Updated claims that Nichols was a prostitute edit

Hi folks! The book The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper details the lives of the canonical five and offers insights into their lives. The book is well researched, and I edited this page to add some of its content. Namely, the book calls into question whether or not Nichols was a prostitute, as no real evidence suggests that she was.

Please see this thread concerning Rubenhold's book. There is a lack of consensus as to using her book as a reliable source.

Lechmere/Cross edit

The article says that Charles Allen Lechmere (who it calls Cross and adds the note "birth name Lechmere" when in fact Lechmere was his actual name and Cross was the name of a stepfather he falsely gave as his own on testimony) found the body. Given that Lechmere is considered a suspect in the Ripper murders and appears on the Jack the Ripper suspects article, should we not change it to say he claimed to have discovered the body while also mentioning that he might have been the actual killer.--RM (Be my friend) 14:21, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

In English-speaking countries, it's not unusual for stepchildren with no contact with their birth father to adopt the name of their stepfather. In fact, I would say it's fairly usual: see Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton. There's nothing strange about Lechmere adopting the name Cross; it's culturally the norm. In common with other victims, the coordinates of 51.5579°N 0.0445°W are incorrect as this is in Hackney 6 miles away from the City of London Cemetery, Manor Park, London Post Code E12 5DQ for the main entrance. It's 51.55759°N 0.053368°E see bullets below for reference.
