Survey - Support votes edit

  1. Support - makes sense to me. ArtVandelay13 17:02, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
  2. Support - wikipedia should reflect reality and adopt the naming convention used for other DLR stations; historical context can be mentioned simply by introducing, The station opened in 1855, as Custom House Station ... with a redirect from the Custom House station. Kbthompson 11:33, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Survey - Oppose votes edit

  1. Oppose - the article also covers now closed stations on other lines. I see no need to move unless you plan separate articles for each with one central article - I don't see that as necessary. -- Beardo 17:04, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
  2. Oppose - for same reasons as Beardo - Operational status changes should not affect WP naming, and if they do we have got our naming standards wrong. -- Chris j wood 17:14, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
  3. Oppose - past and possible future lines justify simple station name --Henrygb 01:37, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Crossrail icon.png edit

Image:Crossrail icon.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

moving edit

I moved the page to DLR station as all other station pages have been moved to reflect their current status for example: New Cross Station was moved to New Cross railway station, Barbican station was moved to Barbican tube station since First Capital Connect stopped serving.Likelife (talk) 19:43, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Name change edit

Current on board announcements say "The next station is Custom House for Excel West". I'll update if/when the pages change on the DLR website. WillE (talk) 20:48, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Per the convention at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations)#Official names, the official station name is taken to be what is displayed on the platforms. I don't think we should move the article until the platform signs change, at least not without a WP:RM consensus. It's fine to note in the article that the audio announcements include "for ExCeL West", but we shouldn't take that as being part of the station name until there is evidence that the DLR consider it to be. Thryduulf (talk) 10:37, 24 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but what planet are you from? The announcements are being made on the train. They are automated. It is not one or two customers standing up at random calling out altered station names for the fun of it (otherwise they would be a lot funnier than "Custom House for Excel West"). Ergo, as the automated announcements have to be programmed in by DLR staff authorised to do so, ergo, that they are happening *is* already very firm evidence of what the DLR consider the station name to be. The only reason I have not updated is because until some other evidence exists, it constitutes original research. WillE (talk) 23:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Equally (he said looking at the article again several months on, based on "Per the convention at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations)#Official names), the official station name is taken to be what is displayed on the platforms." the station title should be Custom House for Excel. See the photo in the article itself. Unless THAT is original research? I am being bold. WillE (talk) 20:53, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Custom House DLR stationCustom House for Excel DLR Station — Per the convention at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations)#Official names), the official station name is taken to be what is displayed on the platforms. The photographs in the article itself refer to 'Custom House for Excel'. WillE (talk) 21:15, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Excel or ExCeL? edit

The official capitalisation of both the station and the venue it's named for is "ExCeL" (Exhibition Centre London). Should this article be moved to that capitalisation (as the official spelling, treating it as an acronym) or should be keep it here lowercased (treating it as a word). MOS:TM#General rules offers no help here, it says "Trademarks in CamelCase are a judgment call. CamelCase may be used where it reflects general usage and makes the trademark more readable - OxyContin or Oxycontin—editor's choice". Thryduulf (talk) 13:11, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Split article? edit

I have added some history of the original station and the PLA engine shed to this page. Should the name be changed to reflect the history of the stations (and soon to be Crossrail station) or should the historical material be split off into a separate article? I prefer the former as they are all more or less geographically at the same location.--Davidvaughanwells (talk) 19:32, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Custom House railway station edit

Now that construction of the Crossrail station is well under way (see http://www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/news/custom_house_crossrail_station_structure_completed_1_4008637) should Custom House railway station have its own article rather than a redirect to this page about the DLR station? The info concerning the previous North London Line station can be transferred to the article about the Crossrail station seeing as it on the same site? --TBM10 (talk) 20:29, 26 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Probably the best thing is to just move it back to Custom House station when or close to the time Crossrail opens. Likelife (talk) 23:36, 26 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Are they not two separate stations? --TBM10 (talk) 19:38, 27 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Technically yes, but I think to avoid confusion it would be best to have 1 page with details on the Elizabeth line station, the DLR station and the former North London line station. This page needs a rewrite and updates done to it anyway! Turini2 (talk) 21:07, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Custom House for ExCeL DLR stationCustom House station – Custom House is gaining a Crossrail station, opening on May 24th, which will be part of the National Rail network and not the Docklands Light Railway. The name is thus no longer accurate. I can see a move has been dicussed on this page as likely necessary at this time. The new name would be in keeping with other multi-modal stations in London (eg see Category:Rail transport stations in London fare zone 1 for examples). The name of the new station is simply 'Custom House' (see here https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/CUS/details.html) and as such dropping the 'for ExCeL' in the overall name is probably better Super Nintendo Chalmers.
