Link to Draft not available

Hello, Since editing and saving in the sandbox, the link to sandbox1 disappeared. The draft I've created was moved into that location and it was accessible by a link that they had provided. I recently was working on a contribution to another article in the sandbox and noticed after saving content this link disappeared - or a least I'm unaware of how to access or add the link. Not a big deal Draft:Kent Tate is still accessible - just not as easy to access. Thanks! LorriBrown (talk) 16:30, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi, LorriBrown. I don't quite understand what you're saying, but are you aware that you can look at all your contributions by picking "Contributions" at the top of the screen; and that should contain links to any article you have edited? --ColinFine (talk) 16:38, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

ColinFine When I created the article - I created it in the sandbox but indicated that it a draft. It was moved to sandbox1. The editor left a link so with a couple of clicks I could access the article. I just tried your suggestion (and that is helpful to know) but do I need to scroll through all the edits to locate a specific article. Wikipedia:Attack page An attack page is a page, in any namespace, that exists primarily to disparage or threaten its subject

The editors there are still waiting for you to response to the last post PoetVeches, these are serious responses to what we took to be an earnest question. The article is a characterization of people attacking President Trump as being irrational, i.e., having Trump derangement syndrome (TDS). It is not an attack on President Trump. As examples of people accused of having TDS, it names Joe Scarborough and Whoopi Goldberg. Perhaps their names could be removed, but not the article. David notMD (talk) 19:25, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

extra brackets??

I put the fact that Tony Guilfoyle portrayed the Bishop of Durham on the Crown, but when I try to hyperlink 'The Bishop of Durham', for some reason it adds extra square brackets on the page. @Magherbin: Welcome to the Teahouse. Whilst you may have followed the AFD process correctly, I think you were wrong to have put this article up for a deletion discussion without making any prior attempt to raise your concerns on the article's talk page first, and thus giving editors more than the 7 days to consider deleting or keeping it. Do you think it is a clear case of a hoax article? Or have references simply been misinterpreted? Or have you taken this action without even checking all the sources? The former would definitely deserve deletion, but in all other cases I think withdrawing the AFD, placing a "disputed" template on the page, and raising concerns on its and any other related Talk Page would have been the right process to have followed. To withdraw an an AFD, strike out you nomination and place a !vote which says: "Withdrawn by nominator -will first address my concerns on article's talk page". HI, I am a newbie and have already had edits to an article reverted! Great start! ha.

I am a friend of someone (aged 96) who has had an entry made about them. He would like it changed as it includes information he doesn't want in the public realm.

Hello, Edittoo, welcome to the Teahouse. Wikipedia is, effectively, a place where information already in the public domain and from reliable sources is collated. The subjects of those article (Leslie Marr) has no ownership of the Wikipedia content, or a say in how it is presented. (Unless, of course, there are gross misrepresentation of facts which need immediately removing) Your first edit summary said: Leslie wanted most of the references to his very brief stint as a racing driver removed and replaced with his success as an artist. Also he didn't want mention of his baronet status as he never uses the title. I'm afraid those are the two features about him that makes him Notable as far as Wikipedia is concerned, rather than as an artist. They are unlikely to be removed, I'm afraid. Sorry.

Your other edit summaries were extremely misleading: You added quite a bit of unsupported content, whilst adding a YouTube link into the body of the article, not removing it as you said. That was not acceptable, and it was reverted by an automated 'bot'. We rarely rely on YouTube as citations - just occasionally we use them in External Links. An automated bot reverted at least one of those additions. My impression is that Mr Marr would like the article's emphasis about him changed to focus on his artwork. That is understandable, but that can only happen if you can include references to where other notable organisations have covered his artist achievements; ignore his own online material in that regard. I hope this assists you in your understanding of how we operate.

Finally, because you are connected with the subject, you do have what we term a Conflict of Interest, and my advice is that you simply go to the article's talk page and offer changes that you would like to see made (with a suggested version of your text plus references) and leave it to an unconnected and more experienced editor to modify the article appropriately. Thanks for the comments and help Nick and Colin. Re the youtube links - there were originally two - one as a link in the word YouTube and one that was a straight link, I removed one, thought that was ok, (it wasn't) then removed the other. Neither was 'added' later. Re references that can be used - as Nick suggests I ask nicely on the pages Talk for someone experienced to adapt the article which references would be accepted? ones from websites? newspapers? periodicals? @Edittoo: I feel Wikipedia has done Leslie Marr a disservice. As my mother was an artist in south London during the war years, and was of exactly Marr's age, I felt moved to spend some time looking into him this evening. I now agree with you that his brief time as a racing driver pales into insignificance with his lifetime spent at the easel. It is by no means perfect, but I've attempted to pull together a little bit about his life and work, and have added his interview about David Bomberg in an External Links section. I have also added your photograph of Marr to the article. As you have access to him and his work, might I suggest you seek his permission to take and upload a small number of pictures of his work at a suitably low resolution so that it is OK for webdisplay, but not such quality that it could have a commercial impact if someone chose to use it? I feel I misjudged him and your motivation for making the edits you did, and would like to apologise if my early reply to you seemed brusque. I wish him well. Changing name of a file in wikimedia commons

there's an image file that's been bothering me for some time in wikimedia commons.

It's a picture of an insect, and it has been wrongly identified. I changed the description with a better Identification, but the name of the file I don't know how to change.

Hi, StrepsipZerg welcome to the Teahouse. As an entomologist, you'll be well aware of the significance of, and difference between, coll. & det. on museum specimens - something, sadly, that Wikimedia Commons doesn't care anything about. It has long concerned me that not enough effort is made on Commons to enable identifications to be either challenged or confirmed. Similarly, you'll be aware of the importance of retaining previous dated determinations as part of a specimen's history, and to enable the current identification to be challenged or amended in the context of the taxonomic understanding at a given point in time.

So, rather than simply changing the image name to accord with your views, I would advise first noting your concerns over the id. (Oops-have just checked and I see you did this back in 2017) My id skills only go as far as feeling, as you do, that this does indeed looks like a Psocid, and I note that was how you had changed the description. Personally, I feel it would be helpful for you to include a note in that description to indicate how it was originally described as a Strepsipteran, and included a note clarifying your own level of competence. I initially thought that the photographer might have been a specialist entomologist, but the set of images uploaded by his heirs suggest he was more of a microscopist, not specialising in any one taxonomic field - hence the greater likelihood for id error.

To actually address your question: you can request a file rename (actually a file move) using the 'Move' tab at the top of the page. (Look for the tab to the left of the search box). Once again, I suggest you include a note in that request on your own entomological competence to add justification to the name change - and do choose a suitably 'coarse' level of name to alter it to. Hi StrepsipZerg. As pointed out by ColinFine, you will need to request that the name of the file be changed by an editor who has been given permission to rename Commons files. First, please carefully read through c:COM:RENAME because the names of files are only changed in certain specific cases. If after reading this page, you still feel the file name should be changed, you can request it be done by adding c:Template:Rename to the top of the file's page (c:File:Psocoptera (265 04) specimen of Psocoptera.jpg). You can try using the "Desktop mode" at the bottom of the page, but for best results you should use a computer. If you are still unable to use the Wikipedia Adventure, you can look through the introduction. It provides similar information to the Adventure, but in a more traditional form. Happy editing! Mathieu de Montmorency

The Wikepedia page titled Mathieu de Montmorency has a portrait at the top of the oldest son of Madame Germaine de Stael, Auguste de Stael, which hangs in the Chateau of Coppet in Switzerland. It is NOT Mathieu de Montmorency and should be removed. Mathieu de Montmorency in his youth in Google Images looks like a younger version of the bottom picture. The two portraits currently on the page are quite obviously NOT the same person at all. I have no idea how to remove the incorrect portrait, but I am very familiar with Madame de Stael and her friends and family. Mathieu de Montmorency was a beloved friend of hers. Thanks.

This appears to be a valid concern. The image in question is File:Mathieu de Montmorency - Young.jpg. This is identified as "Portrait of Mathieu de Montmorency (1767-1826)" by an unknown painter, and sourced to the dead link http://www.histoire-empire.org/persos/madame_de_stael.htm.

I found the original painting in "The Chateau of Coppet: Portrait Salon" http://www.swisscastles.ch/Vaud/Coppet/covisiteguidee6_e.html#cinq described as Madame de Staël`s child "Auguste de Staël ( 1790 – 1827) represented in front of the Castle of Coppet by François Gérard"

The official website of Coppet Castle describes the portraits in the portrait salon https://www.chateaudecoppet.com/le-salon-des-portraits . It mentions a portrait of Auguste de Stael (Auguste, oldest son of Madame Stael, portrait by Gerard [translated from French]). It also mentions a bust of her second husband, John Rocca, but makes no mention of a portrait of Mathieu de Montmorency.

Hi Macy Williams. You made this edit to The Punisher (2004 video game), which was then subsequebtly reverted by an editor named Chris troutman. Basically, it looks like you were trying to add some of your own personal insights/opinions/interpretations about the game to the article. This type of content might be fine for social media or your own personal website, but it's not really appropriate for a Wikipedia article per Wikipedia:Original research. The content you find in a Wikipedia article is really only intended to reflect what's being said about the subject of the article in reliable sources which are secondary and independent of the subject. These sources are then added to the article in the form of citations for verification purposes. None of the content you added was supported by citations to any sources, which means there's pretty much no way to verify the accuracy of any of it. Perhaps what you added is true based upon your own personal experience, but Wikipedia requires something more than simply be true or being based upon your own experience. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:07, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

The message was because you added nearly two thousand bytes of new text without including any references, but what is more significant is that the text was a copyright violation from https://www.techtimes.com/articles/141392/20160317/the-punishers-best-video-game-is-every-bit-as-brutal-today-as-it-was-a-decade-ago.htm, hence your action was illegal. Are you using a computer or a phone? Using a computer, if you go to User:331dot there will be a link a little ways down under the Wikipedia logo that says "email this user"(under tools). You can add your email address to your Preferences and also not check the "allow other users to email me" box if you don't want others to email you. Hi RevinCBHatol. Many templates are semi-protected as a precaution because they are being used on so many articles. Templates can be tricky to edit so even a well-meaning but incorrect edit to the template syntax can have a huge impact project-wide; moreover, they can be easy targets for vandalism for the same reason. This particular template was protected by an administrator named Primefac with this edit to prevent these types of things. If you believe that there's an error in the template that needs fixing, then just make an edit request at Template talk:Japanese era names and someone will respond. It may take a bit of time, so you need to be a little patient. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:45, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

@Rocky 734: Open the article on this Wikipedia and select "Wikidata item" on the left side. It will open the corresponding page at Wikidata (in this case Q918) where you can add the translated page to the "Wikipedia" column by selecting "edit" and then inputing the language code and the article name. Vandalism?

I was just reading the link on the main page to the Special Counsel Investigation and was shocked to read the very derogatory comment within the text of the fourth paragraph about President Obama. Hello, LorriBrown. I am in complete agreement with you that the edit was reprehensible, and as an adminstrator, I have blocked the IP account that made that completely unacceptable edit. We do not protect an article as the result of a single disruptive edit. Instead, we block the disruptive editor, so that other productive editors can continue improving the article. On the other hand, if there is an ongoing pattern of disruptive editing from several IP addresses and/or several new accounts, it is appropriate to protect the article for a while. When you see vandalism, revert it and warn the vandal. The best place to report ongoing vandalism is the Adminstrator's noticeboard for vandalism, and the shortcut is WP:AIV. There are a couple more references there now. Since all articles are judged on their own merits, and since Wikipedia as a whole is a work in progress, the existence of problems with other articles doesn't mean that problems with an article shouldn't be fixed. Notability of an article about Ancient Warfare 3, a battle simulator on Steam

@LiamUJ: at this time I don't think that this game is notable enough for inclusion. Please review the notability guidelines for commercial products, as well as the essays on notability for software and computer games. Because it is a commercial site, steampowered.com is not considered a reliable source. Also, the game is currently in "early access," which means that it is not a finished product. Generally, games in development are not deemed notable. (For example, it is widely understood that Madden NFL 20 will be released in five months, but it does not have its own article at this time.) Sadly, based on the references you've included, my view is that it would not pass through at Articles for Creation on the grounds of 'notability'. Software games are 'products' and have to reach a set criteria before being OK to add to the encyclopaedia - otherwise every single book, software, toy, child safety seat, food product or in fact anything under the sun that just a couple of review websites had commented upon would be eligible for a page here - and that would end up turning this encyclopaedia into a shop window for Amazon or its equivalent. (Not that that doesn't stop people trying, either!). Perhaps you would care to read Wikipedia:Notability (software) to get a sense of what type of product, and what type of "yes, the world has taken notice of this product" you would need to be able to demonstrate. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I hope it won't stop you participating in building this amazing encyclopaedia by contributing other ways to game-related articles. The reality is that creating a new article from scratch is the very hardest thing anyone can achieve here - and for a beginner it's doubly difficult. You might find things that you could get stuck into over at either Wikipedia:WikiProject Software or Wikipedia:WikiProject Games. Thursday, 16th inst.— John Riley, an old mountain identity, said to be the original of Patterson's "The Man from Snowy River," died on the way from Groggin last night. He was carried on a stretcher most of the distance, and died on the road from heart failure. Groggin is 50 miles up the Murray from Corryong. Although the pace was lacking, Riley's last journey over the rough mountain tracks must have recalled to his mates the lines he inspired:— Through the stringy-bark and saplings on the rough unbroken ground, Down the hillside at a racing pace he went; And he never drew his bridle till he landed safe and sound, at the bottom of that perilous descent.

Anyone with experience of the Kosciusko country will realise the difficulties that faced the five bushmen on Tuesday morning when they set out from Groggin to bring a helpless and half-unconscious mate to the Corryong Hospital. For those who are unacquainted with this part of the State it may be mentioned that Groggin is a cattle station in the heart of the mountains, about 50 miles up the Murray from Corryong. It lies tight at the foot of Kosciusko, and is only accessible by pack tracks. The route in general use crosses into New South Wales. The other track keeps to the Victorian side all the way, but in traversing the precipitous Indi Gorge some very rough country is met with, and the grade in places is very dangerous. Gradually all the mountain roads converge into Groggin, and it is the only point from which the ascent of Kosciusko can be made from the Murray valley.

For nearly 30 years John Riley has lived at Groggin, and for that time has been in charge of Mr. J. Pierce's cattle station, which comprises most of the good land there. Familiar with every inch of the river country, he has given all assistance to numbers of tourists passing through, and was better known than probably any other man on the mountains. A fearless and dashing horseman in his young days, a first-class hand among stock, and an Irishman, open-hearted and generous, he was liked and respected by all who knew him. In bushcraft, even among the experts of the Murray, Gippsland, and Monaro, he stood alone, and it is said that some of his exploits formed the basis of Patterson's well-known verses on "The Man from Snowy River."

Gifted with the bushman's unerring sense of locality, he had a supreme contempt for the compass, and delighted to relate his experience with a party of city tourists which visited Groggin some years ago. The weather was treacherous, and Riley offered to guide the party to the top. They told him that there was no necessity for him to come, as they had a good compass. Foggy weather set in, and two days afterwards a party of bedraggled pedestrians returned to Groggin, with the one desire—to get back to civilisation. Riley said never a word. He gave them food and a drink of tea, and catching his horse, led them over the Divide, and put them on the Geehi track for home.

Advancing years and the rough life had been telling on Riley lately, but he refused to leave his mountains except for a brief visit to civilisation now and again. Word reached Corryong on Saturday that his condition was serious and some of his friends decided to bring him to Corryong to the hospital. With this object Mr W. H. Findlay, a well-known Kosciusko guide, went up to Groggin on Sunday last. Rain fell all day Monday, but a stretcher was improvised, and arrangements made for the departure next morning. Messrs A. and J. McInnes, F. Jarvis, and R. Butler assisting. About half-past 9 o'clock on Tuesday the party left the Groggin hut, carrying Riley on a stretcher, the men taking turn at the handles, and leading pack horses with provisions and blankets. The first four or five miles from the valley was covered without much trouble, but when it became necessary to climb out of the gorge over the shoulder of the Hermit Hill the real difficulties began.

The track ascends through wild scrub and rocks over 2,000 feet, and the party soon found that the task was beyond them. To make matters worse snow began to fall, and the cold became intense. In all difficulties the bushman turns to his horse, and a mounted pony provided the solution. Riley was lifted into the saddle, and Butler the lightest of the party mounted behind him. Butler held the reins and supported the half-unconscious man. Two of the others walked alongside, holding him in place, and the long ascent was successfully made. Snow was thick on the ground as they came over the top of the spur, and more was falling, but the party pushed on and ascended into the Hermit's Creek late in the after-noon. The stretcher had then to be brought into use again, and just at dark the party reached Surveyor's Creek Junction, where a deserted mining hut provided shelter for the night. Mr Jarvis went up the creek to the tin mine, and arranged for assistance in the morning, and the others made a fire and installed the patient as comfortable as possible in front of it. He seemed to rally a little, and spoke to his friends, but, the weakness reasserted itself, and shortly afterwards he suddenly swayed, and died. Out among the great trees with the rain falling gently on the roof of the hut, the old man breathed his last. The body was carried eight miles into Bonroy, in a little over four hours. Four miles further on Messrs R. Findlay and E. Pendergast met them with a buggy, and just before midnight on Wednesday the last stage of the journey was reached. An inquiry was held to-day, and the deputy coroner returned a verdict of death from heart failure. This afternoon the body of the old bushman was interred in the Corryong Cemetery, in the presence of his mates and a few friends.—"Argus."

Jack Riley 1841-1914 Born 1841 Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland, the son of Daniel Riley and Nancy Murray. He migrated to Australia at 13 years of age arriving in Sydney, New South Wales, on 15 March 1854, aboard the ship, 'Rodney'. The young man travelled to Omeo in the Victorian high country to live with his sister, Mary Anne, Mrs Joseph Jones, and her family. After her first husband died, Mary Anne married a Mr McGown and moved to the busy gold mining area at Cassilis, near Omeo. Jack, for a time, worked as a tailor in a shop directly opposite the Golden Age Hotel in Omeo and then worked as a stockman at Monaro where he acquired a reputation for his horse handling. In 1884 Jack Riley obtained work as a stockman for John Pierce Sr., who owned land at Tooma and Greg Greg. At that time, the Pierce family owned many thousands of acres of land in the Upper Murray and owned and held leases on 20,000 acres of land at Tom Groggin, west of the main range of the Snowy Mountains. John Pierce gave Jack Riley a management role, supervising his cattle in the high country over the summer months and then the job of mustering the animals down from the mountains to the home paddocks before winter. Jack lived in isolation in a hut high up in the hills at Tom Groggin for over 30 years. He loved the Snowy Mountain Country, a good yarn and enjoyed a social drink or two. He was also a good mate of the late Walter Mitchell of Towong Station, who introduced Jack Riley to Banjo Paterson when the pair was on a camping trip. In 1890 Banjo Paterson, the poet, stayed a night at Jack Riley`s hut and Riley told the tale of one of his exploits about chasing a herd of wild horses, and from this Banjo Paterson wrote his poem "The Man From Snowy River" – he died 15 July 1914 and buried Corryong Cemetery. In 1956 a rough granite head stone was erected by Tom Mitchell in memory of him.

I need to report an admin, but the FAQ is confusing me

A normally inactive admin is trying protect a documented scam artist? They have erased all mentions of them, purged the history from the pages, locked said pages, and banned people for making properly sourced edits.

@Caffeination: Welcome. You haven't given us very much to go on. But that sounds like very unusual behaviour, if that person has already been deemed 'notable' as a result of their scamming activities (or for other more legitimate reasons) and already has a page about them here. All content added about a living person must be neutrally written and be supported by reliable references, and editors do get blocked for repeatedly adding content when told not to. If, however, that scam artist has been deemed 'not notable' in Wikipedia's eyes, and a decision was previously made to remove anything written about them, then it would seem quite appropriate to prevent others from trying to resurrect page content or add unsupported statements about that 'documented scammer'. Should the former be the case, the first thing I would do is go to that editor's talk page and politely ask if they would explain their actions to you. Name the article or the person, offering 'diffs' to highlight any editing actions you would like an explanation for, or reliable references if you believe you have sources that are signifcant that relates to an existing article. A discussion should then follow between you. Keep polite - don't level accusations; stick to facts. If, after an appropriate period of discussion, you feel your concerns haven't been answered satisfactorily per our guidance and policies, you do have the right to raise your concerns about another editor's failure to follow policy, and you could do that at WP:ANI. (Your own editing actions would be looked into, too, of course). But the first route of action is simply to seek an explanation from the other editor - whether or not they are an administrator here. Hi @Nick Moyes:. The person has not been deemed notable on their own, what has happened is that they have been removed from every page they were mentioned on. They had taken wikipedia-worthy actions pertaining to notable people, and these actions were all sourced. People have already confronted the admin in question in some cases and nothing was resolved.

I normally only use wikipedia to update anime voice actor roles, this is completely uncharted territory for me. I literally have no idea what I'm doing or how to format anything. But I do have proof I can send to whoever needs it that inappropriate edits have taken place and have been covered up.--Caffeination (talk) 17:18, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

@Caffeination: I can only repeat my advice. Approach the editor/admin, and then if not satisfied, simply raise your concerns at WP:ANI. Loose allegations of bad faith editing are of no use; a few good examples of what concerns you will be needed. Nobody will block you for raising concerns if you can demonstrate them. Editing a bio

Hello Wikipedia Teahouse,

I have tried to edit a bio of Joel Ario's that is inaccurate as it stands. Everytime, I make the changes, I see them, but a week later they are back to the old inaccurate bio without my edits. Do you know why that is? What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your help.

Technical question on "Helio radial velocity" in boxes about galaxies.

Hi, I'm a very occasional tweaker of pages so I'm not familiar with the right area to ask this technical question, can I get some guidance please. There is a parameter commonly used in boxes about galaxies called "Helio radial velocity" which I think is based on the recession speed that would produce the observed redshift by Doppler and as such must be less than the speed of light. However, that doesn't relate to the rate of increase of distance to the galaxy which can exceed the speed of light due to the expansion of the universe hence the standard entry can be misleading for anyone not already knowledgeable in cosmology. Is there a Wikipedia source where I could find a policy on how the recession speed should be represented or is there a more suitable forum where I could ask this question? @GeorgeDishman: You could try asking at the talk page of the Astronomy project: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Astronomy. Or, if you look at the talk page of the article you're working on, it will probably have a box at the top that says which project the article is part of. RudolfRed (talk) 22:14, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
