Pablo Daniel osvaldo was not sent out because he pretended to machine-gun his fans after the winning goal against Juventus but for a second yellow card for removing his shirt.

page name, Pablo Osvaldo edit

Pablo Osvaldo should be the name of the page. He has two names like all the argentinians in Wikipedia, why Pablo Daniel Osvaldo should be the title?--82.61.159.146 (talk) 08:20, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree, but my move of the article to this name was reverted. Bearing in mind that this is the English language Wikipedia, the article name should be what he is commonly known by in the English-speaking media. At present, the press are a bit mixed between his full name and the shortened version. I suggest that any further moves of the article should be postponed until the British press decide on what they will call him. The Italian Wikipedia artice is at Pablo Osvaldo, as are the French, Dutch and Polish (amongst others), whereas the Spanish, German, Swedish and others use the full name. Incidentally, as referenced in the article, Southampton FC refer to him as either Daniel or Dani. His Twitter account is also under the name "Dani", so maybe that name will become his accepted name in the English media. Time will tell. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:04, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Based on this reasoning, I think it's fair for the page to be moved to Dani Osvaldo now, based on a number of references (almost all UK sources called him Dani after today's match): Metro, Sky Sports (Daniel), Yahoo!, The Sun, Daily Echo, and BBC. Some still calling him Pablo, but Dani certainly seems to be the norm now. Andre666 (talk) 19:51, 21 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
His name is Pablo Osvaldo. This is an encyclopedia. Just because he's nicknamed Dani doesn't mean that should be the title of the article. How many times does the English media call Messi "Leo", but would we call his article "Leo Messi"? Of course not. Italia2006 (talk) 12:42, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Pablo Daniel OsvaldoDani Osvaldo – Now that he is becoming established in English football, most of the English press refer to him as Dani Osvaldo. For example, after his goal on 28 September, the BBC, The Independent, Scottish Daily Express, The Standard, The Telegraph and The Mirror refer to him as Dani, whereas The Guardian seem confused as to whether to call him Pablo or Daniel. The Southampton official match programme also refers to him as Dani. As explained in the previous thread, his Twitter account is also under the name "Dani". • Support for reasons listed based on sources. Andre666 (talk) 17:41, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • I hadn't heard this form before; I've always heard him referred to as Pablo Osvaldo. That form is far more common in a simple Google search, though Dani predominates in a News search, suggesting a changing trend. Either the proposed form or Pablo Osvaldo would be an improvement. --BDD (talk) 21:43, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dani OsvaldoPablo Daniel Osvaldo – "Dani" is just the diminutive form of "Daniel", not an actual name. The press uses the forms "Pablo Osvaldo", "Daniel Osvaldo" and "Dani Osvaldo", so the full name seems like a logical option.
