The article is now at FAC. We'd be grateful for your comments.: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/South Pacific (musical)/archive1 -- Ssilvers (talk) 13:27, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Ssilvers, thank you for the invitation. I would love to again be part of your FAC effort, but am unfortunately very busy in RL, with lots of commitments and traveling. So please forgive me for being unable to contribute at this time. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 12:05, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

WP:FOUR RFC

There are two WP:RFCs at WP:FOUR. The first is to conflate issues so as to keep people from expressing meaningful opinions. The second, by me, is claimed to be less than neutral by proponents of the first. Please look at the second one, which I think is much better.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:19, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Your DYK nomination of Ferdinando Sardella

Hi, the maximum allowed length of a DYK hook is 200 characters, but the one you supplied is 221, excluding "(pictured)" which doesn't count. The hook will have to be edited or replaced with a shorter one. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:02, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Mandarax, thanks for the heads-up. Shortened the hook by wikilinking, so now its way under 200. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 21:53, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the hook length is fine now. Thanks for taking care of it. Personally, I would be inclined to move the "(pictured)" immediately after "grandguru", but that's up to you. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 02:45, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Good point, moved. Do you think the word "grandguru" is not too...hmm...innovative? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 02:51, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
It's fine with me; however, it's possible that people might be interested in the word, and click on it instead of your bold link. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 04:53, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Work record of Bhaktivinoda Thakur

The article Work record of Bhaktivinoda Thakur has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Dougweller (talk) 20:36, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your consideration. I have reverted the deletion tag, because the article in question is actually a list (more precisely, a chronology of events) and as such, falls under Purposes of lists (information) and can be kept per "Lists that fulfill recognized informational, navigation, or development purposes often are kept regardless of any demonstrated notability". As an option, I was considering to include the list into the updated article on the subject, which is incubating in my sandbox, as a collapsible table. However, keeping it separately appears to be a viable option as well. What are your thoughts? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 08:58, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
I really cannot see evidence that it meets WP:NOTESAL (the other link in your edit summary doesn't seem to apply. I'm not even at all clear why his work record should be anywhere - he is best known as a religious figure. By the way, your sandbox version mentions 'global' twice - that will need excellent sources, possibly attribution. I'm not challenging it, just saying that sort of statement always requires sources. Dougweller (talk) 11:19, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
Dougweller, may I mention that reliable sources that are overlooked in the current article do give much greater significance to Thakur's career in his emerging as a religious figure than one would expect. Going by the reliable sources would require giving due weight to his work record as well, and this is what the list sought to do. And yes, the "global" statements are referenced and attributed now – I thought to do the attribution in the actual body and keep the lede ref-free, but agree that these statements are best referenced right where they're made. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 17:58, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
I don't doubt your statement that his career was important, but the detailed work record is not the same as his career, and I do doubt that those sources are referring to that sort of detail when they discuss his career. The issue is what sources actually cite that level of detail. On a side issue, although it has general sources there are no page numbers for the individual entries. I presume you compiled the list from various pages in each of the two sources so that would require page numbers. If the list exists as an entity in either source it's copyvio. Dougweller (talk) 10:41, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification, Dougweller. The sources do refer to Bhaktivinoda's career in even greater detail – most of them are PhD theses based on his autobiography with a couple of them published as books, so I thought justified in inserting a summary of his career as a table. And yes, thanks for the heads-up as to the possible copyvio issue. I did copy the list from those two sources, but they in turn had copied it from the History of Services of Officers Holding Gazetted Appointments under the Government of Bengal (corrected to 1 July 1894), which places the list in the public domain under the non-creative works category as a simple statement of facts not passing the originality threshold – or so it seems. What do you think? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 11:11, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Ucucha/HarvErrors

Cinosaur, I saw and corrected some minor SFN formatting errors on Bhaktivinoda Thakur. They showed up as big red error messages to me because I have User:Ucucha/HarvErrors added to my .js page. I recommend that tool highly. One error showed up I can't correct, but you can. The Sardella-Sain ref book has no SFN pointing to it. What I can see because of Ucucha script is a big red note next to it saying "Harv error: There is no link pointing to this citation. The anchor is named CITEREFSardellaSain2013." Good luck. — Maile (talk) 14:51, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

Maile66, thank you very much for fixing Harv errors in the article. I've hidden the orphaned source for later use. Will look into Ucuccha's tool, which seems like a good thing to use. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 13:35, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

File:Yogapith, Mayapur.jpg usage

While the image is used appropriately in Chaitanya, Bhaktivinoda Thakur, Nabadwip and Mayapur (I am confused if the temple is in Mayapur or Nabadwip; they seem to be two close by villages/places); but in all other articles, it needs to be replaced by Chaitanya's image; which is more relevant. I would have done that, but this is FP, I suggest you do it and then update "Articles in which this image appears" --Redtigerxyz Talk 10:19, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Redtigerxyz, thanks for the answer. Would you suggest a Chaitanya's image to replace it with? NB: Yes, Mayapur is considered to be part of the Nabadwip district and is located just across the Ganges from the latter. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 10:26, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
File:Chaitanya-Mahabrabhu-at-Jagannath.jpg will be a good replacement. There is no Nabadwip district. Both seem to be distinct places across the Ganga; so on which bank is the temple? So "Discovery of Caitanya's birthplace" should be in Mayapur or Nabadwip? --Redtigerxyz Talk 10:49, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Redtigerxyz, thank you for the heads-up about Nadadwip vs. Mayapur consideration. You're right that there is no Nabadwip district. The actual district for Mayapur (and Nabadwip) is Nadia district, Krishnanagar Sadar subdivision. I thought that Mayapur was under Nabadwip municipality, and apparently it is not, being on the opposite side of the river. However, Mayapur is counted under the Nabadwip block of Krishnanagar Sadar subdivision and is serviced by the Nabadwip police, and as such, legally is still under Nabadwip – or so it seems. What do you think?
I checked some references, most use Navadwip, not Mayapur; so I suggest we retain Mayapur near Nabadwip, if Mayapur bank is bbelieved to be the birth place. Historically, the place may be known as a part of Navadwipa perhaps. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:48, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
So do you suggest that we leave Yogapith image out of Nabadwip and in Mayapur, or that we keep it in both, specifying that Mayapur is near Nabadwip or in Nabadwip block? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 12:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
If the temple is on the Mayapur side; keep image on both articles; as references say Navadwip; Mayapur may be a modern name of the place. If the temple is on Navadwip bank, move the "Discovery of Caitanya's birthplace" to Nadadwip and remove the image from Mayapur.--Redtigerxyz Talk 13:03, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Your other point about Gaura-purnima is will taken, and I will replace the image in question with that of Chaitanya there. As for Gaudiya Vaishnavism, I am not so sure – it seems to me that the inclusion of the Yogapith image there is completely justified, being the historic birthplace of its founder. As for Gaudiya Math, it's borderline - the actual place of the first Gaudiya Math, the Caitanya Sarasvat Math, is some short distance away, but Yogapith is in their custody. My guess that the image can stay there as long as an image of the Gaudiya Math is added. What is your opinion? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 12:36, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
The main img of Gaudiya Vaishnavism should be Krishna or Chaitnya; the most venerated figures of the sect. The Yogapith img can be moved down in an appropriate section where temples of the sect are discussed. In Gaudiya Math, I will suggest an image of its founder Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati is more apt.Redtigerxyz Talk 12:48, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that seems reasonable. Will do. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 12:54, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Since we have a consensus, we replace and substitute appropriate images in the articles.Redtigerxyz Talk 13:04, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Redtigerxyz, as suggested by you, I've added the image to Gaudiya Vaisnavism, edited its caption in Nabadwip and also added it along with Chaitanya's image to Nadia district. I've also updated the FP nomination accordingly. Regards, Cinosaur (talk)
I am removing it from Gaudiya Vaisnavism, since there is not so important to the faith to be in the lead. If there is a "relevant" section on "temples" in the future; add it. Its usage in Nadia is accurate.Redtigerxyz Talk 05:31, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Great Resourse

I'm reading a new text put out by Oxford, "Modern Hindu Personalism: The History, Life, and thought of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati." It's of high quality, and really allows a lot of access to the subject. For me, aside from a great read, it helps me in a similiar way to how Shukavak Dasa's "Hindu Encounter With Modernity" greatly helped my understanding of the historical context of Bhaktivinode as well as his theological contributions. Just an FYI. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 15:38, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the reference, Ism schism. I have this valuable book and have already used it extensively in the recent revision of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati and, to some extent, in Bhaktivinoda Thakur. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 18:57, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

The Radha Krsna Temple (album)

Hi Cinosaur, Are you active ? I went to JG66's talk page to check for nominating The Radha Krsna Temple (album) for DYK and noticed that you had already asked him. Are you going to nominate it for DYK as the deadline is running. If not, I will nominate. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 11:30, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Vigyani, thanks for the note. I was actually thinking of nominating it for the Fool's Day DYK, as it just lends itself to clever puns, and there is no immediate deadline for that nomination. Fool's Day DYK also generally attract more views to articles. Of course, I have no ownership over the article, and if you want to go ahead with a regular nomination, feel free. However, per rules, this will make the article ineligible for the Fool's Day nomination. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 12:29, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi, Thanks for clarify. I was not aware of this April Fool's nomination rules. Please go ahead with April Fool's day nomination. :) --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 12:37, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Bhagavad Gita trial in Russia

Hi, Cinosaur! Could you plz clarify in what way wiki-link to a relevant page is "not constructive"?--Shanghainese.ua (talk) 06:30, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the message, Shanghainese.ua. Maybe you could explain how, in your view, a wikilink to an article on boycotting Russian goods in Ukraine over its role in the Ukrainian crisis is in any way relevant in the context of protests in India over an entirely different issue? If you were linking to an article on boycotting Russian goods in general, for whatever reason, that would have been somewhat more appropriate. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 09:50, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
I guess I can: Do not buy Russian goods!#International spread. The issue started in Ukraine spreads over the themes of economic corruption and cultural intolerance beyond the borders of a single country. Granted all the propaganda overtones, it is still relevant and useful - as a facet of the international image of Russia.--Shanghainese.ua (talk) 11:07, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
(suppose we add the history of nonviolent resistance as exemplified by India - does it still not suggest the parallel?)--Shanghainese.ua (talk) 11:11, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Shanghainese.ua, one problem with Do not buy Russian goods!, in whichever section, is that it refers to a trend that started in 2013, whereas calls for banning Russians goods in India over the Bhagavad Gita trial in Russia happened much earlier, in 2011. Therefore linking the latter to the former is misleading as implying that the latter is in some way influenced or caused by the latter, which is clearly not the fact. If you want to draw a parallel between the two, a more germane way to do that would be to create a separate general article or list History of boycotting Russian goods or something similar and link both articles to that, preferably under the {{Also}} hatnote. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 14:15, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
This is my first time to hear that conclusions you propose might be drawn from a simple wiki-link of analogous references. But whatever, the matter is too small to argue over it. I am not going to undo your "contribution". Enjoy.--Shanghainese.ua (talk) 21:24, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, Shanghainese.ua, for desisting from irrelevant linking. Please consider creating the broader article or list, as suggested above. And you may also find WP:MOSLINK of use for your future discussions on linking with myself or other editors. Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 04:14, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

September 2022

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Venkat TL (talk) 12:12, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
