Tony Parker Jr. and French citizenship
editHow is it that Tony Parker Jr. has French citizenship where his father is American, his mother is Dutch and he was born in Belgium?
- Why not. Perhaps you can read the WP article on citizenship, that might help. Chensiyuan 16:30, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Chensiyuan doesn't know ... Parker was born in Belgium but moved to france when he was 3 weeks old and his father played for a french league team. He took french citizenship when he was 15. I could add this to the entry but chensiyuan would certainly remove it
- Yup, whoever you are, I only know you make poor edits that pay no attention to grammar and spelling. And claims which do not provide sources. Goodbye! Chensiyuan 09:14, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
There is an accusation against Chensiyuan, and accusations are.....he probaply is as such. --83.108.30.25 (talk) 23:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Capitalization
editI also agree the sections don't need to be capitalized, according to Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style on Headings section.
"Capitalize the first letter only of the first word and of any proper nouns in a heading, and leave all of the other letters in lowercase". Aree 10:41, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Racist?
editIs racist the right adjective to describe Longoria's supposed remarks? I would generally prefer to find another word to describe racially derogatory remarks made by somebody about their own group, although I'm not sure what would be appropriate. john k 19:29, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah calling someone a Mexican bike cop when you yourself are Mexican is borderline. Also it was such a minor event. Quadzilla99 06:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
France...no, U.S...no France...no, U.S.
editThis article says Dominique Wilkins was born in France, but is a U.S. citizen by birth. Isn't this contradictory? To be a U.S. citizen by birth you have to be born in the U.S.
- If one is the children of U.S. nationals, one can be a U.S. citizen by birth in certain contexts, even if one is not born in the U.S. john k 21:59, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Since his father is American, wouldn't he be French-American?
No, you do NOT have to be born within the borders of the United States to be a U.S. citizen. You can be born abroad, but if at least one of your parents is a U.S. citizen, then you are also a citizen from birth, as long as your citizen parent lived in the U.S. for a certain number of years. (I believe the requirement is 5 years.) Moreover, some countries allow for dual citizenship, depending on parentage. It is possible to be a dual French-American citizen. By the way, "Pamela Firestone" is not a Dutch name. Could Parker's mother be half-American (or half-British) and half-Dutch? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lolliapaulina51 (talk • contribs) 02:29, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Dunking?
editIs it really "popular belief" that he can't dunk? Is there a source for that? Crumbsucker 05:22, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Early Years
editIs it true that he's related to the Parkers of Parker Brothers fame? I would like to see some kind of citation with regards to this.
- I also have a hard time believing he's related to famed injury attorney Larry H. Parker, presumably on his father's side. I'd like to see that attested to as well.
- I'm going to remove the information since it's likely untrue. If someone wants to find a citation for it and re-add it, then by all means. --WHSTalk 07:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Chensiyuan removed the 2 lines about tony parker number 9 and tony's godfather. Why? This can be easily checked (see tp9.net) or the french WP entry for tony parker!
French in the NBA
editThe article states that TP is the second french national to play in the NBA. That is not true. The second Frenchman to play in the NBA was Jerome Moïso. But I can understand why he's been forgotten.
Why is Trivia section called Other Information?
editIs that in an attempt to make it more encyclopedic sounding? Renaming isn't going to make it more encyclopedic. Harvey100 14:45, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

GA passed
editI reviewed and passed Tony Park for Good article status. It's broad in it's coverage, stable, and contains images (where possible). For FA status, the prose could be improved and the lead could be expanded. MahangaTalk 20:05, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Nicknames
editI did explain my revert in the edit summary. I said one article doesn't cut it. Downwards has explained offering more or less the same reasons. Just because one article contains "French Bliss" does not mean that is his nickname. You need more than that, because obviously we are looking for established nicknames, not occasionally coined ones. Further, it's also not about finding a dozen hits off google which contain "French Bliss", it's about using reliable and reputable sources. You would find similar discussions on nicknames on other players' talkpages. Chensiyuan 01:56, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- You are also advised not to keep hitting the "edit" button when you're unsure about the edit -- if possible use the preview button. The reasons for that should be obvious to anyone. Chensiyuan 01:57, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay, But in the NBA.com website, http://www.nba.com/finals2007/ you will see when click on Parker's photo in the image gallery that French Bliss: Parker is MVP You call that not a reliable source. So, it is an established nickname okay. Both NBA and that source(which is reliable and is a famous website okay) has called Parker Fench Bliss I fell that it is proven to establish the nickname. Brave warrior 13:29, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- The connection between the title of an article and that being the subject's nickname is rather tenuous. And please do not contradict yourself -- the original source you cited was not nba.com. Finally, if you really think about it, was "French Bliss" conjured to convey the idea of a nickname? Chensiyuan 14:56, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Marriage
edit@203.214.72.239, I don't know why you have a hard time accepting it, but yes, they really did get married. Your removing that information from the article won't change that fact and just appears to be vandalism.
Date of Marriage
editI changed the date in which the article claimed he was married. The page said that he was married on July 7th, but he was married today and it's the 6th. They're expected to have a wedding party tomorrow, but they're already legally married.
Lead
editneeds to be expanded to include details on his earlier life. will work on it. Chensiyuan 00:34, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Rising star award
editThe French League Rising Star Award in 2001 is not a team honor. The mention of it should be displaced to the "Individual honors" section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brice LS (talk • contribs) 03:33, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. I will check back in no less than seven days. If progress is being made, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN again. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far. (If you are really busy, let me know and I'll give more time. I need to know however so I can see that someone is interested in addressing these concerns. Regards --Jackyd101 (talk) 22:46, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review. I've left the reply on your talk -- in a nutsehll, I don't think the lack of mention of the purported affair per se warrants a fail. Secondly, I look forward to credible sources that mention the affair. Chensiyuan (talk) 01:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Talk page discussion
edit- The following is a talk page exchange between Chensiyuan and jackyd101 discussing this issue
Hi. We've met before, re: GAR for Cesc Fabregas. I notice you failed the Tony Parker article in one of the GA taskforce sweeps. As far as I can tell, the sole basis of the failure is the zero-mention of his purported affair. I cannot agree to this as a basis for failure on at least two counts.
First, nobody has ever come forward with a credible source. Sure, WP may say it's not concerned with "truth" and as long as a verifiable and credible source says he might have had the affair, we're good. But nobody has even come forward with a credible source -- you can see that from the article's edit history. To my mind, the fact that reputable news agencies and other legitimate sources of news have not made a real issue of it tells me that the evidence is thin (see also google results here andhere). In other words, I don't think WP should facilitate rumour mongering. If not, every single allegation against a celebrity that is picked up by a couple of mags has to be reported by WP.
Second, how can an article fail just because it does not mention what is, comparatively, a minor aspect of the biography? Even if someone can find a legitimate source that talks about his alleged affair, it was really a tiny ripple in the pond, a hoo-ha that came and left in a matter of weeks (cf. maybe someone like Beckham's). I will imagine that if the affair is true his wife would have come out and responded. But that is not WP's business anyway. I'm just talking about weight here.
Overall, I appreciate the fact that you reviewed the article again as part of an project seeking to keep GA standards. But the overall fail, absent of legitimate reasons, showed poor judgment. Regards, Chensiyuan (talk) 01:16, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- jackyd101's response
Hi, thanks for your note on my talk page. Firstly, I'd like to point out that the article has not failed. I have reviewed it and placed it on hold pending improvement or discussion. This hold is scheduled to last seven days, but could last longer if required. it would only be failed if the issue I raised is not satisfactorily dealt with by then. Secondly, if I had failed it, you could take it to WP:GAR to appeal my desicion and gain wider consensus, so my word is far from final.
To address your specific points, this story (in Britain at least) was covered by a wide range of tabloids and gossip magazines. These publications are, you are correct, hardly the most reliable but they are widely read. People will come to wikipedia seeking information based on what they read in these publications precisely because Wikipedia can provide a neutral account of the event. Thus I am not for a second advocating that Wikipedia accuse Tony Parker of having an affair, but instead the biography include something like
In December 2007, stories emerged in tabloid newspapers that Tony Parker had been having an extra-martial affair with Alexandra Paressant, a French model. Both Parker and Longoria vehemently denied these allegations through their spokespeople, saying "All high profile couples fall victim to these sorts of things in the course of their relationships. It appears that this is not the first time this woman has used an athlete to gain public notoriety."[1] Parker began a $20 million dollar lawsuit against the website that first spread the news, which later issued a complete retraction and an apology, saying "X17online.com and X7 [sic], Inc. regret having been misled by Ms. Paressant and her representatives and apologize to Mr. Parker for any damage or inconvenience this may have caused him or his wife."[2]
This type of brief coverage clearly illustrates the facts of the case (including the all important fact that the allegations were invented) in a neutral way so that when people curious about the story come to Wikipedia they will be able to find out what actually happened. I strongly believe that coverage of this event is important in the context of the article - sports stars are as much celebrities as television actors and thus their personal lives are very much in the media spotlight. This means that these stories will attact people to Wikipedia eager to discover more about this incident and in presenting a sourced, neutral version of what actually happened, wikipedia can fulfill this audience in a simple and factual way. Hopefully this has answered your questions and please note that I haven't failed the article, I've just posted notice that I do not think it is comprehensive. Given that someone is interested in discussing this issue, I am unlikely to fail it at all (I never have yet). I will post your query to me and this reply on the review if you have no objections.--Jackyd101 (talk) 10:38, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Conclusion
editThe above suggested section is now in the article and thus I am happy to pass this immediately.--Jackyd101 (talk) 12:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Questionable phrase in "Family Life" section
editRegarding the alleged affair, what does "supposed model Alexandra Paressant" mean? Is she a model, is she not a model, or is it unknown? I can't see how the current wording is appropriate for any of the three options. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 13:11, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Deletions and restorations
editI restored part of the details to the lede, the possible career-ending injury to Parker in the second round of the 2017 playoffs. It followed the gist of his prior career record existing in the lede. From the lede, I removed the marriage details to Longoria, tabloidism that was exhaustively covered later in the article. Parker had his least productive season since his rookie year in 2017, and improved his game in the first round and the first two games of the second round. He had scored 18 points with almost nine minutes left when he suffered his severe injury, two weeks before his 35th birthday. His continuing career was already questionable, but his playoff performance, if maintained, could have improved those prospects. Instead, his injury likely assured its end. I restored my original cite that had been deleted, as that which replaced it had format problems and inaccuracies. Activist (talk) 08:17, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
