Your move of Bing and related pages

Hi there Chris1294. I noticed these moves on my watchlist, and I've commented on them at Talk:Bing (Disambiguation), but I wanted to ask you to please not perform page moves the way that you did here. The multiple moves make a mess that has to be cleaned up, and also creates a mess in the page history. If you can't make a page move because of technical limitations, the correct thing to do is ask at Wikipedia:Requested moves, and an administrator will perform the move if it's reasonable to do so. In this case, however, there's a long dispute about how the various Bing pages should be organized, so they shouldn't be moved at all without prior discussion. Fox Sports

Hello. Please note that per a previous discussion on Talk:Fox Sports (United States)#Requested move, the main Fox Sports page should be left as a Disambiguation page -- NOT a redirect to, or cut-and-paste move of, Fox Sports (United States). I also reverted your page move back from Fox Sports (Worldwide) because it essentially results in an "unnecessary disambiguation" title -- that is a title X that redirects to a disambiguation page with a more complex title X (Y)

If you note in that previous discussion that I personally was opposed to this current consensus, but was overruled by a number of Australian editors who watch Fox Sports (Australia) and feel that there should be NO primary topic.

Also, I have noticed that you have also been previously warned above about blanking pages and attempting cut-and-paste moves. Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Style Network a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Esquire Network. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you.

Verbage regarding "SD feed downgraded to 16x9"

Hi Chris, I noticed your edits regarding formats on several cable channels. While I agree that the info needs correcting, I think the standard sentence you're using can be confusing at best, and inaccurate from a technical point of view. Saying "SDTV feed downgraded to 16:9 480i" has a couple of problems. First, it's the HD feed that's being downgraded so that it can be seen on an SD television. In the TV community it's actually called "downconverting" although "downgraded" is probably more descriptive and a better word for the average reader, so I'd leave that alone. Saying 16:9 is also a little misleading - what the signal becomes is actually a "letterboxed 480i" signal.

I corrected one of these that I noticed by chance, and rather than go through and do the rest myself without consulting you, here's what I propose:

"(HD feed downgraded to letterboxed 480i for SD sets)"

HD to streaming in network articles

I am reverting these edits; there is no cause for the removal of this information, and in some cases (like HLN), the streaming platform they use is completely wrong (HLN doesn't have programming it can stream on HBO Max). HD in articles

These edits will be reverted and restored as not only are they sourced well, but there are still viewers in 2024 who receive these networks in standard definition, and usually on purpose because of either their equipment or because of DVR space limitations which they avoid by recording in SD instead. Referring to HD as a "different service" or as a luxury is inaccurate. SD channels do not exist anymore.

And that doesn't matter; there are still viewers who purposefully watch programming in standard definition, and most providers outside Internet MVPDs still do maintain SD and HD lineups separately. This would be a decision for an WP:RFC with full consensus when and if SD lineups will be phased out for the majority of providers, not your decision to remove them alone. Your point stands if HD branding was still used by content providers; however, HD has been the standard for over a decade while SD is used by a very small fraction of what's left of cable viewers.

Please cite this 'small fraction' as an actual number; even barring that though, there are multiple broadcast channels carried in 480i, and there are multiple services that are SD-only because it's pointless to upgrade (classic television and the like). HD may be a current standard, but SD is still well in use and properly listed in articles, and should not be removed unless it's clear that a network no longer allows carriage in SD.
