouldn't say "dislike", but I certainly think they no longer have any significance in the 21st century other than an occasional source of amusement and some of the good charity work they do... But of course they are significant to many people, as was the wedding and dress, so that is the point... I find it difficult to dislike Prince Philip for his humour and risque comments, Prince Charles for his ears and Prince Harry for his fun loving personality... But I actually found it quite interesting I must admit and a topic which we ought to have some coverage of even if less than male geek topics.. Now, onto more aevil things...♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:42, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Osama bin Laden edit

DR. B, You seem to have the ESP. I was thinking yesterday night that you might start this subject. There it is on the most topical and extraordinary event. I have added some text. I hope it jells. More info on the building itself may emerge in the next few days.--Nvvchar. 13:22, 3 May 2011 (UTC) Yes, very interesting.--Nvvchar. 14:13, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

2 images edit

OK, a bit more detail... for File:Diana wedding dress1.jpg, clearly the website cited as the source [9] is not the actual copyright holder of this image :( Without the actual (c) holder of this pic (and any others from that site - that site this page specifically takes images from here and here and other (c) sites with no attribution) it's impossible to give a "valid" FuR, because without it, there is no backwards-attribution possible. Should have been a bit clearer with that notification, sorry.

And, I hate to mention this, but the image File:Princess Diana wedding dress.png also can be questioned as "no source" because the root directory for the source [10] is dead and a tineye reverse search [11] shows that it's most likely from the official royal site which is under crown copyright and the instructions at their reuse page have to be followed for any reuse of their images :( - you're call on what to do with them - let me know.
