I disapprove edit

On Wikipedia, we add citations to support our assertions. I recommend you re-read our our policy on verifiability as well as our instructions on citations. You cannot just change Wikipedia to say whatever you think is right, even if you are right. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:41, 13 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

December 2017 edit

  Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Melcous (talk) 13:32, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest editing edit

  Hello, Shakunneed. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Alok Bhargava, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 13:59, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

No, this is not "quite common for academics" and so no, I don't think you understand the concerns. You are wanting to add the kind of content that belongs on a person's own website or on the back of their book to promote their work. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that works by including neutral content that is sourced to reliable, independent sources. The fact that nearly all of you editing here has been to insert links and references to this person's work throughout the encyclopedia is highly questionable and you should read the conflict of interest warning above carefully to make sure you are complying with it. Continuing to make promotional edits can lead to you being blocked from editing here. Melcous (talk) 14:11, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
