U21? edit

If he is 23, how did he play in the 2006 UEFA Under 21 championships? Dr.rajkumar

The UEFA looks at the player's age at the start of the competition, not at the end. link The 2006 UEFA Under 21 championships started in 2004. Intangible 17:41, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

2005/06 European Golden Boot edit

Did he really win the European Golden Boot [1] in 2005-06? A cursory Google search only brings up links to the Wikipedia Golden Boot article, which lists Tarno Neemelo as having the most goals scored overall on the continent. However, the Answers.com page which mirrors an older version of the same Wikipedia article [2] has Huntelaar as the overall top scorer on the continent with his 33 goals. Is he or isn't he the winner?

Luca Toni won European Golden Boot in 2005-06. Eredivisie has only x1.5 multiplier, so Huntelaar has 49.5 (33x1.5) points and Toni has 60 (30x2) points. See [3]. I'll clear off incorrect statement about Huntelaar's win. --AK-85 14:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

References edit

It is hard to check the verifiability as the majority of citations are in Dutch. Verify sources. SriMesh | talk 04:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

English sources for matches played in the Dutch Eredivisie often simply don't exist. Wherever possible, I have used English sources. The problem really is that most of the information in this article can only be referenced with Dutch sources. JACOPLANE • 2007-10-30 22:38

GA nomination on hold edit

Overall an excellent article. I think a few changes are needed to make GA status, so I am putting the nomination on hold to allow time to address the following items:

  • Need a general copy edit; there are some typos and inconsistencies. For example, "hat trick" and "hattrick".
  • Hyphens in match scores need to be converted to en dashes.
  • Numbers under 10 that are not part of match scores should be written as words ("nine" instead of "9").
  • The lead states that he is seen as a "rising star" but that is not actually mentioned or sourced in the article. The lead should only summarize what is discussed and properly sourced in the main body of the article.
Reply: Well he was named Dutch football talent of the year, was named in the "Team of the Tournament" in the European Under-21 championships, all of which are sourced in the article. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-5 08:16
OK it's now sourced in the article in the National team section using this source: [4]. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-5 12:05
  • The "Personal life" heading is out of place and disproportionately short. I recommend merging this information into other sections if it is unlikely to be expanded.
  • Consider removing some of his earlier football experiences from the "Career" section. It's debatable that a five year old has a "career" in anything. Perhaps his career began when he was first signed to a professional team (PSV)?
  • Change instances of single quotes (as in 'The Hunter') to double quotes. Single quotes are only proper inside sets of double quotes.
  • Remove POV terms such as "prolific", "spectacular", "wonderful", "excellent", etc.
  • Change all constructions such as "He would play as a left back..." and "Huntelaar would go on to score..." to constructions like "He played..." and "He scored..." respectively.
  • Under the "De Graafschap" heading, the use of the word "degradation" is improper. I'm assuming you mean that the team was forced to leave the league; maybe use "demotion" or something more appropriate.
  • Near the end of the "Ajax" heading, you reference a 1-8 victory. How is 1-8 a victory?
Reply: It was an away game (not played in Amsterdam), and the home team is usually first in scores of games. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-3 22:54
  • The first mention of the subject under a new heading should mention him by name. Do not refer to him as "he" or "the player" if he has not been recently named.
  • There is some football jargon in the article that needs to be wikilinked or defined, as many readers will not be familiar with the terminology. Examples are "stand", "brace", "aggregate", and "missed a penalty".
  • I'm not sure there needs to be multiple images in the article just showing his face. If an image doesn't depict anything unique, consider removing it.
Reply: I removed one of the images, left one in. If you feel that it's really necessary to remove it for GA-class, feel free to remove it. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-5 08:52

Style of play edit

I'm half way through copy-editing this article as requested at WP:FOOTY but wondered if the paragraph in the profile section, starting "Huntelaar is a striker ..." could be moved to a separate Style of play section below his playing career. Peanut4 10:24, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I had a section called "Player profile", which sounds similar to what you're describing, see old revision. However I merged some sections because of the GA-review above. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-5 10:28
No worries. Peanut4 10:44, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot for helping out with the copyediting by the way. JACOPLANE • 2007-11-5 12:07

transfer bid edit

It says Ajax rejected 40 million euros for him but from whom. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.136.249 (talk) 16:58, 28 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The transfer isn't official yet, so stop posting it. It is said that Ajax has 48hours to decide either they sell the player or not, but Huntelaar isn't Real Madrid player yet.

It has just been confirmed by the official website of Ajax, that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will move to Real Madrid and that Ajax will receive an initial transfer fee of 20 million euros, which can rise to 27 million. Someone please edit the page, because I'm not going to become a member for this. Here's the link with the news: http://www.ajax.nl/web/show/id=154417/contentid=68207.

As of December 23rd, the transfer is not only official, but Huntelaar has also been training with Real Madrid for a couple of weeks or so. He has been officially presented as a R.Madrid player, he appears at the club's website and already has a squad number. The fact that he can't start playing until Jan 1 doesn't mean he's isn't a R.Madrid player yet.Wislabe (talk) 11:37, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fact of the matter is that his contract term hasn't started yet, it will start on January 1st. Player presentations are very often before the start of the contract, they are no indication of anything whatsoever. Huntelaar will only become a Real Madrid player when the transfer window opens, which is on January 1 after midnight. Aecis·(away) talk 17:08, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Tottenham Hotspur FC and Arsenal FC where given till next week to make a transfer bid for HuntelaarReply

POV edit

There's quite a bit of POV language in this article: "Huntelaar is a classic "number 9" striker"; "...prodigious goalscoring abilities..."; "...it was clear that Huntelaar’s path into the first team was blocked,..."; "He was an instant success...". This kind of thing needs to be avoided. Dancarney (talk) 14:34, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree.."A classic number 9 striker"? What does that even mean? I wouldn't mind leaving it the way it is as long as it has some legitimate meaning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.127.132 (talk) 07:18, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Real Madrid Saga edit

Huntelaar has been wanting a move from Real Madrid ever since the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool FC because they chose fellow team mate Lassana Diarra due to Uefa rules because both had played for their respective clubs in the Uefa Cup that same season so they had to choose one player so Huntelaar was left out the squad and has been looking for a move this summer and one team has made a bid of £17 million pounds which is VFB Stuttgart but Huntelaar is hesitant to move and would ratherprefer a move to the Premier League which Arsenal FC and North london rivals Tottenham Hotspur FC and have been given till next week to make a bid —Preceding unsigned comment added by Timipre (talkcontribs) 20:40, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bid accepted edit

klaas-jan Huntelaar is to be confirmed an Arsenal FC player by the end of this week as Real Madrid has accepted a 15 million pound bid for the for the dutchman which could rise to £18 miliion pounds —Preceding unsigned comment added by Timipre (talkcontribs) 18:42, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

True or not, this is entirely irrelevant for an encyclopedia. Hermiod (talk) 15:31, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
How fast news change... he's been sign by Milan. I notice that it keeps being edited out. Well by tomorrow the official announcement should be made. Not Arsenal (sorry gunner fans), but by Milan. Gcarini (talk) 21:19, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
