Bounty navigation box

Regarding Template:Mutiny on the Bounty—I acknowledge that I was not very clear in my rationale for the trimming on 21 May, and for that I apologise. However I really do not think it is necessary to link here to the Simpsons episode "The Wettest Stories Ever Told" in the "Related" line. The relevance here is a third of an episode spoofing the Bounty films—seven or eight minutes at the very most. It seems to me undue weight to list it as a "Related" subject alongside the ship's Bible (which became notable in its own right for its role in the development of society on Pitcairn), the families of the mutineers and the 220-year history of the Pitcairn Islands. In any case it isn't clear solely from the title, "The Wettest Stories Ever Told", what the link refers to. It seems to me that linking to the mutiny, HMS Bounty and the specific characters in the text of the relevant section in "The Wettest Stories Ever Told", and adding the article to Category:HMS Bounty in fiction, is enough. Is this okay with you? —  Cliftonian (talk)  12:01, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Cliftonian, thanks for your efforts.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 14:24, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
Hello again Tony—I'm sorry we seem to be having a difference of opinion over at this template again. Can you please explain to me why you think the important explanatory notes "and 17 others" and "and 12 others" are not necessary? You are correct that things should be kept brief as this is a navbox and not an article, but these are only six words over two lines and they really do a lot to clarify matters. A student reading up on the mutiny with little background knowledge may take a glance at the navbox and get a wildly misleading impression regarding how many people were on board and how many took which side. The main priority of both article and navbox should be to communicate the facts concisely and accurately and taking these clarifications out in my opinion just muddies the waters on both counts. I hope that you will consider letting the notes stay. I hope you're well. All the very best and have a great weekend. —  Cliftonian (talk)  03:23, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
Cliftonian, I spend a lot of time on WP:CBBALL templates. When a 15-man team wins the national championship, it gets a template. If only 6 or 7 players are notable, we don't include the linked articles and then say plus 8 or 9 other players. A template serves to link notable articles. We do not explain non-notable articles therein.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:12, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
A basketball team always has the same number of players on the court and, so far as I know, never splits into factions of "loyalists" and "mutineers". Different ships have different numbers of people on them. I could understand your objection if we were talking about explanatory footnotes within the template or long sentences with specific names and so on, but this is three words on each line. I don't understand why ambiguity should be preferable when things can be made clear so simply and unobtrusively. —  Cliftonian (talk)  06:06, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
The templates are not for the five players on the court. They are for the whole team and every team has a different number of players, actually. All teams are allowed by the NCAA to offer the same number of scholarships (I think it is 12 or 13). The team that I root for has filled out its roster to 15 with non-scholarship walk-ons. Other teams have more or less walk-ons. Not all teams have the same number of players. There is no reason to list the number of non-notable players on the template or divide the template into scholarship and non-scholarship players however.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 15:23, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Brianboulton and I are going to open an FAC for Mutiny on the Bounty tomorrow (1 June). I am happy to mention this issue and ask the FAC reviewers to give their opinions. Is this okay with you? —  Cliftonian (talk)  16:07, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
The article has been nominated for FAC here. I have not mentioned this in the nomination because I did not want to bring it up without getting confirmation from you—if you want to see this discussed in the FAC nomination, please let me know and I'll happily put it in. Thanks, —  Cliftonian (talk)  02:09, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

A summary of a Featured Article you nominated at WP:FAC will appear on the Main Page soon. I had to squeeze the summary down to around 1200 characters; was there anything I left out you'd like to see put back in? - Dank (push to talk) 20:41, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Dank, can we use the picture from The Great Wave off Kanagawa for the main page?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:11, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

  • From a purely copyright perspective, it's fine. But I am not amenable to the idea of running an image of a completely different work of art; it's sure to draw ire at WP:ERRORS. Does anyone remember that time false potto ran with an image of a potto? It lasted two hours before being pulled, with some discussion.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 12:23, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject Basketball discussion (Standard statistics format) input

Hello, sorry to bother you but I would appreciate your opinion (whichever it is, even if it's contrary to mine) on the topic Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball#Standard format for Euroleague and domestic league statistics. If you have none on a discussion that's central to European basketball only I would perfectly understand, it would be useful to note the fact. By polling the most active members of the WikiProject Basketball it would at least make everybody's opinion (or lack of) on the issue clear and a discussion that has largely been between me and AirWolf (talk) could be closed (ideally in a consensus) for the foreseeable future. Again sorry for blemishing your talk page. --ArmstrongJulian (talk) 10:51, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

FYI

Tony, this discussion, Wikipedia talk:Categories, lists, and navigation templates#The inclusion of 'Commons', 'Wikiquote', and 'Wikisource' on appropriate templates, has now been converted into an RfC on the same page. Given that you took the time to comment on this issue previously, I thought you would want to know. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:56, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Tyrone Garland GA?

Hello. I have recently been working to make Tyrone Garland a GA-caliber article. As an experienced editor, could you please take a look and maybe review it against the GA criteria? Thank you. TempleM (talk) 03:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

I apologize that I have become an infrequent reviewer, but the article should pass from what I can see.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 03:56, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Republican Conference Chairman of the United States House of Representatives in the infobox

Republican Conference Chairman of the United States House of Representatives is part of the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives. I noticed that the current chair, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, has an infobox and thought that it would be fitting if Kemp were to also receive one. Previous chairs, including current House Speaker John Boehner and former Vice President Dick Cheney also have the infobox for this position. I understand that you feel that like this position is irrelevant, but it is one of the most important positions in the House. Therefore, I will return it to the way I had it, with Kemp being agknowledged for his service as Republican Conference Chairman of the United States House of Representatives. Please just leave my edit alone.--Count Awesome (talk) 15:53, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
