editPlease note that the standard article title for UK roads is A1094 road. We now need to move your article to that title over the redirect. If you're creating any more road articles, please do so at the correct title. Thanks. PamD 22:43, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

- I've sorted the dab - see below - and directed it at the right Farnham - the one in Suffolk rather than the one in Surrey. And removed reference to Yoxford which it goes nowhere near. And the trivial refs, and added punctuation before refs and sorted the ref remaining out so that it actually makes sense on the page - I don't use cite web so if you're going to use it you need to do that yourself so that it makes sense when the page is published. And used the conversion template to give dual distances. Maybe you'd like to check my diffs and see what I did and how I did it? Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:35, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for February 1
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited A1094 road, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Snape (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

817238791372116137 bus route AfDs
editWouldn't it have been a good idea to group some of them together as multi-article AfDs, rather than having the truckloads of individual AfDs? I do agree with them being deleted, just I think there's a tidier way of doing it! Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:50, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, Good idea. Should have though about that before doing it. Sorry. Wilbysuffolk (Talk to me!) 16:23, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- That's OK :) Just a reference for the future! Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 16:27, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- In Wilbysuffolk's defence, years ago we had an RFC on the subject of Bus Route Lists which suggested each should be individually discussed for deletion/keeping. Consensus is solidly moving to delete now and the arguments are literally copied and pasted with minor changes to fit the specifics of the nominated page so grouping could be considered. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 17:24, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I wasn't suggesting a job lot of all 20 or however many it was, 4 groups of 5/ 5 groups of 4 would be much more manageable - especially as consensus is generally to delete. That RfC would've been before my time, I guess :) Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 17:58, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

editHello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on biased users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:49, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- If you do look at the comments they are neutral and I only distributed them because they contributed to past discussions. Wilbysuffolk (Talk to me!) 18:39, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I have indeed looked at the comments, and I am not questioning their neutrality, I am questioning the partisan nature of their distribution. If you don't understand that, then please answer this - how many did you send, to whom did you send them, and how did each of those editors !vote in the past discussions? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 18:49, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am sure Wilby was acting in good faith in the interests of improving Wikipedia and unaware of canvassing policy. I expect he will not be doing it again.--Charles (talk) 19:09, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- Really Demiurge? Canvassing from a message advising that editors should check the AfD lists? As it is only one editor has voted Delete in the recent debates and that's Rcsprinter who has already been commenting without being informed. If you really want to hunt down people canvassing, then you might want to ask yourself why Adam Mugliston has suddenly appeared after a month and a half editing break with no on-wiki notification but didn't respond to earlier notifications about his own articles? As for you don't you have some sneaking around snitching to do elsewhere like you did with Bob and Charles to m.o.p? I'm sure you could wander the streets of your hometown looking for expired taxdiscs or cars parked on yellow lines and inform on them to the local traffic wardens, what about catching dogwalkers leaving excrement in public places and informing enviromental services, you seem to be community minded enough? Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 22:51, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- That's a good idea Stuart, I really do dislike people who disrupt the community by spreading excrement around in public places. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:00, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I had already warned Wilby about canvassing with a link to the relevant policy on my talk page, as Demiurge the Lurker must have seen. That makes this heavy handed intervention all rather over the top. Re. Mugliston it will be interesting to see if more new accounts or IPS also start popping out of the woodwork if this excessive number of AfDs has stirred up the off-wiki bus spotter community.--Charles (talk) 08:45, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- No one thought that I watch, but not edit? Adam Mugliston talk 11:13, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Of course I *considered* it Adam - that's why I pointed out that you hadn't commented on the the AfDs for three of your lists that you were notified about in previous weeks. Yet mysteriously turned up the day Rcsprinter123s lists started getting nominated in bulk. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 13:58, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

- If you have evidence of canvassing, I suggest you present it, rather than speculating and hand-waving. It's hardly surprising that an editor might take more of an interest when articles that they watchlist get nominated for deletion "in bulk". --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:49, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Seems a little defensive, given I didn't accuse you of anything Demiurge. I also didn't accuse Adam, I suggested that since you seem to consider canvassing investigations one of your areas of contribution, perhaps you should investigate why Adam reappeared. Adam has since responded to the question himself with another question to which I have replied. There's nothing to see here and nothing for you to comment on, unless you have further evidence to present? However as any such canvassing would have undoubtedly occurred off-wiki only those involved would be likely to have evidence to present at all. And my point was a comparison of a previous "in bulk" deletion of his own articles against a "in bulk" deletion of other editors articles. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 18:19, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- You seem to be suggesting my account has been taken over. I am still me and I simply decided to comment since there were so many at one time. Simple just couldn't be bothered good enough? Adam Mugliston talk 20:44, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Who mentioned your account being compromised? That has not been mentioned by anyone, the only question raised was whether your previously mentioned off-wiki discussions on skype and email with Rcsprinter included a discussion of this bulk deletion - if you are claiming that that has never come up and you were not bothered about deletions earlier in the month but are bothered now then no one can prove otherwise. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 23:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Seems to me that he can comment, or not comment, on discussions wherever or whenever he likes. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 23:26, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Really? You're still here Demiurge? As I said earlier you're being awfully defensive, and raising points that aren't in dispute - If you wish to share your own off-wiki contact then do so on your own volition. As it is, I'm responding to Adam's statement to me in it I acknowledge his statement and do not claim that statement to be untrue - this is in no way challenges his right to comment or not. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 23:58, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- "share your own off-wiki contact" - huh?
- "I acknowledge his statement and do not claim that statement to be untrue" - excellent, glad that's all sorted. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 07:44, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- "Yet mysteriously turned up the day Rcsprinter123s lists started getting nominated in bulk." I'd say that does potentially suggest compromisation of my account. My private contact with people who happen to be Wikipedia editors whether on the subject or not is private and should not play a part in this. Adam Mugliston talk 16:20, 26 March 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.169.196.32 (talk)
- Nope it was specifically mentioned in a sentence about canvassing not one about your account being compromised. As for the second claim which looks like admission by omission feel free to read the sections on Stealth Canvassing in the above policy. It specifically covers the use of email or other off-wiki communication to notify editors of a discussion. BTW in case it's not clear - your behaviour is not in question here - if someone contacted you off wiki then it is they who behaved inappropriately but it was your return that raises the question of whether someone had behaved inappropriately. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 17:20, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- Well, if Wikipedia can have influence on my private conversations, then I think it's a stupid policy. But still, Wilbysuffolk did not contact me about the deletions. 86.169.196.32 (talk) 20:16, 26 March 2013 (UTC) Adam Mugliston talk

- Of course it can, Meatpuppets, Outing, Canvassing, all can occur off-wiki and can disrupt editing on-wiki there has to be policy in place to deal with disruptive editing caused by it. - Editing Wikipedia is a privilege not a right. When you edit you are inherently agreeing not to conduct off-wiki canvassing and other disruptive hidden activity. If you don't accept that just don't edit.--Charles (talk) 20:57, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, everyone has the right to edit Wikipedia unless blocked and it is certainly not a privilege. Don't recall accepting terms and conditions, and you can't expect every user to read every policy. 86.169.196.32 (talk) 21:12, 26 March 2013 (UTC) Adam Mugliston talk
- Those who have tried to claim a right to edit under under the rights to free speech in the US constitution have soon found that it is not a right. It is a privilege extended to all unless they give reason for their blocking. Thank you for your thoughtful comments, Charles. I was indeed aware that you had already warned Wilbysuffolk about canvassing, but either he did not read the linked policy page or he did not understand why it applies to his actions. This can be seen by his response in this very section. That's why my use of the standard canvassing template, which emphasises the specific and separate issue of needing to be "nonpartisan in distribution", was neither heavy-handed nor over the top. Seemingly Wilbysuffolk now understands the distinction (after a little more discussion), so both he and the project have benefitted. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:49, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Just a comment, when I asked Wilbysuffolk in person about his canvassing I was told he "might as well". Adam Mugliston talk 20:44, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Bus route deletions
editHey. As you've recently started a AfD dealing with the deletion of bus routes in the UK I'd like to point you towards a new section at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Buses#Mass deletion of lists of bus routes in xxx that I'd appreciate you taking a look at. My gut feeling is that there's just too many of these open for now. I appreciate the work you do in this area, but... Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:49, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- It would also be helpful to notify individually all the associated geographic wikiprojects. Unless a proper discussion involving all interested parties is achieved, mass deletions of this nature cannot be held to represent community consensus. Espresso Addict (talk) 11:09, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on List of bus routes in Cambridgeshire, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Charles (talk) 10:26, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
The speedy was declined on a technicality but I have nominated it for deletion at WP:RfD because having it around only encourages recreation of a full list and it is not a particularly useful redirect because there is no such list.--Charles (talk) 09:44, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Simondsofbotesdalecoach.jpgeditThank you for uploading File:Simondsofbotesdalecoach.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 06:46, 9 July 2014 (UTC) Copyright checks when performing AfC reviewseditThe issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered. If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.) If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}. Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors. I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC). I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sulaiman Markhor, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: They're different things, if related. There may be an argument for merging, but that shuldn't be done through CSD. Start a talk page discussion. Thank you. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:08, 7 November 2016 (UTC) New deal for page patrollerseditHi Renamed user dfghtjd64, In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created. Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work. Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying.
