JHU Biomedical Engineering Webpage

Not sure why you removed all the areas that our faculty work in which are areas recognized by Nature as forming the discipline. We had the reference. I was modelling after the Oxford University Department of Computer Science another highly ranked department. They list all their areas and all their faculty.

You also removed all the faculty. Maybe you should notify an individual like myself before you do that, so that we can respond and discuss. My staff and I spend hours putting that material together.

I added my promotion as the Director of Biomedical Engineering. I have to find a documented proof of the appointment July 1. I suppose I put a website showing the story from the University Miller appointed Director.

Also on the BME webpage Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering I removed the section on senior faculty significant contributions totally to avoid advertizing. I will try to see how people list awards, then just list them without any description.

Re Canavan

Thanks for your kind words on the re Canavan article - mostly it was identifying the work that had already been done to separate the legal case out from the politics - hope I had complied with WP:split to correctly attribute the edits. It's not my article & you are welcome to edit it, especially when your edits fix things I had missed - one of the things I like about wikipedia is how multiple eyes tends to improve the articles. Do you have any articles planned for the women in red contest ? I am keen to help out the project, & have already added a few, but not to fussed about the contest, so in the unlikely event you need assistance with sources, let me know - I have access to subscription journals as well as some very good law libraries. Changes to the Affinity Propagation Page

I am very sorry if I unintentionally break some rules of Wikipedia. I am quite new in Wikipedia and don't know best way of doing things here.

That is true that I am author of software I mentioned. I considered it as applicable to add a string to the list of software. I tried to follow rules of this list and added very short two line description of software and link in a column which contains similar links to web-sites hosting other software. Reference I provided was to the article published in peer-reviewed journal "Analitical Chemistry"- one of the best in a field. I tried to be honest and to do it I registered here with my true name and working e-mail (and I think it was the way how it was thought as a promotion).

I would really better ask some person responsible for maintaining this list to include me in that list (like i did with ms-utils.org). However since that is wikipedia I did not found expert linked to this page. Could I ask somebody to include my software in the list?

I agree that in my editing was an element of promotion. However I would just like to provide some minimal information to community about our work. As far as I know no one software in mentioned list provides capabilities like mzAccess and I consider it is fair enough to inform community about this kind of software with Wikipedia listing.

Wikipedia is one of the first places where people new in a field go to look for available tools. And listing of mass spectrometry software is very useful in that sence. I would just like to make this list a bit better populating it with out tool too.

Yes, that is true, that we need community attention to continue our research.

I would ask you to show me the way how I can add my software to the list if it possible. Now it looks like anyone, even anonymous can do it with exception to the authors, despite of the fact that authors have the best knowlege of the topic.

These changes are being made as the person whose name is mentioned has the appropriate sources, I have no intention to dupe or promote someone on Wikipedia by doing wrong. I personally took due care to carefully assess everything and then write something.

By no means I will try to promote or falsify a fact or a person on Wikipedia.

I added a source of her entrepreneurship in the biography and tried to add the word "entrepreneur" as well. I have no such intention to advertise on her behalf, I found the source satisfactory so I added the source first and then tried to make changes.

In response to the last message by you, I don't have any financial stake in these changes whatsoever, neither I intend to promote someone on Wikipedia like this. I accept that she came to me to help her make these edits but there is no such deal that involves financial aid in any form, it is my personal interest to make such changes. Due to the adequate number of sources and references mentioned by her, I got ready to pen down these changes. as per her comments: "I own two registered businesses; a Limited Liability Company and a 501(c)3. Your message to me reads as follows: "Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Ankur. I am an accomplished and well respected author, and I did write the book I listed. How can you say that it is "inappropriate" to list an external link, when Wikipedia clearly allows a user to do so, and does not in it's own tutorials suggest that one should refrain from their use. All of the other authors and their works on the list do have links to their pages (even if the majority are internal). Furthermore, as you stated above, if Wikipedia's nofollow attribute value causes search engines to disregard my external link for SEO purposes, how can my link then be construed as an attempt to "advertise"? That being said, how is the list of authors and their works in and of itself not an advertisement? People visiting the site will see their names and be directed to a list of their works....which can be purchased. As I stated before, I am a table top role-playing game designer, I personally know many people on the list, they are my peers. There is no reason why you should restrict me from being listed among them other than your apparent bias. Refrain from any further opinion-based edits.

there's a distinction to make. For an author of a book, we do make links to substantial third party reviews in reliable sources. (there are two common methods--either just a reference, eg., was reviewed in Nature<ref> , Science, <ref>, or, if the list of books is given as a list, as indented entries. We normally do not quote more than a few words from them at most, On the other hand, we do not include anything that could be called a blurb, even from the most eminent people. Such material is not a formal communication, and is normally written just as a courtest to the author. We never include comments of book web sites. Regarding the APAC championships, I'd like to politely disagree with your reason to remove the section from the SAS Wiki page: any team that has won lots of championships always lists them in some way. Some examples:

Mettevanderheide Firstly, you appear to have a conflict of interest as an employee of the school, in which case you should not be directly editing the article at all. Secondly, please see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Most importantly, this is a competition in which 12 schools compete, you can hardly compare it to the accomplishments of Manchester United or the New York Yankees. In reference to the new editor you harangued about his first attempt to edit Wikipedia; plastering articles with citation needed tags and the multiple issues boilerplate was rather unnecessary - the most cursory check of the external links on the article would have shown you there were references available for much of the content. Sure Fish and karate. I'm not sure I'd call adding a standard template haranguing, but I can see that the two additional ones might be misinterpreted that way - I added them to try to explain the specific issues, hence the separate heading "notes", so the intent was to be helpful but I get that it could also be seen as overkill. We were all new editors once yes, but we didn't all start out by adding glowing content to articles about ourselves ;) I have acknowledged on the editor's talk page that the particular article first came on my radar due to a slew of WP:COI editors from the same institution making promotional edits - I accept that it seems clear now that this doesn't have anything to do with that case, so it is unfortunate that this editor came along at the same time when my tolerance was low. Hello There was grave errors involving prisons sentences that were libel these errors are allowed to be put on in articles not checked of verified for years and when I check against the source and correct I’m out of control. I have disclosed my conflict of interest and have no problems with people editing what I wrote to make it neutral. Edits to Colt firearms related pages

Today, I noticed that in external references for a number of Colt firearms models, the link to my site was to a 10 year old version of my page visible through the WayBackMachine. I attempted to correct these links to point to a current version of these pages. Instead of asking for clarification, you reverted the changes and then told me that the username that I've had for years was in violation of Wikipedia's terms of use.

So I clicked the link and completed the form to change my name. I'm still not sure how the focus on an administrative procedure ended up making the content related to the Colt firearms pages better, but I complied with the request.

May I ask why you feel that outdated links to the WayBackMachine are better than current links that provide the reader with accurate and up to date information?

Frizel Francis, sorry I missed this before. A source in another language is fine. I'm not sure what you mean by an image (do you mean uploading an image of an offline source?) Frizel Francis Please read through the guidelines I linked to above as it really does explain how all this works. But basically, wikipedia works by including what has been published in reliable, independent secondary sources. So the content in the article needs to be supported by the sources. For example, at the moment the Background section says they were music directors on a movie, so you need to include a source that actually verifies this information. It says later that in a more recent movie they have adopted a new musical style, again you need a source that actually contains this information. If content can't be sourced, it shouldn't be included in an article. Melcous (talk) 07:14, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to edit the Bruce Judson article. I recognize the extra sensitivity that is required since I am Bruce Judson. However, I do believe the phrase "media innovator" is supported in the accompanying biography. The biography indicates that: 1) I led the development of multi-media advertising packages at Time Warner, 2.) Was a co-founder of Pathfinder, Time Warner's first Web site, and one of the first media Web site 3.) Have been credited as the "inventor" of the banner ad (among the most significant media innovations that allowed for the rapid growth of Internet advertising--and at the time it was not obvious. No one knew what advertising on the Web would look like, and many believed media companies would create mini-Website within their larger sites for advertisers. The concept of sending an advertiser away from your media did not exist in the pre-Internet world. 4.) In the book publishing world, the idea of making a "front-list" book available for free online--and ad-supported--had never happened prior to "Go It Alone!. This was recognized as sufficiently innovative that US NEWS featured the book on the cover, as part of a cover story. 5.) I am featured in Michael Wolff's "Burn Rate" because I played such a central role in articulating and building the use of the Internet as a then-innovative advertising capability.

BruceJudson thanks for your message. As the person who the article is about, the conflict of interest guidelines strongly recommend that you do not edit the article directly, but rather make suggestions using the Template:Edit request on the talk page. What you say here makes sense, however wikipedia works not by drawing together ideas as you have done (that could be considered original research which is not allowed), but by reporting what reliable, independent, secondary sources have said. So what would be needed to include this is a third party, reliable source that actually calls you a "media innovator". If you can point to one of those, I'm happy for the phrase to remain - but it should then be included within the body of the article, not just in the lead - but if not, it should be removed. Marilyn Monroe Gown

Hello. The page I was working on was deleted. It was notable as it was featured in numerous books. As much as I wish I have no connection to Marilyn Monroe or May Mann. This gown is a lesser known one but has a very rich history of being exhibited at the Variety Arts Center and the Magic Castle. The content may seem like it is mainly about May Mann but that's because it's history (even though it was owned by Marilyn Monroe originally) has been documented more thoroughly. I am going through 70 years worth of unseen Fox archives to gather more information about Marilyn Monroe wearing this. You see Marilyn didn't have many gowns or clothing for that matter. She would "borrow" items from the Fox studio archives to wear. You may not know this but Fox Studios would actually reuse their costumes for other movies. I'm trying to see who wore the dress in a film. I am looking through the clothing and costume papers to see of I can see if Marilyn checked the gown out. If I can find out the date when she checked the dress out it will be much easier to find out which event she wore this to. Either way it still is very important part of Marilyn Monroe's legacy as a charitable person and friend to those who never felt included (like herself) It's notable because it was in the possession of Marilyn Monroe, May Mann and finally the Magic Castle owners. It was displayed in the Variety Arts Center to raise money for the Larsen's IRS issues with running such a huge place. It was the one of the first gowns to ever be exhibited as being owned by Marilyn Monroe as her all items were in storage until 1999 during the big Christie's Auction. I hope after reading these points you will be able to revert the deletions. I am happy to provide my credentials as a very well known Film Historian. Hi BrookyTH, you still have a couple of steps to go. You need to make a disclosure on the article's talk page - Talk:Jamie Waller (entrepreneur) - using the Template:Connected contributor (paid). On your user page, the statement you currently have says "clients including" - you need to list each client and each article they have paid you for, again that's why using the Template:Paid will make things easier/clearer. I did read the guidelines and thought it would be acceptable: it is useful, non-commercial and not available elsewhere. I note that there is already a link to a archive.org site, the "lexion" link, which unfortunately is of rather poor quality. The link I placed was the work of a now dead linguist who had the work available when he was alive at the also now dead site: http://oldwelshbooks.net/macalisterras1937/ Online copy of the Shelta lexicon from Macalister's "The Secret Languages of Ireland". References and expired links to that site can still be found after a cursory search for work on Shelta. The PDF uses an impression of that website taken in 2007. After some searching, including looking at the current link on Wikipedia, I was unable to find any other work based on Macalister that is better. I put a direct link to the PDF at: http://www.alivebeing.com/resources/PDF/Shelta.pdf so it would "bypass" the main site as it there not to "promote" anything - the site is completely devoid of any commercial content whatsoever and always will be.

I consider the Shelta lexicon PDF to be a valuable resource, using correct phonetic characters, produced by a linguist and not readily available elsewhere. I am a retired person and do not have links to a university or other organisation who might publish it to meet Wikipedia's criteria. I thought it would be an asset to Wikipedia in line with its mission of sharing information for the world. Frankly, your response is dismaying to me and in my opinion goes against the spirit of Wikipedia. I sincerely request that you reconsider deleting the link. Otherwise, if any Wikipedia users who read this would like to host the lexicon on their "acceptable" site I would welcome them contacting me and I will provide a copy. The work is intended for the world - not me.
