i guess some of you havent realised about Europe's band members being from Norway also, which is not a mythical place of some kind

Synth Metal?

categorizing

• I don't think Europe should be categorized as a glam metal band, because they are not. They should be called a melodic hard rock band- ~~Aishah Bowron~~

I agree they are not the best example of a glam metal band, but you have to consider they have been influenced by glam metal. Remember glam metal is not only about make-up and glittering clothes. If you consider songs like Girl from Lebanon or Danger on the Track, you can hear glam metal influences in them. They are very melodic in all their songs though, I can see your point. I think it is right to keep genres as they are now, keeping hard rock, heavy metal and glam metal.FateForger (talk) 17:50, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

1982-1992

• I recently purchased Europe's greatest hits 1982-1992 and in the booklet, the band claims to have scored two #1 singles in the United States with songs "Carrie" and the "Final Countdown". This is from the album cover and they said that scored four top 20 singles form the album, The Final Countdown. I'm reading the booklet from the album. The band claimed to have scored two American #1 singles- Jason

• I'm reading the 1982-1992 booklet right now, and it does claim that "Carrie" was number 1 in the US, and that the Final Countdown album scored four Top 20 singles. This is not true, however. "Carrie" was number 3, and "The Final Countdown" was number 8. Sales figures for Final Countdown

The article currently states that The Final Countdown sold about seven million copies. The actual page for the album states that it was certified 3x platinum, which would put it at 3 million copies. For a start, you are talking only about one song, and this is not enough. Secondly, the presence of keyboards in a song does not mean it is symphonic metal at all. Lots of Scandinavian bands (a good example is Treat) make a heavy use of keyboards in their songs though having little or nothing to do with symphonic metal. Moreover, you are talking about your opinions and your musical tastes, without providing any reliable sources. I hope these reasons are enough to explain why Europe are not symphonic metal. Circumstances of early 90s split

"After ten years of living, recording, and touring together, Europe decided to take a break at the end of the 1992 tour" —that gracefully glosses over the fact that they had failed to get their record contract with Epic/Sony renewed, or get another major label to sign them, for that matter. They never managed to return to their earlier level of success, and "hair" bands were laughed at anyway in the wake of grunge. I don't have a source at hand, but this was widely reported at the time.
