This is an Article about the Airport of Pristina and not about the City of Prishtina. The international name is Pristina International Airport, see the official Homepage of Airport. More on article name

To be honest, I do not see any good reason for not renaming the article in this case. As stated, this is the article on the airport and not on the city, and they can well be different (as is the case for University of Prishtina already). The official website uses "Pristina" or "Prishtina", but never "Priština". IATA does the same, and ICAO only ever speaks of "Pristina" (to check, search their respective websites for various spellings, and look through the results - you won't see a single "š" either way). And the Google test also makes "Pristina" a winner:

• "prishtina international airport" -priština -pristina - 266 hits
• "priština international airport" -pristina -prishtina - 138 hits

I share Húsönd's rational for opposing the move (despite the University of Prishtina precedent, where I just don't dare to tread :-)

As discussed in Talk:Priština, I find that "Pristina" is just a simplified version of "Priština", widely used because of mainly two factors: lack of "š" in English (and most keyboards) and political neutrality. In fact, the very same people who write "Pristina" pronounce the word with the "š/sh" sound. In my personal opinion, and in Húsönd's words, [diacritics are] a more perfectionist and educative way to display [the name].

As for the official website, check the "Welcome to Kosova" section, not to mention the "History" section :-)

1965: Prishtina Airport was officially opened and initially was opened for domestic flights only.

2000: Airport Prishtina initially has begun its operations and other airport matters with 45 employed workers in total.

I can't stress enough that my opinion has nothing to do with taking sides in the current Kosovo conflict (which I would solve by moving the entire population of the Western Balkans to Antarctica, and giving the region to the penguins - who probably will change Priština's official name to something along the lines of Tekeli-li).

Priština International Airport?

The Airport is known as Prishtina International Airport and not Priština International Airport! This is the name of the aiport and should be changed to the proper name! --Albanau 15:41, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Even the offical website of the airport use the name Prishtina International Airport, no where on the webpage can I found the Serbian translation of aiports name. --Albanau 19:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I made appropriate annotations in text, including in the definition, and added parenthetically the Prishtina spelling wherever the city was mentioned, except in the history, under 1965, when Serbian spelling was clearly the appropriate. I also altered the description of the external link to truthfully describe it. But short of moving the article about the city to Prishtina, this article may find opposition on grounds that the airport should be under the same spelling. However, my own view, is that the page should be moved to Prishtina International Airport, much like the city itself, reflecting self-appellation in English. --Mareklug ^talk 02:12, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Belle Air flights to Liege

Belle Air has switched the flights to Liege instead of Liege-Prishtina-Tirana to Liege-Tirana-Prishtina. This implies that there is no direct flight to Liege from Prishtina and passengers have to change at Tirana, which is the same as changing at Vienna for a flight to, say, New York. So, I think the connection to Liege should be removed as a result. Check the following timetable from Belle Air's website [1]:

It rests confusing anyway that Belle Air still lists Pristina as one of only two direct airlinks from Pristina, next to a listing as a destination from Pristina via Tirana: see this. Greetings, Belgian man (talk) 15:33, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Belle Air probably still tries to advertise by implication the link to Liege (Belgium) as a direct flight, however the flight's route is Liege-Tirana-Prishtina. PRN is my local airport so I desperately want it to have a direct flight to the capital of Europe, i.e. Brussels, (or at lease Liege in Belgium), however this connection now goes through TIA. When I look at the increase in number of flights from Pristina (with Kosovo developing rapidly), I suppose it won't take too much time until there is a direct airlink (let's say I hope so). When I flew from Brussels to Ljubljana with Adria Airways (on my way to Tirana), I met a man from Bruges who was under his way to Pristina via Ljubljana. I guess Brussels-Ljubljana-Pristina (Adria Airways) is one of the most popular routes between Belgium and Kosovo; connections in Ljubljana are good. Tafa Air should be removed

I think we should remove Tafa Air from this page as they do not operate any flights at all. They operated a few flights in December 2009 with FlyLAL, however since then they are completely inactive. If and when they start new flights they can be added, however in the meantime it is simply not true that Tafa Air flies to Prishtina International Airport. Any thoughts? Tafa Air operated a number of flights over the Christmas/New Year period when they were abruptly ceased. They got a lot of bad press because many people were stranded at PRN. Since then they have moved the dates (and destinations) of their recommenced flights to end of January, beginning of February, mid-February, end of February and now mid-March. Just a note to update you that I have removed Tafa Air from this article. That pseudo-airline has no credibility, and has been claiming that it will start flying since the beginning of January. Their latest 'start date' is April 30th. I suggest this airline only be added to the page when it resumes its services, if it ever does. If you disagree then please write back. Article name

Is the "Adem Jashari" really necessary to identify this airport? In sources I have seen it is just referred to as "Pristina International Airport". VQuakr (talk) 08:39, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

That is its official name, according to the airport's own website, although even that site frequently just refers to it as "Pristina International Airport" or even just "Pristina Airport". Compare similarly branded George Best Belfast City Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, commonly referred to as "Belfast City Airport" and "Liverpool Airport" but with their full names used in Wikipedia article titles. See the Article Name thread above. I don't massively disagree with you per WP:COMMONNAME, but we should try to maintain some consistency with airport articles. Consistency with some other articles which don't follow COMMONNAME? I would suggest that some other moves are needed! Some seem to have been moved to such names despite a previous RM favouring the common name, like this mess.

• The "š" is correct in local usage, and in not using there is indecision as to whether to use "s" or "sh". A compromise, to use the correct letter, is an unusually attractive compomise.

  In early computing, writing endured an ASCII bias that is now diminishing. Diacritic are welcome, although, per WP:DIACRITICS, neither encouraged nor discouraged.

  Ordinary people using keyboards naturally skip diacritics because they are not easily typed. This probably applies to the people owning and running the airport. However, Wikipedia has no difficulty in producing the diacritic, and by using it Wikipedia makes is much easier to for others to choose to use it, without knowing the character code, by simply copying the text.

  Is "Priština International Airport" at all incorrect, or less correct than "Pristina International Airport" or "Prishtina International Airport"?

  Google Maps shows me an image of the airport with an embedded label "Priština International Airport".

Re-relisting. Please note the decision at Talk:Athens International Airport#Requested move 2. We possibly need to clarify via a guideline, and/or investigate who is behind these undiscussed airport moves.

Please also note that, despite the way the discussion went at #Requested move above, the official name is not automatically chosen as the best name for any Wikipedia article. Years ago it was establiished as NPOV to use Pristina as a consensus between the Albanian name Prishtina and Serbian name Priština. WP:COMMONNAME backed it up, as by then most English language sources actually used Pristina instead of Prishtina/Priština. I will try to find that discussion and bring it here. • Oppose. The sources listed by the OP are not reliable secondary sources by which we could see that the longer variant of the name is prominently used in a natural, non-official, context. What has traditionally identified this airport is the name of the city. None of the airport names cited by Roman Spinner contain an identifier apart from an individual's name, and this is why it has to be included. For example, had the "Kenneth Kaunda International Airport" been called the "Luanda International Airport Kenneth Kaunda", we would, for reasons of naturalness, conciseness (and probably to some extent commonness), very likely have had the article titled "Luanda International Airport". There's probably a case to be made that at least one of those articles could be titled better. For example, Blic website has a category for the Niš airport related news named Aerodrom Niš (Airport Niš) — Alalch Emis (talk) 16:32, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

2. Aeroporti Ndërkombëtar "Adem Jashari" (in English: Adem Jashari International Airport) — 16 articles

That's really a fair rebuttal, but on a second look at WP:OFFICIALNAME I'm not sure that either my previous comment citing Blic, or your example, have much (any) bearing on this discussion, because when considering sources, we should really start with and end with what the English-language sources say. An English-language source which is often cited on Wikipedia and can be seen as a reliable source, simpleflying.com consistently refers to the Pristina airport as just that: Pristina airport. On the other hand, when mentioning the Niš airport, I mostly encounter instances of that airport's official name. Why is this so? I don't know and it doesn't matter.
