Gunpowder Falls State Park Misinformation

Overkill on coordinates?

Is it really necessary to include the coordinates in three places within the same article for the location of a locale in Maryland? I found this to be the case in the Bryans Road, Maryland article, where the coordinates appear in the infobox and twice in the body of the article itself. I believe that this practice spans a number of articles for cities, towns, CDPs and communities located in Maryland.

The coordinates should be included in one place only in an article. Anything else is overkill, especially if the article is rather short on content. →Lwalt ^♦ talk 03:53, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Seeking Input for Notre Dame Preparatory School (Towson, MD) Article

The Notre Dame Preparatory School (Towson, Maryland) article has been flagged for reading like an advertisement, lacking citations and was considered for deletion. To improve the article I have drafted up proposed revisions to the Academics and Extracurricular Activities sections. Your userspace sandbox is definitely better than what's currently in the article. I know we refer to the school as "Notre Dame Prep" regionally, but this is kind of a nickname. I'd suggest either using the full name, or just referring to "the school" in the article. In the original article, the "School Song" section should be removed since it's unencyclopedic. I also think the infobox contains too much information. Look at Gonzaga College High School for a good example. The logo and one picture help provide visual context, and the infobox contains necessary information, but avoids added a lot of facts and figures that might change rapidly (e.g. class size, Grade 11 enrollment, student-teacher ratio, etc). I'm going to avoid making any of these changes now, since you are working on this article, but feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need any more help or criticism. A consideration for cross project consolidation of talk page templates

I would oppose this change for the reasons many people have expressed. In general, there needs to be a much wider discussion of the relative roles of this project and the proposed scope of the relaunched WikiProject United States. Racepacket (talk) 14:42, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

First lets clarify that many is you and about 4 others with more than 180 recently joining the project (presumably in support of it). As for the role of Maryland, unless the project desire something different I believe that the role is and should be any and all articles pertaining to the State of Maryland. Of course as with many things this may overlap into other projects such as the Washington Metro but in general I would say its pretty clear. I welcome discussions about this projects role however but the scope of WikiProject US (articles relating to US, states and territories and related articles not captured by the US topic related projects) is already clear eventhough you don't like it. US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. I'm not sure there is much there to give a misimpression of something other than "We are working on the United States Portal and Collaboration. Neither of which is intended to be specific to WPUS...please help out." Also implied in this is that with more US topic related projects involved in the maintenance of these 2 things they will take on a more wholeistic view of US rather than give the impression to you and to others that its just from a national standpoint. Unless you are implying that the smaller topics of the United States are less important than the large national topics and would not be of interest to anyone who views Portal:United States or participates in the collaboration. Intercounty Connector

As you know the ICC has been controversial for about 30 years and finally opened at the end of February. The ICC played a prominent role in a number of campaigns for Governor as well as for County Council. As a result the Wikipedia article grew and was split into three articles, Maryland Route 200, History of Maryland Route 200, and Opposition to Maryland Route 200. I nominated the history article for GA, and in turn someone from the US Roads WikiProject nominated the opposition article for deletion. I believe that mature editors with an interest in Maryland politics and history should get involved with the coverage of the ICC, its history and surrounding controvery. Concerning the article on the community of Oxon Hill, Maryland: I don't understand why there are 2 different versions of this article ? If I type "Oxon Hill" in Wikipedia's search box, it brings up a very long version. But when I type "Oxon Hill-Glassmanor" or conversely if I go to the main "Prince Georges County" article and click at the bottom on the link to names of communities in P.G.C., then a much shorter version of the "Oxon Hill" article appears. When I try to add the additional text into the shorter version and click "save", the system will not "save it". This is frustrating. Can someone fix this glitch ? I spotted new User:UMDSpecColl making spam-like edits to Maryland related articles so I welcomed the user and linked the spam page. The user seems to be interested in participating in a larger way so I thought I'd bring this discussion to members' attention. So this involves changing {{WikiProject Maryland}} to {{WikiProject United States}}? The latter strikes me as a bit cluttered (since it has both the state and US text and images), but I'm not sure that's a big deal one way or the other. What else? Good Questions. First let me say that the project page with members stay basically as they are with the members able to dictate how things happen, scope of the project, etc. Its not going to be absorbed or dissolved in any way and the scope won't change unless the members want it too. The only change would be that the WikiProject banner would be replaced with the WPUS banner with WikiProject Arizona (and any other supported projects) embedded within it. You can take a look at Category talk:Visitor attractions in South Carolina to see an example. All the projects use a standard group of parameters (Needs infobox, image, attention, etc) it also reduces the number of banners cluttering up the talk page of the articles. All the projects use the same article classes (If the project doesn't want to though thats ok too but the rest do and I would like to try and keep it as standard as possible).

How it will be supported can depend on what the members of the project want but typically WPUS is a bigger project with a lot more members, it has a newsletter, a monthly collaboration, multiple bots that run actively through the articles for various things (as can be seen on the members page) with more being setup as we go along. This means that it will be seen by a lot of people in a lot of ways. Up till now we have mostly been concentrating on building up the project but soon we are going to be starting to do some drives to build up articles, create new ones, etc. I hope this helps. --Kumioko (talk) 01:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

I've been asked to give my input so here it is. I've been semi-active on Wikipedia for the past few years so I haven't been working on this project lately like I have in the past. What about the Baltimore task force? Can the Baltimore task force be added to the WPUS banner along with the Maryland WikiProject? Baltimore task force is part of WikiProject Maryland and has never been part of WikiProject United States. Should it be added to the WPUS banner? I think it should stay as is. The name "WikiProject Maryland" makes us unique among all the other US WikiProjects. I don't know how inactive the "membership" is, but I think that merging the name (even if only the name) would be counter-productive to enticing the current membership to do more, as well as "recruiting" new members. I kinda like having a userbox identifying myself as part of a specific state WikiProject. If nothing else changes but the name, what is the purpose of the change? Although its fine with me if Maryland wants to stay on their own given your comments I feel like I need to clarify a couple things. The project isn't losing its anme or being disolved. The only thing that would happen would be for the WikiProject Maryland template to be replaced with the WPUS template/Maryland as can be seen here with District of Columbia. This will not only reduce the number of banners on the articles talk page but allow the article to be tracked by both projects and to allow all the supported projects to utilize the full list of parameters in the WikiProject United States template. Additionally there are several bots that run off the United States template and this allows the supported projects articles to be run through as well. The WikiProject itself is not going away and will retain its name. The Userbox is also going to remain as will any project related stub templates and categories (I will in fact add several categories). Another benfit of support is this. Currently there are 200+ projects in various states of activity relating to United States. Only about 25% are very active. Some are completely defunt like WikiProject US States, WikiProject politicians and several of the lower level city and locality projects. There are a lot of editors who edit articles about these topics but almost no activity in many cases from the projects themselves. Many of these editors are members of multiple related projects. This is a movement to align any US related projects (at least those who wish too) into a core group of projects that work together and collaborate on US related topics using a central WikiProject template with standard parameters, newsletter, A Monthly collaboration process, a somewhat standard list of automated tasks (Popular pages, new articles, article alerts, featured content, etc) which many do not currently use. I am also planning on doing some recruiting for all the supported projects, will be working on some content drives in the future and various other things like some additional bots. Since this discussion has been open for 15 days I would like to see if there are any other comments out there. So far it seems like we have a couple that are ok with it and a couple that aren't so sure. Just to clarify the user box, project page and category structure are staying pretty much the same. A couple suggestions for the project

Since there still appears to be some hesitancy in Maryland being supported by WikiProject United States I'll leave these suggestions here if anyone wants to take them for action.

1. I found quite a bit of content containing Maryland, MD, Md or Baltimore that isn't tagged for the project yet. I created a page for that here. There are quite a few redirects but there are a lot of articles as well. There may be a few false positives but I haven't scrubbed it much yet although I did remove a few instances of things like Lord Baltimore.
2. Currently the Baltimore task force doesn't independently classify or rank importance for articles and I suggest adding that ability.
3. I also suggest adding the ability for Baltimore articles to independently track things like needing Geo-coordinates, images etc. This will allow editors interested in that topic area to more easily focus there efforts.
4. The WikiProject Maryland template does not support needs references or Infoboxes and I recommend that be added as well.

A proposal has been made to delete all Pittsburgh Pirates rivalry articles save Phillies-Pirates. I am posting this for Maryland as well being that MLB territory as well the Designated Market Area extends into Western and almost Central Maryland. There is some discussion on whether Baltimore-Pittsburgh qualifies as a baseball rivalry based mainly on their two 7 game world series in the 1970's. Pollution in Luke, Maryland?

Hi,

I have made numerous edits to the Luke, Maryland article pointing out it's listed by the Federal Govt. as one of the biggest sources of mercury pollution in the state. It has huge emissions, more than a pound a day some years. There are NUMEROUS sources for this. Basically it looks like someone from the paper mill is removing these edits not becuase they are disallowed but because they are true and put the company in a very bad light.

Text like this version makes sense to me. Something like this however, isn't really suitable, at least not in this form. First of all, the sources need to be cited, per WP:RS. Something like "verify this by searching Maryland State Government records" is not a citation. Secondly, this version of the text is not written according to WP:NPOV. The right style for wikipedia is just to give the facts, and leave out the editorializing (in either direction; we want to focus on the facts, not on spinning to either emphasize or downplay the risks). Baltimore Assembly

I am currently searching the contents of the old GM assembly plant, that has since closed down. This was a very frustrating topic to research because it seems there is scarce info on it. Anyway, there is currently a GM plant in operation in Maryland, but it is in Whitemarsh, not Baltimore City. Every search that I did kept leading me to this Whitemarsh plants information and website. I was quite excited when I actually did find this article, but a few details that I still need are not included on this site such as the actual street address of the plant, although I do know it was on Broening Hwy., I think actually in Dundalk(which is still Baltimore though)earlier I was thinking that it was infact downtown in the city. An (although old and very out of date)old phone number for this building would also be great! I remember the extensions but nothing else, except maybe 410!Ha Ha, my memory isn't always the greatest! Anyway, I would love to see some more info on Baltimore Assembly, and maybe even a note on some of the employees or names of people in charge. I am looking forward to checking back on this site, and reading more into WikiProject Maryland! Luke Maryland Pollution being under-emphasized.

It seems someone is altering the Luke, Maryland article to downplay the really huge amount of pollution in that town caused by the paper mill. Not only does the town stink to high heaven, (well, that could be considered original research) but the State of Maryland has identified it as huge "point source" of mercury. Luke Maryland Mercury Pollution

I think there should be more emphasis on the terrible mercury pollution from the paper mill in Luke Maryland.

This paper mill is putting out something like 250 pounds of mercury a year.

It is upstream from Washington DC and so pollutes all the lower Potomac, meaning a huge tidal area in the lower Chesapeake.

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

I went ahead and moved Template:Howard Count, Maryland to Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox) so that the name conflict was resolved in a somewhat better way. Personally I think that the templates cover distinct sets of topics and should not be merged. The unparenthesised templates cover the various communities and municipalities in each county. The parenthesised templates cover things like the administration, culture, and other notable features of the county itself. I see no reason to merge them. I wouldn't want Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox) included in the bottom of an article about a small rural town in Howard County, but I would want Template:Howard County, Maryland included. Likewise on an article about the government of Howard County I would probably prefer Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox) to Template:Howard County, Maryland. The main article on the county, and perhaps its capital should include both. A few other articles might warrant both as well. Zell Faze (talk) 17:46, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! mht dead links

Here is a list of dead Maryland Historical Trust urls. I see that this has happened before.

I propose a different solution. I propose to create a template that takes one parameter and then replace the dead urls with this template using an AWB script that functions much like to the currently running bot task that is doing a similar replacement for NRHP urls. See this discussion for more on that.

Here is an example of the replacement to be made:

1. this url is broken:

   http://www.mht.maryland.gov/nr/NRDetail.aspx?HDID=107&COUNTY=Washington&FROM=NRCountyList.aspx?COUNTY=Washington

2. it can be fixed by removing the www.:

   http://mht.maryland.gov/nr/NRDetail.aspx?HDID=107&COUNTY=Washington&FROM=NRCountyList.aspx?COUNTY=Washington

3. The important detail is NRDetail.aspx?HDID=107 so the rest of the query string can be removed:

4. Notice that when you click that link, the host redirects to this url:

I propose to create a template {{MHT url}} that will take one parameter:

The template will then provide the http://mht.maryland.gov/nr/NRDetail.aspx?NRID= domain and path to complete the url. Should MHT choose to tweak their urls in future (they've done it in the past, no reason to expect that they won't in the future) it is hoped that a simple fix to this template's core will repair the few hundred links extant in this project's articles.

Frederick Task Force

Greetings,

I am from the Frederick Pennsylvania Line Railroad Museum. I am not new to Wikipedia (see my main account User:Zellfaze, but I am being paid for the work that I am doing here today.

I am looking to create a Frederick County Task Force. I am planning to run an edit-a-thon here in Frederick in the next month or so and will be using that as a method of recruiting people for the task force. I am also pretty sure that @Risk Engineer: would be willing to join the task force as well (Risk Engineer, would you be willing to drop into this discussion?). I'd also be joining the task force in a non-paid capacity (as I live in Frederick and like to work on articles about this city/county).

At first I placed this request on the main talk page, but then I saw that there was a WIkiProject Maryland Assessment page and thought I should post there but then I realized that that section seems to have gone stale or doesn't maybe actually update. SO...
Nathaniel G. S. Hart, an article I created, received a re-assessment from another WikiProject and, because of technical issues, they also changed the assessments for all the other Projects (see Talk:Nathaniel G. S. Hart#Suggestions for Improvements). Anyway, so now the article needs to be re-assessed. If someone from this Project would re-assess it I would really appreciate it. I just left a comment at Talk:Inner Harbor#Freedom of speech about NPOV issues in Inner Harbor#Free speech. Aside from that section probably needing to be entirely rewritten, I think it belongs lower in the article for balance, but I'm not really sure where the best place to move it is, so I'm looking for input from other editors as not many editors are watching that article. Permstrump, I emailed a representative from the Maryland Historical Trust yesterday evening, but they're out of the office until next week. I also posted on copyright questions and the sole comment seems to be against.

Doing my own bit of digging it looks like freedom of panorama does include certain memorials that are commissioned or produced by the US government, but I've not found anything in the context of a state government, of which the MHT is a part.

I saw this yesterday and wondered about it. My thoughts are that, being a 3D object, there is some artistic merit in the design of the marker, so copyright would belong to the designer who is most likely the state of Maryland. However, Maryland is not one of the states whose work is in the public domain, so there is no clarity there. Obviously the image you linked to is copyright to the photographer who took it and I don't see any obvious copyright permission there, so someone may have to take a new photo. I have two questions for you. Was the marker erected pre-1978 without a copyright notice thereby placing it a in the public domain? What benefit is there to the reader to see an image of this marker in the first place when its details are easily made in prose stating the essence of the text if though necessary and the fact the marker exists? You could just avoid the problem entirely. I hate to be unclear so I 'm on the fence but veering towards it being copyright. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 13:13, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

ww2censor, looks like it was placed in 2013. I also note however that the Historical Marker Project site doesn't seem to have any qualms about soliciting individuals to take and upload pictures.

As to the benefit to the reader, I think part of the challenge of these types of articles is linking it to present day relevance, something I haven't gotten too deep into yet in this particular case (I'm still very much in the meat of the event itself). This is the visceral purpose of historical marker projects: to provide a tangible reminder that the ground under your feet was the site of a major significant event. What the Historical Marker Project policy is does not concern us; what matters is the copyright status of the marker which, of course, anyone can photograph. Historical Marker Project is almost certainly fair use, but Commons doesn't accept fair-use justifications, so such an image of a copyrighted marker would not be welcome there. It might be OK within en-wiki by using Template:Non-free use rationale. - Jmabel | Talk 15:08, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Timothyjosephwood, does it matter if the small print is legible or would it still illustrate whatever you had in mind as long as "Great Railroad Strike of 1877" at the top is clearly legible? Because I could stand further back and take a picture that gives more context to the marker's surroundings, that way it's not just a picture of the marker alone and doesn't include the entire text. If the actual content of what's written is the important part, either it could be paraphrased in the body or it might meet the criteria of the non-free use rationale, and when the person you wrote to gets back to town, presumably they'll be happy submit whatever's needed to allow WP to use it. —PermStrump(talk) 17:10, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Timothyjosephwood should have told me it was Baltimore Comic-Con this weekend. The marker is right next to the convention center and I felt out of place in my running clothes. :-P I took some pictures yesterday and was about to upload one to commons, but I've never uploaded anything there before, so I wanted to double check with someone before uploading it first to be safe. I explained the situation to someone in the IRC, that in the picture I took the smaller text isn't legible and there are other things in the picture besides the marker. They said to go through Commons:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder to be safe because "arguably it is a 3D work" although they said it's a stretch to call it 3D art. I guess that's what Jmabel and Ww2censor said too, but I misunderstood and thought we were just talking about the actual text being copyrighted. Our file photos are public record and we hold no copyright. We do request credit for use of photos from our files or our website, such as "photo courtesy of the Maryland Historial Trust." We also hold no copyright over other's images of the roadside historical markers.

Hi my name is Beth and I like my father have lived here all of my life. I read the article concerning Phoenix, MD and I noticed something that I believe is incorrect. To my knowledge there is no airport, not a public one anyway. There is an old Nike site in Phoenix that left many surrounding properties well water undrinkable. Water from wells on Paper Mill Rd was piped to those houses including those on Sunnybrook Rd sometime in the 1990s. The Greater Jacksonville Association silenced the fire stations emergency siren some time in the late 1980s or early 1990s, this was a result of new resident's complaints. The complaints were made after they knowingly purchased a home directly behind a working fire station and before reliable communication i.e. cell phones, etc. Other than that it looks good. Help with article for former Maryland lawmaker

Hi there, I'm here to see if there are any editors who could help expanding and updating the article for Stewart W. Bainum Jr. As many interested in Maryland might know, Mr. Bainum is a former state lawmaker in the Maryland House of Delegates and Maryland Senate, and has held leadership positions with Choice Hotels and HCR Manor Care, among other businesses. For more details and my COI disclosure, see this edit request. Overall, my draft seeks to improve the structure of the Stewart W. Bainum Jr. article, fix inaccuracies throughout, and highlight the details of Mr. Bainum's business and political careers. In particular, from news clippings provided by Mr. Bainum and from research on Lexis Nexis and HighBeam, I've been able to find a lot of older sources that provide information about his political career and development of the company that became Choice Hotels.

Hello, again! I have submitted an edit request to update the Wikipedia article for David Trone, who resides in Maryland. I've proposed a few updates to the article's "Personal life" section, and suggested a few links for "Further reading" and/or "External links" sections. The proposed additions (which I've outlined here) are not very controversial, in my opinion, but I can't edit the article directly because of my COI and I'm looking for a neutral volunteer who can review the proposed text/links and update the article accordingly. Hello! I would like to request that an editor update the Baltimore Choral Arts Society Wikipedia page. The institution is currently in its 52nd season, and Tom Hall's new official title is Music Director Emeritus. Lastly, Music Director Anthony Blake Clark's biography should be updated, and that information can be found on http://www.baltimorechoralarts.org/mod/staff/59 . I cannot make these edits because there is a conflict of interest, and I am new and inexperienced to Wikipedia editing, so I apologize if I am doing this incorrectly! WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

Montgomery County Task Force

There should be a Montgomery County Task Force.

More than 1 million people live in Montgomery County, and the articles that read about Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, etc are all of low quality in my opinion.

A Task Force should be formed to improve the breadth and depth of these articles. Montgomery County is more than just a DC Suburb and more most be done on Wikipedia to improve the coverage. SeanSmith81 (talk) 15:50, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Seeking precise location of "Kenwood, Maryland"

I'm trying to pinpoint the locale of "Kenwood, Maryland", as in the home and death place of cartoonist H. M. Talburt. Googling suggests it may be a neighborhood of Bethesda and/or Chevy Chase, MD. [1], [2]. Are there two distinct locations, or one on a boundary region, what is the most definitive administrative body (city/county) of each? Many thanks, --Animalparty! When I search for Kenwood, MD, I get a specific location labeled "Kenwood"; moreover, web searching yields a blog entry (not exactly a WP:RS) that indicates an address on Kennedy Drive and that he was married to a woman named frances; finally, searching public records yields a Frances Talburt at 6409 Kennedy Drive in Chevy Chase, MD. So, there is indirect evidence that corroborate the Kenwood neighborhood of Chevy Chase, Maryland that was mentioned in the NYT obit as the location where he was residing when he died. — soupvector (talk) 17:03, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Show Washington on map of Germantown, Maryland

Considering this sentence

Germantown is located approximately 25–30 miles (40–48 km) outside the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. and is an important part of the Washington metropolitan area.

I think it would be valuable to add Washington, DC to the maps, at least to Location of Germantown in Montgomery County and the U.S. state of Maryland.

That article is not very active, so I am adding this notice to the Discussion sections of WikiProjects Maryland (which is currently rated semi-active) and Cities.

PS: I saw a mention of a list of articles to fix, supposedly on the Project Page, but there is no such list there. Semi-active indeed!

Nolands Ferry

I have submitted a draft Nolands Ferry but it didn't fly. I followed the suggestion to put the new information in "Nolands Ferry I Archeological Site". Since that name includes "Archeological Site", it may be too narrow. How to fix that?

1) Can page "Nolands Ferry" be created with a redirect to "Nolands Ferry I Archeological Site"?

2) Or, can the existing name be changed to perhaps "Nolands Ferry & Archeological Site"?

Looking for help with request for Stewart Bainum Jr. article

Hi all, I'm looking for help to review and make an update to the article for Maryland businessman, Stewart W. Bainum Jr.. As you might be aware, Mr. Bainum has received a lot of media coverage over the last year for his efforts to try and buy The Baltimore Sun and its parent company, and then his work to establish local news site The Baltimore Banner.
