Good article criteria

Well written

• To comply with MOS:SURNAME, subsequent mentions of his given name beyond the first sentence should be replaced with his surname.

• This claim had been refuted by the Islamic State in October 2016... Can this be changed to This claim was refuted by the Islamic State in October 2016...

• I feel the first sentence of the lead doesn't adequately introduce Mohammad Saifullah Ozaki to readers. I would mention he was a member of IS, which is the most important piece of info about him.

Verifiable with no original research

Luckily since there are not that many references, I managed to spot check all of them. I found no issues there, although I made a few minor changes to citation formatting myself. Steelkamp (talk) 06:59, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Broad in its coverage

I found nothing that could be used to expand this article in my spot check of the references. However, when looking at the Japanese Wikipedia article on Ozaki, I found this source, which says his three remaining children travelled back to Japan after he was arrested in 2019. Thank you for your kind and helpful review. I've taken care of everything, although I noticed a slight hiccup in the article's first sentence: "born 1982" in is parentheses, while "as Sajit Chandra Debnath" is not, something more noticeable when previewing the article as parenthesized segments are hidden. There is also no comma before the word "also" in the same sentence. However you feel is best to address this is fine with me. Anonymous 18:34, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

• Regarding this nomination. It is a BLP so I am cautious about promoting a hook that seems to imply guilt before conviction. Also the bit in the hook about him being an associate professor... it appears in the lead uncited. In the body it just says "He began teaching at Kyoto's Ritsumeikan" - since it is a hook fact it should be stated in the body directly followed by a citation. The hook is 197 characters so it is 3 under the limit, but also gives too much info. (I also made this reply at DYK). I think we need a new hook that because this is a BLP. • @Bruxton:, five years later and Ozaki's whereabouts remain unclear, as well as the issue as to whether or not he was ever formally tried or convicted by any government. This source is rather intriguing and it seems quite plausible that he may have been among the militants sentenced to death (he certainly fits their description, but while the article mentions his name, it does not confirm that he was one of them). Without any formal conviction on record, I'm unsure what the hook would even be about, as he was only notable for his alleged IS membership. Perhaps something like "... that a Bangladeshi and Japanese academic, Mohammad Saifullah Ozaki, was captured in Syria and detained in Iraq?"? This is at least somewhat interesting without making any kind of accusation. Anonymous 01:23, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
