Objectives edit
- Create a category system derived from a single root category.
- Minimize the use of "military" in reference to all armed forces.
- Simplify the overall structure by eliminating redundant categories.

Create a single tree branched along a few general lines:
- [Root category]
- [History/events]
- [Actual armed forces]
- [Science/theory]
- [Culture]
- [Association categories (people, groups, places)]
- [Technical categories (lists, images, stubs)]
Restructuring phase edit
(Categories in italics are slated for renaming in Phase 2.)
- Category:Armed conflict/Category:Military/Category:War/Category:Warfare - overall root category
- Category:Armed forces - root category for topics dealing with specific armed forces (e.g. personnel, units, locations, etc.)
- Category:Military history - root category for topics dealing with events
- Category:Military science - root category for topics dealing with military theory, strategy, doctrine, etc.
- Category:Military culture - root category for topics dealing with depictions of the military in culture and art
- Category:People associated with war - root category for people associated with armed conflict (even if not part of the armed forces)
- Category:Military-related organizations - root category for groups associated with armed conflict (even if not part of the armed forces)
- Category:Military locations - root category for locations associated with armed conflict (even if not part of the armed forces)
