Orphaned non-free image File:Metro Cross Screenshot.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Metro Cross Screenshot.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:39, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Road Wars (toyline) edit

The article Road Wars (toyline) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability_(organizations_and_companies)#Products_and_services requirement. WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. Given the near total lack of references (outside fan page), there is no content to merge and anyway there is no valid merge/redirect target I see. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your help desk response edit

Referring to this question, You said, "Physical references such as books and newspapers don't expire". If only that were true. There may very well be a few cases where the last known copy of something has disappeared. I discovered too late to do anything about it that certain sections of a newspaper weren't microfilmed. And, yes, I used articles from those sections as sources because I printed out the online version, but if anyone ever investigates they can claim something like Photoshop.

And to my knowledge my printout and copies I sent people who could preserve them are the only known copies. I found a site that had most of the other articles of that type -- and they deleted them! Said the man wasn't a staff writer for the newspaper. Never mind that they still have about 30 of his articles.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:26, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Supporting myself edit

Thank you for your comment on my supporting my request to move Konigsburg. I had thought that it was appropriate for me to support my own proposal, to make it easy to count those pro and contra. Is this something one should not do? Best wishes,♥ L'Origine du monde ♥ Talk

You're more than welcome to add comments to your own move discussion and to reply to comments left by others. My point was that you do not need to write "Support." in a comment in your own move discussion. People already know you're supporting the move, otherwise you would not have proposed it. DYK for Keihäsmatkat edit

On 7 June 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Keihäsmatkat, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that tourists on holiday trips arranged by the Finland travel agency Keihäsmatkat were encouraged to drink alcoholic beverages, partly to avoid culture shock? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Keihäsmatkat. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Keihäsmatkat), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Ilmari Laukkonen edit

Hi, further to our conversation on the help desk I have found a pdf of a 2012 issue of Sotaveteraani • Krigsveteranen at https://sotaveteraani.fi/lehdet/SV%206_2012.pdf. On page 29 it says (via Google translate) "Ilmari Laukkonen, a TK man who wrote a relevant article for Korven Kaiku magazine on 23 October 1942. He was the editor-in-chief of Vaasa magazine from 1951 to 1980. Ilmari Laukkonen was born on 6 January 1915 and still lives in Vaasa and is well". This confirms that the editor Ilmari Laukkonen was previously a TK man. TSventon (talk) 11:52, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

If that's the case, then the question of the image's copyright status is complicated, as Ilmari Laukkonen has only been dead for 8 years, not 70 (as required for the image to fall into the public domain). JIP | Talk 12:10, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
You could investigate Finnish copyright law, see for example the licensing rationale for commons:File:An_immobilized_Red_Army_IS-2_tank_in_Tammisuo.jpg. TSventon (talk) 12:45, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
The licence information on that page says: This photograph is in the public domain in Finland, because either a period of 50 years has elapsed from the year of creation or the photograph was first published before 1966. The photograph of Arnold Majewski is certainly over 50 years old. It was taken on 10 October 1942, almost 79 years ago. And according to Sotaveteraanit magazine, it is also in the SA-arkisto archives. JIP | Talk 12:51, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I was going to suggest Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, but you got there first. TSventon (talk) 13:16, 28 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Savoy (restaurant) edit

Hello JIP,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Savoy (restaurant) for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Removal of CSD tag from Savoy (restaurant) edit

Hi JIP - I happened to stumble upon Savoy (restaurant), an article you created a few days ago. When browsing the history, I noticed that Mikehawk10 tagged the article as a G11, which you then later removed. This is contrary to policy, as "the creator of a page may not remove the deletion tag from it". Could you please explain why you did?

Unrelated, on coming here to leave you this message, I took a look at Ventoura (marketplace) and have deleted it. I do not expect an editor of 16 years to publish something so blatantly promotional and unsourced. I'm now going to review your other contributions. ~TNT (she/her • talk) 07:13, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

A quick glance through your creations shows another CSD removal from an article you've created, and a fair few unsourced mainspace creations (e.g. Brainstorm (board game)). I'm sure there's a good explanation that I'm just not seeing, and I'd be pretty keen to hear it. As administrators, we must try to hold ourselves to higher standards. ~TNT (she/her • talk) 07:39, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Savoy (restaurant) is one of the most notable restaurants in Helsinki and has had a Finnish article for years. I failed to understand how my article was promotional. The deletion discussion did not receive any delete votes and was withdrawn. Ventoura (marketplace) was split off from Ventoura which had become a Frankenstein article, claiming Ventoura was two different, unconnected things simultaneously. I created Operations of KFC after seeing the "Operations" section of KFC took up the vast majority of the article, so I split it off to a separate article. Someone put the article up for speedy deletion in the middle of this, before I had had the time to remove the duplicated material from the main article KFC.
