Hadith edit

Unflavoured, even Muslim scholars argue about which hadith are strong, weak, or unreliable. Western academic scholars are even more skeptical. They believe that most hadith (even the sahih ones) are later inventions. Therefore you can't conclude that because Tirmidhi says Muhammad said something, therefore Muhammad said it. Hadith involving Sunni-Shi'a issues are particularly problematic, because these hadith were first written down after the overthrow of the Umayyads and when the Sunni and Shi'a were finally irrevocably splitting.

I'm not making this argument from a Shi'a viewpoint. Most of the Shi'a editors dislike me intensely, because I am writing from a Western academic viewpoint. Insofar as is possible (there's only one of me and I can't watch all the Islam-related articles) I try to make sure that articles are as neutral as possible. That means not allowing statements that make POV assumptions.

That also means opposing anti-Muslim bigots, who dislike me as well. Welcome to Wikipedia :) Zora 06:26, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Using "narrated" is NOT OK in my book -- it's used by ulema, not by Western academic scholars. It's an idiosyncratic usage with a religious flavor, and makes it sound as if the matn were true. Which it may not be. Look at the rewrite I did and see if that's better. Zora 06:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Asalamualikum edit

Thanks brother, i will ask for your help inshallah soon, i am working to completely rewrite the article of Caliph uthman, becoz its was very small and didn't provided complete info of this great Caliph. see it in my sand box, on user page. Well, i am now a bit confused on the article and work is stoped, wather Uthman's empire's frontiers were upto moraco in west or upto tunisia ??? if you know it tell me, i have to go to library to check it out, inshallah tomarow i will go.
i will also start work on the new article "Rashidun Empire" or islamic Empire,(the 9 million square kilometer empire at its peak, ruled by rightly guided caliphs, the rashiduns) see its info box in my sand box, if you can help me in it you are most well come, it gonna be huge so i cant work alone, if you know some one else then tell me i will ask him too, and as usuall gonna need strong correction in grammer etc sentences etc etc... Asalamuaikum, welcome back! i have compelted the article of Uthman ibn affan, and have writen these articles as well, Battle of Chains, Siege of Jerusalem (637) and Conquest of Damascus. now i am try to make my mind to restart the article of Rashidun empire[2]. I am confused, wather to start writing new article for Caliph Abu Bakr, or to restart this one. And one thing over which i need help or you can say suggestion is that " will i make the new article by the name Rashidun empire or Islamic empire, or will i edit it into pre-existing atricle of Rashidun Caliphate ???? suggestions needed, what do you recommand ?

Mohammad Adil 10:41, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

    • Asalamualikum, i read your suggestions about the naming of the article which deals with the empire ruled by Rashidun Caliphs. But i had a look over the article Rashidun Caliphate, its theme seems to be the same, and more over there is a "category" by the name Battles involving Rshhidun Caliphate, and in many of the islamic history stuff the era is remmembered as Rashidun Caliphate or Khilafat ar rashidah, i mean it seems that all will gonna distrub if i made an other article with the name rashidun empire, so how do you think the emergence of the article of rashidun caliphate with rashidun empire ????, or will you defend the begining of the new article rashidun empire ?????

Mohammad Adil 21:28, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

    • And yes i am also making a new article with the name Rashidun Army or Rashidun Caliphate army, and the article of the rashidun empire is almost complete if you have time so plz check it for grammer etc etc etc .

Qur'an edit

Unflavoured, there are a great many traditions about Muhammad's life, including central tenets of the Islamic religion, which are found nowhere in the Qur'an, but "only" in hadith or sira. That's not usually thought a problem - were it so, we'd be completely unable to construct any kind of coherent biography.Proabivouac 08:34, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Turkey protests edit

You wrote "the protests in Turkey have been going on for many, many years, and that is a fact. RS have mentioned that these protests were renewed this year after being inspired by other protests in the region, and that is also a fact. I think that there are solid arguments both for including Turkey, and for not including Turkey. That being said, perhaps it is wisest to wait a while to see if a RS will mention that these protests are a part of the Arab Spring or not, instead of "being inspired by." After all, it might get its own article: "Kurdish Summer," as opposed to the current "2011 Kurdish protests in Turkey." That means you oppose the request for inclusion of Turkey unless we have a RS for it. I agree. It's said that I'm the only one who is against this. So, as you are also against that request now, would you consider changing your comment to a vote? That would show that I'm not alone. Kavas (talk) 16:00, 30 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

In response to your concern edit

I suppose I should have clarified: I believe, under any circumstances, that if we have a page on Middle East and North Africa protests, and there are protests in Armenia and Azerbaijan, they should be included. But the reason why I've put as much work as I have into the 2011 Armenian protests and 2011 Azerbaijani protests pages, and the reason why I've been as active as I have in advocating for them, is that I believe they deserve some recognition. I understand your concern but I don't believe I've compromised my integrity as an editor. -Kudzu1 (talk) 11:08, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I hope not. Thank you very much for bringing that to my attention, though. My intent was to address the user's accusations, as he appeared to be concerned that I have some sort of anti-Armenian agenda, and to explain that my passion for the subject is for much less malicious reasons; I should have done better to make that clearer. -Kudzu1 (talk) 11:32, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

May 2011 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Mecca massacre. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. You have made 3 full reverts on, and 4 partial reverts on Mecca massacre, in the last 24 hours. If you make one more revert of any kind, partial or full , you will have violated WP:3RR, and you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --Wayiran (talk) 14:45, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Muhammed's death edit

Hello bro... Thanks for removing the nationality, as I noticed it's kinda weird, too. I'm really concerned about the misleading stating that the cause of his death is illness. The "farewell" section's citation says that he had a head-ache, lol. Dying from illness most-likely sounds like a serious disease. How is that if Muslims claim that he had many medicine knowledge. Do you think we can use another term to minimize the possible misunderstanding. I'm kind of confused. Please reply on your-own talkpage. Happy editing ~ AdvertAdam talk 06:12, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Flotilla disinformation video edit

Thanks for your well-researched sources on this. I didn't mean my comment in that thread as trivializing or dismissive, but rather as just playful. If you look at the source Sean had just recommended to me it includes a very salacious video produced by the same guy, but for Puma shoes. I wasn't ridiculing your sources or your suggestion, though; far from it. If I was ridiculing anything it was the maker of the hoax video for his silly Puma video. About MOBA/Action RTS edit

Look, judging by what you said on the multiplayer online battle arena talk page, I think you may be getting the wrong impression about my motives and my perspective on the issue. The truth of the matter is, soon after I created the page for Dota 2, somebody else created a page for the "Dota genre". The consensus was, that since a genre name had not been solidified amongst the community and the Wikipedia editors for consensus, that we would link to that page, but use the name "action real-time strategy". I made edits to most every page by actually linking that very same reference you used on the Dota 2 page to justify the perspective on the genre. Earlier this year, I successfully changed the page's title to action real-time strategy. However, about half a year later, we had all received enough demands for changing the name of the page that it became clear that multiplayer online battle arena was the dominant name. So, I begrudgingly changed the name and realigned all the relevant pages to fit MOBA, unfortunately.

Wikipedia policies have been refined, even in the last two years, since Dota 2 was released. I'd really love to have action real-time strategy sit on that page, but I can't justify it with it being the name that Valve likes anymore. I hope you can understand and forgive me for this. DarthBotto talkcont 00:59, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's not up to you to decide what makes sense; it's up to the community. You did provide a source, but that doesn't mean that the name that we go off of will be changed. And yes, I am talking about the Dota 2 page, because if you want that name to stay on that page, you will have to change the name of the multiplayer online battle arena page. This isn't about a conflict between you and I- you could revert it to saying action real-time strategy, but because of what was reached on the MOBA page, it will be reverted by another user. DarthBotto talkcont 03:28, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
But, as a sign of good faith, if you were to revert it back to "action real-time strategy" on the Dota 2 page, I wouldn't revert it again. DarthBotto talkcont 03:37, 22 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am not interested in reverting for the sake of reverting. I want the change to be based on policy. I see no reason why the name HAS to be changed on the MOBA page just because it is changed on the DotA 2 page. But please let us discuss this on the DotA 2 page. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
