I have proposed a format for Bengali literature article on its talk page (Talk:Bengali_literature#Proposed_format). Could you please come and express your views and opinions or update this format? Cheers. -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 14:17, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Necessity knows no law

Dear Ragib, thanks for arising this issue regarding the images of our Birs. Actually, for a long time there is none images of our birs, so I did that, as a senior editor you can delete those. I do not have any interest to edit articles rather than Bangladehi Article. Relax if possible, or delete if you feel it was wrong. Wish your good luck. --Librarianpmolib (talk) 04:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Couldn't find anything to fill in the blanks for the images. They may have to go till we find a solid solutions. Should I suggest a fair use upload to the Librarian? Aditya(talkcontribs) 08:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
I believe fair use would be the only solution until we get permission of the photos. I'm optimistic about that ... Munir bhai has already obtained permission from Prof. Rafiqul Islam to use his famous Language movement photos. I think he is in touch with Matiur Rahman's family, so his photos will also be available. Don't know whether photos of other Bir Sreshthos exist or not ... --Ragib (talk) 08:53, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

I believe that so. By the way, Mr. Munir Hasan is perosnally known to me and he has got the permission to use the photograph of or Language Movement, he donated me a book titled A photographic History of Language Movement (1947-1956). Actually we can share us with a positive view all the time. Please see the list of Bir Uttom, currently I will complete the list of our all birs. In the meanttime I have completed the list of Bir Shreshtho. Keep watch me because I am a younger editor. --Librarianpmolib (talk) 04:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Sitakunda Upazila

The article on Sitakunda Upazila has gone for a second peer review. It really needs some merciless review, as I ma trying to deck it up for an FAC as soon as possible. It also needs a thorough copyedit and a request has already been posted to WP:LOCE, but a response still lies firmly in the future. Please, take a look (lend a hand, too, if possible). Image copyrights

I have replied to your image copyright posting at INB and Village pump. In the past, I have found WP:MCQ to be a very useful resource for image copyright queries since it seems to be populated by knowledgeable editors. The issue is pretty straightforward in this particular instance but I am pointing out the link for future reference. Regards. Abecedare (talk) 18:31, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Help

I thought you can help here. I want to use some references for the article Meghna Bridge.

I am especially confused with the first, second and last source. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 01:21, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Answers are below:

    • Doesn't seem like an RS to me. I mean, this is not any reputable organization ... and I also suspect they copied info off somewhere else.
    • Same as above
    • No idea about this engineering firm.
Sorry to butt in. Nippon Koei apparently has some notability. See this, this, this, this and this. Thanks. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:11, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Is this RS?
    • Not a well-known columnist or writer.
Sorry again that I butt in. Momtazuddin Bhuiyan apparently has written a book Bangladesh on the Road to Development, and is pretty active in Bangladesh-Japan relations arena. He also is indeed a naval architect. Not much else I could find. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:16, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Is Banglapedia RS?
    • Banglapedia is definitely very notable. This is a print encyclopedia compiled by the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, with grants from BD Govt. However, the site you linked to is probably not the real Banglapedia site... that would be www.banglapedia.org . (Since the encyclopedia was also released in digital media, many websites pirated the content). --Ragib (talk) 02:29, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

OK. So I can use Banglapedia. Thanks to you both. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 09:16, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

recent Brahmo Samaj edits

Ragib, your caution is much appreciated. It is nowhere near being (yet) a revert / edit "war", nor is there a content "dispute". There is adequate communication between recent editors at Brahmo Samaj via the edit summaries - not (yet) requiring resort to discussion pages. In the course of providing appropriate (and acceptable) citations, there are bound to be differences between editors in the "manner" and "style" of presentation of content in the article. The Talk pages and dispute redressal forums are always available if required. BTW the previous issue on your talk page,ie. of clone "Banglapedia" sites was not known to me, and I shall henceforth use the .org site if the same content is available there. I am also copying this to Brahmo Samaj Talk. Landirenzo (talk) 06:37, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Kushtia District

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Kushtia District, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Kushtia District. AfD nomination of Illegal Bangladeshis living in India

An editor has nominated Illegal Bangladeshis living in India, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Illegal Bangladeshis living in India and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I am not sure how much I can do now. But I can do review/verify etc. Currently, the font there is a bit small and I don't feel comfortable with that. Shaheed Minar Outside Bangladesh

Hi Ragib, I noticed you removed the section from Shaheed Minar page. Fair enough. I am very new in Wikipedia. I created the "International Mother Language Day Monument" page mainly to learn about Wikipedia. It has been marked for deletion. That's ok too. Could you please tell me when the article is deleted does the photo get deleted too? I would like to keep the photo in another page, "International Mother Language Day". I think it is more relevant in there. Thanks - Anisur —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anisur57 (talkcontribs) 06:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Feedback requested in an RfC

Hi Ragib, I am wondering if you might like to weigh in on an RfC that I initiated earlier this week. I fear that the discussion there has degenerated. I'm aware that you might not know anything specific about the language concerned (which I don't either), but since you wrote an FA on the Bengali language, I thought you opinion might be valuable. I've tried to explain this more precisely in my statement (at the expense of using too many words which I hope you don't find too off-putting). Needless to say, if you do decide to say something, I don't expect you to say anything in support of my position, only to provide you best opinion. Request for comment: When does the literary tradition in a language begin? Regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 21:40, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:1tk.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1tk.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

3RR

Hi Ragib 1) I have not broken 3RR since I have placed talk on the discussion page well before (at 1RR stage) which nobody has cared to reply to while proceeding to undo my edits. 2) The anonymous ID was due to Wiki cookie problem and not intentional. 3) I have also placed a DISPUTE tag for Pirali. 4) I also find it curious that DwipaniyanC is now replaced by you. Sroy1947 (talk) 06:49, 13 April 2008 (UTC) Sroy1947 (talk) 06:49, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi again,

The ref i removed was not a "valid" reference. It is a litery reference (in passing), not from a specialised source dealing with sub-division into clans of Brahmins. You may please see the 1st RR I did and my edit summary which you 2 seem to have overlooked. In any case from the outset I have been insisting on DISCUSSION which the 2 of you avoided / evaded while indulging in vandalism. You 2 are edit warring, not me. I am disengaging now, please remove Pirali. I have left some further talk on the article's Talk page. Sroy1947 (talk) 07:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Ragib, You seem to be an "involved admin". Wikipedia is NOT a biography (which may be authorised or unauthorised). It is an ENCYCLOPEDIA - where every fact asserted is to be Factual and verifiable. I am not in the least concerned with literary biograpies, the Banglapedia ref I cited was from ENCYCLOPEDIA (not biography) - and YOU deleted IT in favour of some dubious biograpies. Image copyright question

Hi there Rajib, about the Khaleda Image, I have contacted the Asiatic Society via Email, a sent an email to the Information and Queries first, but didnt recieve a reply. So I then sent an email to all of the contact details for the image, General Secretary, President, Library, Publication, Support & Queries and Web info., didnt get a reply from any of them but then did get a reply from the Publications email, confirming that it can be distributed under the Commons license, but the image cannot be edited in anyway. Is that enough information to be accepted? Moshino31 (talk) 18:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

All images and publications on Banglapedia are owned by the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. I dont know who gave me the permission, but the only thing they said was, I am allowed to release it under the Commons License, but did not mention which one, and the image cannot be replaced with an edited version of it. That's all I know. If it doesnt go according to Wikipedia rules, then it should be deleted if that is what you are saying. Moshino31 (talk) 18:27, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

শুভ নববর্ষ

Pirali: R.N.Tagore

Dear Mr.Ragib. Samaren Roy p.88- what exactly does it say in the 6th or so line from the bottom of the page? Why are you embarassed to quote exactly from the book. Does it use the word "tainted" or suchlike in the context of the WOMEN of A Tagore family? Does it specifically refer to R.N.T's branch of Tagore family? Does it not go on to say something to the effect that they were in fact one of the 4 highest classes of Brahmins? Have you ever bothered to personally read what Krishna Kripalani wrote about Dwarkanath Tagore in the book you cited, beginning with the title of the chapter "As legends go" and at pg.6 onwards the words "supposed stigma", "tale of legend" "the tale is worth telling whatever its historical merit", "it is obvious that (n)one of thelegends cited above can be deemed very credible", "relied on hearsay for their "facts"". If you have no respect for Encyclopedia kindly respect those who do. I shalldemo;ish each and every one of your citations except Asiatic Society which I cannot locate due to it's age - Please quote exactly from it. Sroy1947 (talk) 12:30, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Please check these articles

Dear Ragib Bhai, much appreciate your comment on the following articles: for notability - Mustafa Majid, Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Kishore Bangla, Jatin Sarker, William Radice, Bangla Desh - A Voice of a New Nation and for copy-vio/original research - Banalata Sen. Regards, Arman (Talk) 17:00, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Jatin Sarkar seems legit and notable ... winner of Bangla Academy Award. Kishore Bangla ... borderline. Mr. Chowdhury or someone else known to him created his own bio, which is a COI, you might raise the issue with him. No idea about Radice or the "Bangla Desh" -book ... --Ragib (talk) 04:24, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Radice happens to be one of the foremost researcher and writer on Bengali literature in Europe, especially in England and especially about Tagore. An author of many books, including Tagore translations, he indeed is notable (check here and here). Kishor Bangla (I believe that would be the right spelling) is one of the pioneers of adolescent literature sheets in Bangladesh, and had been so for a decade before it went defunct. Ali Imam, Afzal Hussein and many other celbrity writers and artists began their career with the sheet. Certainly notable, but given the amount of documentation available in Bangladesh (especially on the net), it would be difficult to support that with proper sourcing. Aditya(talkcontribs) 12:51, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks to Both of you. Any comment on Banalata Sen? I'd suggest to remove all translations keeping only the one by the poet himself, do you agree? Arman (Talk) 02:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I've removed the poem text and its translations. The poem is still under copyright, and will come into PD in 2014. --Ragib (talk) 02:17, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Nazrul

Given the number of Bangladeshi editors currently active and interested, I guess, the article on Nazrul will need some extra help. Agreed ... we need all the help we can get, and the list sounds great. --Ragib (talk) 15:13, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
It seems help is not forthcoming fast :( ... And, frankly, now that I have read the article more carefully, I believe it has got quite a number of problems both in the area of copy and citation. I am trying to lay my hand on a couple of books. As soon as they are in, I go cracking for sure. But, the article will definitely need copywriting support. When that need arises, I'll post to let you know. Fair? I certainly hope so. Aditya(talkcontribs) 10:09, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Bangadesh rail station list to show a/first station across border

Greetings

It would be helpful to show a useful Indian railway station across the border in the list of Bangladesh railway stations to help match the data from the two countries. This can be marked with relevant flagicons  .

Such as   Sealdah.

Otherwise maps and lists of stations are very hard to follow.

Why did you delete my completely different and neutral Adil Najab entry?!

Is this some kind of information war?

I googled the name, and found over 1000 entries from external newspapers and media. Read about the man, and understand that he is percieved by Americans as a world expert on Muslim affairs. Is this not the case? I understand his blog is one of the more popular blogs on the web. Seems to me there is some sort of politics in whether to mention or not this person's name. Hi Ragib - as you are a key contributor to this article, I would like to like to inform you of the changes I've made. Please don't take offense at the removal of data. My reasoning is this - speaking in context of the overall article, why risk removal of FA status. Its a subject on which there doesn't seem to be as many sources available. As a solution, I don't see why we can't just remove the non-essential sentences/facts without due citations - none of them seem critical or vital to the article. It won't diminish, as it doesn't seem people here can find any better literature. And is it worth risking the status of the overall article over those non-essential sentences? I don't think so. To be sure, I've left those alone which I felt were of some importance. Regards, Vishnava talk 12:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Swaping Redirect

Ragib Bhai: Currently Mohanganj Upazila redirects to Mohanganj, which has the main article. But, I believe, to be consistent with all other Upazila articles, it should be the opposite: Mohanganj should redirect to Mohanganj Upazila, which should be the main article. I tried to fix this, but couldn't figure out how to do so. Could you please help? Arman (Talk) 03:47, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

FARC of Kazi Nazrul Islam

Hi Ragib - I request you to take a look at the Wikipedia:Featured article review/Kazi Nazrul Islam. A few editors have raised the view that Banglapedia is an inherently biased source; they also object to books published by the Nazrul Institute. Its a complicated argument that Armanaziz and I have sought to counter, but its time to have a third view. Vishnava talk 14:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Depth in Hindi Wikipedia

Hi Rajib, thanks for your comments. The importance of quality is underlined again and again in every discussion on the hi wiki community, and there are many users now who are creating substantial content. But even these users can not stop themselves from creating new articles when they don't see any on their favorite topics. I would hate to police such activity and curtail such enthusiasm; and also because I believe a stub is better than not having an article at all. I guess we'll just have to live with the depth as it is now. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 22:44, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Keshub Chunder Sen

Hi Ragib, I've added another photo to the Keshub Chunder Sen article. I think it might be good enough for the lead, but I put it further down the article for the time being. I get the feeling there's more going on with that first photo than I care to know. You might enjoy seeing the book that this new one came from - Bengal Celebrities by Srikanta Ray, 1906. It's fully available on Google Books.[2] regards, priyanath talk 04:53, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Indeed, it's obvious the first photo is just as legitimate, and came into the public domain long, long ago. I have a book with a photo that is even more similar looking to the first one (because of the pose), even though it's part of a group shot. So, it's just a very strange obsession this person has then. Hating a photo....I guess it could be worse. I've added the page to my now miniscule watch list. priyanath talk 05:43, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Ragib, I'm so sorry about this mess, and that editor's extreme adharmic behavior toward you. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help as this evolves (I'll be away for several hours now....). best, priyanath talk 05:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I'll keep watching the article, although editing WP will have to take a back seat in my life for awhile. The fact that he's known at that yahoogroup, by his real name, makes me hope that he won't do anything stupid. Good luck, priyanath talk 02:48, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Dear Ragib, we have to think about Cox's Bazar. Some information were wrongly written there, as--- it is 120 km sandy sea beach with muddy flat. And it was cited in New7wonder's site as a description of Cox's Bazar. The disputed image

Hi Ragib, In case the argument comes up again, I found that image of Keshub Sunder Sen in a book published in 1870. You can see it in the Google Books version here[3]. The book is by Keshub Sunder Sen himself, haha. Lectures and Tracts by Keshub Chunder Sen, edited by Sophia Dobson Collet. Strahan & Co. Publishers, London, 1870. priyanath talk 23:11, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Wow, very interesting, and thanks a lot for the link. So, the anons/vandals have been lying all along !!! --Ragib (talk) 23:22, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi Ragi. story of this image is no so superficial. in Sibnath Sastri you will find root of controversy about falsing of images and portrates of Ram Mohan Ray and Kesob . Sibnath and Hem Cunder Sircar later gets all Miss Collets papers which are in Sadharan Somaj safety now. After 1878 split Miss Collet is big opponent of Kesob, and she writes how Kesob image is faked in London. It is good that Kesob page is fully protect today. I am truly sorry for removing the tags (the {{}}s)

But is there any way that the articles can be seperate articles? If you are (Removed some personal info) , then I think one of the articles refers to your ex-department, and you, as a very senior wikipedian, could edit and shape the article much better than me. And wikipedians from Bangladesh are slow to respond, and often great articles are formed by editing and reediting a very ordinary articles.

Thank you

Olive Branch

Dear Ragib

As far as I am concern no contribution can go without controversy, no matter how siginificant or non significant that contribution is.This is applicable in any field of knowledge.

I have the understanding you are approaching Wiki on the basis of what it is not , instead of what it is.That is in the long run would kill off the desire of any would be contributors. As a premise it is also an insuler process.

I myself is not a contributor type.Rather more a studious type. But in my approach to any faculty of knowledge I give the benifit of doubt to the other partys. When giving benifit of doubt particualrly in Wiki type project I would go back to the basic premise that it is depending on people , not institutions. If it would happen the other way you migh or you might not get a chance as a contributor.

We also got to remember the contribution of the inventor of "World Wide Web".Instead of selling of or keeping an intelectual propritorial grip on his invention he gave it free to everybody. One supreme instance of magnanimity.Who knows whether or not Wikis basic premise was inspired from this idea.

In one sense the contributors are also users. So one of the unwritten "welcome" note is to be userfriendly. If the user of a particular information dosnt feel comfortable then it should

be taken seriously.Same goes for the practitioners of certain field. If the contemporary practitionars taste and devolopement dont feel accomodated then also the userfriendlyness can be questioned.

So if we take the welcoming attitude of WIKI as a big umbrella your attitude is it got to be determind who could come under this umbrella.I would feel very uncomfortable to know that it is raining heavily and you are the one holding the umbrella. It is actually elitism. Another thing is prejudice.Whoever is contributing British Poetry or Scieence as a whole is not only taking Nobel instituitions as reference.

Same can go for discussing contemporary Bengali poetry. If you take only Bangla Academy prize winners as reference point then a lot of "Notable" ones would be omitted.I remember Tridib Dasdidar never had any book publised. But he was a potential poet in his time. It is not simply possible for you to know everything of everything! The claim is not healthy! In that way we would only get Shakespear as the British poet or Tagore as the lonely flagbearer of Bengali poetry.

Every little contributions add to a greater impact. I understand that Wiki is not "Democracy".But it has'nt either claim itself as tyrannical or fasist!Whoever, whatever way contributing to the Bengali Poetry or in the greater project of Bangladesh is actually adding colour to it.Having a colour blind attitude would only reflect in Wiki what in genaral caused Bangladesh to come to a confusing, corrupting, suffocating standstill in almost every sphere of life.

When we go to search for European music...we get Bethoven, Motzart...same time we get Punk Rock, Jazz, Granje or the tiniest devolopement here and there. When it come to the formal, informal, scholarly practise in European faculties of knowledge the attitude is to add and spread. There the Sorborne bred Sartre met consitently convict Janet. The Bengali attitude seems completely opposed to it and getting more blinkered.

I appreciate you are doing the Wiki job almost single handedly.I admire your capacity.I wouldnt mind calling you the MC(Master of the ceremony). But a MC is not only a dried up batton winding chap.He/she is also the most colourful, cheerful and magnanimous person. He introduces one after another new comer on the stage.

I hope that you would put back what you have taken out of "Bengali Poetry" section and not be harsh on the ongoing contributions of the "Minority" individual poets or groups. Misplacement of few names wouldnt realy make Tagore shiver or diminish Modhushudhons name. But omiting, reverting, wiping out would realy add to the sequel of "Jhograpoor".If an individuals request dosnt bother you then what's the point of you doing all these? We all have limitations. But somewhere in my heart I believe you can come out of limitations.

I needed to stir up to see who is doing what.I would'nt mind teaming with you or anybody who want to make a thorough study of Bengali poetry till today.

I live the matter to your consiencious judgement.

Thanks

Dear Choyon / and/or various anon IPs. Wikipedia is NOT a blog, or a random collection of information. I suggest that you look into WP:NOT first. A random list of poets has no place in wikipedia. I suggest that instead of adding back the huge unreferenced list, you focus on writing about the various generations of Bengali poetry and provide references from reliable sources to back your statements. Otherwise, please don't restore the removed text. --Ragib (talk) 03:02, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

General Notability Guidelines

Mr. Ragib,

Could you please tell me how this article did not met notability guidelines? Please note that just popular does not mean a notable person. This author has national award (Shishu Academy), most importantly he has contribution in literature related to liberation war and history for children more than many people that you all added. Please let me know. Thanks Kaushik kamal 71 (talk) 18:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC) KK

notability

I have seen. The person has a National Award (Shishu Academy), just one criteria is more than enough compared to others. Can you tell me how many people (writers) get this award? You included many people just because they are popular in media now, this does not mean they are notable. But that's okay. Then add Pronob Bhatta, rather than adding Hasan Azizul Haque or Akhtaruzzaman Ilias. Please take it seriously, because I have observed serious bias in your selection. Please try to understand that you may only know the recent history of literature of Bangladesh. I also have added reference from third party. You can help me by providing guides in using credible references and other required materials. Thanks. Kaushik kamal 71 (talk) 19:59, 26 July 2008 (UTC)KK

Sindh

Apologies, I'm not really familiar with the area. I came across Runa Laila at List of Sindhi singers. I assume she should not be listed there? I don't believe that list should have an article, so I've been going through the entries. The ones that weren't already in the category, I added, because I figured if they were actually Sindhi singers, they should be in the category. I relied on the original person's determination of who is and isn't Sindhi, and that probably wasn't the right thing to do. Let me know your opinion of that article and whether the bluelinked entries belong there or not. Thanks, Enigma message 06:50, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I think the "Sindhi" here refers to Sindhi language, and NOT to Sindhi people. Runa Laila has sung songs in many South Asian languages besides her native Bengali language, these language include Hindi, Urdu, and perhaps Sindhi. By by no means is she a Sindhi by ethnicity, nor is Sindhi her main language of choice for singing. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 06:52, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

No. The copyright belongs to the original artist, or the entity that commissioned the poster. This is very likely to be the work of the Govt of Germany. If BMJ reproduced it, that won't give them ownership of the poster image. So, the answer is NO. --Ragib (talk) 06:20, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

"Stamp crusade"

You are not the sole authority on what constitutes fair use. If an image is deleted after discussion on that particular images page - then the image can be removed from an article. However you can not remove an image from an article simply because you deem the "fair use" justification inadequate. I'm not sure why you have decided to scower Wikipedia and remove every stamp in existence, but it is bordering on vandalism in it's scope, and matched by an attitude of incivility to others.   Redthoreau (talk) RT 21:07, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I didn't upload this stamp in question as you assert, but I know the very reliable editor who did. I would also add that the first rule of wikipedia, is that there are no rules. You are violating the "spirit" of the law, in deleting all stamps on the site, merely because you interpret the language to mean that no stamps are allowed.   Redthoreau (talk) RT 23:18, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Handwaving doesn't help much ... you either provide substantial coverage of the stamp in the article to justify fair use, or you can't have the stamp. The criteria is very clear, you can ONLY use the stamp to illustrate the stamp, and NOT the subject depicted in the stamp. BTW, blanking my replies to your comments from your talk page amounts to disruption. --Ragib (talk) 00:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Email/Script

Hi Dispenser,

I sent you an email about the use of your readability script. I would like to run the script for about 2000 articles starting from tonight. I hope it's ok with you. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 00:58, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, the emails have been marked as spam recently. Concerning the script its runs on my webpywikipedia library is based and compatible with the m:pywikipedia library. The sources are available in the in /resource/sources/ directory, written in python, and need a little modification to run from the command line or to output in CSV. I've made two "significant" versions of the tool, one (v1.x) which parses the wikitext and strips all the metadata and one (v2.0) which downloads the HTML contents and strips tables, list, and HTML. It all depends on what kind of data you’re looking for...
I'd be willing to improve my code to help accommodate your task. This could be more interesting as you could download the wikitext of each page and rerun modified variants of the script on those cached pages and see how it changes the output. Now if you are going to use the web interface anyway try running during non-peak hours at a rate no more than 5 hit/minute(per wp:bot policy). — Dispenser 03:22, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip about the scripts. I noticed that you have already deployed v 1.4 and v 2.0. However, the v2.0 gives a different result than the previous versions ... have you finished coding it?
It will be quite nice if we can use the readability script to test readability of a particular version of a page. Can your script do that now? Thanks again in advance. --Ragib (talk) 03:01, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
By the way, in v2.0, you refer to the syllable module, but I don't see the code for that under the resources directory. Where do I get that? --Ragib (talk) 03:01, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Basically what happened around the time of 1.3beta I was looking for a better way of doing things while still experimenting with new concepts. So I designated 1.3 as the test bed for testing/communicating new ideas and 2.0 would be a rewriting using a completely different parsing, HTML instead of wikitext (brought by problems of templates such as {{nihongo}}), standardized syllable parsing (Perl syllable library), and separation of code into functions. Development slowed as my work load increased and I slowly realized what a load of crock readability algorithms are in general (e.g. SMOG has standard deviation of 3). I created 1.4 after you posted to reduce the code maintenance nightmare of the separate codebases and to slowly merge features from 1.3 and 2.0 while improving pywikipedia porting support. I'd be interested in hearing what kind of project your doing. Below is some code that should help you get to the old version of pages.

Any specification about the sites that can be used in citation

Is there any specification or standard that need to be followed when using reference of a website for citation?
What if someone does as below:

  • Target some articles on wikipedia
  • Collect/Scrap data on those topics
  • Put the data on a website
  • Use extensively that website as reference on those wikipedia articles

Is this allowed?
Not sure if this helps to improve google pagerank.

Hi Ragib, asha kori je aapni bhaloi achhen. Recently, there have been a lot edits and counter edits regarding a BLP article, Binayak Sen. nn

It's hard to understand how someone would say that "Mandindra Gupta is one of the most influential poets of the post independence Bengali poetry." does not indicate importance or significance. Juzhong (talk) 07:20, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Since you perhaps didn't really read the "Entire" article, let me quote that below:
Mandindra Gupta is one of the most influential poets of the post independence Bengali poetry.[citation needed] He was born in 1926. Spent his childhood in Barishal, Bangladesh. His schooling took place in Shilchar Assam and in Calcutta. After the formal education he joined Indian Military and served in the Northwest frontier of the country. Later on he returned to Calcutta and used to work as a teacher of machine designing.
Does the above 5 sentences, save for the hand-waving in the first sentence, actually say anything about why the subject is notable? If you still see more that are expressed in these 5 sentences, we can always waste more of our time and take it to AFD. But honestly, after reading the whopping 5 sentences quoted above, do you still claim the person is notable? At best, this is a big hoax (2 ghits including the wiki page and one of its mirrors). Being a Bengali and quite familiar with Bengali literature, I know very well that this is a hoax, and only the bio of an NN person.
I also noticed that you have removed the prods from several other pages I nominated, claiming inadequate rationale. All the pages I marked for prod were of minor poets who fail WP:N. And I clearly mentioned this in the prod nom. So, I'll just take these to AFD and waste 5 more days of several people's time. --Ragib (talk) 08:31, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
OK now it's clear to me that you think "nn" means "I don't think this person is notable" not "this person has not been the subject of substantial independent coverage". I will need to watch your contributions in future. Juzhong (talk) 08:57, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
You are always welcome to look into my edits. Please copy this link somewhere to enable you in this quest :). --Ragib (talk) 09:01, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
BTW this is a well-organized hoax, they managed to get this imaginary person's work into Voices from Bengal By Manabendra Bandyopadhyay, Sukanta Chaudhuri, Swapan Majumdar and everything. Impressive. Juzhong (talk) 09:05, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Regards & Requests

Dear Mr. Ragib,

Thank you for pointing out some of my oversight and hopefully I have corrected them. It is one thing to delete or edit my writng when proper citation was missing but when provided I find your actions were not justified. To edit a paragraph into a simple line is absurd. I do know that this is what Wikipedia is about and accept it. Just think of it as a silent protest from my side that is written here.

At this point I would request you to respect each other's political beliefs. The choice is yours sir. Incognito1980 04:43, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your message. I do not really have any particular political belief at all in Bangladeshi politics. So, there is no issue on whether I am pro or against any political figure. As for the edit you refer to, the BBC article makes a speculative comment (and not a fact) about the case at the last sentence. While we can definitely use the info about the verdict from this article, the last comment is speculative and not encyclopedic. If you have more details about the case, feel free to add to the sentence. Finally, how do we know that the verdict is a "landmark" verdict? References from reliable third parties that term it a landmark verdict can support this statement, but otherwise we can't just claim it to be a landmark case. You are always very much welcome to add to the article. On a related note, you might expand his personal life section ... that is missing from the article at this moment. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 05:18, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

ISI

I have explained all I need to explain. The Operations History of ISI is fully cited from a book. Its pointless to have a discussion with morons like CSHunt68. He is obviously here to push his agenda and viewpoint on ISI and not create a meaningful article. Instead of deleting 80% of the article like he proposes. He just should tag the sections which he thinks lack citations and I will get them or expand the citations if need be. But he won't agree to that. As you can tell from your long list of going back and forth with him, that he is delusional. I am not going to have a discussion with such bozos and think something productive will come out of it. I am sorry but that's the way I feel. I will add more citations and add page numbers to the operations history section. Rest of the article is fully cited. I can tell that CSHunt68 is Indian and is out to malign articles that deal with Pakistan. Its obvious from your back and forth with him. So thanks for the offer but once you expire the ban, I will add more citations including page numbers as such and I will revert whatever nonsensical changes that CSHunt68 will obviously make like removing 80% of the article. Thanks Mercenary2k (talk) 22:43, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Rather than replying here, you should reply in the article talk page with what you said above. Relevant policies that will help in making your case are: WP:V, WP:NPOV, WP:UNDUE etc. --Ragib (talk) 22:47, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
I really don't have to put up with comments like that, and DR or not, I'm reporting this, again.CSHunt68 (talk) 04:12, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Ragib, there is no case to make. All the information that CSHunt68 is trying to revert is properly cited. Just tell him to add citation needed to any section which requires more citations and I will get them. I have several books on the ISI and I can use those to beef up the citations. But CSHunt68 is clearly of the mindset to butcher this article by removing large chunks that he doesn't agree with. These kinds of users come and go. Notice he doesn't have his own wikipedia page where as I have been awarded 4 stars for contributing to wikipedia. CSHunt68 clearly came with an intention to get into an edit war. I hope you stop his butchery of this article. Thanks Mercenary2k (talk) 05:35, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't have time to act as a proxy and relay your words. Please use the article talk page. If you DO have the references, please present them in the article talk page directly. It doesn't help your case at all if you make personal attacks, and also are unwilling to say why your preferred version should stand. --Ragib (talk) 05:51, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Well I don't have all the time in the world. I work too and my work requires global travel. Anyways, I will see if I can get further citations next weekend. Mercenary2k (talk) 06:03, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

(UI) I note, with dismay and disappointment, that these statements have been permitted to stand, without sanction or repercussion. It doesn't speak well for the community, frankly.CSHunt68 (talk) 03:36, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Invasion of Goa

Hi Ragib,

Since you took the initiative to stop the edit war at Invasion of Goa, I request you to step in again. Husond has not made any contribution to the discussion ,instead just chose to make curt remarks at me. I pointed out that they have neither references nor any justifications as per Wikipedia naming conventions and waited for two weeks without any respnse from Tigerassault or Husond. During the period of the discussion I did not even once revert the edits. In the absense of any response for two weeks and with an understanding that my edits were supported by WIkipedia naming convetions I made this edit[6] which Husond has reverted thrice without disussing. He wants a consensus (which I feel he interprets as a vote). In this revert he made a very pinted comment at me:[7](undid. I didn't bother because you could not accept that your views and arguments were not making any sense to other users.)

When I asked him if his comments were justified[8] he responded by calling my discussion as "trolling" [9]. I am dealing with a rather difficult and unresponsive editor here. Request you to look into it--Deepak D'Souza 04:29, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Deepak, please start a request for comments in the article talk page. Also, get a 3rd opinion from people knowledgeable about this. I am ignorant about the spelling issue, so can't decide who is correct here. So, perhaps other Indian wikipedians, for example those from Goa can throw more light on this. I have protected the article for the time being. --Ragib (talk) 08:38, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Invasion of Goa

Hello Ragib. For the second time, you have protected an article on a topic where you have connections, and twice shortly after an edit warring user who persists with non consensual edits has again reverted to his preferred version. It is not an administrator's function to serve as a mechanism to have warring users have their preferred versions settle for some time. Besides, it is not going to resolve the issue, as again Deepak has no consensus and is just wasting everybody's time through persisting with his views against other editors. I am totally open with the intervention of uninvolved third parties to deal with the issue, but his requests for protection are futile. You should have excused yourself from attending to his request so not to make this a bad habit. Please consider reviewing the situation and the adequacy of your response. Thank you. Regards, Húsönd 21:12, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Sigh, if you have any issues with my protection of the article, please raise your point at WP:AN/I. I am not a party to the edit dispute you have there, and I do not understand how I have "connections" to this article. Protected versions are always the wrong versions, so I understand your anger here :). I am not even aware of the actual spelling of the places the dispute refers to, so can't pass a judgment on that. So, I've just used the administrative effort of stopping the dispute till you two can participate in a dispute resolution process. I will not refrain from protecting the article again, and/or blocking both of you for edit warring if this continues in future. I suggest both of you follow the advice given above to Deepak, and a) initiate a request for comments b) get a third opinion. Thank you. --Ragib (talk) 21:21, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
I suggest unprotecting. I have no history whatsoever with this article and will be happy to block edit-warriors or reprotect if necessary. Hope this is a help. --John (talk) 03:42, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Great, I can unprotect the article, if the two users promise not to start reverting each other's edits, before they can have a discussion. --Ragib (talk) 03:56, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
I've messaged them both to see if they will accept this, and made what I think is a viable suggestion at the talk page. --John (talk) 04:34, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Sylhet

Hi Ragib, I don't really know much about the divisions, districts of the country, so I would like to know what does really the city of Sylhet mean. Because there is the Sylhet District, and the Sylhet division, so what part of Sylhet should the article really be talking about? So when looking at demographics, like for example literacy rate, It was quite confusing whether to look at the metro or zila statistics. And if you can, could you help me out with the article a little, because I think it can be a GA (maybe a bit too anticipative, which is good) Mohsin (talk) 13:48, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that {{imagevio}}, which you placed on File:GOLF-VIJAY.jpg, is deprecated. Images are no longer handled at the copyright problems board. The Guide to Image Deletion sets out the various processes for handling image copyright concerns. In brief, blatant violations are speedily deleted according to WP:CSD#I9, suspected violations are handled at WP:PUI and suspected violations of WP:NFC are addressed at the much-overburdened non-free content review board. I have placed this one at PUI, so this is just for future reference in case you should encounter another image with copyright issues. Thanks for noting your concern. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:47, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Zahiruddin Khan so and so are included here, whats the problem with Mr. Taposh. Not for Sheikh dynasty, he has a good educational and professional background. I doubt about ur NPOV and intention. I think an encyclopedia will be a source of information, not a reflection of personal liking or disliking. In this wikipedia generally I hardly find criticism in a biography. But exception is about Bangladeshi people. Criticism does not mean neutrality. Allah save our people, our patriotic people. --Abdullah Harun Jewel (talk) 08:13, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

User talk and categorized as Bangladesh project

Thanks for quick reply, Whats ab8 Hafezzi Huzur, Kazi Golam Mahboob, Abdul Wahed? And ab8 Mahi B Chowdhury, Whats the criteria of being included here? According to u being MP. Bar-at-law at UK, being Former principal of a London based Educational institution working as legal advisor of Hoda Vasi, Rupali Bank etc, being attorney of former PM its not enough. So best of luck, hope that u would include many more mp's, no matter if its haji selim or sa khalek. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abdullah Harun Jewel (talkcontribs) 08:53, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

replying to Dr. Fazle Rabbee's page

Mr. Ragib, ami Dr. Rabbee's mey. I am the daughter who has been writing all these years. We are trying to set up the wiki page. All photos are from family archives. Some have been published in our writings in other newspapers (e.g. the Daily Star).

If you can provide assistance, it would be appreciated greatly. What is your affiliation?

Best wishes, Dr. Nusrat Rabbee —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dinosrawr (talkcontribs) 21:29, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

FA Review

Hello there Ragib hope u r well : ) Just nominated the article British Bangladeshi for an FA, please add comments or if you believe the article should receive an FA or not here. Thanks a lot! Mohsin (talk) 19:39, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Sitakunda Upazila

Can you take a look and let me know how far it is from another go at FAC? I'd also need suggestions for copyedit and citation fixing experts. These are the two areas that still seem a wee bit weak. Aditya(talkcontribs) 01:49, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Dhaka

Seems to me that you have the situation under control since the only complaint was regarding images. In worst case scenario we may have to let go the baitul mukarram image. Any specific item would you like me to work on? Arman (Talk) 06:12, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Update 1 I have covered the citations for Culture, Transport, Education and Sports section, barring one - the famous sportsmen. Further work is in progress. Aditya(talkcontribs) 08:26, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Update 2 "The main commercial area of the city include Motijheel, Mirpur, Kawran Bazar, Gulshan, Banani and Uttara" - I don't think this statement in the Economy section is right. Shall I remove it? Apart from this one, just one "cite" tags are still left in the article, and that in the same section. Aditya(talkcontribs) 12:16, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Update 3 I have fixed some information according to the references available. Now only one identified problem of verification remains — "Many Bangladeshi cricketers and football players such as Sheikh Aslam, Athar Ali Khan, Kaiser Hamid, and Mohammad Ashraful hail from Dhaka.". Please, check and advise. Aditya(talkcontribs) 02:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't think Atahar Ali Khan hails from Dhaka (wasn't he from Ctg??). Ashraful may live in Dhaka, but AFAIK, he "hails" from Brahmanbaria. The sentence is weak to begin with, and can be discarded altogether without hurting the article/section. --Ragib (talk) 02:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree that this sentence is doubtful and should go. Great work you two, sorry I couldn't be of much help at time of need.Arman (Talk) 13:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Declaration

I was reading the the third volume of the "Bangladesher Shadhinatajuddher Dolilpotro" where I saw some slightly different message than the one given in this article. The declaration that I was reading in that book was more precise description of both Sheikh Mujib's and Zia's declaration. So, please clarify the issues. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh (talk) 07:18, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

First Pets/Presidential Pets merger

Hello, thank you for responding to my merge request so quickly. I see one potential problem, however. The two articles were not completely in agreement on some of the pets. I was hoping that someone would double check the info to see which one was correct before making the merger. --Lasunncty (talk) 01:11, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Apologies

Hi Ragib, I apologized on the talk page for the prez pets, and want to do so here as well. I had simply misread the edit history of that article, and thought a different editor had added the {Notability} tag. I most certainly do not believe that you have ever vandalized anything on WP, nor of course that your account was deleted.

You might also note that I did an AfD nomination on said article. Such a nom is much more likely to attract a variety of editors who can opine on the notability of the topic. The article talk page by itself is unlikely to attract anyone without this particular interest, so doesn't necessarily get a good sample of experienced Wikipedians. FWIW, I voted keep, since I think the topic is notable; at the same time, I'll care little if the consensus goes the other way. I just think attracting diversity of opinion is important. Arbitrary and unilateral POV edits with out either discussing or replying in the Talk Page by Fowler&fowler

To User:Ragib: In the article Hindutash which I incidentally created, this User:Fowler&fowler: is arbitrarily reverting to his POV edit. I have been trying to discuss the issue in detail in the Talk page, but he prefers not to discuss the issue and persists with his arbitrary reversions. This has been going on for nearly one year now. Formerly his stance was that I allegedly had no references. When I provided the references, he could not counter them and ignores them and wishes them away. There is also a map viz. the Map referred to in Article 9 of the Simla Convention between Great Britain, China and Tibet dated the 5th July 1914, depicting the southern border of Khotan and East Turkistan with Kashmir on the Kuen Lun range in the area of Hindutash in Kashmir as a red line which was signed by the then Chinese representative, in addition to the Johnson Map inserted not by me but by him, besides extensive quotations from several research books regarding which he is silent. Earlier he was harping on the alleged lack of references and citations, but he now has changed his stance and talks of “ internationally recognised borders”. Please force him to discuss in the talk page and desist from arbitrarily reverting to his POV edits. Hindutashravi (talk) 14:51, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

I updated the reference of books and publications documenting Salahuddin Ahmed's contribution as an eminent historian from South Asia. I will be updating the specific Awards he has received in Bangladesh and India. I was able to wikify by organizing information into headings. Hope this will meet the Wikipedia guidelines.

South Asia

Hello Ragib. Regarding the flag issue, I was never talking about flags in prose; however, there is no ruling against flags used in the format they are currently employed. I have clearly read the flag policy after Aditya tried to removed them a while back. Anyways, it seems that Aditya does not want compromise, so I have requested that the page be protected. What is your view between the prose format and the list format. Thegreyanomaly (talk) 05:35, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
