Replaceable fair use File:Arequipa City, landmarks.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Arequipa City, landmarks.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 02:19, 1 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Arequipa Climate box

edit

I recently edited the climate box with a summary explaining why it was changed. I don't see the rationale in presenting the parameters in horizontal format since it is very difficult for those willing to add data to it. As well, it makes no difference if you put the parameters in horizontal format or in vertical format as shown by how the climate box appeared the same. Most city articles put it in vertical format such as the one I did since it is easier to edit by other users. I hope that clarifies my reason of editing the climate box. Please don't do cut and paste moves

edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Sulimana a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Solimana (volcano). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 02:45, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:34, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Plant categories

edit

Hello, you've added some geography categories to various plant articles, such as Dysoxylum excelsum. In this case Category:Trees of Nepal is part of Category:Trees of the Indian Subcontinent. Typically articles don't go in both a parent and child category. In this case Dysoxylum excelsum is widely distributed, so we use more general categories. Thanks Declangi (talk) 03:05, 30 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello Declangi. Thank you for pointing out the listing criteria of the Trees of the Indian Subcontinent category. However, I've also noticed that similar categories share species for the sake of more refined searches (e.g: if I only were to look for tree species of Nepal I'd wish to have all the Nepali species listed, including those that are also present in neighboring countries). Because of that, I suggest we keep Dysoxylum excelsum present on both lists. Thank you. Frank R 1981 (talk) 05:09, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I agree that it's more difficult to determine all the species which are present in Nepal. However I don't think using both parent and child categories follows generally accepted practice regarding geographical (and other) categories. For plants, the general ideas on geographical categories are here: WP:PLANTS/WGSRPD. And for categories in general: WP:SUBCAT. When you edited Alstonia scholaris to add Nepal as a category, this now implies something special about Nepal re: this species versus other regional countries. You are now making rather a lot of changes of this kind. The Category:Trees of Asia was previously placed here due to the wide distribution of the species and to avoid over-categorization. My best suggestion to you is that you try to read the above notes on category practice and that, if you still feel opposed, you might raise the matter at the Plants project talk page at WT:PLANTS, where someone may be able to explain these ideas better than myself. Thanks Declangi (talk) 10:48, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for all your work on plants. I wanted to comment on a couple things I've seen in some of your recent edits. Please leave the line breaks between each parameter in a taxobox. Parent in Template:speciesbox

edit

Not sure how often this will come up in your edits, but note in some of your edits you've retained the parameters |sectio=, |subsectio=, |series=, which aren't recognized by {{speciesbox}} and should be replaced with |parent=, which will look up information in the automated taxobox system. I've corrected all the current instances of this (I think); for instance, here in Quercus pontica. |subgenus= is recognized, but I have been replacing it with |parent= so that the information is centralized.

If the taxonomy template for the parent (Template:Taxonomy/parent name) doesn't exist, it needs to be created, as here with Template:Taxonomy/Quercus sect. Mesobalanus. I only fairly recently started doing this, because it seemed onerous; but it's not actually that bad.

Edit summary

edit

Please use edit summaries if you're making massive changes or reverting content. Wikipedia guidelines do not enforce any specific citation style: there's no reason to change a perfectly valid citation format on an article. Your version destroys page numberings that were painstakingly researched. Fraenir (talk) 11:18, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

You need to review Wikipedia policies on citations (Wikipedia:Citation templates) and copyrights (Wikipedia:Copyrights).
"Because templates can be contentious, editors should not add citation templates, or change an article with a consistent citation format to another, without gaining consensus". You've clearly ignored longstanding Wikipedia policy to enforce your preferred citation style, and did not do any work to gain consensus before doing so.
As I explained either, you still haven't addressed the issue of massive removal of page number information in the citations. Additionally, you stripped a copyright attribution tag away from one of the sources, which damages the integrity of the article when it comes to copyright compliance. If you're insistent on trying to ram through your preferred citation style, the onus is on you to get a consensus to support the change. Stop reverting to your preferred style before you've taken this step to gain consensus for this contentious change. Fraenir (talk) 13:54, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

La última revisión del taxón fue realizada por Michael Hassler en mayo de 2018.[1] Saludos cordiales, --Cbrescia (talk) 14:51, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Caraz (disambiguation)

edit

The article Caraz (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page not required (WP:ONEOTHER). Primary topic article has a hatnote and a mention in the lead to the only other uses.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
