Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. Utilities sections?

I second the notion that this is unencyclopedic, and smacks of WP:NOTDIR. If someone is moving to a given town, apartment complexes and real estate agents typically give this information out. Tckma (talk) 16:57, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

I agree that the utilities listings should be removed. One reason Wikipedia is not a directory is that that sort of information can become inaccurate very quickly. I've already seen several changes in the New Hampshire town articles, but only for certain towns, leading to what would be very uneven coverage statewide. --Ken Gallager (talk) 12:14, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Error in Footnote?

In the article, it says Southern NH Univ is ranked 3rd tier by US News and World Report with a reference to footnote [8} but if you click on that footnote link, the report by US News & World Report says right there on the front page (to the right) that it is a Tier 1 school.

New Hampshire articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the New Hampshire articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Adding "Popular pages" to U.S.-related projects

A very interesting tool of the Wikimedia Toolserver is called WikiProject Popular pages lists. These lists are similar to project-related article lists like U. S. article lists used for generating assessment statistics. The Popular pages lists include the rank, total views, average daily views, quality and importance ratings for the listed articles. Here is the full list of projects using popular pages lists. An FAQ also is available at User:Mr.Z-man/Popular pages FAQ.

I recently added links to lists of popular pages as shown below to the U.S. Portal - WikiProjects box and the nominations sections for each of the selected articles boxes.

Because this project was not included, I am bringing up the popular pages tool here. This tool makes it very easy to track three of four balancing dimensions when selecting articles for showcasing at a portal - quality, importance and popularity. When tracking the fourth dimension, topic, the related article lists tool (such as for U.S. article lists tool) also might be useful by filtering on categories of interest.

If you do decide to use this tool, feel free to update Portal:United States/Projects/Popular pages as well.

Pictures of towns in NH

I was going through many of the articles on towns and places in NH, and I find many "postcard" drawings representing those places as they were in the early 1900s. To give a few examples, look at these articles: Richmond, New Hampshire, Marlborough, New Hampshire, and Hinsdale, New Hampshire. Not all pictures are of these "postcards" but it makes me wonder if it would be more useful to have recent photographs of these locations, in addition to this historical perspective. Proposal for United States A-Class review process

Executive Council

Just to let you all know, I created List of members of the Executive Council of New Hampshire yesterday. However, the source that I was working from, a page on the executive council's own website, only listed members from 1901 forward — so I thought I'd bring it to WPNH's attention since you all are likely to have a much better sense of where additional sources might be found for people who served prior to 1901.

In addition, while I wikilinked people on the list whom I was able to locate in Category:Members of the New Hampshire Executive Council, I don't know if there are other people lurking on the list who do have articles but haven't been properly categorized yet. Just as one example, I am not able to properly determine whether the "Robert N. Chamberlin" who served on the executive council from 1901 to 1903 is or is not the same person as the Robert N. Chamberlain who served in the NH House and on the Superior Court — while I realize that it is likely the same person, his article doesn't mention the executive council at all, so given my relatively limited knowledge of NH politics I'm not willing to simply assume anything. If it is indeed the same person, then his article should be expanded to include the information and the category, and his name wikilinked on the list. Bearcat (talk) 16:59, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template

Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Question

When Chris Pappas was first elected to the New Hampshire Executive Council in 2012, several media outlets credited him as the first openly LGBT person elected to that body. However, on at least two occasions since his Wikipedia article was created, editors (one signed-in, one anonymous IP) have removed that assertion from his article, both times claiming in their edit summary that he was preceded by Raymond S. Burton.

However, Burton's article mentions and sources exactly nothing about him having been gay, and a Google search offers up exactly zero sources which support the assertion either.

Frankly, I suspect that in reality Burton wasn't gay and the editor(s) is/are confusing him with Raymond Buckley, but I wanted to ask if somebody more knowledgeable about New Hampshire politics could weigh in one way or the other. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 00:12, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, Ray Burton being gay was one of those things that people just kinda knew, but never really bothered to put in writing anywhere... I haven't been able to find any sources to verify it, either, although I had heard it elsewhere before (by word of mouth, which doesn't count)... And while I can see people sometimes mixing up Ray Burton with Raymond Buckley, I don't think that's what's happening here... Cooljeanius (talk) (contribs) 00:27, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Well, even if it is true, it's unverifiable if we can't source it and thus the distinction still goes to Pappas on the "openly" part of the equation. My suspicion about Burton being mixed up with Buckley had more to do with the similarity of their names than anything else — I don't have the necessary background knowledge to know if they were prone to being confused with each other on any other grounds besides that. Suggestion

Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject New Hampshire to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Hampshire/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the Tool Labs tool. US 50,000 Challenge invite

It looks like this project is moribund but, just in case, does anyone know of a source for past members of the NH state legislature? WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Dan Feltes page suggestions

Hi Wikiproject New Hampshire!

My name is Emma and I am on the Dan Feltes campaign. In accordance with the COI guidelines, I am asking that an active editor in this Wikiproject page consider making a few additions to the Dan Feltes page. We've noticed several other pages for both senate majority leaders and prominent legal practitioners in other states have "Awards and accolades" sections on their articles. In an effort to make Dan's page more complete, I've taken the liberty of drafting this section for his page complete with citations. Is someone able to review these proposed edits and institute some or all of them on the article page?

Dan has received several Legislator of the Year awards for bipartisan leadership on many critical issues, including from Ski NH for his work promoting tourism and the ski industry and from New Hampshire Council on Development Disabilities for his work helping persons with disabilities. Additionally, he has received recognition from the New Hampshire Home Builders Association for his advocacy on behalf of the home building and remodelling industry. Housing Action NH recognized Feltes as a 2016 Home Matters in New Hampshire, specifically for his work on an important appropriation to New Hampshire's Affordable Housing Fund. Feltes also received New Hampshire Public Health Association's Friend of Public Health Award in 2018 for being "instrumental in practicing and/or promoting public health in the state" .
