"The album received praise for bringing a humorous and lighthearted perspective too often violent and profane themes of typical gangsta rap.[1]"

edit

What was the author trying to say here? The "too" is definitely a typo, but it's confusing to the reader if the rap was both humorous and violent, or just humorous, or what. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 40.130.239.4 (talk) 14:41, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why does adult actress Cherie DeVille redirect to Coolio?

edit

Is some fan of Coolio trying to increase his page count? The article has nothing to do with her. Bob Mozark (talk) 15:15, 6 May 2020 (UTC) Bob MozarkReply

9/28/2022 - A possible Internet death hoax

edit

I'm scouring the Internet for Coolio's cause of death after seeing his name in the Wikipedia "2022 deaths' page for this month. I'm thinking there was a mistake considering there was a seal named Coolio at the Pittsburgh Zoo who died, not the rapper. Jason 72 (talk) 01:02, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

It’s not a hoax. Check TMZ. Janers0217 (talk) 01:07, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not done: "was known professionally" suggests a newer professional name, not that he is dead. Current wording covers it better Cannolis (talk) 02:06, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Birthplace

edit

Was he born in Monessen, Pennsylvania or Compton, California? While many news outlets are reporting the former, the California Birth Index has an Artis L Ivey born the same day. 2600:100C:A203:FD7F:809:B2D8:4911:B00D (talk) 02:05, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • This probably originated with Wikipedia and then automatically propagated to Google. The misconception probably originated from a verse in Coolio's song "I Remember" that is delivered by another rapper. Thunderbunny (talk) 18:24, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

It's very common that many people are born elsewhere and come to California. If major news sources say he was born in Pennsylvania, [1], [2], his article should have that information in it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.41.83.88 (talk) 22:13, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • There is a very good chance those "major news sources" cribbed either Wikipedia or something that got the information from Wikipedia. I would consider the California birth index cited in the article as more reliable. In any case, there's likely to be an obituary published soon that would probably have the right information. Number of children

There was an edit saying he had ten children. As of right now, the only sources I’ve seen with this number are tabloid publications. Janers0217 (talk) 03:03, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Corrections

Good evening, I am the eldest daughter of late America rapper Coolio and I see that there is some misinformation on his page. He has 7 children which only 1 is by late wife Josefa Salinas. His family would love if this was corrected. If you need documentation or anything to verify this information please feel free to let me know. 71.38.0.213 (talk) 07:25, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Acting career

edit

The article doesn't make any mention of his film and TV career, despite displaying a rather lengthy filmography. The intro should probably say "rapper and actor." For example his small role in Batman & Robin was later confirmed as being the supervillain The Scarecrow who reportedly was supposed to return had there been a fifth Batman film in that series, etc. 2604:3D09:1F74:1C00:1176:D667:F804:28BC (talk) 13:47, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

What determines which of his television appearances are relevant enough for note in the subsection of Music Career?

edit

Given it's a subsection of "Music Career," I would assume that most of the mentioned appearances would be ones in which he raps or performs musically, but it doesn't seem to have any throughline. Personally, I'd reduce this down to only reference works in which he performed musical material originating in that work.

There is also a filmography section, but I agree that mention should be made in the introduction of his prolific film/television appearances, since he appeared consistently in media from 1996-2021. Aos Sidhe (talk) 17:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
